Airport Extreme -  disappear from the system!

Hi all!
I have this imac intel 20' with a Airport Extreme card.
Today when i turn the mac on the Airport has disappear!
On the console:
2006-09-12 16:07:46.563 SystemUIServer[224] AirPortExtra: no card found, exiting
I try to erase the interface profile on the Networking/System Preferences and reboot the mac, but still no Airport!
Thanks in advance.

If your Mighty Mouse isn't working then the mouse options in the preference pane will not show up. You'll only see (like you said: keyboard, trackpad and bluetooth). If you have a working mouse plugged in, it will activate the Mouse preference and you will no longer see the trackpad option. That particular preference pane is dependent on the hardware that is present.
Sounds like it might be time for a new Mighty Mouse - a perfect time to spring for the wireless one
EDIT: I misread your first sentence and didn't realize that it stopped working after the 10.4.7 update. Yes, I would try to reinstall the software. But my original response (save for the "spring for a new one" segment) still applies.

  • Serial number disappears from the system profiler... How to get it back?

    Hi there,
We have come across a known behaviour where the serial number of the computer disappears from the system profiler and 'about this mac' menu, whwnever the logic board is replaced. Any ideas how to get this information back on the computer(Seems all the macs are affected)
Is it possible to flash the firmware to copy the contents? Heard someone trying to flash BIOS? will this work or will it damage the firmware? Please HELP!!!

You might want to take a look at this Developer Tech Note:
    http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn/tn1103.html
    Specifically, this quote:
"Caveats for using the serial number
It is possible for a system to lose its serial number so that it will no longer appear either in System Profiler or the I/O Registry. Repairing a system by swapping hardware components is one reason this can happen. Apple does not document the specific details of how a machine can lose its serial number. Once the serial number has been lost there is no means to restore it to the machine."
It sounds like there may not be an easy (or documented) way to put the serial number back.

  • My Airport Extreme Disconnects From the Cable MoDem Every Few Minutes

    Hello,
I start a new topic as my previous title was wrong and there was no suitable answer.
I have had an Airport Extreme for 3 years and it sometimes disconnects after a few minutes. Actually, it more looks like that the Airport crashes: the "PC Link" light on the cable modem goes off, the Airport lights go off and I cannot find my Airport Network any more on my computer.
When this happens, I can either unplug it from the power and plug it back in, or simply move the Airport around a little bit, and it will re-start. Sometimes the problem does not re-occur for a few hours or days, sometimes it keeps happening every few minutes and of course drives me crazy...
    Is it because ... :
    - ... my Airport has a faulty connection and I should replace it?
    - ... there are power surges in my electricity installation (eg this seems to happen when I or my neighbors have air conditioners on, I live in one of those old New York buildings with old electricity installations), and I should get an anti-surge device, or a newer Airport would deal with this better?
    - ... of something else? I tried replacing the Ethernet cable between the MoDem and the Airport and it failed, there does not seem to be a source of interference around my place.
    Thanks for your help!

I have had similar problems. Not as bad as some of you but usually in the morning I discover that I have dropped onto someone elses wireless they are not as fast. Then I have to troop upstairs, unplug the Extreme, replug it and then everything is allright until the next morning. But it is sporadic. It has run fine now for a few days. This problem has persisted now for a year. And yes I have tried resetting it.
Next month I plan on going to the big city and I am going to take my Extreme to one of Genius' at the Apple Store. I am curious if anybody else has tried that solution and how much it might cost.

  • Mouse menu disappear from the system preference..what happened?

after I updates to OS 10.47, my wired mighty mouse completely stop working. I checked both the USB ports with USB flash drives, they work just fine. But when I checked the system profile, the info of the mouse does not show up. I also checked the system preference, strangely, the mouse option does not show up under "keyboard and mice". All I see is keyboard, trackpad, bluetooth and keyboard shortcut.
anyone knows what is going on? thanks alot!

  • Bluetooth seems to have disappeared from the systems preferences selection page on my Macbook Pro. Where to from here?

My Logitech mouse quit working and I assumed low batteries. I replaced them and the mouse still would not connect. The Bluetooth icon on the menu bar is dimmed with the squiggly thru it and the message is "Bluetooth: Not available." The Bluetooth icon in system preferences, which WAS there before, seems to have disappeared. No selection option at all: it simply isn't there. When I click the Mouse option I get "Install a USB mouse" and nothing else. So where I do from here to get my mouse alive an well once more?

  • How is the current (2014) AirPort Extreme different from the model a year ago (spring 2013)?

What are the major differences between the 2 models? Appreciate your response. Thanks.

The primary difference, other than styling, is that the newer version offer 802.11ac wireless capability, which will deliver wireless speeds that are 2-3 times faster than the previous version.
But, users will not realize this speed improvement unless they also have a newer 802.11ac capable Mac computer.
There are 2 additional WiFi antennas in the newer version, located up at the top of the tower, so the new model delivers better speed and range for current wireless devices that may not be 802.11ac capable.
The newer version runs much cooler than the previous versions, which should extend product life.
Pretty much a no brainer to opt for the newer model unless there are still a few $75 deals on the older version....and you do not plan to buy new computers for a few more years.
If you go for the new model, you must use a Mac running Lion (10.7.5) or higher, or an iPad or iPhone to set up the product and make any configuration changes.
Apple tends to introduce new models in June of most years, so if you are not in a rush, you might want to wait and avoid the potential frustration of buying now and then finding that a new "improved" version appears in the next month or two.

  • Airport icon disappeared from menu bar

For one of my two Users, the Airport icon disappeared from the menu bar. Now I cannot turn Airport on or off. Internet Connect only shows the internal modem. Restarting the computer did not solve the problem.
It has worked well until yesterday, all of a sudden the icon was gone. Airport Admin does work, and it restarts the base station when I change something (I changed the password just to test this). So the hardware is working.
If I log on as a different user, the icon is there, and everything works as normal. It therefore seems to be a set-up problem at one of the users.
I would appreciate any help on this one.
    Thanks in advance,
    Maarten

    Maarten,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Go to Apple -> System Preferences -> Network. Select the AirPort Entry from the list of Network Devices, and click the "Configure..." button.
If not already there, navigate to the "AirPort" tab, and check the "Show AirPort status in menu bar" checkbox at the bottom of the window.
This should put it back up there.
Let me know if you need more help.

  • Airport Extreme disappears after waking from sleep.

Here is a strange one for the experts out there...
I recently purchased an Airport Extreme card for my G4 Powermac (FW800). It is the Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.170.25.8). It installs easy, and it works great. I can connect to my Airport Express with no problem, and to my 2009 MacBook.
The problem occurs after the computer goes to sleep. After I wake it (even if it's only after a minute), the Airport Icon disappears and the Spinning Beach Ball of Death appears over the title bar, and the dock. I can click on windows and move them, but not use them.
If I use the Special Menu and tell the computer to sleep I don't have any problems. I'm using the latest update for Leopard, but this happened with Tiger, too.
    Any thoughts?

I had this problem just recently and seem to have fixed it today. I made the following changes:
I changed security from WPA2 to WPA using the Airport Admin Utility.
I went to the Network Preferences panel and found that the network was still listed as WPA2, so I deleted it.
I then added the WPA network to my preferred network list.
The computer now reconnects automatically after sleep or shutdown.
I don't know whether changing from WPA2 to WPA was necessary. It may be that all you need to do is delete and re-add the network.
    Hope that helps!

  • Yesterday I updated logic pro and my IK Multimedia ARC system has disappeared from the plug in drop down window, how can I get it back, it appears on old files but not new ones

yesterday I updated logic pro, I have just discovered that my IK Multimedia ARC system has disappeared from the plug in drop down window, can anyone advise how I can get it back. It seems that old logic files where it was previously loaded still have the plug in live, but on a new project file it simply isn't there to select and activate.

Not sure about your issue. What did you update from and to? Is ARC still in the plugins/components folder?
I'm an ARC user too. I have it plugged in to Audio Hijack Pro which is set to hijack audio from Logic. This way ARC is after logic and you don't have to remember to bypass the plugin before you bounce.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • Cannot open port through Airport Extreme to access security system DVR

I have internet access through Bellsouth DSL -- modem only. We had a security system set up around a DVR recording images and connected to the internet through a Linksys router. We would use a client on outside computers to connect to the security system dvr and see what was happening (live or recorded). I switched out the Linksys for the Airport Extreme, and now we cannot connect to the DVR.
Do I need to manually open a port to the DVR? How do I do this? The DVR connects to the Airport Extreme via Ethernet, and as far as I can tell, the Airport Extreme connects to the DSL modem via Ethernet using DHCP. We have a static IP address. I thank you in advance for any answers, and I apologize if I'm not giving enough information.

Let's double-check your Port Mapping setup on the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) ...
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
    1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
    Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
    o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
    o IPv4 Address: 10.0.1.4
    o Click Done.
    2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
    Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
    o Public UDP Port(s): 6746
    o Public TCP Port(s): 6746
    o Private IP Address: 10.0.1.4
    o Private UDP Port(s): 6746
    o Private TCP Port(s): 6746

  • Airport express disappears from list of multiple speakers

Since upgrading Mac OS X (to 10.5.7) and iTunes (to 8.2) my airport express remote speakers have not been working as reliably: The remote speakers tend to disappear from the "multiple speakers" list when they haven't been used for a few minutes. This is extremely annoying and takes away from the otherwise very smooth operation of iTunes Remote.
The current workaround for this is to quit and restart iTunes. This is NOT a solution since it requires users to go to the computer that iTunes is running on and to intervene manually. The express is hanging off a wireless network set up on an Airport Extreme. Normally, I control iTunes remotely with my iPhone so I can change what's playing and so on.

New observation: the problem seems to depend on whether you have a WDS network. Things are working much better for me since I reconfigured my network. Previously I used the express to extend the network set up on the extreme. After changing things so the express is just hanging off the extreme's wireless network iTunes has not been losing the express or speakers anymore. In fact, I can unplug the speakers, move them to a different part of the house, and often I can just plug them back in and they start playing again. Every now and then I have to stop and start them but I can do it with Remote where before I had to go to the computer that iTunes is playing on.
Eventually I will be wanting to extend the network again to take the laptop outside on the decks since without WDS the network ends pretty close to the house's walls. I hope Apple will fix the original problem by then.

i have an imac g4 purchased Dec 2003 runnung OS 10.5.8.  It runs fine with airport off, but when I turn airport on it freezes with the black page,  "restart by holding power key . . ."  I swapped the airport extreme card with the one in my ibook G4 (purchased same date and running same OS).  No change in operation.
I am running wifi from verizon.  Recently changed from mifi2200 to jetpak 4620 in a 3G location.  Ibook running fine, desktop freezes.  If I can boot desktop in safe mode and get airport turned off in time. then I can reboot regularly and imac runs flawlessly with no wireless.Have run disk utilities and TechTool Pro rebuild etc, but nothing has worked.  How do I fine the culprit?

the power logix thing was really sad. apple changed so much after 10.4.8 that there wasn't a viable way to patch the software.
That statement is precisely why I don't believe in blindly updating the OS, especially in a non-standard machine.
We can't expect third parties to support us forever, and it is shameful to break something that works fine, except that we updated the OS....
I think that any upgrade or modification to a machine or the OS greatly increases the risk of trouble or incompatibility with current configuration and "new" system files.
After all, the component or software could only be tested as far as the current OS version when the component or software was released.
Beyond that, we are all "beta testing".
Following a beta tester protocol, and applying updates to a cloned system drive first, is a prudent way to approach updates, and not only for older, heavily modified machines.
After 10.4.8 and moreso with Leopard, the focus is primarily on Intel architecture, not PPC architecture.
Like it or not, we are all updating to the abyss of the extinction of our machines, unless we can be satisfied with the last stable version of OS that works well with our hardware and software.
I wish they would include the latest pkgs at least with software update.
Yes, having individual packages, rather than lump "OS X 10.x.x" updates would be nice.
This way, one could update as one sees fit. That is to say, for example, fix the Quicktime, but leave my Network alone, etc., etc.
In all fairness, Apple does provide for some breakdown of updates, but I believe there is much room for improvement, especially, as you point out, with regard to the core services portion of the OS.
Until then, I'll leave Software Update disabled.......
