Airport Extreme + HD doesn't work

Hi,
I set-up my brand new AirPort Extreme in my network. The AirPort is cable-linked to a Power Line that is linked to a DSL router to provide Internet access.
The internet works good through the AirPort and I linked it wi-fi to my devices (1 Apple TV, 1 iPad; 1 iPhone and others).
SInce I Have one Seagate 1 TB HD I'd like to use it as a "cloud" to be used with my devices (first of all with my Apple TV). I plug the HD in the AirPort and turned on the possibility to share files.
By the way I can't find the HD from any of the devices and also from my PC.
I downloded AirPort Utilitybut still didn't find how to share the HD with all other devices.
Can you help me?
Thank you
Oby

The Apple TV is an iTunes client or playback device. It can get it source files from either a local network or from the Internet.
To the OP .. exactly as Tesserax has written.. the Apple TV is a streamer .. not a media player.
And the TC is a dumb disk in a router.. it has no media extensions.
An alternative is to use a real media player.. eg WD live TV. these little boxes can play files from just about any source in just about any format. It is a true player.. not just a streamer.. (a modified older Apple TV 1 or 2 running XMBC or PLEX .. http://www.howtogeek.com/106109/how-to-install-alternate-media-players-on-your-a pple-tv-xbmc-plex/
But the Apple TV 3 is less hackable and therefore useless..

My westel modem (that I rent from my phone provider) quit working with the internet.  My airport extreme seems to be working from the dsl (phone) connection through the westel, then through the ethernet cabled to the airport extreme.  Do I need the modem?  Is the ethernet route less efficent that going throught the internet connection?  If I don't need the westel modem; how do I make the dsl conection to the pone port in the wall?  Thanks for help on this!

Ok, so are you saying that your Internet is or isn't working?  Does it work if you plug your computer directly into your computer and bypass the router (make sure you power cycle the modem when you do this)?  If it is working this way, then a new modem isn't going to solve a problem with your Internet not working.  If it is going slow (try running a speedtest) then you need to call your phone company to have them take a look at why your Internet is slow.  If it runs fine this way and then slows back down when you go back through your router there is something else going on.  Try unplugging both the modem and the router, let the modem fully sign back in and connect to the Internet, after it gets signed in, plug your router in, and then after it boots up fully, try running the speedtest again...See if that helps any?  Sometimes it's just an IP conflict that happens when the dynamic IP that is assigned by your Internet Service Provider changes and the change doesn't flow smoothly.

  • HT1218 Airport Extreme base station is working, but not visible on network?

My Airport Extreme base station is working:  all devices are able to connect to the internet, but Airport Utility shows no connection.  Only one computer even shows the device-- greyed out-- saying "Device not Found."  The airport utility shows version 6.2;  OS X version 10.8.3.  How do I update the base station to version 7 if the device can't be found?  And how do the devices connect to the internet without "seeing" the device?

Thanks for checking. This model should be visible in AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion.
If you have not already done so, I suggest that you perform a complete power cycle on the entire network as folllows:
Power off every network device....in any order you want
    Wait a minute or two
Start the modem first, and let it run a few minutes by itself
Start the AirPort Extreme next, the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered back up
Check the network again using AirPort Utility
You can also temporarily connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if a connection is established that way.
If still no luck, try another Mac if you one handy. After that, all that I can suggest is that you perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme and configure it again.

Sorry, but no. The only Apple router with an audio output jack is the AirPort Express.

I recently transferred my internet service to another state.I have not yet moved my imac, just my pc laptop. I cannot get my airport extreme wireless router to work. The green light stays lit when everything is connected but I can't connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

    You're welcome.
Voicemail is left at your carrier's server. That will continue to work unless you report your iPhone as lost or stolen with your carrier.
You may never find it again and you can't if the iPhone remains offline or out of service which means the iPhone is powered off or doesn't have cellular reception.

  • Airport Admin rescan doesn't work?

I have two iMacs (500Mhz/400Mhz), 10.4.3, Airport Admin (4.1.1), Snow ABS.
Every two or three days, I lose connection to the to the ABS(i.e. the w-network I set up). Airport Admin doesn't find it on a Rescan or Other, however I can still create a C2C network. An ABS power-on/off sometimes works, occasionally I have to do a hard reset/reload (yuk!).
I can't seem to find the cause.
What is strange is that the Airport Admin Rescan doesn't work on the 400Mhz iMac, but it does on the 500Mhz and the software is the same?
    Help appreciated!

For the Airport Admin Utility "rescan" function to work, the Mac must have a fully functional connection with the Base Station. Performing a "rescan" should almost never be necessary in the first place, and it will only succeed if the underlying problem (eg a dropped wireless connection) gets fixed spontaneously before you click on the "rescan" button. In all likelihood, the "500MHz iMac" is able to successfully reconnect after a wireless connection failure (thus rescan eventually finds the Airport Base Station) whereas the "400MHz iMac" does not. Another possibility - the 400MHz iMac was never connected to your own Base Station in the first place, and instead was connected to the unprotected wireless network of one of your neighbors.
The real question in all this - why are your Macs losing their connection in the first place? The most common reason - radiofrequency interference from neighboring wireless networks or other devices (like portable phones and microwave ovens) that share use of the same 2.4GHz frequency. Sometimes this can be helped by changing the channel the Base Station transmits on to one that is less subject to interference (channel 1 or 11 are good choices to start with). The channel selection setting is found under the Airport tab of the Airport Admin Utility.

  • Does airport extreme 802.11a/c work with airport express 802.11n

does airport extreme 802.11a/c work with airport express 802.11n

"You can use the AirPort Express to extend the signal provided by the new AirPort, but the Express will not extend "ac" wireless since it does not have that capability. The Express will extend an "n" wireless signal if that helps."
This is what I am trying to understand.
So AXTRM w/ sep SSID for 2.4 (b/g/n) - call it SSID1 - and 5GHz (ac) call it SSID2 - WiFi Explorer confirms AC mode on 5G.
Using an AXPRESS to extend - I have the option of SSID1 b/g/n *and* the 5GHz ac SSID2 in the pulldown (it sees both?) --> if I select SSID1, it also extends this same SSID in 5GHz (both showing b/g/n) >> so I now have 3 signals on SSID1 (XTRM 2.4G, XPRS 2.4G and XPRS 5G) b/g/n and one signal on SSID2 (XTRM 5G AC) ac
    If I select the 5Ghz ac SSID2 to extend - it prompts me "do you also want to extend (the 2.4GHz SSID1)?" --> select yes and I now have 2 signals for SSID (XTRM 2.4G & XPRS 2.4G) b/g/n and 2 signals on SSID2 (XTRM 5G 802.11ac & XPRS 5G 802.11 a//n)
Is the 5G SSID2 actually being extended from the Airport Extreme to the Express?
The reason I bring this up is I am having a lot of issues since iOS8 came out (especially on iPhone 6). Everything I am reading is pointing to when people have 2 AP's set to use the same SSID. When you walk to a part of the house where 5G 802.11 ac signal marginalizes, the phone does not immediately hand over to the 5G 802.11 a/n Airport Express.
My thought was separate the SSID's but to me, if the Express can't extend 5Ghz from the Extreme, it's taking a step backwards. I am better off getting a more powerful router like an ASUS and going with one AP, drop the WiFi roaming altogether
    Any thoughts?

  • Airport extreme, audio won't work on windows 7 boot camp for my macbook pro osx lion

Bought my Macbookpro in late 2011 and osx lion, decided to put boot camp on it, but it won't find my airport exrteme or even if i connect the ethernet cord directly into the laptop it still wont conectto the internet, and my audio also doesn't work, even when i plug in headphones, any suggestions?

Sorry for the late reply, I've searched as much as I could all having similar issues but not quite being the same issue. I've tried manually putting in my airport extreme information, search for other connections, start a new connection, all have not worked. I did everything normally to setup windows except put in the authentication code which i have misplaced.
I might've already added the drivers but im not too sure, how would you add the driver, just in case i missed that part

  • Airport Extreme wireless no longer working. Need help!

Until a couple of days ago, I had my brand new Airport Extreme (ver 7.2.1) connected to a cable modem and everything was ok. My Macbook and my Airport Extreme were going wireless fast and easy.
After moving out of town, I’ve changed internet provider and I had to buy a ethernet modem, thus I bought a NETGEAR ADSL2+ modem (model DM111P) and suddenly I lost my wireless connectivity.
The modem looks working just fine. Infact, if I connect my Macbook to the modem NETGEAR DM111P with an ethernet cable, everything is ok.
Also, if I connect my Airport Extreme to the modem NETGEAR DM111P with an ethernet cable, and than I connect the Macbook to the Airport Extreme with another ethernet cable, everything is still fine: I can surf the web without any problems.
But when I try to go “wireless”, my Macbook is not able to find any base. I tried reseting my Airport Extreme to the factory settings and starting over, but It is impossible to “configure” the airport express wireless, because the Macbook doesn’t see it.
I’ve tried also with a wireless pc, but it was not able to find any wireless device.
I tried reseting my modem NETGEAR DM111P and my Airport Extreme to the factory settings and starting over again and I’m still not able to establish a wireless network. I can only access to the internet via ethernet cable. I’ve also turned off encryption. The computer still didn’t see the network. The IP address looks to be valid: 10.0.1.1.
I don’t know what else to do.
Is the Airport Extreme to be considered out of order and should I obtain warranty service or it is just a matter of settings? If so, what kink of settings?

I have been having a similar problem using 802.11g
with the netgear DM111p it's happy with ethernet but apparently has compatibility issues with AEBS
I found a number of reviews from AEBS users who have effectively given up trying to make this work

  • My Airport Extreme basestation used to work but upon returning from holdidays it no longer allows me to connect wirelessly through it to the internet on my iPhone, iPads, ipod touches  and my apple tv2 cannot access the network either.  Wired still works

When I returned from holidays I could not access the internet wirelessly through my Airport Extreme (5th gen) from my iPhone, iPod touches, ipads and my AppleTV 2 no longer can access the internet or the network either.  I can get access to the internet on my iMac when wired directly into an ethernet port on the Airport Extreme.  I have tried resetting my AirPort and created new networks but still doesn't want to co-operate.  If I get wireless internet it is very, very slow and incosistent.
    Any suggestions?
    Rick

I see now that long questions are not going to be read and answered.  Understandable.  Since writing this I got help on one aspect of question and now have Airport Extreme visible through Airport Utility and it seems to work.   However the wireless printer still does print. On the printer's screen, it recognizes my wireless network and connects. When I try to print from the MacBook, the usual printer icon comes up, but with Printer is Offline.  Printer is Not Connected.  So far, nothing in Apple or Brother help has given me answer to this problem.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • Airport Extreme/Time Capsule not working after downloading 7.6

Downloaded airport 7.6 last night and now time capsule/airport extreme doesn't work.  I can't even reset the tc to factory default settings.  Not sure what to do now.

Hi, today I got the same problem after 7.6 update for my Time Capsule. I tried to downgrade to 7.5.2, but afterwards the problem was not solved. Then I tried to set fixed channnels - and it works! For 2.4 Ghz I used channel 12 and for 5Ghz channel 48. Beforehand I used "automatic" for both. Hope it works for you too. I don't know, how Apple's test team spend the whole day ;-)

  • Internet connection via Airport Extreme/router thats not working, why?

I have been having problems with the internet connection via Airport Extreme which I find it a bit unusual and its still driving me nuts! This is what happened:
I have lost my internet connection last Sunday evening upon my return from a weekend away from home. The last time I have used the internet connection on my macbook was the previous Friday morning. Prior to the apparent disconnection on Sunday, I have always used my internet connection wirelessly through Airport Extreme (that is connected via ethernet cable to the NETGEAR DG834v2 ADSL modem which had worked beautifully until the problem arose on my return). This wireless internet connection allowed me to surf the internet anywhere in my home.
However, upon the successful re-connection to the internet via the modem router, I have discovered several new problems. I have tried to set up the internet connection wirelessly again but instead the following happened:
    1. Router (Netgear) drops ADSL connection and cannot reconnect when connected to airport via Ethernet. (which is the case when using airport wireless).
    2. Router connects to ADSL fine when computer is connected to it via Ethernet. (However, router disconnects when magsafe power adapter is taken out for some inexplicable reason!)
    3. Router connects to ADSL fine when nothing is connected to the router (ie. No Ethernet connections)
    4. Router connects to ADSL fine when connected to airport via Ethernet and computer is connected to airport via Ethernet.
So from the above, I cannot connect to the internet properly whether wirelessly or not so I suspect it could be faulty router or could it be airport extreme? I have asked my ISP for an explanation and all they have said is that it cannot be the mis-configuration but could be to do with the power adaptors or the way plugs are set up and suggested I take out all the power plugs (and power surge protector) out to switch everything off, the macbook, router, printer and airport extreme. However, when I have re-plugged them all back in, the problems I have described above still persists!
Would appreciate any help if anyone here recognises why this is the case and what seems to be the cause of this. If so, what should I do? Though I have written back to my ISP again yesterday for more help so im waiting to hear from them...
    Thanks

  • Help! - I can't get my airport extreme 802.11n to work

    Hi everyone,
So yesterday I purchased and attempted to set up my new 802.11n AirPort Extreme, however I could never seem to get it to establish a connection (even though the ethernet clearly works, as I am typing this message with it now connected directly into my imac). The airport said that it created a network and the light was on a solid green, indicating that it was working properly.
So, in my infinite wisdom I tried to monkey with all of the settings in the AirPort Utility. In the process of doing this, I tried to click the "join a network" instead of "create a new wireless network." Now when I try to find my wireless airport, it can't even locate any AirPort devices
I have tried to "reset" my AirPort Extreme by inserting a pen into the reset button and holding it down, but it does not seem to work. Is there any other way to reset this device back to it's initial factory settings so that I can try to set it up again?
If anyone has any ideas, I could certainly use the help.
    Thanks,
    Sean

Sean, hold in the reset button on the AirPort Extreme until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly. Keep holding another 3-4 seconds when you see this and then release the reset button.
That should allow Airport Utility to "see" the device so that you can reconfigure it.
When you say that the ethernet works, I assume this the connection from your modem. If you have a cable modem, you will need to completely reset it so that it will associate with the AirPort Extreme.
Push the reset button on the cable modem
    Power it off
Pull the battery if it is easily accessible
Leave it off at least 20-25 minutes or longer before you power it back up
This information above assumes that you have a cable modem. If you have a different type of connection, post back on your progress.

  • EMac Airport Extreme card doesn't fit???

I have tried and tried to get the card in the slot and just won't work. I have both an Airport and Airport Extreme card and it's obvious that the Extreme card is the right one. Here's the problem, inside the slot at the back, you can see 2 rows of prongs (male). This card is male as well. I think there is something missing inside my slot? The card just lays in there and you can't get it to reach the back. I think maybe there is a plastic piece that is supposed to be hooked over the prongs? Help?! Thanks!

    Hey Rob,
OK found a 700 here's a pic of the bay:

and with the Old Airport installed:

It took a bit of wiggling and jiggling to get it to go in there. So firmly but not with a lot of force. If it won't go see if there are parts of the metal guides on either side are bent in, preventing it from sliding smoothly in.
