Airport Extreme - Ps4 , Sonos system , apple tv and other apple products
I need some help, i'm thinking of changing routers i currently have a belkin n750 db , and its not compatible with my sonos system , but i also like to game. I was wondering if the airport extreme would be able to handle all of my gear . ( iMac , 2 iPhones , iPad , ps4 and apple tv ) as well as anything i may add in the future .
If you are a "gamer" the very first requirement on your list would be router that supports UPnP......Universal Plug and Play.....that automatically opens the ports that the game console will require.
The Apple AirPorts do not. That is about all that needs to be said about that.

Safari opens only these forums and other Apple pages?
I had to remove the router from my iMac last night, so I set the Network panel to work with the DSL modem only. After doing so, Safari only connets and opens the Apple forums and other Apple pages, nothing else. Also, Sotware Update won't work.
I have reinstalled the router, and right now the Network panel indicates that the network is working, and that the computer is connected to the Internet via the router and modem. It does not matter how many times I "Create A new Location" and then apply it. Safari won't work with any of the bookmarks, except for the Apple bookmarks.
I restarted the computer from the (backup) external hard drive and ran Safari from there, and it works fine. However, I followed the advise of an Apple Technician on a chat, and was told that I could drag Safari from the external HD to the internal, and replace Safari with it. I did so, and then restarted from the internal HD, placed the Safari alias in the trash, created a new alias and put it in the Dock, and used Safari. But Safari is having the same problems.
It seems that both Safari, and Software Update follow the same path from the computer to the Internet, so i am trying to figure with files in the System have screwed-up.
Do you have any ideas of what the problem with Safari may be?I will respond to myself to keep you informed of the progress with my problems and Safari/Software Update:
1. I created another account, but again there was no change with Safari nor with Software Update. I am certain that the problem is related to Software, perhaps Preferences and such.
2. However, since I don't know enough about OS X to mess around with it, I decided to start from the LaCie external HD as I did before, and proceeded to perform a "Smart Update" with SuperDuper. Before the Smart Update, I printed the last unread e-mail in the mailboxes, since I know that SuperDuper would erase those. I backed the iMac's HD a couple of days ago, before encountering all of these problems with Safari, so all the files and applications are fresh and in good order.
3. I am replaying to myself using Safari, after I restarted from the iMac's internal HD. Safari now works as well as ever, and I am certain that Sotfware Update will work fine, too.
I hope that Apple takes notes on the problems several of us are having with Safari. Just for the records: This version of Safari is the latest in Mac OS 10.4.2. A week or so ago, I upgraded OS 10.3.9 to OS 10.4, and had quite a lot of trouble with the Network panel. Regardless of the settings to use a router and modem, or jut the DSL modem, a connection to the server could not be established, and whenever such connection was possible, Safari would only open the Apple pages, and Software Update would not work.
I ended-up erasing the hard drive and reinstalling Mac OS 10.4 three more times, for a total of four, before I could get Safari and Software Update to work. On the last attempt, the only difference from the other attempts was that this time I didn't dare use Safari until every little update was installed by Software Update. Now, please note that the problems I had then were not exactly the same, since this time Network Diagnostics passed the connection test with flying colors. The previous times, a connection could not be established 99% of the time. But even though the problems were not exactly the same, I believe that whatever happens, to Safari, FireFox (FireFox was not working), and Software Update is related to whatever path these applications follow toward an Internet connection. -

Last question first, as we need to know what operating system that the Mac is using.
If you are not sure, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac, and post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

How do I add an Airport Extreme with Time Capsule to an existing non-Apple network? I have an ISP provided wireless Router that has to remain as the base station. I am able to join my 1/2TB Airport Extreme and Airport Express to the network, but I can't access/use Time Machine.
One option would be to connect the Time Capsule (TC) to the ISP-provided wireless router by Ethernet. You can then configure the for a roaming network. Then, depending on what your goal is for the AirPort Express, you can either: 1) Add it to roaming network, 2) Configure the TC & the Express for an "extended" network, or 3) Configure the Express to "join" the roaming network for AirPlay.

I have an Airport Extreme, 2 laptops with windows 7 and a wireless HP printer. I am not able to connect the laptops to the printer. Any advise?
The problem is not the router.. the issue is the vpn has put your computer in a different IP range with a different gateway. When you turn off the vpn the computer returns to local lan and can print.
Some vpn software allows you to set gateway to use local net instead of remote gateway or access to other webistes or local lan.
Read up the issue.

I did not search much.. just grabbed the first article I could find that explains the issue.
The whole point of the vpn is whilst it is connected your computer is NOT part of the Local Lan .. it is part of the Remote LAN via the vpn tunnel.
It is also a security risk using split tunnelling so often it will not be allowed.
Plug the printer directly into the computer via usb or whatever.. Local connection will work.. not local lan. -
i've had my airport extreme for over a year now. and it works perfectly with my original macbook. however, when other people visit, they can see my network but they can't connect. i also recently purchased a new macbook. and again, my new macbook will see my network but it won't connect. my iTouch has the same problem. help, please!
When only a single device can connect, that typically indicates that there may something not configured properly with the DHCP server service in the AirPort. Is your AirPort Extreme connected directly to a simple broadband modem or to another router upstream of it?
If it is a modem, please try a complete power recycle of all of your networking equipment. -
My 2nd generation Airport Extreme very slow via wireless (5 and belows mbps) wired over 20. Please help! What could it be?
It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference nearby that is preventing your AEBSn from providing a clean RF signal on the 2.4 GHz band.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like iStumbler, or AirRadar to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible. -

i got a 2012 13" macbook air, iphone5 and an 2012 appletv
ive also got two external usb3 2tb powered hdd's that i would to setup towards and use on my network.
i have videos/movies/files/music that i would like to access from the network,
so ive been looking at the extreme device and i can share via sb in the back x1 external hdd.
from what ive googled i can share more devices such as my x2 external hdd's via a powered hub, is that correct?
so my main question is..how fast is the read/copy/write going to be via through a hub?
will it lag/skip if i watch videos on my macbook or straight to my appletv, which supposedly i can do access aswell, is that correct?
just say video file will be 1gb only.. and im going to be only not even 5meters from the extreme device(network).
what transfer rate will it copy/write from and to from one device(usb3 external hdd via powered hub via airport extreme) to my mac?
what is the usb port on the back? 2 or 3?
does anyone have a similar setup or use an airport extreme device for this setup?
and my last question is...
how reliable are these extreme device?
from what i read, these devices only last like two yrs and people have had alot of problems issue with faults etc....Speed of read/write: if you're going by wireless, you're going to be limited by the wireless speeds. Based on my usage, it seems like wireless N at 5 GHz tops out around 5-6 MB/s (40-48 mbps) with this router. That's fine for video streaming, but will feel slow for heavy file transfer activity.
The USB port on the back of the device is USB 2.0. As a reminder, USB 2.0 is rated for theoretical speeds of 480 mbps, although in practice they're much lower; regardless, it's much faster than the wireless protocols are capable of. Your bottleneck will be the wireless.
I only use a printer with my USB port, so I can't give you any real-world experience with sharing hard drives. You can use a USB hub to expand the ports, but it will need to be a self-powered hub: the Airport Extreme won't power devices through the port. It's also worth noting that trying to use a network-shared disk as a Time Machine drive is a bit flakey; I've read a number of reports where people got it working, but then had their backups become corrupt with time. I haven't read any reports of people having issues with using drives for purposes besides Time Machine, though.
As for reliability, it's hard to say. Nothing lasts forever; you'll find people whose devices failed very quickly, and some who are using generation 1 or 2 devices that are still working just fine. I haven't heard any reports of an usually high failure rate with Airport Extremes. Operation-wise, my Airport Extreme (5th gen) is the most stable router that I've used, and I went through four or five other routers before this one. It's the only router that I have not needed to reboot, even after months of uptime and heavy traffic that usually choked up my other routers. I'm very impressed with it. -
AirPort Extreme- Works in 1 room, not the other
For the first month I lived in this house, the AirPort Extreme worked great in every room and in both the front and back yards. The unit is in my bedroom. When in my office, about 15 feet away, the unit works fine and my computer shows full signal strength. When in the living room, 5 feet away from the office, I have no signal at all. So, I ask, ***? Is there any type of diagnostic I can run, or any sort of reset I can perform? Unplugging and plugging back in does not do the trick. Is there a software update I am lacking, or some preventative maintenance I need to perform? This is pretty frustrating.

It may be RF interference caused by another RF signal or the material used in your house is blocking the signal.
Is your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) using 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz? If 2.4 GHz have you tried changing the channel used by the AEBS? -
Quicktime and Other Apple Software Close Unexpectedly
After installing Quicktime 7.1.6 my whole computer started messing up. Every time I try to open Quicktime it unexpectedly closes before it gets a chance to open. This also happens with Itunes and Other Apple Software, even system preferences closes unexpectedly. However I can open and run photoshop with absolutely no problems. Is there a way to revert to 7.1.5 or a way to restore the operating system to a date before I installed the new version of Quicktime? I know you can do that on windows operating system.

It's a Quicktime crashes with .AVI corrupted files..
'AVI' can be many things. It is not a codec but a container, and if a file is corrupted you can't blame Quicktime for not opening it!

My Messages and Facetime applications say my apple ID or password is incorrect when it works for other applications including icloud, and works on the apple id website.
