Airport Extreme doesn't show up in Airport Utility.

Just got a new Mac Mini and a new Airport Extreme.
When I tried to set up Airport Extreme today, ran into some problems.
1)  Light is flashing amber
2)  Airport Extreme does not show up in Airport Utility
3)  I have DSL and ethernet cable is plugged into WAN port on Airport Extreme.
4)  Both units are sitting side by side and yet there's no connection detected.
5)  Airport Utility keeps telling me to rescan as it cannot detect any wireless devices.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

If you are trying to connect using wireless, make sure that you are connected to the default wireless network that the AirPort Extreme provides for setup purposes. The network that you are looking for will have a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. There is no security, so a password is not required. It usually also helps to restart both the computer and the AirPort Extreme.
You can also temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme. Restart both the computer and the AirPort Extreme when you do this.

  • My airport extreme doesn't show up in the airport utility but my sister's does.  How do I get mine to show up?

I just bought an Airport Extreme and so did my sister who lives upstairs.  She setup first and now when I try to setup mine only hers shows up in the Airport Utility.  I've tried numerous times but the utility can not find my base.  I've reset it too and nothing.  What can I do?

Are you trying to set up yours through the iPad or computer (Mac/ PC)?
If you are setting up yours through iPad for the first time, first connect the internet cable to your WAN (if you are using DSL) or through your router if you are using a modem.
once all cables are attached (internet and power) power up your Airport extreme (give it few minutes to load) then go to setting on your iPad and click on Wi-Fi, you should see wireless network names (in case there are any near by) and below them you should see an airport extreme device with random number (the device number before setup) click on it and follow the steps to set up your airport extreme for the first time, once you are done, the device will restart and it will appear as a wireless network under wireless network names in settings (no longer as an airport extreme device since it is already been setup)
After you have done this, now you can open your airport utility app and you will be able to see your airport extreme there.
You may be asked for an administrator password to access the device if you already setup that during the process)
Note that, in order for any iPad to control Airport extreme via airport utility (if the airport extreme is already configured), the iPad must be configured to same Wi-Fi of the airport extreme (your device must be registered and connected through the same wireless network).
note that is you later wish to control your device from a PC, Mac or any IOS device, make sure to log and join your WiFi first, and then open airport utility and you will see it listed there.
    Hope this works for you.

  • Added diskpace doesn't show up in Disk Utility

My Problem: I can't get my added disk space to show up on my RAID volume.
Here's what I have done so far:
I just added 3 drives to my upper controller. I now have 7 drives, each are 250 GB for a total of 1.37 TB of disk space. The 7 drives are configured into a RAID 5 array. I used the expansion option under "advanced" in RAID admin. Everything in RAID Admin looks fine. My array shows online, total space shows as 1.37 TB, everything is green lights.
I am using disk utility from my G5 Xserve to configure and partition the RAID volume. But the volume still shows 700 GB--the amount of space I had previous to adding the 3 additional drives. I have restarted the RAID and my Xserve, I have erased the RAID volume using Disk Utility, I have even re-initialized my Array using RAID Admin. What do I need to do to get my RAID volume to show up in Disk Util as 1.37 TB?

I also had this problem - added two 250GB drives to an exisiting RAID 5 array via the expand array part of RAID Admin. Appeared to work fine and the expanded array showed up in RAID Admin at the right capacity but refused to be updated on our Xserve (either through the finder or Disk Utility). I did the same as you have (formatted the expanded array through Disk Utility, re-booted the Xserve, etc.), but I couldn't get the extra disk space to show up.
I ended up deleting the array in RAID Admin (the data was copied off before I used Disk Utility on it anyway) and rebuilt it using the original drives plus the two new ones. After a re-boot of the Xserve, this showed up as the correct, expanded size once formatted in Disk Utility. I've since found out that you need to go to 'Advanced' and then 'Slicing' in RAID Admin, to merge the new slices representing the new drives after you add them during expansion. Perhaps if you haven't done this give it a try, re-boot, and see what Disk Utility has to say about the capacity of the array?
    Cheers

  • My new ssd doesn't show up in Disk Utility please help

    Hi all,
I had a HDD failure in my mbp (2012). It completly crashed. I was able to make a copy of some files through Disk Utility. (Note: at this point i could only enter disk utility after start up not in the actual OS)
    So i bought a Kingston ssdNow v300.
What i did is the following:
Put an clean Mavericks install on a usb drive.
Put the ssd in the MBP
Pressed the option key to boot through the USB and the mbp didn't see the usb.
Booted up through command + R and the computer did see the usb however it did not see the new SSD.
Tried booting up again with command + R and it did see the SSD in the disk utility (after a long load time of recovering the disk data)
Now i knew i had the reformat the ssd in order to install OS X again.
However all the options are greyed out! I can't choose erase/reformat nothing.
Also i rebooted several times and sometimes the mbp didn;t see the ssd anymore... and sometimes it did.
Also if it does see the ssd in the disk utility and i close and re-open disk utility, the ssd in gone!
So sometimes it is recognized and sometimes it isn't.
I am not able to reformat it through an external exclosure or anything.
Also I tried deleting osx mavericks installer on the usb drive and put Os recovery assistant on it. (Which the computer did recognize)
But also this didn't work at all.
I really don't know what to do anymore.
I was hoping to be able to just simply reformat the ssd through disk utility but it doesn't give me this option.
    please help is appreciated!

You need to use external media in FCP if you're going to work with Motion. Or export the clips you need from FCP.

  • I have just bought a macbook pro and i want to use an ext hard drive with it which i previously used on a windows computer, but when i plug it in it doesn't show up on my macbook pro, I've wiped it and just need to format it but don't know how, help

Try the other USB port. If it still doesn't show up in Disk Utility then there may be something wrong with your Mac. Try something else in each USB port and see if it is seen. If the other thing, like a USB thumb drive, does show up in disk utiltiy then the USB ports are fine.
Power down the system and restart with the drive connected, go to DU and see it it is seen.

  • Western digital hard drive doesn't show up anymore

I bought a Macbook Pro a few months ago and I've been using my Western Digital external USB hard drive with up until now with no problems. Then today for some reason, I turn my computer on and the drive doesn't show up anymore. It doesn't show up in disk utility either. I've rebooted a few times but no luck. I inserted a flash drive and it mounts ok so it's not the USB port. I even switched usb cables just in case the cable was bad. Any suggestions?

    Hi there
Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your Mac.
Is the ext HD a powered drive (needs AC power to run) or portable? (smaller, doesn't need to be plugged in to AC)
If its AC powered, check that all the usual lights are lit up on it (flashing activity light, power light etc), if not, then you would need to contact WD.
You can also try resetting the SMC & PRAM, as I have seen this cause a HD to not mount before.

  • Disk utility doesn't show xServe RAID Array

I have a new (to me) xServe RAID box and I'm stuck, the stays lights are green the fiber link light is green on the RAID and not lit on the PCI card but shows up as green in the fiber link section of the settings tool but the RAID array doesn't show up in Disk Utility so I can't format the drives.
I set up the disks as Enhanced JBOD using RAIDadmin and I've deleted and created it a couple of times, I'm just not sure what else I should try, I've read the manual but. Can't find any suggestions of what's going wrong.
    Thanks

If you have tried restarting a few times and it still doesn't show up I'm afraid you are gonna have to go back in and check the connections. I know they just slot into the carriage, but possibly it is not in tight. I can only suggest you open it up and check everything thoroughly. If after a thorough check, if it still does not mount you may want to take the hard drive back and swap it. Are you sure it was only a hard drive failure in the first place? I only ask this because WD hard drives have quite a solid reputation.

  • External hard drive not showing up in Disk Utility

I'm attempting to transfer something from my Mac to my Windows with a Toshiba 1 TB USB external drive. When I plug it in, however, it doesn't show up in Disk Utility, Finder, or the Desktop

No I don't, I was using it less than a half an hour before then I plugged it in, and it wasn't popping up again.

    Port 1: Link Established
    2Gps
    Point to point
    Status light green
In the system Profiler I'm not sure what you're asking for, I'm running 10.5.8 standard not server.
the fibre channel shows link established 2Gps and cable type copper but nothing else, the disks & RAID controller don't show up anywhere I've looked.
RAID Admin shows the JBOD disks as online and lists the LUNs etc.
System looks fine, only error is missing second power supply.

  • I'm trying to set up time machine to back up on an external HD connected t my airport extreme, but the disk doesn't show as an option in the time machine selecting a disk, any suggestion anyone? My mac "sees" the airport extreme   ??

I'm trying to set up time machine to back up on an external HD connected t my airport extreme, but the disk doesn't show as an option in the time machine selecting a disk, any suggestion anyone? My mac "sees" the airport extreme   ??

The first important thing to consider here is that Apple does not support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, so that may likely have something to do with your difficulties.
If you want to continue to try this, the drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and you almost always have to use a powered USB hub with a drive at the port of the Extreme...even if the hard drive has its own power supply....because the port on the Extreme is under powered.
Most users who try this unsupported method have corruption difficulties sooner or later, but we do hear from some users who seem to be able to make it work.
The bottom line is that there is no support from Apple on this if you have difficulties, so you may want to consider a secondary backup plan for your important data.

  • Airport extreme base station doesn't show up on network?

I just set up a wireless airport extreme base station to my PowerBook G4 and hooked my printer to it.  All good.  I also set up a new iPad wifi, and that also is good.  I'm just wondering why the base-station doesn't show up in Finder Network?  Any ideas?  The Network says Neighborhood, but nothing  happens or shows up, when I open it.

this did not solve my questions.
Your question was.......I'm just wondering why the base-station doesn't show up in Finder Network?
We provided answers specifying when the Extreme would and would not appear in the Finder.
As for the "why", here you are asking about design decisions that have been made by Apple. No one on a user to user forum will be able to answer for Apple. If you want to pursue this, you will need to contact Apple directly.
Looks like John Galt has it covered as far as the hard drive question.

  • Old PBG4 17 with new logic board doesn't show "built-in" AirPort

I just replaced the logic board in my summer 2003 PowerBook G4 17" which should have standard built-in AirPort. But when I go to Network, AirPort doesn't exist.
Does anyone know what the problem/cause may be? Did I miss re-connecting something? Or is the AirPort built into the logic board and the new one just didn't have one???
Please tell me before I take it a part again...
    Thanks in Advance!
    Dan

I've tried to reset all of them and now only the Extreme shows up in the Airport utility.
But I can find the Expresses as Wireless Clients. Somehow the Extreme doesn't recognise them as Airports.
With my PC I can access them all through Airport utility and they are well whithin range and respond to changes I make to the settings.
It must be the settings of the Extreme that's I've messed up.
I'll try another reset and start from scratch, again...

  • AirPort Express doesn't show in AirPort Utility any more/won't connect to network

I have an older airport express that I use wirelessly with an AirPort Extreme to extend my network and stream music via AirPlay.  Within the last couple of days it has been unable to join the network.  It has always worked just fine until now.
The Airport Express powers up, flashes green once, then goes to amber flashing and stays that way forever.  The Airport Express does not show up in AirPort Utility at all.
I have tried soft, hard, and factory resets to no avail.
    The Airport Express info:
    Model A1084
Can't check firmware version beasue it doesn't show up in Airport Utility
The Airport Extreme Info (which is working perfectly fine):
    Model A1143
    Version 7.6.4
    Any further suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dawn

Mavericks (Apple) will not let you run an older version of AirPort Utility on Mavericks.
So I've just discovered.  Unfortunately I don't think booting from my older OS is going to work either, as it appears that 6.3.2 is also what I have installed there.
Doesn't make sense to me still, though, as I upgraded to Mavericks on day 1, but the Airport Expressed worked fine until yeterday.
I have a roomie with a PC.  Will see if we can configure it on his computer.

  • Airport Admin Utility Doesn't Show Basestation

I just moved, and neither my Airport Extreme or Airport Express show up in the Airport Admin Utility even though they both appear under the Airport menu bar pull-down menu. I've done hard resets for both with to no effect.

Well MY base station doesn't show up at all no matter what I do...
I had my network running just fine and then one day it jsut stopped working. Try as I might, I couldn't connect to the Base Station to change or even see what was wrong.
I thought that it was my base station since it was old and had a lot of hours on it, so I got another one.
Now, out of the box it still won't show up on either Airport Admin or Setup Assistant. The Network is there, but the base station doesn't come up. I've done a soft restart a number of times, unplugged it and let it sit before trying again and even restarted my computer as well with no luck. My computer works fine wirelessly and I can connect to networks without a problem.
    What's Up?!
