Airport Extreme meets sony PSP

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone is having the same problem as me.
I trying to set my PSP to the wireless network, I have the latest updates on both devices and run through the normal setup on the PSP, Scan>Enter WPA>setup>Test Connection. Yet it fails every time.
I using a WPA-PSK(TKIP) security, if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated
the strange thing is it's worked in the past,

I using a WPA-PSK(TKIP) security, if anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated
"WPA-PSK(TKIP)" would be equivalent to either WPA Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal on the AirPorts. In the same light, "WPA-PSK(AES)" would be equivalent to WPA2 Personal on the AirPorts.

  • AP Extreme w/ Sony PSP

I was wondering if anyone has tried to use the Sony PSP with the AP Extreme? The PSP is picking up and reading my connection, but it wont actually connect to the internet. The Sony people said that my router must be 802.11B mode compatable??? HELP!!!

Try assigning your PSP the following IP address:
    IP Address: 10.0.1.201
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router (Gateway): 10.0.1.1
    DNS: 10.0.1.1
Try to connect. If that doesn't work, try putting the PSP with that address up as a Default Host in the AirPort Admin Utility.

  • Problem Connecting Airport Extreme to Sony BluRay Player

I have a sony blu ray player (s370). I just purchased an Apple Airport Extreme. I live in an apartment complex where my internet is provided in my rent. As a result, I do not have my own modem..just a port in the wall. To get the airport express to work I connected it to this port with ethernet cable...and set the airport extreme to bridge mode. If i didn't set it like this the amber light just kept blinking. As it is, I am able to connect my computer to the airport extreme (either wirelessly OR with ethernet cable).
When I try connecting the blu ray player with an ethernet cable, I run into a problem. I tell the blu ray player to "automatically" set up the IP address of the unit. I click save and connect.. Then a message says that the internet settings is now complete.. and the unit has successfully connected to the internet. I click OK, then go to Network Connection Diagnostics.. I tell it to perform network diagnostics, and it says that "Network connections are correct".
When I actually try clicking on "internet video", however, it gives me an error that says "connection status cannot be confirmed .. the service cannot be accessed at this time because the server replied with incorrect or information."
    Any suggestions?

You cannot do it.. the extreme is designed for ethernet connection.
You can buy a wireless bridge.. an apple airport express is able to do this..
Set it up as bridge to the building wireless.. then plug the ethernet into the Extreme..
If the building uses a login webpage.. then the above might not be possible.. it does need a login via standard password.
The ultimate goal is to use the Airport to wirelessly print from my Lenovo to a Canon printer (which had been working at my previous house.)
I think you will find it much easier to plug the printer into the Lenovo and print from USB or ethernet.. forget using wireless as even if the above setup works as well as possible it is still compromised in needing to double NAT the network.

  • Airport Extreme with Sony S-Air

    Hi Folks
I have an Airport Extreme (802.11n) and a Sony Home Cinema system with S-Air (to provide wireless connection to the speakers). Unfortunately, when I both devices are running, the Sony seems to adversely affect the Airport. As a result, internet access is constantly fluctuating between normal service and 1 mbps! I have now disabled the S-Air card and the Airport is working as expected.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could get both devices working without affecting each other?
    Thanks
    Stu

    OK, thanks for the info.
Download iStumbler, www.istumbler.net to get a look at what channels your wireless and the Sony wireless are using. Make sure the wireless for both systems is on and open the application. You should see the names of your wireless, the Sony wireless and other wireless networks in close vicinity.
Since you noted that there is some interaction between your wireless and the Sony wireless, check to see what channels they are operating on. Ideally, you would want them to be as far apart as possible. You can change the channel on your wireless by opening AirPort Utility, clicking on Manual Setup and then clicking on the Wireless tab just below the row of icons at the top of the pane.
Give that a try to see if that will help and please post back on your findings.
    A few thoughts:
If you know what type of wireless the Sony uses ("g", "n"), you may be able to set your computers wireless up sep

  • AIRPORT EXTREME - my Sony Vaio can't see it!

I have just set up a new Airport Extreme using my Mac Powerbook - no problems. However my wife's Sony Vaio (Model PCG-8QEL, 17" desktop replacement) cannot even SEE the base station, let alone connect to the wireless network.
Her computer works fine with the Airport Express (as opposed to Extreme), and I can't figure out what the problem is.
All settings match - ie 802.11b and g compatible.
Does anyone have any ideas...... please help!!!

    lythaby, you are a genius!
Got 7.1 installed on the AEBS... initially I had the same problem of the DSL line dying the second the Vaio connected... but after a while it was green lights all the way, and I have crystal-clear reception on both computers.
What was the difference in having 7.1 as opposed to 7.1.1? And does this mean that I won't be able to upgrade the software on the AEBS from now on??
Many thanks for your help... forever in your debt!

  • Airport Extreme - Wifi BS with WD My Book as NAS

    Hello.
I'm a recent buyer of an Apple Airport Extreme, which I will use to replace my current router.
My Airport Extreme has firmware 7.52 and Airport Utility which is used in a laptop is v5.5.2. All updated here!
FYI, the network infrastructure is the following:
Modem: Sagem connected to phone line (ADSL)
Router: Airport Extreme connected via WAN to the Sagem Modem
HDD: WD My Book 1TB (FAT32) connected via USB to Airport Extreme
Media Player: WDTV Live connected via Wifi to Airport Extreme (with 1 Wifi dongle via USB)
    2 laptops (1 Windows 7 SP1 + 1 Windows XP SP3), connected via Wifi to Airport Extreme
Wii and PSP connected via Wifi to Airport Extreme
Router: ASUS WL-500GP V2 connected via Wifi to Airport Extreme (as a repeater)
Printer: HP PSC1310 connected via USB to ASUS WL-500GP V2
1 fixed PC connected via Ethernet to ASUS WL-500GP V2
There are 2 things here which are not yet 100%... It's about the first one I need help, as for the second one I haven't invested time on it yet.
When connecting the WD My Book via USB to Airport Extreme, the router had no trouble in detecting it (including total, free space, etc). My problem is in being able to access correctly to the HDD (in the Windows 7 laptop and from the WDTV Live).
In Airport Utility I have the following Disk options set:
    - Enable drive sharing (X)
    - Secure shared disks (with accounts) --> I have defined 1 single user and password
    - Guest access (not allowed)
    - Share disks over Ethernet WAN port (  )
    - Workgroup e WINS server bothe empty
After some fight, I could only access the HDD from Windows 7 with:
    \\Airport_Name\HDD_Name
    or
    \\Airport_IP\HDD_Name
The 1st thing I cannot do is, in the Windows 7 laptop, is to Airport Base Station utility to work properly. It detects the HDD, but then it doesn't accept me any user/password. It would make sense to use the above defined account, right? This is weird.
The 2nd thing which bugs me and I couldn't overcome yet, is that when I access the HDD, I can only view/change files inside a folder called SHARED created in the HDD root (by the  Airport Extreme - with 1 file with extension sharepoint inside).
The main goals of having the HDD connected to Airport Extreme are:
    - Backup things from my Windows 7 laptop directly to the HDD;
    - Play files (from WDTV Live).
Without being able to access the WHOLE fodler structure in the HDD, I cannot do backups as I want to and playing files in the media player is also a bit cumbersome...
So, I would like to know if anyone know of a way of forcing Airport Extreme to share everything which is in the HDD root via Wifi and not only what it is inside the folder SHARED...
Thanks in advance for any help/idea.

    Try a powered USB hub.
Reason....the USB port on the AirPort Extreme is borderline as far as its ability to provide sufficient power to a hard drive....even if the hard drive has its own power supply.
After two years, the power supply in the AirPort Extreme is likely not delivering quite as much oomph as it did when it was younger.
I have three hard drives here, and each one works fine when it is connected directly to a computer (almost all computers have high power USP ports....the AirPort Extreme does not), but none of them will work when I connect them to the AirPort Extreme unless I use a powered USB hub.
Just in case....make sure that you understand the store's return policy before you buy the powered hub....but my hunch (assuming that the USB port on the AirPort is working) would be that you won't be returning it.

  • Sony PSP connection to Airport

My son got a Sony PSP for X-mas and we have been trying to connect it to our home Airport Extreme network via wi-fi. The PSP sees our network and shows a strong signal. I popped in the Hex equivalent WEP key, but when I go to connect it tells me that don't have the authority to connect. I also have a Wii that I connected without any problems. Am I missing something?

Sony PSP is a 811.11 B device (not G). So if only 811.11G enabled on your Airport, it won't be able to use it. If you made Airport "811.11G only", this is the case.
Also the security must be "WPA and WPA2", not "WPA2 only".
If these doesn't work. If you got a memory stick with PSP (I guess bundled) and if there is some other open network which you can connect (such as Cafe, neighbor etc.) , you should charge it completely and run its "Firmware update check", which is similar to OS X Software update.

  • Setting up Airport Extreme to "play nice"  with Sony's LocationFree TV

    Hi,
I have a PSP, an Airport Extreme and Express and a Sony LocationFree TV Base Station (LF-PK1). I had it all set-up and everything but had to reset my Airports (don't ask). Now, I can't get my LocationFree TV to work while on the go. If I connect through my home wireless network, it's all good. I think it has to do with Port Forwarding on my Extreme. I remember finding a great article on this website or forum but I can't find it anymore.
Can you please help me troubleshoot this? I went on Sony's website (horrible, their site isn't Mac friendly) but couldn't find much help. Oh, and lastly, I would love to know if there is a Mac-compatible LocationFree player for Canadians. The one from Iogen is only for American clients... yikes!
This forum rocks, thanks in advance guys.

I think that you are referring to Steve Newstrum's User Tip "How do I use Port Mapping (Part I)".

  • Sony PSP & airport

My sony psp is having problems connecting to my airport. It is asking for a 10-26 char password that I forgot about.
Where do I find this info?

here is some manuals on it:

  • Using Sony PSP to control PS3 remotely with Airport

I am trying to set up a Sony Play Station Portable (PSP) to use as a remote controller for a Sony Play Station 3 (PS3). The manual says that my router must support either UPnP (Univerisal Plug and Play) or I need to be able to set up the PS3 via Port Forwarding (also known as Port Mapping or Address Conversion). (The port I need to enable is TCP: 9293).
I looked through the Airport Extreme manual and couldn't find a way to do either.
    My Questions:
    1) Does the Airport Extreme support either UPnP and/or Port Forwarding?
    2) If yes on either one, how do I go about it?
    Thanks,
    Alan

    1) Does the Airport Extreme support either UPnP and/or Port Forwarding?
The AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) does not support UPnP, but it does support the Apple version, known as NAT Port Mapping Protocol. In addition, the AEBS does support port mapping (forwarding).
    2) If yes on either one, how do I go about it?
Do you have the 802.11g (dome-shaped) or 802.11n (box-shaped) AEBS?

  • I am unable to get Airport Extreme WiFi to work with Windows 8 Sony Laptop

My Airport Extreme WiFi works with my Mac Book Pro, iphones, ipad and DVR's, but will not work WiFi with my Sony VAIO laptop running Windows 8.  Although it does work with the laptop using a ethernet cable.  Has anyone else had this issue and can you please tell me how to resolve the problem?

Windows can have issues with the wireless name.
Make sure the name conforms to windows standard.
    Short, 2-20 characters
    No spaces,
    Pure alphanumeric.
eg AEwifi is a good wireless name.
Fred Blog's Airport Extreme Wireless87AD34 is a really bad name.
Test also by removing the security and just see if you can connect if the short name doesn't help.
WPA2 Personal is really the only security worthy of the name and the password should be mix of upper and lower case plus numbers.. keep it pure alphanumeric also.
Set fixed wireless channels at least for 2.4ghz may help, depending on your location geo standards wise.
Test 11, 6, 1 in that order. With no security briefly. And a short name. (different name on the two bands is also a good idea).
Then wireless is not compatible.. you should download another driver for whatever wireless card the Sony uses.. intel most likely and they have a reputation as lousy. So download latest and a few prior to that as well.

  • How to setup the Airport Extreme for PSP?

Can anyone tell me how to setup the Airport Extreme for PSP? I have been searching the Discussions but none of the posting seems to explain detail enough. A step by step guide would be very appreciated. Thanks.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Sorry, I forgot to mention a few points:
    1) I don't have the Airport Extreme base station;
    2) My PowerBook is connect to the internet thru wired connection with the Built-in Ethernet;
    3) The Airport is turned on, but my PSP's scan cannot locate the PowerBook at all (while it find someone else's network)
So, I wonder if I can just connect my PSP to the built-in Airport in the PowerBook directly. So that I can have internet access on my PSP.

  • I have a Sony Bravia KDL46W905 TV but I can't get it to connect the Airport Extreme router

My Sony Bravia KDL46W905 TV won't connect to my Airport Extreme router and the internet. It recognises and picks up my home wireless network though and I'm inputting the correct password but still won't connect. The router is set to WPA2 Personal.
    Anyone any ideas?

While most devices should connect using WPA2 Personal, please temporarily test using no security to see if the Sony TV will connect that way.
If it will, then try the more compatible setting of WPA/WPA2 Personal on the AirPort Extreme and test that way.
However, if the TV will not connect using no wireless security.....then it is a no brainer to conclude that the TV will never connect with security enabled....so more troublehooting is going to be required.
In that case, make sure that the name of your wireless network......
Does not exceed 20 characters, fewer would be better
Does not contain any special characters like an apostrophe, asterisk, dollar sign, etc
Does not have any blank spaces
For example, if the current name of your wireless network is something like.....
    rpepler's wireless network
Change that to read something like.....
    rpeplerwireless
Same rules for the wireless network password

  • How do i enter a sony tv wireless pin code into airport extreme?

How do I enter a sony tv wireless PIN code into airport extrme / time capsule?

If you have upgraded to Lion 10.7.3, you will need to download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion
If you are still using Leopard or Snow Leopard, you can use the version of AirPort Utility that is already installed on your Mac
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Select the AirPort Extreme
    Click Manual Setup
Shift the focus of your eyes away from the window in the center portion of the screen and move the focus all the way up to the very top of the screen where the Help, Window, Settings menus are located
Click on the Base Station menu
Click Add Wireless Clients and proceed

  • Sony Ericsson w705 connects to Airport Extreme but can't get data

My Sony Ericsson w705 has wifi, it connects to my Airport Extreme (802.11g 2004 model) network but cannot receive data to surf the net. I have managed to connect the handset to another wifi network so my settings must be the issue. I have been told that once connected I should be able to see a DNS address in my network settings.
I connect to my network wirelessly with my macbook without any issues.
When I connect to my network with the Sony Ericsson w705 there is no DNS address in the connection settings. Any ideas how I can fix this.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the tips, Bob & Bill. We've done a complete shutdown/restart cycle of modem, AirPort Extreme (sorry for the confusion on that!), and computer (turning back on in order from the wall on out), but we hadn't tried leaving the modem off for longer than a couple minutes, so I'll try that. Although it seems strange to me that it would talk to the computer but not to the base station. I've never seen that happen.
Bob, his connection is satellite, so the modem is whatever goes with that. I don't know how different it is from a DSL modem or a cable modem. (He lives out in the sticks, and that's his only option other than dial-up.)
    Will post results ASAP.
