Airport Extreme + DM111P (Netgear ADSL 2+ Modem)

Hello,
Does anyone know how to use perfectly this modem with the Apple Extreme ?
I setup the RFC Bridge mode, setup the AE to connect to internet via PPPoe and set to stay always online. Since I use the DM111P, the AE restart my connection many times a day. Why ?
There is no timeout fixed on the AE...
The DM111P is able to manage the connection itself (PPPoe mode) but in PPPoe mode its DHCP server cannot be disabled and i want to use my AE as router/dhcp, not the DM111P.
Thanks a lot

Seems to be fixed since I downgraded to 7.2

Why does my airport extreme not recognize my cable modem anymore?

Have you tried resetting the modem? Power it down and let it rest a moment, then power it back up again.
Also, some ISPs require physically detaching their cable from the modem for it to be fully reset. Literally unscrew it from the modem. Try that, in conjunction with powering it down.
Don't do anything with your Extreme, other than powering it down too, in the event the modem reset does not help. Reconfiguring it may be necessary but this is not justified quite yet.

  • No Internet via Airport Extreme and Speedtouch Ethernet DSL modem

I've recently purchased a McBook pro and wanted to create a wireless network. I have a new Airport Extreme Base Station and have successfully set that up, but with no internet connection!
I can get a perfect connection by hardwiring either of my machines to the DSL Modem directly (via Ethernet cable), but when i connect the Airport Extreme to the DSL Modem via ethernet there is no internet.
After a bit of research i'm wondering if there is a "bridge" issue... though i have no idea what that means or how to resolve it. Can anyone help?
    Details:
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
Speedtouch DSL Modem (Thomson ST510 v6)
G5 Power PC Tower (10.4.11) will connect to the Airport Extreme via ethernet, currently connects to the DSL modem via ethernet.
MacBook Pro (10.6.4) will connect wirelessly. can currently connect to the internet through the DSL modem via ethernet.
Dynamic IP via ISP connection via PPPoa

Hi Steven, I know this question has been answered and is a couple of months old but I think you may be able to help with my set up? I have a Thomson speedtouch 510 v6 modem router provided by Karoo (UK). My other Belkin N modem router has just bust [again] so the Speedtouch is my old faithful backup device. Now, i've never been able to get on ichat with the Belkin as its a mimo n speed and this is apparently not compatible; So i'm now on ethernet with the st510 and have just set up ports for ichat thanks to a thread called http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2719419&#2719419.
What I want to know from you (because I really need a wireless router to get me off this ethernet support system and back on airport) is how you're getting on with the st510 / airport extreme combo now and can you use ichat on it? If so does your connection doctor say full cone in network settings or something else? As I say, I really want to use ichat and have never been able to in 3 years of owning my Macbook Pro. Hope to hear back from you Steven. Regards Steph

  • Does Airport extreme include a built in modem ??

Does Airport Extreme include a built in modem??

None of the current Apple AirPorts include a built in modem.

  • Does airport extreme or any of the modems work with tds?

Does airport extreme or any of the modems work with tds?

Sorry. What do you mean by "tds"?
Also, Airport Extreme is not a "modem". It is a router.
    Please rephrase your question.

  • Airport Extreme and Netgear DGN2200 Modem Router - Help

    Hi everyone,
I’m from Italy, sorry for my English. I hope I will explain my problem  well enough.
In some weeks  I gonna buy my first iMac (after years and years on Win-PCs). For Christmas my family gave me an Airport Extreme for present. This is the first Apple product that  comes  into my house (..not really an happy entrance until now).
I’m just getting mad about setting this Airport Extreme. I would want to use it as a wireless extender ;  I tried almost all possible setups searching for days on the web , but nothing. It doesn’t work.  The Apple assistance is always busy in the hours I can be at home and the Extreme still remains a well-done-elegant white brick on the desk..
    Situation:
    -     I’m working on a Windows PC now (Windows 7)
    -     I use a Netgear Modem wireless Router DGN2200 plugged via Ethernet cable to the PC
    -     I downloaded Airport utility for windows 5.6.1
    -     The  Airport Extreme is new (5th generation)
    My wish:
    -     Using the Airport Extreme in another room of my house connected wirelessly to my existing Netgear router,  as an extender of the network
    Problems that  I found:
    -     Wirelessly the base is not found by Airport utility
    -     To find the base I have to plug an Ethernet cable from the Netgear Router to a port on the Airport base, but not the first WAN port,  I have to use one of the others.
    -     When I find the base  I try setting-up it with the Bridge Mode, but then it gives errors 6753 or 10057.
    -     I tried to change settings on the Netgear  Router  or  reset them, but nothing ..
    and so on many tries.
If someone of you had  the same Netgear Modem Router (DGN2200)  and use an Airport Extreme base like an extender in bridge mode, please tell me what configuration, in the Router Modem and on the Airport base,  works fine.
Thank you very much in advance.
    Best regards.

I can only create a  “New Wireless Network” (no bridge mode) connected to Netgear Modem Router by Ethernet cable ,  in this way I would have 2 networks, one from the Netgear and another  from the Airport, but the source of wireless will be in the same room (because they will be connected together by cable).
I already provided the instructions for this in my post above. Here they are again:
Configure the AirPort to "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, same wireless security and same wireless password as the Netgear network....and...configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode to work correctly on the network.
If you do this, then the AirPort and Netgear devices will work together to act like one "big" network. That is because you have two routers producing the same network.
If  I bought 2 Powerline extenders, one connected close to the Netgear Router and the other one connected to power line in the other room,
could I connect  by cable the Airport Extreme to the second extender
If you cannot connect an Ethernet cable from the Netgear to the AirPort Extreme, then you might be able to use a pair of Ethernet powerline adapters to send the signal over the AC wiring in your home.
I have not found powerline products to be reliable in general when I have used them, so make sure that you understand the store's return policies in advance if you decide to try them.

  • I have a BT home Hub 3 with standard BT broadband(no infinity), how do I set up an Apple AirPort Extreme without a stand alone modem? Can I use my current Home Hub

I want to use an Apple AirPort Extreme as my home router but at present I have standard BT broadband using the BT Home hub 3. Can I connect them in some way so I don't need to buy a stand alone modem.
    IS THIS POSSIBLE???
    1. Would Apple AirPort Express be better and easier?
    2. What modem would be suitable if I can't do it any other way?
I AM CURRENTLY USING MY INTERNET WITH PS3,WINDOWS 7 LAPTOP, IPAD AND IPHONE!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

You said that you wanted the layout to look like this:
AT&T 2WIRE Router (wireless off) ---> AirPort Extreme ---> NetGear 16-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch ---> ethernet cabling to ports in most rooms --->
So, we took that at face value....,.but it could look like this if things are more convenient this way, if you prefer:
AT&T 2WIRE  > Ethernet Switch > AirPort Extreme and other devices.
    - If we include an AirPort Extreme in the overall network setup, are there any potential issues with the 2WIRE router and the AirPort Extreme router "competing" with one another?
No, if you leave the wireless function off on the 2WIRE.  If you do want the utilize the wireless on the 2WIRE and the AirPort Extreme, then you want to keep them physically separated by 6-8 feet, or a few meters.
    - Do I really need an AirPort Extreme in the final setup?
No, if the AirPort Express will provide enough range for the network.
Or if I just want an extra WAP, can I operate two AirPort Express units (with the same SSID) downstream of a 2WIRE router?
Yes, if both of them are configured to operate in Bridge Mode.  If you are using the "wizard" setup utility in AirPort Utility 6.x, the wizard will do this for you automatically.
That is to say, could we have a setup that looks just like the image above, but with an extra AirPort Express tacked on to one of the unused ethernet ports?
You can have as many AirPort Express devices (or AirPort Extreme devices) as you want, as long as each has an Ethernet connection back to the switch.

  • Airport Extreme and BT ADSL

I've tried for hours to find a discussion that concludes by recommending an ADSL modem to pair with a (Fifth Generation) Airport Extreme Base Station using one of the BT-based broadband services in the UK. I'm currently working very reliably through an aging Belkin Wireless G Router (F5D7633x4) but I'm updating my whole Mac set-up (just received a gorgeous top-of-the -range 13-inch MacBook Pro with SSD - what a gem) and am looking for gigabit wired connection and genuine - ie simultaneous - dual band wireless working. After a massive amount of Googling I plumped for an Apple Store refurb AEBS - useful saving over list price and I'm sure the package has never been opened. My logic is that the AEBS will last for years but I may want to update the modem as DSL evolves. By the way, my ISP, NewNet is satisfactory in every other way but their techicnal support doesn't seem to know the difference between a modem, a router and a device that combines the two functions; they advised me that the majority of gigabit/dual-band "routers" have a built-in modem, which is simply wrong.
Anyway - any advice on choice of modem and setting it up.

Double NAT is usually not too serious of an error on most home networks. It does cause issues with devices like on-line gaming consoles. Sometimes devices will get "lost" on the network when you apply a future firmeware update as well.
It also tends to slow connections down a bit since the signal must pass through 2 firewalls instead of one,
The Guest Network feature may...or may not...work correctly with the Double NAT.
If you notice no ill effects, you may be OK.
If you want to eliminate the Double NAT, that may not be possible with the D-Link depending on your DSL connection type. Normally, you would configure the D-Link in Bridge Mode and set up the PPP service on the AirPort Extreme.
The problem will be if your DSL authenticates using PPPoA. The AirPorts do not support that, only PPPoE.
That is why I recommended the Vigor product. It is a PPPoA to PPPoE bridge.

  • Airport extreme wont work with dhcp modem

    Hello,
my airport extreme quits to work with my adsl modem after several hours (one night), the internet connection is gone even when the light is still green, maybe after the internet provider changes ip?
I am using wireless lan to get the connection.
If I then take out the cable from my modem and put it directly into my computer via ethernet, internet signal is there and everything works fine. Sometimes, restarting the airport extreme station and putting out/in the ethernet cable, helps and the internet signal is there for a whole day, but next morning same procedure..
    Thanks
    Stefan

Think you are suffering from the same problem that '000s of AEB 802.11n users have. I have tried every fix shown on Discussions and nothing has proved to be permanent.
It is said that Apple is aware of the issue and a permanent fix is coming with 10.5.5 to be released soon. Hope this is right because it is driving me nuts.
Are you really using 10.4.11 - if so, don't know what your fix is.

  • Airport Extreme and Netgear DG834G v2 very slow

    Hi,
I've just bought an iMac 17" dual core and I'm having problems with slow download speeds when connecting to my wireless network: I have an Airport Extreme card and a wireless ADSL Netgear DG834G v2 router. All my machines on this network all have acceptable download speed but when I use my mac, the download speed is very poor. For example, I tried to download a file on my XP machine and got a rate of ~250kb/sec but when I use the mac, I get ~40kb/sec. In general, internet browsing on the mac is very slow.
    Things I've tried:
    1) Plugged the mac into ethernet and that is working fine so the wireless connection seems to be the problem.
    2) Put the XP machine and mac (both working wirelessly) at the same location - the mac is considerably slower than the xp machine.
    3) I've downloaded and installed all the latest updates and firmware for the mac but this has made no difference.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try next?
    Regards

  • Airport Extreme and Netgear DG934G

I have just got my broadband activated yesterday. Using the Netgear router (the dark grey one) I can access the internet but range is not great.
This is what I would like to do.
I have an airport extreme which I used with Virgin with no problems and it has a great range. I also have Apple tv and an Airport express which I use to stream my music to my kitchen. I have a macbook and my partner has a Vista Laptop.
I would like to use the Netgear as a modem only and use the Airport Extreme as my router to distribute the ip addresses.
Can this be done? If so can anyone tell me what settings to use?
I know I can turn of the wireless on the netgear and wire it with ethernet into the extreme but I am unsure as to what settings to use on both.
Can you also have a g network with the Netgear and an N network with the Airport Extreme?
    Can anyone help?

I know I can turn of the wireless on the netgear and wire it with ethernet into the extreme but I am unsure as to what settings to use on both.
You would turn off the wireless on the Netgear following the directions in the Netgear User's guide.
You would configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to act as a bridge (not sharing a single IP address).
Can you also have a g network with the Netgear and an N network with the Airport Extreme?
Sure. Same settings as above except the Netgear would be configured with the wireless enabled.

  • New Extreme/Express updates & ADSL X-Modem

    Hi all,
I have had so many prolems since the failed 5.6 update that I wondered whether to install the 5.7/6/3 at all when news greeted me this morning that it was out. Well, I thought it cant get any worse so went ahead and installed it. Incidentally I use the ADSL X-Modem CE for UK broadband access and this combination has proved to be particularly problematic.
Early results are the installation has gone without a hitch and............. I am connected with no problems! Fingers crossed and this has sorted out the horrendous Airport transmission problems as the signal never did get back to normal after the move back to 5.5.1
Looking at the Airport Client Monitor and the transmission rate is also nice and high at 54mps with just a blip or two. This compares to regular views under the previous setup where the transmission chart resembled a mountain range.
I will test it extensively today but so far, for owners of the ADSL Nation modem, all seems fine.
    Fingers crossed!
    Regards
    Michael

Thanks guys, you just saved me £120. I was about to buy a AEBS off the Apple store online and I certainly don't think it's clear that you have to have a modem as well to make this work. I'd just assumed that I could replace my old Netgear ADSL DG834G wireless router with an AEBS and get a superfast network but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Scanning through these posts it seems like there might be a workaround where I can utilise the existing router - but what's the point? I can get a new Netgear DG834N for £85. I don't mind paying a premium for Apple products but it's either pay £120 for the AEBS, have to set up two routers and have them both lying around with the only advantage being the AirDisk (the only feature I'd really like) or £85 for a simple replacement but with no AirDisk.
I'm not sure that AirDisk is worth £120.
I notice that the Netgear DG834N isn't available in the US - does this mean that US and UK routers are different?
Whilst we're on the US/UK thing - when are movies going to be available on itunes? and what about the iphone - if it's 2.5G and only a 2MP camera, and can't support Java apps (I use the Gmail and Sky By Mobile apps all the time) forget it. It's got to be better than my K800i, then I'd buy one 'in a heartbeat'
Come on Apple - please remember there are non-US customers who WANT to spend money buying your stuff!

  • Cascade AirPort Extreme to Netgear Router

I am trying to create two (2) separate networks within my home (Note: I do not want any communication between the networks), using two different routers; (1) an Airport Extreme (5th generation) and a Netgear Nighthawk (AC1900).
I would like to connect the Netgear directly to the modem and then connect the LAN port of the Netgear router to the WAN port of the AirPort (LAN-WAN connection).  Since the routers have two different IP addressing systems, I assume I do not need to worry about static IP address or disabling the DHCP.
Unfortunately, when I set it up, I am unable to get a connection on the Airport.  I tested the wired connection on the Netgear to assure there is a wired Internet connection and there is, but when I plug it into the Airport, I am unable to get the Airport to work.  If I reverse the set-up and connect the Airport directly to the router and then make a LAN to WAN connection from the Airport to the Netgear, I can get both routers to work, but for security reasons, I would rather have the Netgear directly connected to the modem and have the Airport be after the Netgear.  Any help in how to make this work or what I may be doing wrong would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks

  • Airport extreme or netgear 3100 in bridge mode

I have just upgraded to fast internet and Telstra have supplied a Netgear 3100 D modem/router.
This modem is linked to an airport extreme (currently in bridge mode) which is the hardwired to a router (Intelligent) before hard wired to a time capsule and linked wireless airport express to send wireless around house.
my question is, what is the best set up. The netgear modem/router in bridge mode with airport extreme with DHCP and NAT or leaving the modem/router in DHCP and NAT and Airport extreme in bridge?
is one better than the other?
    thx

One is not better than the other....unless you require that the AirPort Extreme also provide a Guest Network, which it cannot do in Bridge Mode.
Things will be much simpler though, if you leave the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode and let the Telstra provide DHCP and NAT services for the network.

  • Airport Extreme Configuration with ADSL Libero (Italiano)

Sorry... this topic is in Italian, please post a question if you need a translation.
Buona navigazione a tutti!

When an Airport Extreme is set to Bridge mode, is DHCP off by default? That is, does the APE router also hand out ip addresses?
When the AirPort Extreme is in bridge mode, DHCP and NAT are turned off, so any devices that are connected to the Extreme will get their IP addresses and network information from the "main" router on the network.
The network configuration I have is: Cable Modem -> 4 port Leviton Fast Ethernet router -> Apple Airport Extreme
That should work if the Leviton is configured correctly to provide DHCP and NAT services
Ideally, I'd like to use the 3 open ports (with 4th one used for Airport Extreme) at times, connect to wireless with Airport Extreme and also use the 3 available ports on the Airport Extreme without any collisions.
That should be a simple matter providing that things are configured correctly.
What can I configure on the Airport Express so all of the traffic is routed correctly?
If you have the Extreme in bridge mode, all the routing is being done by the Leviton router. The Extreme is simply acting as an ethernet "switch" in this type of configuration. It performs no routing functions at all, but can provide a wireless network if you need that capability.
