Airport Extreme Fix for AE basestations

Ok... this may be limited to my hardware and circumstance. I've been having a dickens of a time with my mbp c2d wireless connections. I live in an apartment building with lots of "noise" and competing AP's. Prior to this patch, my connections would drop every few minutes. After I installed the 2007-1 update and I couldn't maintain a connection for more then a few seconds. My wireless ap's are 2 airport extremes, that bridge 2 networks, through wds and while both servicing wireless clients. The networks are closed and all encryption is WPA.
So, here's how I got it all stabilized...
1) set the ae ap to a channel that does not have any other wireless devices on it. For me, I chose channel 3.
2) Turn OFF interface robustness on the AE AP
3) Turn OFF interface robustness on the mbp
4) Enjoy stable connectivity.

yours sounds easier. i tried so many different hit and miss attempts i may have done a sequence that fixed it without knowing and misidentified a sequence that really did nothing. i wish i knew how to go back two updates because thats when i noticed that my internet had become painfully slow. its still slow now. when i click a page the blue progress line indicator in my address bar starts and stops many times inching along until the page opens. as much as 10-15 seconds depending on which sites: apple start page, hotmail, youtube, ebay etc. ever since i downloaded that fateful patch two updates ago. im using dsl 7268k speed. my shameful time killing diablo2 game has become unplayable online. when i notice my mercenary moonwalking in place while im standing in a group of monsters i thought i was killing, all the sudden the lag catches up and im dead before i can drink a potion. bye experience, bye gold. just a game but i feel sorry for people that rely on the internet to get work done. thats why windows rules the business world to apples chagrin. oh well i still have garageband and photobooth lol
ill never trust apple again when they offer update 'fixes' until i go through the hassle of searching their forums for a week sorting out who got r,aped and read the novels of desperate posters scrambling to get machines back to working condition.

eBay is a good source, though as ever, buy wisely and make sure you get the right card for your specific model.
Alternatively there are wireless cards available that go in the card slot. Again eBay is full of them but be sure they're OSX compatible - its a good idea to put this phrase in your search terms.

It just plugged straight in and was recognised as an Airport Card. This is from the UK site but I'm sure you can find the same thing wherever you live, or at that price just have it shipped.

Airport Extreme card for Powerbook G4 12"

I want to get an Airport Extreme card for my 12" Powerbook, however, am a little confused as to which one will work with it. I am currently running a 867Mhz PowerPC system. I have seen two part numbers for the Airport Extreme card, A1026 and A1027. I was hoping that someone might be able to clarify the correct one I need, thanks.

Which Airport Extreme Card for 1.25Ghz 17"

I am trying to purchase an Airport Extreme card for my 1.25Ghz iMac G4 17", but I seem to be finding a lot of iBook and other random Extreme cards, so I am lost which one is compatible with mine.
I found this one that also is combined with a Bluetooth card. I would love if this is the right one or if it will even work because i hate having to use the corded mighty mouse with it.

It does not include Bluetooth. The best way to add Bluetooth, if that is important, is with a USB Bluetooth adapter. This is the one that Apple officially approves for use with Macs that do not have built-in Bluetooth.

Since that G4 iMac has USB 2.0, you may want to consider a USB wireless adapter as well, instead of the AirPort Extreme card. Here is one, sold by OWC (a Mac-oriented vendor).

It (probably) costs less, and it uses the faster 802.11.n standard (compared to 802.11g used by the AirPort Extreme card). You will have to install driver software, but that is provided with this adapter and it supports Panther (10.3.9) or later. And you don't have to open up the iMac to install it. If you get a different brand, make sure Mac OS X drivers are available for that product.
The advantage of the AirPort Extreme card is that (once installed internally) nothing appears connected on the outside, and no additional driver is needed.

Airport Extreme Cards for Powerbook Ti

So, why noy make an internal airport extreme card for the Ti Powerbooks? It's not like theyre that old of a model. and if other companys can make em for external use why cant Apple do this?
Hopefully someone at Apple reads this. Ive been an avid supporter of Apple comps and its not like customers such as myself wouldnt actually buy these if they were to release them. Think about it....every titanium power book user would prolly run out and re-buy the already installed cards all over again. Makes sense to me.

It may make sense to you, Wil, but not many people nowadays are investing in hardware enhancements for their three-and-four-year-old Tibooks. And with other manufacturers producing cards that can be installed in a Tibook and moved on to the next laptop without ever opening up the Tibook, and offering (in many cases) far better wireless range than the built-in Airport antenna can offer, Apple would face tough competition for the few customers who might be interested in such a product.

AirPort Extreme Drivers for Windows XP???

This may be a very silly question, but I've got a new Mac Pro that will be arriving in two days and I couldn't help but wonder, "How will the AirPort Extreme WiFi card be able to connect to the Internet when I'm running Windows XP from a separate hard drive using Boot Camp?
The Internet connection in my apartment is wireless only (coming from a router upstairs in my landlord's part of the house). Are there any AirPort Extreme drivers for Windows XP? If so, I have not been able to find anything online.
Any suggestions on how to do this?

However, I don't think that the Macintosh driver CD will do me any good in this case because I am not planning on running the 32 bit version of Windows XP. I will be installing XP64 tomorrow once my CD arrives in the mail.
I've heard of quite a few people who are currently running XP64 on their Mac Pro's, but I'm also pretty sure that the driver CD created by Boot Camp will only work in Windows XP 32-bit.
If ANYONE knows of a work around for installing macintosh drivers for my super drive and airport extreme, PLEASE let me know, because I will most certainly need to be able to use my wireless card and keyboard (especially for the CD tray)

I am thinking about purhasing an Airport Extreme especially for controlling WiFi in my house. To protect/limit internet use of my childeren. Not just a single guest account but perphaps 2 or 3 with different time settings is this possible? To my opinion it would be ideal to control it via the airport because there is no need for software and via an administration account I should be able to modify the settings

Do you perhaps know of any good parenting tool / app that I can install on the Ipad mini of my childeren.
As LaPastenague says, Apple expects you to set restrictions like this on the device itself. You will select a passcode when you establish the settings that you want. Only you will be able to change the settings that you have selected.....unless you provide the passcode to someone else.
On the iPad....
Tap Settings

Tap Restrictions
See Allow, Allowed Content, Privacy, etc.

As far as allowed times, again as LaPastenague notes, Timed Access will allow you to do this for any device that connects using wireless.
For example, you could limit the use of the iPad to the hours of 3 PM to 8 PM Weekdays and 8 AM to 11 PM on Weekends.
Another device could be programmed to use the same "rules", or you could establish different "rules".
At the same time, you could specify "Unlimited" access for your own personal computer, etc.

Airport Extreme Card for Mac Pro (bought in 2006)

In or around 2006 I bought a Mac Pro (it was right when the starting coming with Intel Chips) and didn't upgrade to have it come with a Airport Extreme Card inside. A week later I ordered one, but it wasn't the right one. I have been looking online and found one, the MA688Z/B on amazon.com. I have looked at websites showing how to install this, however, I don't see the place on the motherboard where it goes. Is this the right internal Airport Extreme card for my Mac Pro from 2006 or is there a different one? Also, is the Airport Express that is external better and should I just go that route?

Here's a picture of the 802.11n module installed in a Mac Pro.
It's small and fits near drive bay 2. It's not designed to be fitted by customers, so you cannot buy the card on the Apple Website. Fitting involves plugging in the card. A small brass screw - and two antenna cables, which clip onto the corners.
Unless you have tiny fingers, I'd pay to have it fitted in an Apple Store.
Warning. The Mac Pro is heavy. Do not attempt to carry it to the mall if you have a heart condition or are pregnant.

Airport Extreme worked for 2 days and now wont

3 days ago I wasted $600 on an Airport Extreme, 500Gb external drive, and the family pack of leopard excepting to use time machine with the shared airport disk. I quickly realized that wont work, maybe they'll fix it one day. What really ***** though is that my wireless connection was working perfectly for 2 days and then just died. Last night i boot up my macbook and get the network not found message. I entered my info manually and got it to connect, but it was extremely slow loading my homepage and then the connection simply stopped working. This is happening on both my brand new black macbook with leopard installed, and my fairly new white macbook that is still running tiger. I've reset the airport a few times and still the same results.
Did i get a defective router? I think i can still return it under apple's (supposed) return policy, should i just return it and go back to my reliable linksys g band router?

Yes, following your advice i opened up the iMac and made sure it was well in place. It deem seem a little loose, but, it was still in the socket. After trying this, it still does not pick up the signal.
Any other ideas?
It just seemed to stop working , all of a sudden, !

Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base for home wireless

I've read some of the comparisons between the Airport Express and Airport Extreme Base station to make an informed choice before purchasing. The Airport Express probably will suffice for my needs, plus having AirTunes is a bonus. Mobility is not such a concern (most hotels now offer wireless in any case, making the Express less appealing than when it first came out).
But my only concern with Airport Exress is durability and quality. Some postings on the Apple site note that these can go bad after a year or so. I realize that only those having problems are posting but wondered if there might be some issues with the Express that would make the Extreme Base station a better decision, especially since it's only $30 more now.

Actually it really boils down to your needs.
Either one will work and work well, but if air tunes, and portability is important Express is the way to go. The Extreme is a very good choice as well.

How to allow access to my airport extreme network for more than one wirelss device at the same time

I received a Kobo Vox ereader for Christmas and have not been able to connect to my home wireless network. It works with unsecured networks and I tested it out at an Apple reseller with their airport extreme netwok and it connects fine.
It seems as if I cannot have more than one wireless device connected to my home netork at the same time.
So here is what I did to test this out:
- I powered off the Kobo vox
- I shut down my macbook
- I turned off the modem and unplugged the power cord and removed the cable connection from the modem.
- I also unplugged the airport extreme router.
- I waited for about 15 minutes and then set it all up again and turned on the power to the router and the modem
- I turned on the kobo vox (I left my laptop shut down)
- my kobo vox was able to connected to the internet.
- I powered up my laptop and it couldn't connect to the internet.
So, I went through the above steps again and powered up my laptop first and was able to connect to the internet. I then turned on my Kobo and was not able to connect.
It seems as if I can only have one device connected to my wireless network at one time and that device is the first one to be powered on and connected to the internet.
Am I missing some network or airport extreme settings...

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon
Click the Internet Connection tab
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to read Share a public IP address
Click Update

How do I change one airport extreme device for a new one?

I have an old Airport Extreme (looks like a flying saucer) that my cable modem is connected to. Other Airport Express devices expand the wireless network around my house and Time Capsule is connected to the wireless network.
I want to take advantage of 802.11n so I'm looking to buy the latest model of Extreme to replace the old one. I still want to connect the cable modem to the WAN port of the new Extreme but just wanted to be sure how I can "swap" the two devices and minimise the disruption to my wireless LAN and the devices that connect to it.
I'd be grateful for any help or guidance.

Welcome to the discussions, Cliff!
There is an old saying that goes something like "change one thing on the network and everything else on the network changes".
While it should be relatively straightforward to connect your new AirPort Extreme to the cable modem, you will also be creating a new "main" network and a new "guest" wireless network...assuming you will use the dual-band version of this product.
That means that any current devices that you have now that have been connecting to your old wireless network will all need to be reconfigured again to join the new network, so you are basically starting all over again from scratch with each device.
Since you have configured your old system, you already know that it is not that difficult providing that you follow the configuration instructions carefully. I'm guessing that you have the older b/g versions of the AirPort Express, so perhaps the most tedious process will be to setup the AirPort Extreme and Express devices to participate in a WDS (Wireless Distribution System).
You may need to refer to both the older and newer AirPort Networks guides as the older one includes step by step instructions for configuring the WDS while the newer guide covers the advanced features of the dual band Extreme. Please post back on your progress.

Airport Express or Airport Extreme better for Apple TV

I currently have an Airport Express router (1st gen). Among items used on it are two iPhones, two Macs, and an iPad in addition to Apple TV. Load times for Apple TV are just so-so. Thus far, I've been connecting to my Macbook Air to watch things downloaded from iTunes, as it's much faster to download contact via Macbook. I would prefer faster loading and whatnot and have Comcast Blast internet. Would switching out the Airport Express for an Airport Extreme make a difference in Apple TV performance? I was getting lousy connection speeds (between 3 Mbps and 7 Mbps) when I had the Airport Express in another room. After moving it to the same room as the Apple TV, I get speeds of between 25 Mbps and 33 Mbps. It seems as though the Airport Express just broadcasts a very weak signal through walls and into adjacent rooms. Would the Airport Extreme broadcast a much stronger signal?
Now, the performance of the Apple TV is much better, but still not flawless. For instance, last night, I was trying to watch a TV episode, and it wouldn't load. I got a message saying that iTunes experienced an error. At 9am this morning, it works perfectly. Does iTunes just get overloaded with users at peak times?
