Airport Extreme doesn't connect to my WLAN when powered later than my TC

I'm using a German Telekom ADSL modem connected to the newest Time Capsule as a base station for my WLAN. Everything works fine and I'm able to connect several iMacs and MacBook Pros as well as two Epson MFPs. In the evening I disconnect Power from the modem and the TC because I don't want to leave it on during night. In the morning it makes no difference in which order I switch everything on - everything connects fine on the WLAN:
I connected the newest version of an Airport Extreme to my OKI laser MFP which I don't use very much. Therefore I connect both to power only whenn I need to print something in large quantities or big formats.
Problem is now that I need to turn off (disconnect from power) the TC and my modem, connect the Airport Extreme to power first and then connect to power the TC and the modem again to get the Airport Extreme working. If I just connect the Airport Extreme to power the indicator light flashes in yellow and it is not found by the Airport software. This is very time consuming and interrupts the work for all my employees.
Does somebody here has an idea how to solve the problem? Or do you advise to buy an WLAN print server to solve the issue?
Many thanks!

Ok, and that is why you are having this problem. I hate to say it, but your situation would be much simpler if you just left all your networking equipment on. Besides they consume very little power and were designed to operate 24x7. Constantly recycling power can actually cause more harm via voltage spikes which can wear down the equipment over time.
Obviously, there are two sides to this "leave on vs. power-off" argument, and I respect both ... but, your networking requirements really do make more sense just leaving them on.

  • AirPort Extreme doesn't connect to SMC Barricade

    Hello,
My brand new MacBook doesn't connect to my wireless LAN.
The symptoms are as follows: The MacBook does see the network and knows that it is WPA-PSK protected but cannot connect, aborting with "There was an error joining the AirPort network ...".
I have tried many different settings, even switching off wirelss security altogether, but I wasn't able to connect even once.
My iBook 12" worked with the WLAN, even though it infrequently dropped the connection initially, but that was eventually fixed by patches released by Apple in 2006.
I understand that many people have issues with "legacy" (> 2 year old) WLAN routers, or are also outright unable to connect.
Since Apple had to go through the learning curve already with earlier AirPort equipment, I would expect that there would be a fix soon.
Does anyone have specific information about this, or hints for a workaround?
    Sebastian.
    Details:
    * SMC 7804WBRA NE, ADSL Barricade g
    (ADSL modem + 802.11a/b/g WLAN + router)
    latest firmware (v0.85 of 26-Nov-2004)
    * MacBook 13" white, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM
    includes AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x87), firmware 1.0.47
    Mac OS X 10.4.9 (8P4112), Darwin 8.9.3
    with AirPort Updates 2007-001, -002, -003
    * The only mildly suspicious lines in the logs are:
May 31 10:01:11 Nolde kernel[0]: 11D beacon causing regdomain change to CC 276
    May 31 10:01:11 Nolde kernel[0]: en1: 802.11d country code set to 'DE'.

  • Airport Extreme Doesn't Connect Wirelessly with TC

When I first bought the Time Capsule I was told that I would be able to plug the Time Capsule to the Ethernet modem and then use my Airport Extreme wirelessly (meaning all I have to do was plug in the A/C adapter) to extend the network. So, I went ahead and created a new network with the TC in the first floor and then attempted to set up the Airport Extreme upstairs, but when I started to set it up it kept on asking me to connect an ethernet cable and it did not give me the option to add it to the TC wirelessly, so I had to bring it back down to the first floor and connect it to the TC via ethernet. My question is: Is this how is supposed to be? How can I take the Airport Extreme upstairs without running any cables? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Airport Extreme Doesn't Connect to Internet

I've been trying, for a couple days - to figure out the AE.  I want to replace my Verizon-provided router, with the AE - because for whatever reason - since adding the Verizon router, my Apple TV's don't see my PC (and my PC is the home to my iTunes library).
I've got a solid green light on the front of the AE.  I've got solid green lights on the back for:  Wan Ethernet connection and 2 PC Ethernet Connections. My AirPort Utility App on my iPhone shows "green" for the base station but "amber" for the internet.  My Apple TV's and iPhones also all show up on the AE.
Should I manually reset the AE here?
Also - even though I have FiOS - I don't have FiOS TV, and the folks at FiOS said there are no unique "gotchas" in switching routers.  And although I haven't tried it - I don't want to set the AE up as a bridge to the Verizon - I want to use the AE and only the AE.
After hours of trying (multiple times) I always reconnect th FiOS router and everything comes up flashing green with good connectivity.
Any ideas on the way forward?
    Thanks much!
    -Coach B.

If you have the HP 2605dn printer attached to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) (or any router) by Ethernet, then the AEBSn is NOT performing as a Print Server. Instead, the printer itself would have to be configured to provide this service.
I don't have this particular printer, but I do have a network-ready HP Officejet model that I have my network clients (Macs, PCs, & even Linux) connect to. The key is either using the unit's interfact panel to configure the appropriate network settings specific for your network.

  • Wifi signal from Airport Extreme doesn't reach all areas of my house.  Is there a way to extend it without sacrificing bandwidth?  Airport Extreme version 7.6.1

The wifi signal from my Airport Extreme doesn't reach all areas of my house.  Is there a way to extend it without sacrificing bandwidth?  I have an Airport Extreme running version 7.6.1.

You will need to add another device like an AirPort Extreme to provide additional wireless coverage in the house.
The only way to preserve bandwidth on a network would be to connect the two AirPort Extremes using an Ethernet cable connection.
While you can "extend" using wireless only, typically half of the bandwidth on the network is sacrificed when you do this.

Airport extreme has to connect to internet if computer goes to screen saver.  Any way around this?

Describe the issue in more detail.. as it doesn't currently make sense.. the AE should always be connected to the internet. It should never disconnect.. but the computer can fail to connect to wireless after sleep.. that is common problem.
See Tesserax docos if you have wireless connect issues after sleep.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't cover (large) house. Is it possible to configure a "repeater" of some type?

Airport Extreme doesn't cover all of my (large) house. Is it possible to configure some sort of repeater?

Ideally, you would locate another AirPort Extreme, or possibly an AirPort Express in the central portion of the area that needs more wireless coverage and then connect back to your "main" AirPort Extreme using a wired Ethernet connection.
This type of setup provides the best performance for the network while allowing you to place the extending device exactly where it is needed.
Alternately, you may be able to locate another AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express at an approximate mid-point between your "main" AirPort Extreme and the area that needs more coverage and connect the remote device using wireless only to "extend a wireless network".
As you might imagine, the "extending" device can only extend or repeat the quality of signal that it receives, so establishing a line-of-sight relationship between the main and extending device would be ideal. Otherwise, you may be able to get away with a wall or two or a ceiling in the signal path, but this is always somewhat an "iffy" proposition because it is just not possible to accurately predict wireless performance in advance.

Unfortunately, you are describing the symptoms of an AirPort Extreme with a failing (or failed) internal power supply.
As a last resort, try a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Power off the AirPort by pulling the power cord
    Wait a minute or two
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort
Release the reset button and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Now try to configure the AirPort again.  If you continue to see the same symptoms as before, the AirPort will need to be replaced.

  • My airport extreme will not connect to the Internet

My airport extreme will not connect to my toshiba router. I connected it to my office internet this morning but when I hooked it up at home it simply will not connect. I have tried resetting all the settings and have had no luck. It did work once upon a time. I currently have my airport express hooked up so I know there is connectivity.

I could never figure it out after trying everything I could and going to the genius bar I ended up just purchasing another extreme.  The really funny thing is that I can set up a network between the two and it works fine.  I am using it at work now with out any problems so I guess there is really no loss :-?

    Hi Jake,
Is it connecting to the Router or Modem?
Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>Airport>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply.
    Also, turn off IPv6:

  • I have AirPort Extreme and cannot connect to the internet with a land line but the WiFi works

I have an AirPort Extreme and have been using for several months successfully, but as of two weeks ago, the line that I have hooked up to my desktop no longer provides internet service, but the WiFi works fine for the I-Pad and I-Pod.
I have checked with my service provider and my modem works successfully hooked up the the AirPort extreme or directly to the PC.  When I am hooked in from the modem directly to my PC, I have internet for my desktop, but of course no WiFi.
If I connect the Modem to the Router and the router to my desktop, I have WiFi, but no internet service to my desktop.
I have replaced the network cable but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

It appears that there may be something amiss with the Ethernet switch that is built-in the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) or its configuration settings may be incorrect. I assume that you also tried using the other LAN ports on the AEBSn and the outcome was the same ... no Internet access via a wired connection.
One thing to try is to change the Ethernet adapter settings on the PC. It is possible that its current settings may be appropriate when connected directly to the Internet modem, but may be off for connecting to the AEBSn. If your PC's Ethernet adapter has options to control Speed, Duplex, & MTU, I would change these to the following respectively: 1000 Mbps, Full duplex, & 1500

  • Airport extreme unable to connect to new router

We just received a new router from our cable company. The old router worked with our airport extreme just fine.  After hooking up the new router the airport extreme could not connect to it.  I received the following error "error occurred while trying to access the apple wireless device.  Make sure your connection is valid Error -6753" So then I tried to power off and reset the Airport extreme.  The button was stuck on my reset button.  I did figure that out and was able to click the button.  But even if I would hear the audible click when i held down the reset button the amber light never flashed rapidly?  Not sure what else to do.  I have turned off the modem, unplugged the router, plugged them back in. etc.   I just don't know where to go from here.
    Thanks!
    jodi

Were you able to get the AirPort Extreme to reset back to factory default settings, as LaPastenague detailed?
The amber light needs to flash rapidly for about 6-8 seconds during the process to indicate that the reset is taking place correctly. Once you release the reset button, the light will stay solid amber for 15-20 seconds or so, then change to slow blinking amber.
We are a bit confused as well, since in your first post you mention that you received a new router from the cable company, then later in the post, you mention that you have a (separate?) modem.
In the most recent post, you mention that you have a new modem. Is the new router from the cable company the same device as the new modem?  Or, do you have a new modem and another new router in addition to the AirPort Extreme?
Can you clarify on exactly what devices that you have? Make and model numbers would help. We know that you have an AirPort A1408.

  • Airport Extreme won't connect with my cable modem (Time Warner)

OK, I'm tired of staring at a blinking amber light. I'm reaching out to anyone out there who's had this problem. I've got everything connected right, the software loaded, the connections set on my laptop (Macbok Pro). But still my Airport Extreme won't connect to the Internet. I've tried different cables, rebooting both my modem and my Airport. For the record, I've had a Mac IT guy from my advertising agency come by my house and make sure that everything's installed and hooked up right. But it still keeps saying that my IP address is invalid, even though I can connect (wired) using the modem.
I suspect I'll just have to take it to the Genius Bar or something. But anybody got any ideas? I really want to join the 'n' generation....

Did you power off the cable modem when switching the Ethernet connection from laptop to AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)? This is usually required.

No, the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) does not have any type of audio output.
Are you thinking of the AirPort Express which does have an audio output?

  • Airport extreme doesn't see my hard drive (free agent 500Gb)

airport extreme doesn't see my hard drive (free agent 500Gb)

A few things to check are:
Make sure that the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT32. The normal Windows format of NTFS will not work.
The USB port at the AirPort Exteme is under powered. You almost always need to use a powered USB hub with a drive at this port, even if the drive has its own power supply.
