AirPort Extreme Kills TCP/IP Network

Think I should have posted the below to this froum. Not sure how I posted it to the Airport for Windows forum.....and I don't see a way to move it......sorry.....

Here is the list of DHCP Clients:
http://home.earthlink.net/~jeffny0...ExtClients.jpg
(MAC addresses scambled for security)
I am not sure what 192.168.1.193 is ??? The 16 port Asante switch??
Anyone know if there is a way to (easily) add "Client ID" names in XP? I went though my Macs and added names to help ID them in the router, but can't see where to add names in XP?
IP Address: 64.110.135.46
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.128
Router Address: 65.110.135.1
(posting that does not compromise my security??)
I think I need to figure out how to get the HP 4050 to renew its IP address? Then the router should assign an address to it.....I would like it to use the same address it has now so I don't have to recofigure addresses on the computers to print to it......hummm
DHCP Begining Address: 191.168.1.2
DHCP Ending Address: 191.168.1.200
DHCP Lease: 4 (hours)
COUPLE HOURS LATER......
Just tried turning off the HP 4050 and unplugging it from the wall. Then plugging it (power) back in and turning it on, trying to get it to renew its IP address with the AirPort Extreme router.....nothing. Still does not show up in my list of DHCP Clients.
Tried Restarting the router.....now I see no clients at all in my list of DHCP Client list..... grrrrrr
Can anyone tell me why AirPort Extreme is not seeing the HP 4050 as a DHCP client?

  • USB External HD Connected to Airport Extreme - access from outside network?

    Hi,
Is there any type of software that I can get that would allow me to access my shared external hard drive w/ my airport extreme from outside the network, like some type of ftp server or anything that would allow me to access it from outside my home?

A simple way would be to share it via Apple File Sharing and FTP...
You'll need a static Ip and a hostname, although it is easy to set up if you have a dynamic Ip too...
Creat a free hostname on "www.dyndns.com" (for example), open your AFP and FTP ports on your router, and then use sotware such as "Rumpus" for the FTP service and tell it what drive you want to share (it can be a network drive). For AFP, all you have to do is connect to the server from the finder, hitting "Go...Connect to Server.."
I've got my extreme drive shared globally and it works fine...just need some time and patience to set up the ports and hostnames...
If you need help on the setup just email me... [email protected] and i'll be happy to answer any questions...

  • Resetting Airport Extreme disabled my home network. Now when i attempt to get to internet with iPad, or iPhone, I see an Earthlink (ISP) window with message: The internet connection is currently in use by another computer (nun.nn.n.nn)

Resetting Airport Extreme disabled my home network. Now when i attempt to get to internet with iPad, or iPhone, I see an Earthlink (ISP) window with message: The internet connection is currently in use by another computer (nun.nn.n.nn) Enter your DSL Account logon psassword to switch the internet connection to this computer. If I do that, other messages follow. I am usually able to switch connection, but can have only one device on internet at a time. Tried to correct problem using Airport Utility, but failed.

Unfortunately, there is mass confusion about whether a device might be a modem or a modem/router since the terms are mixed up all the time. Even though a device might have only one Ethernet port, it can still be a router.
    If this is your "modem".......
    http://reviews.cnet.com/routers/netopia-cayman-3341-router/4507-3319_7-30484785. html
It is not a modem.....it is a modem/router. If that is the case, then the AirPort Extreme is not the only router on your network....it is one of two routers, and it should be configured to operate in Bridge Mode.
Does this device appear to be your "modem"?

  • Can AirPort Extreme join a wireless network and share the connection to ethernet connected devices?

Can AirPort Extreme join a wireless network and share the connection to ethernet connected devices?

Yes, if the AirPort Extreme is joining a wireless network that has been created by another Apple router. In this case, it will be extending the wireless network and the Ethernet ports are enabled on the "remote" AirPort Extreme.
No, if the AirPort Extreme will be used with another router from another manfacturer.
Ironically, the less expensive AirPort Express can do what you ask about with virtually any wireless network using a special feature called ProxySTA. It won't extend the wireless with a non-Apple router, but the Ethernet port will be enabled.

Just spoke with Cisco about the router.  They said the router is compatible with the E1500.  They suggested that I contact Apple to see if their default IP address was that same as the router (192.168.1.1).  They told me I would have to change it if that was the case.  How would I do that?

  • Airport Extreme Killed My Airport Express Network!!!

I have been an apple user since 1992 - NEVER HAVE I FELT SO FRUSTRATED!!!! Sorry to shout, but this is as bad as it gets - my kids are screaming at me and my wife laughing!! I have had a reasonably good Airport Express network running in my house with an Express as the primary and internet connected to it by the ethernet port. I worked fine for my Intel iMac and my daughters Intel MacBook, but my son had problems in his room. We then got an xbox 360 and wanted to connect that so I upgraded to an Airport Extreme - Disaster!. Firstly the net went intermittant! Then I rebuilt from scratch restting all devices to factory defaults; worse and worse, the network kept failing to find various base stations. Finally I cut the Extreme out of the loop and tried to rebuild the original network; now Airport utility won't see any base station after I configue it!! Please help if you can!!!

If nothing works, try a factory reset: disconnect the Extreme from power, press the reset button, plug in power while still pressing the reset button, release reset button after 5 seconds or so.
This method usually helps me with problems with my Airport Extreme and Express (this happens seldom by the way). The only disadvantage is that you have to set it up again completely.

  • Airport Extreme and TCP/IP Printer

I have a tcp/ip printer used by PCs and Macs in a satellite office. We need iPad's and iPhones to be able to print to it as well...
It is NOT an airport or apple ready printer. It is an older high-capacity Minolta. I print from Mac's using the generic pcl driver.
I am looking at the xPrinterServer from LanTronix but was curious of the Airport Extreme will work for this or does it only support printers that are already Apple ready?
    Network configuration:
    Wireless Router/Switch
      |
      |
      |
      |
    Printer
Basically, I would be adding the airport as a bridge device/same LAN - as the current router/switch.
Based on what I read, it does not seem to support non-airport ready printers.
    Thanks.

Thanks.. I chatted with apple about it. I suppose, being more specific, I meant an AirPrint printer...
I am going to try to Lantronix device, which is supposed to allow you to print to non-airprint printers with IOS devices.

  • Firmware update 7.4.2 for Airport Extreme not good for networked HD LaCie

I updated yesterday my Airport Extreme first generation to 7.4.2 and I started getting issues with my network HD drive LaCie 500GB connected to the AE via USB port.
It works, but suddenly gets disconnected and unmounted, creating issues for time machine and all the applications which are storing info on the networked HD.
Further more, if I open the Airport Utility, the information about the AE won't load untill I completely shut down or disconnect (plug out the USB cable) the LaCie HD.
Only way to get the HD back online and visible is to shut it down and restart it. Quite annoying. I have NO ISSUE now that I downgraded back to the previous 7.4.1 firmware.
Anybody has same issue? I am using the AE in N mode 5 Ghz. Right now I am not upgrading to 7.4.2.

I had the same problem with wireless TM backups loosing their connection to an AEBS-N running 7.4.2 with a 1.4TB Seagate FreeAgent airdisk. Restarting the cable modem and AEBS did not work. Reinstalling 10.5.7 did not work.
What did work was reverting to firmware 7.4.1 on the AEBS-N.
Here is the TM Buddy log before with 7.4.2 which shows the reoccurring TM backup failure 19 and the disconnect -36:

  • How to Set Up AirPort Extreme 802.11n only Network

I purchased a used AirPort Extreme base station and a used AirPort Express off eBay to upgrade my home network. Both are the latest model AE (dual band II, firmware 7.5.1) and AX (802.11n, firmware 7.4.2). I want to use my AE as main router (Internet connection, DHCP) and use my AX to wirelessly extend network to my family room, where I have my Xbox accepting only wired network. And I want AE and AX to communicate through 802.11n to maximize bandwidth. Sounds easy right?
Well, I've got this set up mostly working except the 802.11n part. Not matter what I do, It seems only operating in g mode. I made my AE creating a 5Ghz network but I couldn't find this network anywhere. Not on my iPad, not on my iMac.
I'm wondering if I have a defective AE. The seller on eBay told me he used the 11n network just fine. The router is still under warranty, I'm wondering if I should ask Apple for a repair? But since I'm pretty new to Mac in general, I figure there might be something I just missed and hence this post. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Some screenshots of my configuration: http://picasaweb.google.com/xianxu/IPad

I do have an AX that extends the AE network. There is nowhere on AX that I can specify radio mode, once I specified it to extend a network. I assume AX talks to AE over the n network and then extends the network to be g compatible? Sounds really strange.
Maybe not too strange. Since the AX is a single-band device, it can only extend the AEBSn's 2.4 or 5 GH radio, at a time, not both simultaneously. Since your iPhone was able to connect, most likely, it was extending the 2.4 GHz radio ... which was also configured to support "g" devices. What I haven't figured out is how, if you set the AEBSn's Radio Mode to "n only" why non-"n" are still able to connect when the network is extended.
... I chose to create a different network name for 5Ghz radio as something like: MID-EARTH (5 GHz). However I can't seem to find this network anywhere. I'm wondering why this is the case? Is my AE somewhat defective?
This may be a completely different issue than the extended network one. If you remove the AX from the network equation, wireless clients should see two different Network Names or SSIDs ... one being "MID-EARTH (5 GHz)" and whatever you called the 2.4 GHz network. That is, assuming that the client is capable of accessing both bands. If this is not the case, we would need to revisit your AEBSn's configuration settings.

  • Airport Extreme + Time Capsule Roaming Network

Ok, I'm completely lost here and haven't found any solutions specific to my situation. I currently have two ethernet jacks in my condo, both have fiber optic internet connection which provide access when connected to a computer and no router. I'm assuming there is a router somewhere in the building but alas it's not in my unit.
My home office is in the den where I have one ethernet jack. Connected to the jack is my airport extreme (dual band, 7.5.1 software). The second jack is located in the living room where I have my Time Capsule connected. I have it set this way because the wireless signal from the den does not extend well into the living room.
Basically I have two jacks, a TC and an AE and I'd like to create a roaming network. Both of them are set to bridge mode with the same SSID, WPA2 security, same password, etc. When I open airport utility on my main computer I can see both the AE and TC which is good because I have files I need to access for work on the TC. The problem I have is some of the wireless devices will not get an internet connection but instead get the self assigned IP address. My iPhone and iPad work all the time as well as the xbox and PS3 that are hardwired into the TC. Macbook laptop only connects about 1 out of every 4 times and other guests with iPhones have been getting the self assigned IP too. It's confusing because sometimes the devices connect flawlessly and sometimes they don't.
Sorry for the long-winded post but this situation has been very irritating for a couple months so I thought I'd finally seek answers here. I guess my basic question is what is the proper setup for an AE and a TC roaming network using two different ethernet jacks with no modem in my unit?

Welcome to the discussion area, Junkcanoe!
I don't have a setup like yours, but might be able to offer some assistance.
Basically I have two jacks, a TC and an AE and I'd like to create a roaming network. Both of them are set to bridge mode with the same SSID, WPA2 security, same password, etc.
This would be the normal way to set up a roaming network, but the wild card here is that we don't know anything about how the main router that supplies the ethernet connections (valid IP addresses) to the condos might be configured.
For example, most apartments, hotels, etc that provide ethernet jacks usually limit the number of devices that can connect to each jack. Hotels tend to limit this to one or two devices. I counted six devices that you say will work properly plus a few more. Since you have two separate ethernet jacks, you may be looking at a situation where each jack is allocated a total of 4 devices, or valid IP addresses.
The bottom line here is that we won't be able to make much progress until we know more how the main router there has been configured. Is it possible for you to ask the complex manager (who will probably need to ask the IT guy) how many devices are allowed to connect per ethernet jack? Another way to ask the same question is how may valid IP addresses will each ethernet jack allow?
If you can, could I ask you to perform an experiment? Rather than have both the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule each connect to a separate ethernet jack, can you temporarily move one device near the other and connect them together using an ethernet cable? (Or, use a long ethernet cable if you don't want to move either device) LAN <-> port on one to LAN <-> port on the other. In other words, you'll only be using one of the ethernet ports in the condo for this experiment.
Any difference in performance or number of devices allowed to connect?

  • When attempting to print with HP P2015 cabled to AirPort Extreme, error message is "Network host (name) is busy".  What's happening?

When attempting to print with an HP P2015 cabled to an AirPort Extreme, the network won't connect to printer.  The Print Que message is "Network host (name) is busy; will retry in (number) seconds."  When I delete the file to be printed, the Print Queue screen says "Printer Ready".
    More Information:
The printer's Queue Name is Hewlett-Packard HP LaserJet P2015 Series
The Location is "(my name) AirPort Extreme"
URL is "Hewlett_Packard%20%HP%20LaserJet%20P2015%20Series._pdl-datastream._tcp.local./ ?bidi" (for whatever that means)
    Driver Version is 18.4
Printer Software is HP LaserJet P2015 Series
The printer is listed as a printer on System Preferences/Print&Fax screen
If I connect the printer cable directly to the iMac, the printer works fine.
Any helpful directions would be greatly appreciated.

I came across an Apple article last modified 6/2/08 (Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule).  It suggested the old standby, i.e., disconnect the AirPort Extreme Base Station from its power source, turn off the printer, turn on the printer, and reconnect the AirPort to its power source.  It worked.  I guess disconnecting the AirPort cleared out the network host.  Yea.

  • Mac Mini Airport Extreme - Cannot Detect Any Networks

    Hello,
Last week my Mac Mini (Power PC)'s hard disk crashed. So I did a DIY replacement. I managed to re-install all the software, and installed all the latest updates.
However, for some reason, the Airport Extreme is not detecting any wireless network after the re-install.
My own wireless network router is a third-party, which has been working well for the last 2 years. My Window PC and laptop still connects to it fine.
I can see the Airport icon but it doesn't how any detected networks (and there are quite a few in my neighbourhood). I did Apple Hardware Test and it shows the Airport card to be working ok.
    Any help would be wonderful!

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I saw the thread before I posted and I'm hoping this will be solved soon.
The main thing that worries me is that in my case, the Mac Mini is not even seeing any networks - zero in an apartment block where there is at least 5 network on the air at any time

  • Adding AirPort Extreme for a separated network?

    Hi,
I'm trying to get a network setup in a small office, but the details have me swimming in the deep end with various issues (DCHP, subnet masks, etc.).
    Objective:
Configure two separate networks that don't see each other and both provide WiFi, but share the same internet connection.
    Setup:
    Phone Line>
    BEC (5200?) DSL Modem/Wifi Router (w/ 4 Cat5 ports)>
    AirPort Extreme (7.7.3)
    Dream:
Connect to the printer from both networks. The printer is currently hard-wired into one of the BEC ports.
Many thanks for any help (or clarifying questions).
    Z

OK, thanks.  The AirPort routers use the 10.0.1.x range, so there will not be any chance of an IP address conflict between the two routers on your network.
Open up AirPort Utility again, click on Edit in the smaller window that appears, then click the Network tab at the too of the window
Change the setting for Router Mode from "Off" (Bridge Mode) to DHCP and NAT
You may see a message about Setup over the WAN port on the AirPort, just click to ignore that, then click Update at the lower right of the window and give the AirPort a full minute to restart.
The following step is optional, but recommended if you can do it
Power off the AirPort by pulling the power cord and also power down the BEC modem/router
Wait a minute, then start the BEC modem/router and let it run a minute or two
Then, start the AirPort and let it run a minute
At this point, the AirPort will display a slow, blinking amber light.
Go ahead and test a few devices to make sure that they can now connect to the AirPort wireless and get a good Internet connection. Also check to see that they cannot "see" any of the devices on your 192.168 network and vice versa.
Post back on your progress, please.

  • Windows XP laptop can't connect to Airport Extreme used to extend network.

Have a time capsule for main wireless. PC works fine connecting to it. Have added Airport Extreme to extend network. The mac sees it fine and the PC can connect to it via airport utility but won't connect as wireless and the internet. Running WPA2. Have the latest firmware in each. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for clarifying. If you don't mind, let's double-check your extended-network setup configuration:
o Open AirPort Utility and select the Time Capsule (TC), and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then, click Wireless.
o Verify that both “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu and “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox are selected.
o Next, select the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), and then, choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu.
o Verify that “Extend a wireless network” has been selected from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu. Also verify that the correct Network Name is shown for the network you want the AEBSn to extend.
    Do your settings match these?
