Airport Extreme Orange Light

So, today my Airport Extreme just stopped working.  It's not my internet connection because I've unplugged from the AE router and direct into my Mac and I can get on the internet just fine.  It was telling me that it was waiting for me to connect an ethernet cable.  Which was also the message that was being received by my ISP so the guy in tech support supposed that I should change my cable from the modem to the router.  Which I did.  Still giving me the same error.  I've even hard reset the router to factory and it's still giving me this message.
Any ideas or solutions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

So I've had it working for a while, then some moron in my town apparently cut a cable line and knocked out the internet and cable etc.  I'm back online using a DLink router because my precious, and evidently delicate, Airport NOT-SO-Extreme has decided to give issues once again.  It just keeps telling me there is no cable connected from the modem to the router.  Which is odd, because the same three cables I've tried to use are the same three that work JUST FINE with the Dlink.  Anybody, PLEASE!  I'd like my Apple products to JUST WORK!  Seems like they JUST AREN'T these days.  Between this and the battery life on my iPhone and the constant Mountain Lion issues I've been having I'm ready to pack in my twenty year long relationship with Apple.

  • Airport Extreme - green light, but no internet

I've been using my airport extreme for 2 years, connected to an Alcatel-Lucent modem.
A couple of months ago I bought 2 airport express devices and cabled them to the extreme in bridge mode, working just fine.
After a 2-week trip I returned home and I found that all the devices showed a green light in the Airport Utility, but the internet was orange.
I could connect myself to the network, play music in my airplay sound system, but couldn't surf the web or use my apple tv.
Now internet is changing from green to orange every 5 minutes.
I tried everything that I have read in different forums, but with bad results.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thank you very much.

I tried working on my computer with a wired connection from the modem itself and it works perfectly.
If you mean that you have the computer connected directly to the modem and things work OK, then leave things "as is" for at least a few hours.....longer would be better....and report on your results at that time.
Then, we will do the next check.

  • AirPort Extreme / Green Light ON / Can't see it on network

    My Setting
Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi (4th Gen) and Motorola Surfboad Model SB6120 with Comcast service
Solid Green Light is ON / Internet is working with LAN line connection on Airport Extreme.
    Problem
I can not see it from wireless.
    Attempts
Scan with Airport Utitity from my MacBook Pro
Scan with Airport Utility from iPhone 4
    Scan with other PCs.....

Your problem might stem from having your Airport create a "private" or "hidden" network or by having turned off the wireless functionality of the AE.
If you think you might have setup a private network, but don't know the name, or turned off the wireless, you can:
    - connect your MBP by ethernet cable; then,
    - adjust the WiFi settings to enable wireless clients; or
    - adjust the Wireless security to disable a hidden or private network.
If all else fails, perform a hard factory reset by holding down the physical reset button in the back of the AE with a paperclip, and redo the setup.
    Good Luck.

  • Airport Extreme LED light

My new Airport Extreme gen 6 now has no solid green LED light on the front of the router. The first few weeks I had it, the light was on all the time. I equate the status light with proper operation and I'm wondering if there is a issue that is preventing full functionality. AirPort Utility says everything is ok, but I still wonder.
Any suggestions as to why the green status light is off?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, a number of users have reported similar issues.
Please return the defective AirPort Extreme for a new unit if you want to see a green LED on the AirPort.

  • New Airport Extreme, Green Light,  No Internet

Trying to get wifi connection so my mom can use her new ipad I bought her for Christmas and so guests can use wifi when they visit. I connected this new airport extreme 802.11n Wi_Fi to their comcast modem. After connecting get green light on airport extreme but now no internet connection on mac desktop computer. Have tried resetting modem, powering off airport and computer... still no internet. Internet works fine using comcast modem but does not connect to internet at all with airport extreme. Help. Extremely frustrated and ready to return this airport extreme.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
It's likely not the AirPort Extreme that is causing your issue. It is the cable modem.
Perhaps you were not aware that a cable modem must be completely reset whenever there is a change in the device that the modem is connected to? Your ISP should have made this clear to you. A good reset often takes 30 minutes or more.
Push the reset button on the modem
Power off the modem for 30 minutes
Pull the battery if it's easily accessible
Power down the AirPort Extreme and your computers
After the wait period, power up the modem first and let it run for 3-4 minutes by itself.
Then power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Then power up your other devices the same way
Please post back on your results.

  • AirPort Extreme Amber Light flashing

I have this AirPort Extreme that can connect to the internet through a Telekom duo plus modem router but after a few minutes it start blinking amber again and needs a restart to work again for a few minutes.
I have 3 hard drives connected to it with a USB hub - working perfect.
I am not a apple or IT expert so I have done a reset on the modem/ router and AirPort Extreme.
I am also struggeling with setting up a VPN with these two devices.
Any suggestions? Should I get a new modem/router to connect to ADSL if so would a netgear router or Belkin work?

Reset the AirPort Express by performing the following "hard reset":
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.
Then, follow the setup instructions in this Apple Support document: Connecting to the Internet with PPPoE in Mac OS X v10.6 and later

  • Airport Extreme green light but can't see the wifi network

Hello, coming back from the holidays I can't see my Wifi network anymore (From PS3, Phone, Computers ..etc.). My airport has a greenlight and the internet is working fine if my computer is connected with an Ethernet cable. I re-did the configuration many times and I did a hard reset of both my modem and the airport. It is not setted to a hidden connection. All the settings are basic like before. The only difference is that I did the update to 7.6.4.

I think you were right, my airport was broken and I noticed that at the end of the configuration process where there's a green checkmark it was written in the bottom that a wifi device wasn't working properly. Nothing could be done to make it work though.
I bought a new Airport Express now but I still have a major problem. I was able to configure it through wifi with my iMac without any problem and now it is connected to the internet via wifi perfectly but i STILL can't see the network with either my Android phone or my PS3 console !?
    - Brand new airport express
    - configured to "create a wifi network" with a WPA2 password using the simple steps of the airport utility
    - Airport Utility 5.6.1
I did reset the airport express a few times with the utility and by removing the power cord. I also did reset my iMac and I can still connect to the wifi just fine with it.

  • Airport Extreme status light is dark.

The unit is plugged in and the box is warm indicating it is receiving power.  But, the status light is out.  I unplugged the power and after about 1 minute, I plugged it back in and there is no change.  Is there any way to recover this device or is it now dead?

If re-setting the device doesn't help, I would call Apple support.

  • Latest 7.6.1 firmware broke all Airport Express connections with Airport Extreme

Installed the latest Airport Utility (6.0) last night.  Once installed I ran Airport Utility and saw my 4 Airport Express N's, one Time Capsule, and Airport Extreme needed a firmware update to version 7.6.1.  Installed to all of them, and initially everything came back up-and-running.  All this equipment remains on 24-hours a day, and the four Airport Express are wirelessly joined to the Airport Extreme's wireless network.
This morning the wireless link between the Airport Extreme and all four Airport Express's was broken (flashing amber light on all of them).  Power resets did nothing.  The Time Capsule link was still good; however, the Time Capsule is connected to the Airport Extreme via ethernet.  Visited this forum and saw other folks were having similar problems.
I saw no way of downgrading the Airport Extreme firmware with Airport Utility 6.0, so I downloaded Airport Utility 5.6.  I launched it, and was able to downgrade the Airport Extreme firmware back to version 7.6.  After hard resetting the four Airport Express units, I was able to downgrade their firmware also back to 7.6.  Everything immediately came back online.
Am going to sit this firmware update out until more shelf life exists with it.  I also agree the Airport Utility 6.0 seem to be a less capable step backward.  Why someone thought we need a simpler interface for a "Utility" that resides in the "Utility Folder" is mystifying.

First I've updated my Extreme to 7.6.1, then, the Express.
Everything work fine untill I update the Airport Utility to the new version and rebooted my extreme, then my Express stop working (An can't be detected anymore by the Airport Utility, orange light)
So I took my laptop, plug a network cable between it and my Express (Now I was seeing it in the Airport Utility) and reconfire the wireless network connection between them.
    Hope this Help!
    Fred

  • Mount Hard Drive on Airport Extreme-my experience

Hi-hopefully this will help fellow strugglers:
I have setup and been using a Apple wireless network in my home for several years - Airport Extreme 2.4 Ghz/5Ghz ver. 7.6.1 - (newest model), Airport Express. It is working fine. I am describing how I  mounted a USB hard drive to the Airport extreme USB Port:
    Disk Description :
    Maxtor OneTouch III Media
    Total Capacity :
    120.03 GB (120,034,123,776 Bytes)
    Connection Bus :
    USB
    Write Status :
    Read/Write
    Connection Type :
    External
    S.M.A.R.T. Status :
    Not Supported
    USB Serial Number :
    2CASC4FY
    Partition Map Scheme :
    Apple Partition Map
    OSX 10.8.2
    I believe this is USB 2.0 connection(USB 2.0 A to Mini-B cable)
    My MacPro is
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.4/2.2 GHz)
    MacBookPro3,1
I opened the Airport Utility (ver 6.1-610.31) and select the Airport Extreme (green light on) and click edit. Then am presented with the following tabs at the top (Base Station, Internet, Wireless, Network, Disks). I check the 'Disks' on the dialog box, I did not enable file sharing and share disks over WAN. My hard drive showed up in the window of the dialog box. Now when I open a Finder window my hard drive can be found under "Charles' Airport"). I hope this helps anyone else trying to do same. Good luck. Now, I wonder if I can do my backups through time machine? Later CB

Now, I wonder if I can do my backups through time machine?
Although Apple says that you cannot do this, other users have been able to do this with varying results.
it does seem to work for some users, while other users.....like me....find that backups work OK for a few weeks to even a month or more and then find that the backups have become corrupted.
There is nothing wrong with trying things out to see how they work for you, but I would never do this unless I had a secondary backup plan in place.

I have an Airport Extreme, the light is only flashing amber and won't go solid green. I use my ipad 2 to try and setup the Airport and I keep getting "an unexpected error occured, try again." I've tried my iphone 4 with the same result. I've tried the utilty on my pc and same result. The airport is producing a great wireless signal and working to all devices. I really just want to get in and set the password.

I have reset several times with no success.
When you did those resets, did you continue to hold in the reset button until the status light blinked several times?  If you didn't, then you didn't do a full reset.
Here's what I do to reset an AirPort base station:  I unplug it, press in the reset button, then, while continuing to hold in the reset button, I plug it in.  (Yes, doing this can be easier for people with more than two hands!)  I then watch the status light and wait until it flashes rapidly several times.
I have a Time Capsule that I couldn't configure at one point.  To recover from that I had to unplug it for many hours.  You might try unplugging your unit overnight.

  • Airport utility doesn't see airport extreme

i bought an Airport Extreme to replace a Linksys router that works but with a weak range.
I disconnected my Linksys router and plugged the cables into the Airport Extreme as per the instructions (btw, i don’t know why Apple has to use the silly little icons instead of labeling the WAN connection ‘Internet,’ but whatever.) I plugged in the power. The Link light for the connection came on.
The Airport Extreme status light glowed amber.
I ran the Airport utility on an iPad. It says it doesn’t see any Airport Extreme.
The Airport Extreme started flashing amber.
I read the troubleshooting instructions. I powered down the cable modem. I pushed the reset button on the Airport Extreme. I unplugged everything, plugged it in again. I tried the Airport utility on an iPhone. It said it didn't see any Airport Extreme. I checked the Airport utility on the iPad. Still didn't see anything.
I plugged my Linksys router back in and everything works.
    Huh?

Power off the cable modem for 5-10 minutes to allow it to reset. It will not recognize the AirPort until it resets correctly.
Connect the Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort
Please go back to the home screen on the iPad
    Tap Settings (gear icon)
    Tap WiFi
Just under the heading of Setup a New AirPort Base Station, a listing of AirPort Extreme should appear.
    Does it? If yes,
Tap on AirPort Extreme to start the setup "wizard" and follow the prompts.

  • AirPort Extreme as a client

I have my DSL modem connected to a 2 year old Netgear wireless ( 802.11b )router. I have my network security set for "none" (no password) . This has always worked fine with my multipe Macs. Now I want to add a new AirPort Extreme Wireless Base Station only as a client for USB printing and iTunes in another room by my G5. How do I set ithe AirPort Extreme up as a client? The AirPort Extreme amber light blinks slowly indicating a network connection problem. The G5 sees the AirPort Extreme but shows an error message when attempting to connect to it. I am not trying to access the internet nor extend range through the AirPort Extreme, because I don't think it can with the Netgear base station. I will eventually rewire my connection and use the full AirPort Extreme WBS fuctionality just not yet.

    Vonb,
Currently, the Airport extreme does not support wireless client mode, nor does it stream iTunes. You can find information on what the yellow light blinking means in Knowledge Base Article 305101(http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305101). Apple does make the Airport Express BaseStation (http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/) , which appears to meet the requirements that you are looking for.

    John

  • Connecting HDD to Airport Extreme causes orange death light...

I am in a small office network with mix of pc and mac (7 pc's, 1 iMac, 1 wireless iMac, and 3 wireless macbook pro's). Internet connection comes into building directly to airport. Airport then feeds a couple of systems directly and a Dlink 24port ethernet switch which connects all other hardwired network connections.
I just purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desk 1.5TB external USB2 drive to be used as a network storage drive (not with time machine just grabbing and dumping files for interoffice sharing). Removed preloaded software and formatted fat32. Disk will be mounted and recognized when connected to any mac directly. When connected to the usb port on the airport extreme it begins to initialize and then bombs. Airport gives the orange death light and there is no connectivity to the router for all (ie internet connection, etc.) When you unglug the HDD the router reboots and then goes back to green light of peacefulness. What am I missing? Setting? Order of connection? Not hitting it hard enough on the ground with a large 10lb sledge hammer? Help me out...

you may need to restart the AEBSn with the drive plugged in.
since it might have been long since the AEBSn was restarted and anything else attached to it.
or a restore to factory settings...
i know not the best you want to hear, it should just work.
make sure all the AEBSn updates are there...etcetc
i was having this problem the past month or so and it started working again flawlessly after a few restarts.

  • Airport Extreme - Everyday it flicks over to orange light for 30 seconds!

    Hello all,
I have an Airport Extreme (Airport Utility says version 7.4.2). It's been really reliable and fantastic up until mid-last week when it decided that at least once everyday the green light will turn orange, it will remain like that for about 30 seconds and then go green again. While the light is orange, any computers connected to it drop the internet/network connection. There's nothing wrong with the internet connection, as that remains working (tested by connected directly to the router via ethernet and wirelessly, on both times the connection remained while the Airport Extreme went from green, to orange, and back to green).
Any ideas? I think everything is up to date, and no settings have been changed.
    Thanks in advance.
    Chris

Is anything connected to that second Ethernet port?  Have you tried connection your Mac to the AirPort Extreme with an Ethernet cable to see if that helps the configuration process?
