Airport Extreme Setup for Windows Remote Desktop

I have an AEBS with a Windows XP desktop connected to it via ethernet (I also connect my MacBook wirelessly).
I want to set it up so I can connect to my desktop remotely from work. I was able to do this using my old D-Link router but since I switched to the AEBS I can't connect. I am pretty sure I opened the correct ports in the router but I must have missed something.
Does anyone know if there is a step-by-step guide that can help me?

Here you go ...
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the host device.
Internet > DHCP tab
o On the DHCP tab, click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
o Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
o Reserve address by: MAC Address
o Click Continue.
o MAC Address: <enter the MAC (what Apple calls Ethernet ID if you are using wired or AirPort ID if wireless) hardware address of the host computer>
o IPv4 Address: <enter the desired IP address>
o Click Done.
2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
Advanced > Port Mapping tab
o Click the "+" (Add) button
o Service: <choose the appropriate service from the Service pop-up menu>
o Public UDP Port(s): <enter the appropriate UDP port values>
o Public TCP Port(s): <enter the appropriate TCP port values>
o Private IP Address: <enter the IP address of the host server>
o Private UDP Port(s): <enter the same as Public UDP Ports or your choice>
o Private TCP Port(s): <enter the same as Public TCP Ports or your choice>
o Click "Continue"

  • AirPort Extreme Drivers for Windows XP???

This may be a very silly question, but I've got a new Mac Pro that will be arriving in two days and I couldn't help but wonder, "How will the AirPort Extreme WiFi card be able to connect to the Internet when I'm running Windows XP from a separate hard drive using Boot Camp?
The Internet connection in my apartment is wireless only (coming from a router upstairs in my landlord's part of the house). Are there any AirPort Extreme drivers for Windows XP? If so, I have not been able to find anything online.
Any suggestions on how to do this?
    Thanks,
    ~Greg

    Thanks for the info Stefan,
However, I don't think that the Macintosh driver CD will do me any good in this case because I am not planning on running the 32 bit version of Windows XP. I will be installing XP64 tomorrow once my CD arrives in the mail.
I've heard of quite a few people who are currently running XP64 on their Mac Pro's, but I'm also pretty sure that the driver CD created by Boot Camp will only work in Windows XP 32-bit.
If ANYONE knows of a work around for installing macintosh drivers for my super drive and airport extreme, PLEASE let me know, because I will most certainly need to be able to use my wireless card and keyboard (especially for the CD tray)
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Download Airport Extreme Software for Windows?

I am trying to find the windows software that comes on the CD for an Airport Extreme. (Attempting to help my Mom get her existing Airport Extreme w/ USB drive hooked up to her new windows laptop - the 802.11 connection is fine)
Where the bloody **** is this software!? I've wasted hours on this support site looking for the basic install software. I've found the 5 year old airport admin software and lots of firmware updates. But I just want whatever comes on the CD so my mom will get the system tray icon that allows her to map the USB drive from the airport (the ability to manage the airport wouldn't hurt either).
If you know where it is, please post a link. If apple only releases it on CD (which would be ridiculous) please put up a page that says so on your support site.

  • Create a 1-click setup for a Remote Desktop session for non-tech users

    Hi everyone,
I know how to configure a VPN or use port forwarding for VNC, ARD, etc. and know about iChat's Screen Sharing feature and sites like LogMeIn. But I'm looking for something special here. This is the situation:
    • A user calls me for help and I would prefer a Remote Desktop session
    • He's usually behind a NAT router which hasn't been set up to allow remote access
    • He's absolutely NOT tech savy
So I'd like to have an easy way to allow me to initiate a Remote Desktop session (ARD/VNC) with as little user interaction needed as possible. I don't want to walk him through reconfiguring his router on the phone!
I was thinking of using iChat's Screen Sharing first. But I'd need to create a jabber account, save iChat's preference file, maybe pack it into a little "Installer" and mail it to him. So all he needs to do is double-click it and run iChat afterwards and accept me.
But this is a little too much for my taste and I'm wondering if there isn't already a "best practice" or something like that. Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks a lot!
    Björn

I've recently started using TeamViewer. If you can walk a person through going to http://www.teamviewer.com and clicking on "Start Full Version" and getting them to download it and run it, then you're good to go. It's cross-platform both ways so you can control a Mac from a PC and a PC from a Mac in addition to M-M and P-P. If they're on a PC, the download is an executable which when they double-click it, asks them if they'd like to run it or install it. Just have them run it and in a few seconds they will have an ID number and random password generated that they can tell you over the phone. Then you type it into your TeamViewer app and you're controlling their screen. If they're on a Mac, the download is a disk image so you have them mount it and then just run the app directly from the disk image. Once you're connected you can fully install the app for future use or just help them out. It's pretty much the simplest cross-platform control system I've found to deal with situations where it's not already setup for me to support. On top of all that, it's free for personal use!

  • Airport Extreme setup for a dummy - Hey could somebody take me through the setup as Im a crazy apple fan but not a geek.

I was very excited when I purchased an Airport extreme on the 2nd feb 2012. Tried it out and ended up screwing my existing wifi router as well. Had to reset my Huawei Home Gateway again and for the time being rest the Airport extreme back into its box. Appreciate if someone could take me step by step in connecting the extreme again!

1.What if I dont want to use Airport Extreme Base station as a Bridge - can I connect it directly to the cable from the jack on the wall ? thats from where I get the internet connection.
If the jack on the wall is directly connected back to your Huwaei gateway, then you will want to leave the AEBSn in bridge mode so that the Huwaei will provide both NAT & DHCP services for network clients connected to either router. However, you could reconfigure the AEBSn back to a router and, in this case, you will create a new subnet to the Huwaei's network. Network clients on each network subnet will not be able to "see" each other, but all will still be able to access the Internet.
    2. Currently the cable from the Jack goes through a splitter , which is also a modem , and two cables emerge one for the telephone and the other for the internet , which is connected to the Huwaei Home Gateway aand bridged to the Airport Extreme.
    3. Can I remove all these and connect the Airport extreme directly to the jack?
I know you would be thinking that instead asking just try it out, but then again ....
Is your Internet service, ADSL, DSL, or cable? Regardless, the AEBSn does not have a built-in modem and one will still be required between the jack and the AEBSn.
    4. Cable: I realised that during Bridging I had to use a CAT.5 cable, if I used the standard cables( those thin ones that come as a standard from the internet provider)  Airport extreme doesnt recognise the connection.
CAT-5 is a type of Ethernet cable. The AEBSn must be connected to an Internet modem or another router upstream of it using Ethernet.

  • How do i install airport extreme on a windows pc and route it to another windows desktop?

How do I install airport extreme into a windows desktop pc and then successfully route it to another windows desktop?

The AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) is an Internet router that supports both wired and wireless network clients. You can connect both of your desktop, using either media, to the AEBS for network connectivity.

  • Windows Server 2012 The licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured

    Hi
I have a standard Windows Server 2012 that is hosted in the cloud by a hosting provider -
This server has been up and running fir 6 months - recently we have been getting a warning
"The licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured" - The Remote Desktop Session Host server is within its grace period, but the RD Session Host server has not been configured with any license server.
Yet, we only use this with 2 connections as part of the standard licence agreement and this server is not used as a user's desktop only an ftp and web server- do therefore we do not need to purchase any cal licences (we have another server with the same
hosting company that does not have this issue and has been up for 18months)
Please can someone advise how I resolve this issue, the hosting company states that I must resolve it as they only host and resell the server licence
    Thank-you
    Richard Steele

    Hi Richard,
You need to uninstall Remote desktop session host feature. After removing it, you will default two connections which does not need to purchase RD CALs'.

The only errors that I've encountered when performing installs over remote desktop were to do with the Oracle installer not finishing correctly.  This was particularly evident in oracle 9.2 and I have had no issues with 10g as yet.

  • Airport Extreme USB Printer Windows 8

    Hello everyone,
I have an Airport Extreme.  My HP P1006 printer is plugged directly into the Airport Extreme.  My desktop PC running Windows 8 is also plugged into the Airport Extreme via ethernet cable.  When I try to print to the HP P1006 it does not work.  I have tried installing Bonjour Printer support to no avail, it usually crashes.  I have a Macbook Pro and a Dell laptop running Windows 7 that both print remotely over the Wifi network.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks for your time.
    Neel

You need to keep working on installing bonjour as the print services are not going to work easily without it.
Have a go loading it in safe mode.. I am not sure.. but it is always worth trying.
Is the win8 computer setup for windows home group? That might cause issues. You might need to stop the home group, get the bonjour services installed and then try again with it. With or without homegroup working.
Network printer via the Extreme could be offered direct to the network. I am just not sure how to access it without bonjour.

  • BI Publisher Desktop install on Windows remote desktop

    Hi all,
Is there any way to install BI Publisher Desktop on windows remote desktop (terminal services)?
If I install this currently as one user, the other user can not access (despite having all the correct security settings). The real issue is I think with MS Office because the Add-in is not seen by other users. But I have no idea how to go about solving this issue.
    Thanks.
    Px.

There is an Oracle support document [468953.1] that suggests that each user run the installer on a shared machine. This advice doesn't actually work as the second user who attempts to install it on a machine will only be presented with the option to uninstall it.
Just today with the help of ProcessMonitor I have figured out how to deliver it to all users. Note that my setup is Office 2003. The below instructions may need alteration for other versions or may not work at all.
After you have installed BI Publisher Desktop copy the TemplateBuilder.dot file found in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[installing_user_name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP
    to
    C:\program files\microsoft office\OFFICE11\STARTUP
This will cause the TemplateBuilder word template to launch at startup for all users and deliver the "Oracle BI Publisher" menu item and BIP toolbar.
Hope this helps. If you are using a version of Word other than 2003 and need to modify the procedure please post any required changes on this thread. I would like to assemble a procedure for all supported versions of Word.

  • The grace period for the Remote Desktop Session Host server has expired

<p>I'm running Windows Server 2012, we only have 1 server and it's a DC.  I'm trying to RD to the server from my Windows 7 laptop. It was working fine on Friday but when I came in on Monday I got message saying that 'The remote session was disconnnected
because there are no Remote Desktop License Servers available to provide a license'
So after a bit of digging I found out my 'grace period' had expired, so ordered a new license which I got today, installed this all ok but still i cannot connect via RD I get the same message....went into the RD License Diagnoser and it said the problem
    was as follows
'The grace period for the Remote Desktop Session Host server has expired, but the RD Session Host server has not been configured with any license servers. Connections to the RD Session Host server will be denied unless a license server is configured for
    the RD Session Host server.'
    Suggested Resolution as follows
Configure a license server for the Remote Desktop Session Host server. If you have an existing license server, specify that license server for the RD Session Host Server. Otherwise, install RD Licensing on a computer on your network and Configure RD Session
    Host Server to use it.'
I cannot figure out how to do this as I cannot find the RD Session Host Server tool.
Can any of you lovely people help me please

    Hello,
Best option would be to assign the license server by using AD GPO. Youl will need to configure the following:
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Licensing
    and define the settings for:
Use the specified Remote Desktop License Server
Set the Remote Desktop Licensing mode
Then assign the policy tho your server.

  • Sharing local devices with remote computers like in Windows Remote Desktop

    Morning all,
I'm attempting to access my local machine's CD drive on the remote computer across Apple Remote Desktop. It's ubiquitously possible even in the Windows Remote Desktop Client for OS X but for the life of me can't figure out how to share my drive over the network with a remote client.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

By Remote Desktop, I literally meant from the remote computer. So let me rephrase..
After I've enabled CD/DVD sharing, while I'm in Apple Remote Desktop controlling the remote computer, can I access my CD/DVD drive remotely?
Or to be even clearer, could a remote user on that machine access my CD/DVD drive and how?
