Airport extreme says  printer 'offline'

I've spent some time adding a new printer to my list (of 2) in airport extreme, but each time I try to print wirelessly, it tells me the new printer is 'offline'. What am I doing wrong? Everything is plugged in, the printer appears in the list in airport, I've done everything I can think of. HELP!

Might be a good idea to work through the Printer Troubleshooting Guide to see if that provides a missing step.
Remember, if you open a document to print, you will have to select the specific printer that want to print to.
Finally, not all printers are compatible with the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. If you review all of the steps in the troubleshooting guide and things still don't work, that may unfortunately be the case here.

I am not able to print to my usb airport extreme attached printer from my windows aptop or window desktop

Your post did not really provide any details on what you have done in the way of troubleshooting or printer software that you have installed, so we don't have much to go on here.
For starters though, you will not be able to print unless you have installed Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2 on the PC(s) and run the program.
So, if you have not done this, that would be a good first step.

  • Problem setting up printer for AirPort Extreme wireless printing

I have an AirPort Extreme 802.11n and I've connected my Canon MP240 printer to it via USB. However, my MacBook Pro (running OS X 10.8.4) says the printer is "offline" when it is plugged into AirPort Extreme and turned on. When I try to add it as a new printer, it recognizes it as a "Nearby Printer" and asks me to download and install the software from Apple. It then searches for the software for about a minute and gives me this error message: "Can't install the software for the Canon MP240 series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server." I've tried directly downloading the drivers from Apple's website http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899 and from Canon's website http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp240#DriversAndSoftware but neither work.
HOWEVER, the strangest part is if I were to connect the printer to my MacBook Pro directly via USB, it recognizes the printer and I can print no problem. This leads me to believe the drivers have already been installed onto my computer. If anyone knows how to get around this issue I'd greatly appreciate the help.

  • Airport Extreme Sharing printer to Leopard and Windows 7 via Ethernet port.

    Hello!
My home office is in a mixed environment, 1 iMac with Leopard 10.5.8, and the other iMac running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on bootcamp. Both computers are connected to the Airport Extreme (dual band version, firmware 7.4.2) via Ethernet. I attached the HP LaserJet P1006 to the Airport's usb port in order to share the printer to both platforms.
My problem is that, I got the printer installed on Win 7 by using bonjour print service v2.02 without any problem as it said works in both Ethernet and wireless, I sent a print test from win 7 successfully, then I did another test from leopard ( as I presumed it should works also), however, it says "the printer is in use". and wouldn't print. I tried restart the Airport Extreme and tried print from leopard again and that was fine but then Win 7 couldn't print.
Is there any solution for Mac + Win environment like my description? If I have 2 computers running on OS X they print perfectly well. Thanks all!
My solution for now is to physically plugging the printer to where I need to print from. I use Ethernet wired both computers is because I want to take the advantage of the gigabyte lan port for speedy files transfer between both computers.

If networking isn't working out for you, you may want to try out a swtich. Best Buy sells one by IOGEAR that allows for two USB connections to tie into one computer. So long as windows 7 can either download its own driver for the printer for basic features, or if you want to download canon's driver this solution will work. The only draw back is having to bring the laptop near the printer when you need to print.

  • Airport extreme and Printing : a solution that works for me

I post a new topic in order to avoid people going throught various topics.
_Explanation of the problem I had :_
When I plugged directly my printer (xerox 6110) to the usb of my PowerBook it worked fine. When I connected the same printer with the same cable to the usb port of my airport extreme (square model), I was Apple to install it throught bonjour on my laptop and my IMac. But I was only able to print trhourght textedit, and not throught word, excel, safari, etc. When printing from this application, after a while I had a page print with a timeout problem.
Solution (thanks to the following post : http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1201663&tstart=0 )
After trying drivers, and lot of other things, I tried what suggested in the topice above : I changed my USB cable that was connecting my AE to my printer : and now IT WORKS.
It is strange because I was able to print directly throught USB using the same cable, but not using my AE.
But anyway It work now !! This is the most important ! a lot of thanks for your help.
Hope it will help some of you

Ohhhh, Silly, silly moi. Ok, got it. Now I see "Partition". Thanks! Will try again. Downloading Windows support software as I type.
    Thank you.
One more thing - while attempting installation the first time (before I stumbled on this thread) - I looked up YouTube re how to create a USB bootable ISO (which included editing the info.plist file in Boot Camp Assistant).
When I tried installing 8.1 from the ISO, the installation aborted saying "cannot find resources" (something like that) - this occured after the first stage, i.e. while "preparing files to install Windows".
Assuming I get this again (I hope not!), is it because of a corrupted ISO?

  • TS1253 i have airport extreme, and printer works with my imac, but not with my mac book pro??

i tried setting up the printer under my wireless network only, and using the printer information, tried both and nothing works, my imac's same settings for the printer, and just cant get it to work.
i am ussing airport extreme, and it shows printer conecting etc. but then it says not programed correctly and it fails.
i dont know what else to try, i have followed every step on the manual, and nothing works..
    someone help me

Could you open System Profiler on the iMac and the MBPro and select the Printers entry. Then in the top right pane you can select the printers entry and the bottom right pane will show information about your setup. Can you copy this information from both Mac's and paste back here.

  • Photosmart 5515 on mac saying printer offline on mac. please help!

I have just bought a brand new Photomart 5515 and went through the whole install process.
It appeared that the printer was connected to my wireless network (I have printed out the config test thingy).
I have a MacBookPro running OSX 10.6.7. The printer seems to be on the network and I add the printer to my printer list. When I go to print the print queue tells me the printer is offline. I have looked thi up on various forums and have used hp's own troubleshooting page, this hasn't helped at all though.
I'm seriously considering taking the printer back as it seems like I have done all that hs been asked and this has been far from straight forward.
It doesn't seem as though there is anything physical actually stored on my machine in termsof a printer icon or any drivers, I add the printer to my list though the installation process but this is the only way i can seem to locate the printer. Is this normal for hp printers? I have always had Epson Machines and am beginning to wish I had stuck with them!

Hi I have spent hours actually more like  days on the very same issue and at least 10 hours on various tech support lines as I got bounced from one to the other neither HP nor Apple nor Zyxel nor Netgear (the two modems I have tried) tech support were able to solve it.
However I found a solution but it may mean you need some xtra hardware.
I have a Time Capsule that also has an Airport Extreme WiFi router ( you can get the Airport Express/Extreme seperately from Apple) however I have never used the router part since I thought there was little point in using this when it was already on the modem and my previous printer PC and Mac had worked fine up till this point on the Wifi supplied by the modem.
Anyway I thought it may all work better on an Apple network, so I set the the Airport Extreme Wifi router up as a Bridge (easily done the SW install gives you only 2 options) You simply connect an Ethernet Cable from the Modem in my case the Zyxel or NetGer to the Wifi router on the Airport Express.
You then launch the Airport Utility in the Utilities section of your applications.  It guides you through the set up. If you are set up as DHCP Auto then the only thing you will need to add is the DNS server, you can get this info from your ISP or else by loging into your modem and copying the setttings.
Once done the airport and modem reboot and you will see you have a new network .  Your Modem now just acts as a bridge to feed the internet connection to your Airport Express/Extreme Wifi router.
Then you just need to connect the devices to the new network.   Delete all the printer installation and start from scratch it finds the printer immedialty and no more problems.
This also solves any problems you have with trying to print using airprint from Ipad or Itouch.Which I was never able to do up to this point.
    hope this helps.

  • From iPad how do I use airport extreme to print to Epson R340

Can't print from my iPad through Airport Extreme to my Epson R340 printer.  Have no problem printing from my macbook air.

Unfortunately, it appears that your Epson is not AirPrint compatible. See the Apple support document below for more details.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
It's always possible that Epson may have updated the drivers recently to allow printing directly from the iPad, so you might want to check with Epson Support to see if that is the case.
A workaround that might work is to downloand and install an application like Printopia on your Mac. There's a free trial, so you will know in about 60 seconds whether this work for you or not.
The downside to the workaround is that your Mac must be running to allow the iPad to print using Printopia.

  • Airport Extreme saying no connection to the internet - cable modem still showing all is good. Airport Extreme light is still green.

I am having an issue where my airport extreme is saying there is no connection to the internet but still shows a green light and the status lights on the cable modem are all good. This is affecting both wired and wireless connection.
Today I had an issue where my iMac (wired) and other wireless devices could not connect to the internet but my work PC (windows 7 and also wired) was connected fine...in fact I was on a VOIP call at the time and had no issues. The only way I have of resolving this issue is to power cycle the airport by unpluging it.
Also, during this time I am unable to access the airport base station through via the airport utilities on my iMac, iPhone, or iPad.

I had the same experience yesterday when my airport extreme is green, cable modem has no problem and no internet on wired iMac or no WiFi. After talking to the cable company, there is nothing wrong with the cable modem and the line, the problem is in the System Preference>Network>Advance>DNS of the iMac. I don't know why as it seems like someone just turn my entire set up upside down. The only thing that I can relate to is that I was trying to figure out with Back To My Mac feature in iCloud between office and home.
In the Network, my DNS server somehow is 10.0.1.1 which is internal Apple IP. Take that out and you would see the actual DNS Servers from the providers.
Also when I look at the airport extreme through airport utilities, in Network setting the Router mode is Off (bridge mode). Once change this and everything is good to go.

  • Airport Extreme Wireless Printing with Snow Leopard Not Working

I have two base stations in my home office: an Airport Express that's connected to the cable modem, and an older Airport Extreme (A1034) that's connected to my printer on the other side of the room. They were networked together so that I could go online or print wirelessly without a problem, until I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Now I can go online, and I can print directly from a USB cable to my HP printer, but I can't print wirelessly. The Extreme doesn't seem to show up at all in Airport Utility. Is there a way to get this to work again? Thanks.

Yes, I do have the latest drivers. I can print directly to the printer through USB. I don't seem to be able to access the Airport Extreme base station though.

  • Fingerprint software installed on Macbook says printer offline any suggestions??

    Hi all
Am wanting to have the airprint facilty withput purchasing new printer, have installed FingerPrint software and it seems to be working okay, however on iphone it says printer is offline and on on Mac it says printer not conneted. I have a Canon MP600 and a Belkin router, I have done the troubleshooting tips on Fongerprint's website but still no joy.
    Any suggestions
    Regards
    Andrea

Well until you can get it printing from the Mac then you won't be able to get it printing from the iPhone.
    Some simple things to try;
Turn off the printer for a few minutes, then back on again.
A restart of the Mac can also help sometimes.
Check the USB cable to the printer.
Remove the printer from Print & Scan and add it again.

  • IPads, Airport Extreme and Printing

    Hi all,
I bought an Airport Extreme and have plugged a printer into the USB. The instructions imply anything on the Airport network should be able to use the printer.
Both my desktop and laptop Macs can, but I was really surprised to find that our iPads can't see it. It is enabled in Airport, but I haven't done anything with Bonjour.
I've looked through posts on here and it seems that for some reason iPads can't connect to a printer on Airport Extreme... this seems really, really odd!
I have no intention of buying an HP printer, which seems to be the only straightforward option. I tried searching for an oft-mentioned App called "Printopia" but it's no longer on the (Canada) app store.
This really does beggar belief.... it's only printing, for goodness sake! Surely it's just a matter of streaming data to a printer... which the iPad should surely be able to do over the air to the Airport Extreme??
Does anyone have any ideas how I can print from an iPad, without buying another printer?
    All advice appreciated!

    Thanks both.
I didn't think about drivers as I haven't had to install one for Mac for (probably) years! Things all just work when plugged in!
I tried Canon but their software only works with their wireless printers, which doesn't help me.
I didn't realise Printopia works just from a Mac.... in which case I might as well carry on doing what I'm doing now... emailing or synching docs through iTunes and print from the Mac.
Lets hope other printer manufacturer's make AirPrint capable machines soon...

  • AirPort Extreme and Printing

I have a problem trying to print wirelessly through AirPort Extreme. I have an Epson Stylus D78 and am connecting the printer through a powered 4-port USB hub. All firmware is fully up to date and I am running Leopard 10.5.3. Can you please help me?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Have you tried to connect the printer directly to the AEBS instead of the hub?
If it works, it would isolate the problem to the hub.

  • Airport extreme and printing on ipad

I have an airport extreme and a usb printer connected to the airport extreme. I'm trying to print using the airport extreme to a non airport printer I don't see the printer on the ipad when I select printer. (nothing shows up)
But when I add a printer on my mac that is connected to the airport extreme I can see the printer and it shows up as bonjour. (two entries show up, one with the location set as the base station the other nothing showing anything in the location option.
Any idea's why the printer doesn't show up on the ipad or my iphone?
    Thanks

Since you do not have an AirPrint compatible printer, you will need to install an App like Print Central to see if it might allow printing from the iPad and iPhone.  Most printers are supported, but you really will not know if it will work until you try.
PrintCentral for iPad on the iTunes App Store
Please post in the support area if you need more help in that regard. We are not iPad and iPhone experts here.
