Airport Extreme "default password" error

After resetting Extreme, I cannot rectify the amber light error for "default password in use".
The password is not set to the default.
Have tried various new passwords, but after updating each time nothing changes.
All internet and wireless connections apper to be working 100% - it's just annoying the **** out of me..........

Open AirPort Utility 6.1, click on the AirPort Extreme icon, and click Edit in the window that appears
Click the Base Station tab at the top of the window
Edit out / backspace the Base Station Password and enter a new password. Write that down.
Do the same to Verify Password
Click Update at the lower right of the window and allow 25-30 seconds for the AirPort Extreme to restart
You should have a green light, unless you still have other default settings that need to be changed.

  • Airport Extreme - streaming apps error

    Hello,
In last two weeks I have problems with one streaming application in my country. It uses mostly port 554. It works cca. 2h30m and then starts to drop connection until I restart router. Everything else works without any problems. Application Developer say that they haven't change nothing in app. I have tried application on three different iPads and iPhones and through web browser (Safari and Firefox on Windows and on OS X). Also a few other users of Airport have the same problems with this application. I have tried to reset all settings, turn off NAT-PMP, change WiFi channel, ... Error happen on WiFi (both and on Ethernet connection.
Is there any chance to make some kind of diagnostics for Airport Extreme (5th Generation). I have try another router (Mikrotik and Linksys) and everything is working without problems on those routers.
    I have:
    Airport Extreme 5th Generation
    Latest Firmware 7.6.4.
    TNX, Davor

Is there any chance to make some kind of diagnostics for Airport Extreme (5th Generation).
It is exceedingly hard to get info out of the Extreme.. apple have very little diagnostics or logging even when you use a v5 airport utility I am pretty sure you are not going to see why a particular stream is having issues..
It would require low level look at the firmware.. and apple gives no way to access that.
How brave are you?? You can solder in a serial port and get console output.. how useful that will be I am not sure.. but you might pick up things like memory leaks, CPU overloads, etc.. however that doesn't fix it. In other words having output still gives you no way to repair what the issue is.
If you have not previously had issues and this is setup that has not changed.. let me at least suggest.. downgrading the airport firmware to 7.6.1 .. I find it a heck of a lot better for most of my usage.
In a v6 utility hold down the option key whilst you click the version number. Select the firmware from the list.. it will then downgrade.. you can also upgrade the same way so this is purely a test.
I would then recommend the following changes. Some of this is for Yosemite which is particularly problematic but it may help you as well.. if you upgraded anything to yosemite recently .. that could well be the cause of your problems. Point 5 below about using Link-local only for ipv6 is crucial.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen5 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem for you as the cable modem SB5102 has no router.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.

  • AirPort Extreme Apple ID error

The yellow light is constantly blinking on my AirPort Extreme. Using the Airport Utility I discovered the error is "unrecognized Apple ID or password" for Back My Mac.  I'll renter the password, update the device and status light turns green. Sure enough however,  a day later, yellow blinking light same error message.

Where are you seeing this error message? The AirPort base stations do not use (or store) your Apple ID and associated password, unless you used it for your Wi-Fi's network name & security password ... bad idea, btw.
A couple of things. Make sure that your personal information for your Apple ID is correct. Now that the Apple ID has two-stage security, if you set this up, be sure that you have everything working properly. I would suggest that you go to the Apple ID support site for additional assistance.

  • Airport Utility cant connect to Airport Extreme Base Station, Error code -4

I am unable to use my Apple-product. Earlier it worked, with these settings: The Airport Extreme Base Station worked as a Gigabit switch and an Access Point. It was not supposed to work as a router, since I have a server "on the far side" of the AEBS.
In any case, it worked for a while. Then it started to act strangely, so I tried to check its settings. I was unable, so I did a factory reset. And haven´t been able to connect (for configuring) since. (It still works as a router and access point, but with the default settings, and with a blinking yellow led.)
When I use the Airport Utility (5.5.1) connected with a cable it finds nothing. Should I be able to configure it wired? When I connect wireless to the default "Apple Network XXXXXX" it finds the Airport Extreme "with default settings". I click "continue" or "Manual setting", and it says "Detecting wireless Apple Devices" (bear in mind that I translate the messages from swedish, It might get wrong), and then after a minute:
An error occurred while trying to access the base station. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again. Error Code: -4
I have shut off the firewall in both Windows and Panda Cloud Office Protection. I have tried to make lots of factory resets.

See this article for instructions on how to install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Lion on Mountain Lion:

  • Airport Extreme Base Station Error 6742 - Configuration Cannot be Read

I have read the existing posts on this topic, but none of the solutions have worked. I have a Windows XP computer and a brand new Airport Extreme Base Station. When I took the base station out of the box, it would not broadcast a signal, even after configuration. I also noticed that the radio frequency was constantly defaulting to "b", which obviously doesn't make sense with an "n" router. So I checked on this site, and it appeared that I needed a firmware and Airport Utlity upgrade. I did both, and now the configuration is inaccessible. Whenever I try to configure the AEBS, the Airport Utility gives me the following error: "An Error Occurred While Trying to Access the Base Station. Make Sure Your Network Connection Is Valid and Try Again." I know my network connection is valid - I have it connected via ethernet cable and obviously the Airport Utility is detecting the base station in the first place.
    Any ideas? Thanks!

If you just bought it I would recommend calling Apple, they can help you set it up.
Also you should consider getting a high speed Internet connection. They are very inexpensive these days and would make your Internet experience much more enjoyable. Where you live I would think you have a choice of DSL (available from most telephone companies) or Cable, which would be the quickest but also more money too.

  • New 10.3.9 install on Pismo G3, Airport Extreme Base Station Error Network

My 10.3.9 Pismo laptop G3 with built in firewire ports worked perfect on my Airport Extreme Base Station — I just Erased and reinstalled 10.3.9 (it was working before I Erased this morning) and now my Original Airport card can't join my wireless network:
*"There was an error Joining the Selected Network"*
I zapped Pram, reset power manager successfully (date reverted).
I accessed the AEBS by a 10.6.3 Mac Pro and checked the Equivalent Password "WPA Password: ####PW###"
Radio Mode selected: 80211n (80211b/g compatible).
    APBS version current: 7.4.2
G3 sees my network as expected.
The APEBS hasn't changed (except for the recent update).
    I restarted the AEBS.
    Still get the error...HELP!
I saw the exact problem on several archived threads, but no one gave a solution or explained the problem (and I'm going blind here).
Again, for the past two years it was working fine with 10.3.9, it broke this morning after I erased and reinstalled 10.3.9.
10.3.9 is the only software loaded on this laptop.

  • Airport Extreme WiFi password change

I want to change the network password on my Airport router. When I open Airport Utility it attempts to locate the Airport base station but never finds it. It says "no configured Airport base stations have been found...will continue searching" The Airport is working and is connected to the Internet. I have Wifi access from this Mac & mobile devices in the house.
Any ideas on what I can do to access the base station to make the password change?

Also, is your Mac connected to the AirPort Extreme/Express (either by ethernet cable or the AirPort's own wifi) or might it have gotten connected to some other wifi network (possibly associated with your ISP's modem, gateway, or router)?

  • How Do I Connect An Airport Extreme With Password to another Wireless Devic

We have a setup for two different wireless devices so that there are multiple locations that can get online, but the entire setup has no passwords assigned. We would like to assign passwords to both wireless devices so that only the appropriate people are getting online. How does one do this?
The first wireless device that connects directly to the modem from the phone company is a brand new Apple Airport Extreme. The computer that set up the device so that people can get a signal was from a PC that is directly connected to the Airport Extreme via an ethernet cable. Also connected to the Airport Extreme is an ethernet cable that goes (50-100ft) to another wireless device - by Netgear - which then sends out another signal to pick up wireless internet, which is the signal/network that I work from.
If we assign a password to the Airport Extreme, I'm guessing it will complete screw up the connection to the Netgear. How would that be dealt with? And, how could we then, if we wanted, set up a password for the Netgear as well. I've read some initial information on the user guide CD and online, but I don't know the terminology of whether these are networks or just wireless devices 'bridged' together, etc.
My biggest concern, is it works right now, but the owner of the devices wants to put passwords on it and I want to make sure we can keep it working even with passwords. Does anyone know how to easily set up passwords and can I do it from my computer even though they were initially set up by a PC? Or do I have to do it from the PC and if so, how, because I am completely a Mac person and am very unfamiliar with Windows. Thanks.

Question that I need to know now is how do we set up a password on the Apple Airport Extreme now, when it is already set up and working without one?
    Open AirPort Utility.
Select your base station, and then choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a password scheme from the Wireless Security pop-up menu.
Enter the password all users will need in order to join this wireless network.
AirPort Utility 5.1 Help: Password-protecting your wireless network
Also, are there different types of passwords and if so, what is the most reliable one so that we don't lose connections, time out or have any other quirks?
There are different types of wireless encryption. WPA2 and WPA are the most secure especially when used with a non-dictionary password. 128 bit WEP is passable in most situations but not very strong. 40/64 bit WEP is extremely weak.
There is really no general "reliability" issue with any of them. Some devices aren't compatible with some of them.
If when we assign a password to the Apple Airport Extreme and for some reason the Netgear stops working, how do we unassign/take away the password on the Airport to get it back to the current setup that we know does work?
Follow the procedure above but disable wireless encryption instead of enabling it.

  • Airport Extreme and Vista Error 6753

I have Airport Extreme. Mac Pro works perfect with AE. However, my vista desktop does not get internet access despite saying I am connected. AE utility stops with "error 6753". Any ideas. Thanks for your input.

    Anyone?  Bump.

  • Trying to set up Directv GenieGO using Airport Extreme.  Getting error message: DHCP range entered conflicts with the WAN IP Address of your base station.  How do I resolve the conflict.

Trying to configure an Airport Extreme manually.  After I enter the IP Address of the GenieGo along with the rest of information required I am getting the following error message when I click update:
DHCP range entered conflicts with the WAN IP address of your base station.
How do I resolve the conflict?

You cannot use the same range on LAN and WAN if you are routing.. it must be different.. and you should not be routing at all.
The AE should be in bridge mode. NO DHCP settings at all.

  • Airport extreme default host won't stick

Hi all, I am using the newest version of the airport extreme and newest version of airport utility.  I have a mac mini server running on my LAN with a manually set IP address of 10.0.1.15.  I have my DHCP range on my airport set to start at 10.0.1.16-200.
I have tried to set the default host to 15 multiple times but it keeps resetting to 253.  I don't get what is happening here but it's a really big PITA.  I'd like to be able to access my server for things like VPN and screen sharing without having to manually set every individual service as well as dealing with the newest icloud port conflicts that the airport utilities report.
Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why this might be happening?

I am having the same issue on my airport extreme.  I am using software version 6.2 , I have slightly different IPs but the same scenario.
    Very frustrating!!
Add to it the fact that I can no longer see the clients that are on my router from the router itself....

  • AirPort Extreme amber blinking - error: "Internet Connection"

    Hi all,
Just purchased the AEBS last night. I have a somewhat "interesting" setup with my network.
    1) My home is prewired with LAN and I'm using a wired (only) Linksys router for this. The reason for this system is in the laundry room and I'm not putting the AP in the laundry room - I can't have a printer there! Also in the laundry room is the cable modem, which feeds into the wired lynksys router.
    2) Connected to this wired router, in the office, is the Airport Extreme. I'm using it as a wireless "bridge" - just there to make Wifi (and share my printer).
    Here's the issue:
My AirPort works perfectly. I get a connection, I can browse all the other devices on the network, the printer prints perfectly, etc.
EXCEPT : the amber light is blinking and in the AirPort software (Mac) says that there is an error with the "Internet Connection". It tells me that:
"Your base station does not have a valid IP address. Please make sure your base station is connected to your broadband modem or local area network (it is), verify, etc..."
There is one true statement in the description above from the AirPort. It does not seem to have a valid IP address. When I type in Safari 192.168.1.107 - the IP address listed on the main configuration pane, it never finds the page and gives me a "page not found" error.
Moreover, I have an NAS attached to the AirPort which I can access - through the browser interface - perfectly. This NAS is a true NAS - meaning it doesn't connect through a USB port but through a network cable.
Lastly, before you reply with suggestions - thanks so much for that by the way, know that I can't change my network set-up physically - everything needs to stay where it is as of now.
    Thanks to all,
    Al

Thanks for the response once again! I'm sorry that I wasn't clear in the beginning as I could have been, but here's the deal: I know there are a mutlitude of ways to set up (any) network but mine needs to stay exactly the way it is (physically - in terms of where each router/station is located).
The reason for this, and also the reason why I can't use your suggestion, is the following: if I move the Linksys to the den (from the laundry room), I will have Wifi, but then I lose my ability to have the pre-wired home (with Gigabit) wiring. This is because the den (as does every other room in the house) only has the "output" on wall and no "input" jacks thus I can receive the WAN signals, but can't redistribute them back all over the home (for my wired devices). My laundry room is the home's "hub" where all the wiring comes into and only from here am I able to send out my wired signals to every room in the home.
I can't get rid of my wired connection since I need Gigabit speed.
So now it's back to square one: the AirPort is still blinking amber but is in bridge mode, telling me that it has no "IP address".

  • Airport Extreme default IP

Hi there, I just bought an Airport Extreme and it works on the default IP ending with 1, I mean, 10.0.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, etc, and I just wondering if I could change that IP. I need it to work with the IP ending with 254.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the discussions!
Sorry, you won't be able to change the default settings that you are referring to.

  • AirPort Extreme Base Station error? Using Macbook Pro

I am new to all of this and I thought I would be capable enough to set this all up but apparently I am not. HELP! I am trying to create and set up a wireless network using my Airport. I have an AT&T Westell Modem that is using dial up for internet. When I connect the modem directly to my computer I have internet access. The lights on the modem indicate that the ethernet and all other capabilities are working. I plugged in my Airport Extreme after using a cable to connect the modem to the Airport using the Ethernet port. The amber light is flashing and I followed the instructions to setting up my Airport using Airport Utility from the Applications folder. It detects my correct Airport but when I go to update and create my wireless network this error pops up:
Make sure your Apple wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6737)
My computer is sitting right next to the modem and the Airport. I am not near any metal or any water, and there are no walls or other electronics to interfere. Am I missing something here? Restarting all devices has also proven unsuccessful...Thanks for anything that can help!

  • Airport extreme: Invalid Argument errors over satellite connection

Question 1: Have you observed problems with Apple equipment getting high error rates over high latency connections such as satellite connections?
Question 2: Do you know of any reason why Apple equipment is more likely to exhibit this behaviour?
We have a shack in the country that has a 10Mb/sec satellite internet service.  The satellite in question is the Australian NBN service which I believe uses an Optus satellite.
We get frustratingly large numbers of errors from Safari: "Safari can't open the page <insert random url here> The operation could not be completed. Invalid argument."
The message in the browser is always the same.  It can take half-a-dozen retries to get a page to display.  On average, aroiund 30% of connection attempts yield this error.  It seems to be load dependent, and at the moment it is happening less often - maybe one in 10 requests are failing.  It is currently 2 Jan, around midday and most Australians near the coast will be at the beach, and those inland have 50 degree temperatures predicted so they will be wallowing in the mud-hole that was once the dam, so I expect the satellite load is rather low.
My ISP says they have around a dozen customers reporting this problem and they all use Apple gear.
    Observations:
I was able to open a VPN connection to one of my customers (after several attempts) and the VPN connection worked flawlessly for the duration of hte session which was several hours.  Meanwhile, the mrs was cussin' away about invalid argument errors.
Once a page starts loading, it generally finishes.  This seems to be independent of the level of complexity.  So once a page gets going, it keeps going.  Selecting a link from it, however, will likely result in another error.
Pings are returning in around 1 second.
Transfer rate is good - close to the promised 10Mbit/sec.  Response time, of course, is aweful compared to a wired or 3G connection.  However it is acceptable provided a response is actually received.
Gear is: A couple of netgear routers in point to point mode bridging to the Airport Extreme in the house which is the main router.  There are a couple of Airport expresses about the place doing other stuff.  Terminal equipment includes iPads x 2, macBooks x 2, iPhones x 2.  Everything gets a master reset periodically when the power goes off,  and the problem persists.  All devices experience the problem.
    Thank you for your help

I have had my airport extreme for over a year and comcast even longer than that. For some reason my airport now says it has a invalid ip address. I plugged my modem directly into my imac and the internet connection is fine. I have power cycled everything multiple times with the same result. I even reset my airport extreme and created a new network. Nothing is working please help!
Does your cable modem have any sort of battery backup that would prevent it from resetting fully during a power cycle?
