Airport Extreme (n-version) as base for extending with Airport Express(old)

I have a new Airport Extreme that I need to extend - meaning need an ethernet connection on the other side of the room, but I dont want to drag a wire across. I have an extra, and old, Express but I have spent the past couple of hours trying to get it to share/extend the network. Everything seems to configure properly (and I have tried all sorts of options - even setting up a WDS which doesnt seem to work), but when I plug in to the ethernet jack - and then this to my computer - it does not see anything. Help?

You'll need to check a few settings on the AirPort Extreme because you'll need the information to configure the AirPort Express correctly.
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup for the AirPort Extreme
Click the Wireless tab located just below the row of icons
Jot down the exact name of your wireless network and the security setting that you have in place now. I assume that you already know your wireless network password.
Close AirPort Utility
"Hard reset" the AirPort Express (AX) by holding in the reset button on the AX until you see the amber light begin to flash more quickly, keep holding the reset button when this occurs for another 4-5 seconds and then release
Connect the AX to one of the LAN <-> ports with the ethernet cable
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup for the AX. You'll be prompted to Switch networks so that you can configure the AX
Click the Base Station tab (located under the row of icons) to name your AX, establish a device password and adjust Time Zone settings
Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Exact same name as your AirPort Extreme wireless network
Radio Mode = 802.11 b/g
Channel = Automatic
Wireless Security = Exact same setting as your AirPort Extreme network
Wireless Password = Same password as your AirPort Extreme network
Confirm Password
Click the Internet icon and check these main settings
Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode0
Update to save settings. Close AirPort Utility as soon as you see the message that the settings have been stored. The AX will restart in 30-40 seconds. Then restart your entire network by powering everything down. Wait a moment and start the modem first, then the AirPort Extreme, then the AirPort Express and your computers and devices.
If you decide to use the powerline adapter to allow the AX to be located wherever you want, the AX is already configured to so so.

Advice? Networking Airport Express, old iMac and ethernet converter/switch

Got an old iMac (266 mHz, OS 10.3.9, 384M RAM) I'm trying to get wireless and network with wife's laptop and (in a few weeks) a new MacBook. Internet is from a wireless provider (Clearwire.net) and its modem hooks into iMac's ethernet port. Works great.
Also have an Airport Express and I see two options here: Get an ethernet converter for the iMac or an ethernet switch that would connect to the Airport Express and the iMac (Clearwire modem, iMac and Airport Express are in same room, so wire connections not a problem).
The latter is cheaper (switch vs. converter), but would tie me down to that room. How much of a hassle would it be to network the iMac through the converter since it doesn't have an Airport card? Can I set up Airport Express through the Airport Assistant software in OS 10.3.9 on the iMac even though it doesn't (and can't) have a card?

All I can tell you is how I have my home network setup and hopefully that will give you some ideas. I have DSL at home which came with a DSL modem / Wireless router made by Westell. I have an eMac running 10.3.9 which I have an Airport Extreme card installed. I have my old "Grape" tray-loading iMac running OS9.2.2 for which I purchased an Ethernet-to-WiFi bridge device. And finally I have an ancient Windows ME running laptop on which I have a USB-to-WiFi device (I got it in a trade). All three of these I was able to setup and configure to access the internet via the DSL wireless router.
So to answer one of your questions, yes the Ethernet-to-WiFi bridges work fine, are OS independent, do not require drivers, and won't tie up your valuable USB port instead using the Ethernet port you likely are not using anyway.
However, the one thing I have not bothered to do is to share the computers with each other. In other words, all of them can connect to the internet but none of them are set up to see the others or share files. For what little sharing or file moving I need to do, I just use an USB Flash drive, which all three computers can see/use fine and transfer stuff that way if I need to.

Extend with 2nd Express?

I have a studio apartment behind my house. It is across a 20' patio and tree. I have an airport extreme in my front room, and an airport express in the back room of the house closest to the studio. I want to provide my tenant with wireless. She is only able to get two out of four bars on her signal strength. We live in an urban area, and there is lots of "noise" -- mac stumbler shows a signal in my house of 63 - 98 with noise around 52 at most times. I don't know if this is the problem... can I extend the first express with a second? Perhaps actually in her apartment?

That should be fine, I am sending this to the forum with 1 bar going on 2!
Remember that if you put an Airport Express (AX) in her apartment though her Mac will get a stronger signal, the AX will only be receiving the poor signal she can get already.

New Airport Express/Old iMac

This is my first time trying to set up a wireless network. I have installed the original Airport Card in my iMac and I just upgraded to Tiger (10.4.3). When I try to use the Airport Assistant to connect to my new Airport Express, I get the "There was an error joining the AirPort network 'xxxxx'" message. At this point I am only trying to use Airport for printing (will be getting DSL in a couple of weeks). The Airport Express is flasing amber. I have reset it several times with no success. I have also tried to download 6.1.1 Firmware, but it will not install because I'm not connected to the Airport. Help please.

Are you in range of the Airport Express? First off make sure you are sitting next to the AE.
I have this setup you are talking about, AE with the printer attached and no other connections. This configuration in my house has no blinking light just the solid green. This configuration work well I have two ibook laptops one older and one new that access the printer via the AE and it works great.

Will extending with an Express drop the throughput of an Extreme

I just bought a new Extreme base station and discovered that it doesn't have the range I need. If I buy an Express to extend the range, will I lose the benefit of the "n" throughput?

My IBM X220 does a better job accessing harddisks on apple extreme in wifi extended with apple express than my macbook Air

I have 2 harddisks connected to a Apple Extreme, and USB hub.
An apple express extends the wifi network. Both devices are located on 2 stages in the house.
I want to access the files on the HD from my Macbook Air downstairs. Maverick.
Totally impossible.
My IBM X220 does a far better job.
I Used 2,5 Ghz, 5Ghz. Different channels.
The router has a disabled wifi as the extreme takes care of it.
I'm at 4 meters from the express. This is ridiculous. If this is extending a network.

SAP BASIS for beginner with database (Oracle/DB2) background

I am basically from Oracle/DB2 database background , the place I am currently working is mainly using SAP, I also have interest in learning ERP so would like to start learning SAP BASIS and write some certification exams, but not sure from where to start , looks like it is very hard to get some guidence until you join some training institute , could someone please guide which certification best suits me as a beginner ?

Airport Express -- old model vs new - question

On the Ariport Express Wiki page, it states that the old model A108x does not have "Wireless-to-Ethernet Bridge mode" while the newer (A1264) model has it. If in fact the newer model does have this, what does it allow one to do vs having the older model? ( I have the older model )

OK, let me see if I've got this right: if I had an older model Express as my base model and another older model used to extend the signal, I could not use the available ethernet port of the second express to connect to a laptop that does not have a wireless card and access the internet on that laptop.
No that is not correct. You can configure the two 802.11g AirPorts in a WDS. The second Express' Ethernet port WOULD be enabled for wired clients.
But if I had two of the newer models (or an extreme as my base and one newer express), then I would be able to use the express' port to wire into the laptop and access the internet. Yes?
Sorry, if I am causing you additional confusion. You basically have three choices to enable the second Express' Ethernet port for wired clients:
Using two 802.11g AirPorts, configure them for a WDS.
With one "g" and one "n" AirPort, configure the "n" AirPort as a ProxySTA.
With two "n" AirPorts, configure both for an extended network.

thus i created an index for the attributes class and module (node-attribute-equality-string) to improve the performance. this works really well, but I'm still not satisfied with the results. is there a way to create an index that handles both attributes at once (instead of two indexes).
another problem, occurs after an insert. when i access the data (via a query like the above), then it goes fast. when i insert another node into the database (that does not even has attributes class or module, so it does not interfere with the index) then the same query as before is slower (by a factor of 3 to 5). when i then reindex manually everything is fast again.
btw. we use a node container

Add an attribute to your document that combines @class and @module. This @class-module attribute needs a delimiter to seperate the two parts, some string that may not be found in either valuespace. btw. we use a node containerWhich version and patch level? There have been various patches floating about this forum, some of them related to indexing. I've lost track of them. It would be good to see a Consolidated Patch 2 (CP2) for 2.4.16 even though 2.5 seems not too far away.

Where to locate HTTP Server for use with Oracle Express 10g and Apex?

Hello,
Im a newbie and I downloaded oracle express 10g and Apex 3.2.1. The Apex install is referencing "choosing a HTTP Server" specifically "Oracle HTTP Server and mod_plsql and the embedded PL/SQL Gateway". My question is do the HTTP server or PL SQL embedded Gateway come with the 10g install or do I need to download them seperately? If so where can I locate them?

Using older Extreme as a wifi extender with new tower extreme

Howdy. Trying to set up extended WiFi and having a terrible time. Have new extreme tower as base station as plugged in to cable modem. Trying to use Los Extreme as extender. Took both to Apple store and asked for help. Tech guy said no problem and configured it. I put in same wifi password and hoped I would have plug and play but to no avail. Have used utility to rename old extreme the same as new new extreme and with the same password. No luck. Problem is I do not know enough about "advanced" settings in utility to make this happen. Have 2 iPads and two iPhones (wife and I) plus a LENOVO DESKTOP. any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

If your old Extreme is compatible with new version of the Extreme, it is easier for most users to use an iPad or iPhone to configure the setup.....but a Mac could be used as well.
Do you know what operating system the Mac is using? If not, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version that you see there.

Is Airport express right for me?

I have a PC and hoping that I can plug it in, in my brothers room, and hope that it would be big enough to go to at least the next room over. I am very excited for the IOS 5 update this fall and want to be prepared. Now I'm in my brothers room which has the ethernet cable in it. If I hook up the airport express, form what i'm reading, I can plug it in to the wall, hook up an ethernet cable to it, and then bada-bing bada-boom I have Wi-Fi. I basically just want to set up a Wi-Fi connection so I can have my Xbox, iPod, and brother Labtop all on the Wi-Fi network. I want to be able to connect with my iPhone so if I need to print a paper from school, I can with my wireless printer, and play music from on my computer, from my phone.
Basically, will and Airport express provide me with the Wi-Fi experience I am looking for?
And if my PC is hooked up with an ethernet cable, and not the wireless, will it still be on the same network and cooperate with the other devices on Wi-Fi?
Any suggestions? Tips? Comments? I need anything I can get, thanks!
***** I don't have a "Time Capsule" or any other apple device creating a Wi-Fi network. On the opposite side of the house is where the modem is, plugged into my dads Mac, and he has a airport connection being given off on that side of the house. Do I have to have another device to create a wireless network? Is Airport express just an extender for another product..?

Older versions of Ipod for Windows

IN looking at my add/remove menu in windows, I have eight versions of "Ipod for Windows" with various dates. Is it safe to uninstall the older versions?

Yes it is, the iPod updater was integrated with iTunes when version 7 was released. As a back up, you might want to keep the last one in case you ever needed it but dispose of the rest, they are just taking up space.

Cannot re-configure Airport Express

I have a Time Capsule as my base station and at one point I had successfully extended it with an Airport Express. I had set a password for the wireless network but had lost it. My grandson had a new computer he wanted to add to the wireless network and so I attempted to reset the password on the time capsule. The problem is that after I did this I could no longer see the Airport Express in the AirPort Utility so that I could reset the password there as well.
Everything that I have tried has failed to allow me to access the AirPort Express via the AirPort Utility. I've done a hard-reset and a hard-reset to restore factory default settings. Nothing works. HELP!

I had the same problem. If rescanning doesn’t bring it up then quit Airport Utility, reboot the computer, open the Utility and rescan. I had several attempts before I could see it.
I use an 802.11n Airport Extreme as base, extending with the Express. Although I can see it in the Utility (green status) it does not extend the network any longer. My Apple TV shows full signal bars, and then after a minute it drops off to one bar and can no longer see the network. Very disappointed in the reliability of Apple's wireless appliances. Made in China means poor and inconsistent manufacturing, lack of process controls, high production failure rates (< Sis Sigma), resulting in poor quality. Apple, bring back your manufacturing to the US and reinstate quality into your products!
