Airport extreme loses connection with cellphone wifi

My Sister has a AirPort Extreme MD031LL/A that was bought 4 monthes ago. It has always worked very well. She lives way out of town and can only get Sattelite Internet service, it has always worked great also. 2 weeks ago her Sattelite Internet Provider was bought out and upgraded to an even faster speed. Her iPad has no problems since the change, but her T-Mobile HTC One S that had always worked perfectly on WiFi calling,  (because where she lives, it is all she can get for calls from her home)  only works at times. The phone states it is connected to her home WiFi system, but says it has certificate problems and or it will be connected and she can use her phone to make calls and recieve text, it comes and goes and her signal is great. T-Mobile says it is not on their end and that it is a problem of the phone and her AirPort Extreme communicating with each other. Any help is appreciated.

ok, so I think I've solved the problem. It only took 4 calls to AT&T tech support to figure it out. The reason I was able to use DHCP with a DSL modem is because (and here's the thing they kept forgetting to tell me) the modem is also a router. I know, not really, but it acts like one for all intents and purposes. It keeps the PPPoE in the modem, and works just great if you have ONLY ONE COMPUTER HOOKED UP TO IT. What I had to do was go into the modem settings and make the modem a bridge, basically making the modem what it really is, just a modem. Then I set up my AE as a PPPoE and I have been connected ever since. It also cleared up the NAT problem I was having with my Xbox 360. Anyway, I hope this helps some of the people out there.

  • Will a WD hard drive work with AirPort Extreme to connect with an iPad Air

Will a WD hard drive work with Airport Extreme to connect by a iPad Air

If you already have an AE and a WD drive .. the best idea is plug it in and see on a mac in airport utility is the drive recognised.
If not you have problems.. if it is formatted correctly (Not NTFS mainly) then it can be a drive that is not compatible.
assuming it works get your ipad and pay for filebrowser or at least download a test copy and see how it goes.
Always the best way to find out.. try it.

  • New Airport Extreme only connected with N protocol

I just got a brand new Airport Extreme. I disabled wifi on my verizon fios router, plugged in the ethernet, and went through the Airport's setup. I'm connected on all my devices and the range is so much better, but it doesn't seem like my MBP has connected using AC. Below, I have included some information about my computer and the router. Could anyone advise me on how to connect using AC? Do I need to do anything other than the default setup? I noticed in advanced options on the router, that 5ghz is not enabled by default? Also, I'm sitting about 10 feet from the router with no obstructions.
    My Computer:
Model Name: MacBook Pro, Late 2013
      Processor Name: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
    My Airport Extreme:
Card Type: AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0x134)
    Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (6.30.223.154.65)
    Locale: FCC
      Country Code: US
      Supported PHY Modes: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac
    My Network:
Network Utility Link Speed: 217 MBit/sec
    PHY Mode: 802.11n
      Channel: 1
      Country Code: US
      Network Type: Infrastructure
      Security: WPA2 Personal
      Signal / Noise: -41 dBm / -92 dBm
      Transmit Rate: 156
      MCS Index: 21

5ghz wireless is in fact working.. but the Mac is setup to connect to the strongest signal not the fastest.. so you have actually connected to 2.4ghz N wireless..
The way to fix this is simple.. change the wireless name for 5ghz in wireless options of airport utility.. ie.
Make the name short and sweet.. no spaces.. no apostrophe.. just simple.
Mine doesn't show as much because I refuse to buy the AC model..
But you can make sure your country is set correctly.. and all the rest can be left on auto.
Then in the laptop force the connection to AE5ghz or whatever you name it.

  • Airport  Extreme loses connection to USB disk

Recently I upgraded my Airport extreme to 7.4.2 software. Since that time AE I keep losing connection to the disk when copying large files or after browsing on it for a while.
The drive is simply gone (no share advertised)
The only way to get it accessible again is by resetting the AE (soft reset via airport utility)
Is there a way to revert to the previous software (there appears to be no newer SW or fix at the moment)?
    My config is as follows:
Airport Extreme 802.1n operating a 5GHz wireless N network, 1TB Seagate (Seagate FreeAgent 102D) external USB drive attached to it (formatted with MAC filesystem)
on the ethernet port is a linksys router acting as a Wireless G Accesspoint (for my wife's Windows laptop)

I've been having exactly the same problem. The Macs on my LAN will all continue to have Internet access. On any of them, the base station still shows up in a Finder window under "shared"... but if I click on it, it will think for a moment and then say "Connection Failed" where it normally says "Connected As: USER NAME". And then none of my computers can access the shared volumes until I reboot the router.
I'm having exactly this same problem.
Not sure where the problem comes from, but here is my environment:
Airport Express (older model) Version 6.3 as WDS remote
Airport Extreme (version 7.4.2) as WDS base station
    Powerbook G4 (1.33 Ghz)
    PowerMac G4 (Mirror Drive Door)
    iTunes 9.0
I've had problems with my Hard Disk access from the Airport Extreme. I have Time Machine running automatically from two different machines to the same plugged in HD on the Airport Extreme. I get messages indicating that the backup can't be mounted. Once that occurs, I have to reboot the Airport.
Just like Toryn says, once you get Connection Failed, you must reboot the router.

  • Airport extreme - erratic connection, particularly iOS wifi syncing

My Airport Extreme (most recent model) appears to have erractic wifi connections.
I originally thought it was just borderline signals as the Apple TV is quite far, and the MacBook Pro (2009) moves around the house.
But with the introduction of wifi syncing for iOS I'm finding devices dropping off and becoming visible again even a few few from the Airport Extreme. It seems to happen with all devices simulataneously.
At least most of the time I still appear to have a wifi connection from the devices, but iTunes and iDevice can't see each otehr
The new Airport utility has also been unable to locate the Airport extreme, even though my iPhone reported that it had a wifi connection.
I also believe I'm losing the wifi connection periodically as I've seen my iPhone report 3G data usage during the middle of the night (sometimes 10's of MB while streaming Pandora).
I reset the Airport Extreme this morning and all devices became immediately visible in iTunes and started syncing. It also became visible in Airport Utility
I haven't seen any problems with the Mac Pro connected via ethernet.
    Devices
    Airport Extreme
    Mac Pro (ethernet)
    rest wireless
    Apple TV (1st gen)
    MacBook Pro (2009)
    iPhone 3GS
    iPhone 4
    iPhone 4s
    iPod touch (2nd gen)
occasional work machine (Dell runing XP)

I found the problem ! Just changing the channels solved the problem. (not related to upgrade but to more and more wireless networks in the street.). So if you have the problem try to change the channels of the 2,4 network (see help of airport extreme - interferences with other networks)

  • Airport Extreme loses connection on applying security

I have just bought an Airport Extreme as my first step on my transition from PC to Mac but it's making me think twice!
I can connect to the AEx when i don't apply any security or devices. then as soon as i try to upgrade the security to WEP or WPA or any security combination my PC loses the connection with the error message "Airport utility was unable to find your base station after restarting".
I've tried everything I can think of including tens of Hard Resets trying different combinations of settings to no avail. Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem, I've tried to configure with WPA and password, and the PC just won't recognize a valid connection, won't connect to the internet.
I have a perfect connection without security. Can someone help with configuration? My MacBook Pro recognized the network and can sign in without a problem. I just can't seem to get the PC to sign into the network.

  • What needs to be done to avoid WIFI drop-offs with Apple AirPort Extreme Base station with Extended Wifi

    Hi there,
can anybody please advise me what needs to be done to avoid WIFI drop-offs every half an hour or 1 hours.
I use voip phoe calls a lot using my WIFI, However my AirPort WIFI connection drops-off while I am in the middle of WIFI VOIP calls.  This is causing significant disturbance in my family.
    Please assist.
In details, I have extended my WIFI range using 2 Apple Airport Extreme Base Station.
Main Base is - A1408 9 (5th Gen),  and I have extended my WIFI in my L shape house by connecting another Apple AiPort A1354 ( 4th Gen) with AA1408.
    Note1:
    > when I am close to A1408 my iPhone4 connected with A1408 automatically
    > When I am close ot A1354 , my iPhone4 connected with A1354 automatically.
Note2: these drop-offs never occurred when I had only 1 Apple AirPort Extreme Base station WIFI
I think, this Auto switching causing the slight drop outs in my Wifi when I am on the VOIP call.
Do you think that something is going wrong with my Apple AirPort Wifi extended?
    Much appreciated

To help eliminate drop-offs you need to ensure that your extended network is operating at its peak bandwidth performance. Base station placement is critical in an extended network. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details.

  • Airport Extreme dropping connection with a Cisco 5 port Giga switch

I've connected a Cisco 5 port Giga switch SG100D-05 to one of the LAN ports of the Airport Extreme and for some reason the connection is being dropped or it fails to connect. Any idea of why this is happening and how can it be fixed?

If you have not already done so, you might want to do some basic troubleshooting to try to isolate the cause of the issue.
To do that, temporarily disconnect the switch and power it off. Connect a computer with an Ethernet port on it to the LAN port on AirPort Extreme and turn off the wireless on the computer.
Test to see you can get a good Internet connection this way.
If you can, then you know that the LAN port on the AirPort Extreme is functioning correctly and your troubleshooting efforts will need to focus on testing each port on the Cisco switch.
If you cannot get a good connection with the computer connected directly to the AirPort Extreme, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working to eliminate the possibility of a bad Ethernet cable, which is the culprit more often than you might think.
Please post back on the results of your testing.

  • Airport Extreme loses connection repeatedly

Not sure if I have a faulty unit or not -
We bought a brand new AE at Best Buy in January, to replace a Cisco router that lost connection about once a week. Now I have a router that loses the connection about 3-4 times a day.
    Here's the set-up -
cable from wall into modem, modem hardwired to AE.
AE is hardwired (ethernet) to desktop (PC)
AE supports about 10-15 other wireless devices in the house (Macs & others)
3-4 times a day the entire network goes down, including the hardwired desktop.
Green light stays on all the time, even when the network is gone.
Unplugging the rebooting the AE restores the network in a matter of minutes, so I know it's the AE and not the modem or cable signal.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • My new airport extrem wont connect with my time warner cable modem

My new aiport extrem wontconnect tomy time warner cable modem

Have you power cycled the modem for long enough to deregister the previous client/router MAC address.. it can take 20min or longer off time. If the cable modem is also a router then the AE has to be in bridge mode.
Sometimes there are connection issues.. modem to WAN port of the AE..
Exactly what modem do you have?
Are the connectivity lights on when you plug in ethernet?

  • Airport Extreme loses guest account

    Hello everyone.
I must be missing something here, I know it has to be easier than this.
I just received my AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) and AirPort Express. Both brand new, both updated to latest firmware. I configured the AEBS as a new wireless network, created a new SSID, WPA2 personal password and set the AirPort Express to join the network that I created on the AEBS. My problem is, for some reason, the guest network that I created during the configuration of the AEBS is gone. I have reset the AEBS three times, created everything again, and it does the same thing. It loses the guest network each time.
My AEBS is connected to my ISP's DSL modem, the DSL modem handles the DSL account user name and password.
Am I missing something, does the AEBS lose the guest account when an AirPort Express is involved or something? I know I have to be missing something, I just don't know what or where.
    Thanks for all your help.

Zyxel's info specifies that this a  ADSL2+ Router. See link below.
This type of device, which combines a modem and router on the same chassis is also known as a gateway.
That being the case, you would have to configure the AirPort Extreme to connect with this device using Bridge Mode.  Otherwise, you would be breaking networking rules by having two routers both working on the same network.
    http://us3.zyxel.com/Products/details.aspx?PC1IndexFlag=420060623092947&Category GroupNo=C8A3A230-907F-4CA8-9C3B-3A84F5A06405
When you configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode, you must also power cycle the entire network.
That means powering everything down...order is not important.
Wait a few minutes and start the Zyxel device first and let it run a few minutes by itself
Then start the AirPort Extreme the same way
Then start each other device one at a time about a minute apart
If you really need the Guest Network feature, you might want to check with Zyxel support to see if the ADSL 2+ Router could possibly be configured as a simple "bridge mode" modem.
Or, your ISP may have a simple modem that they offer. You would want to make sure that this is not a gateway device or router....only a simple modem.

  • Airport Extreme intermittently loses connection with Internet?

I have an Airport Extreme connected to a router that is connected to our cable modem. Internet connection is fine, but the Airport Extreme will intermittently lose connection with the Internet and shows a solid amber light. Turning the Airport Extreme off and then on again will resolve the issue, however, this happens about once per week (at different days/times) and would like to ensure a consistent connection even when I'm not at home. (We are thinking of installing a lighting control system that depends upon a consistent wireless connection to work properly, even when we aren't home to restart the Airport Extreme). Please advise on what the trouble might be and how we can get a permanent resolution to the issue.

Is your Extreme an 802.11g (domed-shape) or 802.11n (squarish) model? Do you have the Extreme connected to the other router by Ethernet? Finally, is the Extreme configured as a bridge, i.e., Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)?

  • I have an Airport Extreme, 2 laptops with windows 7 and a wireless HP printer.  I can connect the laptops to the printer.  Any advise?

I have an Airport Extreme, 2 laptops with windows 7 and a wireless HP printer.  I am not able to connect the laptops to the printer.  Any advise?

The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
    Read up the issue.
    http://stevejenkins.com/blog/2010/01/using-the-local-default-gateway-with-a-wind ows-vpn-connection/
    Cisco vpn client..
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/239113
I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan.

Hi..I have an AirPort Extreme base connected to my DSL Modem and has been working fine. But I recently bought another DSL modem along with the latest Airport Express. With this one however I can't get it to connect to the Internet. The light on the Express is flashing green though. Does it mean I have to re-set the settings on Airport Utility? I.e. the old settings haven't been cleared yet. Any suggestions?

Let's see if I can get this straight.
You have an Airport Extreme base station that is set to "Create a wireless network" and you have the box checked for "allow this network to be extended"....
Then you have an Airport Express that is set to "Extend a wireless network" which you selected the name of your network in the box...
    Correct?
    See this Apple document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4259?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The wireless unit on the right of the diagram can be either of the newer Apple base stations.
    Extreme, Express, Time Capsule

    Hello,
Since the last update 10.6.8, my MacBookPro mid 2010 randomly loses the connection with my wifi AppleTV2 2. It works well with the connection between myPC and filiaire AppleTV2 els and between my iPhone 2 (3G and 4) and AppleTV2 butpoorly between the MacBookPro and AppleTV2.
Then I must quit and restart iTunes every time to continue to read my films. I repairedmy permissions, I restore my 2 AppleTV2 but that do nothing. I concluded that it is a loss of wireless connection. I do not know exactly what to do ...
    If anyone can help

Thanks you rbrian, it seems that your solution is good because after some tests it works very well
