Airport extreme slow blinking amber light.  Can't see through airport utility.

Unsuccesful trying to reset.  On a hard reset, it still goes from steady amber to slow blinking amber.  Never get a rapid blinking amber light.  Have tried to connect directly to it via ethernet and airport utility doesn't see it.  Any help?

I have this same issue. Internet works, I can connect to it, but i doesn't show in the Airport Utility. Also, it doesn't let me connect to other computers or my AirDIsk. I am using 10.5. Unplug and plugin style reset fixes it...for a while. Any ideas anyone?

What kind of AEXT are you using?

  • Airport Extreme Shows SOLID Amber light only after Powerup

This is a relatively new Airport Extreme (802.11n), bought from the Apple store. This morning, all of a sudden I had no internet access. I finally determined that it wasn't the cable or the modem, but the base station.
I have tried powering it down (unplugging it from the back) and even leaving it powered down for up to five minutes. When I plug it back in, it shows green, blinks once and then shows solid Amber.
Solid Amber is supposed to mean that it's starting up. Airport Utility does not recognize the base station at all. I've tried a hard reset, but it seems to have no effect. No blinking light or anything.
    Am I screwed?

    Bummer.
Make sure you turn off the Airport card when you hook up to it with Ethernet.
There's a small reset button on the back that you should hold down with a paperclip or pen. Restart and see if that clears it.
If that doesn't work, it looks like you need to take it to the nearest Apple store

  • Blinking amber light, cannot update firmware on Airport Express

    Hey all:
I can't find a prior question that addresses this problem exactly.
A couple of weeks ago (about the time that AE Firmware was updated to 7.4.1) my AE started blinking amber. I was concurrently getting alerts that Airport Utility was finding a problem with my Airport Extreme, that it needed to have the firmware updated to the new version.
When I try and update the firmware, though, the progress bar just zips along with nothing coming down. I can't get the update.
This seems to have NO effect on my internet use, including three household computers connecting to the internet or to each other. I'm fine - but a little concerned.
I tried to reset things manually, thinking if I start from scratch and basically reinstall the unit that would help, but it just kinds of spins its wheels and doesn't actually go into into settings windows.
    Ideas???
    Thanks much in advance
    Carlos

You post may have more answers if posted in the airport section of the forum. That being said I would suggest you open airport utility select your base station and then from the base station menu choose restore default settings. Then try updating the firmware.

  • Airport Extreme works fine but I can't see it in Airport Utility

Have seen numerous posts on this issue but no solutions!
I have a MB Pro running 10.4.11, Airport Extreme and Airport Utility 5.2.1. The Airport Extreme works perfectly, with no connection issues, but I cannot see it anymore in Airport Utility. I have another Airport Express hooked up to my stereo (for airtunes only), and can see this in Airport Utility, but not the Extreme. The Extreme used to appear here, but no more. Otherwise works fine. Just need to be able to reconfigure it.
Anyone know what the fix is????

  • Airport Express won't connect to network, blinking amber light, and "unexpected error occurred."

I have two aiport expresses - both have the problem.  Both continue to have a blinking amber light, when I go through all the setup activities, after completing the factory reset multiple times, I simply get "An unexpected error occurred."
In fact after I do this, my laptop has issues connecting to the network.  I have Verizon Fios, not sure if that means anything.
Haven't seen this covered in any of the troubleshooting materials; they just keep going to factory reset to solve all problems, which I've done several times with each device to the same end.
    Any ideas?

Hi - You can install 5.6 on Mountain Lion but it is tricky - here are instructions from a post by guru Bob Timmons -
The workaround is to use a utility like Pacifist to manually extract the application and then manually install it in the Utilities folder - see this link:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167965/mountain_lion_and_the_ancient_airport_ba se_station.html
Another workaround....if you have Time Machine backups.....is to back in time to locate AirPort Utility 5.6 and restore it to the desktop. Then drag it into the Utilities folder.

  • Airport Extreme missing, blinking yellow

I'm in the middle of setting up my AEBS, when suddenly it dissapeared from the Airport Utility scan.  Now I only have a blinking yellow light, and no base station to choose (or configure).  I've powered down, and resent via the reset button on the back of the AEBS.  Still no base station in Utility.  How do I "see"my base station again????

When the AirPort Extreme (AEBS) goes missing, try an Ethernet cable connection from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AEBS to establish a direct connection, rather than wireless....which can be problematic
You may need to perform a Factory Default Reset again to get things back to a starting point again.
    To do that....
Pull the power plug from the back of the AEBS
    Wait a moment or two
Hold in the reset button and continue to hold it in an additional 8-10 seconds while you plug the power back in to the AEBS
Release the reset button and allow 25--30 seconds for the AEBS to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
You can keep the Ethernet cable connected to the AEBS until you have it updated with new settings, then you can remove it if you wish
Post back if you need a few more setup tips

  • MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

The MIFI4620LE Jetpack does not work without a battery installed, even when connected to an external power supply.
I personally think that was a dumb design. I would think the unit would use more electricity when continually charging the battery than just powering the unit it's self, but that's the way Novatel made them.
If your Jetpack works with the battery installed and connected to an external power supply, but does not power on with power supply disconnected, I would say that the battery is defective or worn out.
You should be able to go to a nearby Verizon Store and have them either test the battery or put a new one in it to see if it works. Then you will know if you need to spend the $$ for a new battery. OR if you always use your Jetpack at home, or in your car, just use the old battery connect to a power supply or your cigarette lighter and save the cash.
As the Customer Support person stated, the slow blinking amber light is a normal state when the Jetpack is turned on and connected to Verizon's service.
I hope this solves your problem.

  • Constant blinking amber light

Just got the Airport Express, and am trying to transition over from Linksys.  I have a constant blinking amber light and its saying that Airport Express cant find the base station.  Any help is much appreciated.

If you are replacing the Linksys with the new AirPort Express, I would suggest that you start by performing a complete power recycle of all of your networking hardware. Please check out the following AirPort User tip for details.

  • HT4259 This article is outdated (as well as others). I have Airport Extreme (latest) and Time Capsule (earlier version) and newest Airport Utility version.

I have difficulty in setting up the newest Airport Extreme with Time Capsule. How to wire Time Capsule over ethernet is so confusing and the documentation I found is outdated.

    OK, thanks for the clarification.
Disconnect the Ethernet cable if it is plugged into the Time Capsule at this time.
With the Time Capsule powered on, hold in the reset button on the back of the device for 9-10 seconds and then release. Allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
This will not affect any backups that you might have already stored on the Time Capsule.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the Time Capsule. I assume that you have tested the Ethernet cable independently to make sure that it is working correctly.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click directly on Time Capsule.  The screenshot below shows an AirPort Express.....you will see Time Capsule on your screen.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically and take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the Time Capsule will be configured to extend the AirPort Extreme network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the Time Capsule. You can use the same name that you used before, then click Next.
Now AirPort Setup will indicate that the Time Capsule is being configured to extend using Ethernet. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.  That's it.

The Utility transferred all of the AE's settings, so I still have to change the password, which leaves me with only 2 other questions, I think:
    1)  I assume it's just a matter of using the Utility, entering a stronger password and checking for it to be remembered in Keychain Access.  But do I have to  change the password for each individual unit-- the TC, the Extreme and both Expresses-- or will changing it just for the TC alone work for the entire network?
Resetting the password you will need to do for each device... the utility cannot even see those old units.
So you will have to do it for each one.. think it through.. because as you change passwords the others will lose connection.. so start from the express which are wireless extending .. change those first.. and go back up the chain.. as each one changes it will drop off the network.. until you reach extreme and change that. Then you might need to reboot the whole network to get everything talking again. If something goes wrong.. just pluck that one out of the mix and plug in ethernet.. reset and redo the setup. That is my preferred method anyway.. do everything in isolation one by one. By ethernet and then nothing goes wrong.
    2)  Who's the treasonous SOB who spilled the beans to you about the ICBM in my back yard?!?
    N.Korean hackers.
[Edit] Whoops-- one more question:  I want to partition the TC's disk, but Disk Utility doesn't see it.  What do I need to do?
You cannot partition a network disk. And apple provided no tools for it in the TC itself. You can pull the disk out and partition it but that voids your warranty. (although done with care who is to know).
    Look at Q3 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Mixing TM and data on the TC is worth planning carefully. They don't necessarily sit happily together.

  • Airport extreme blinking amber light error when connecting to new modem

I have just bought and installed a new modem gateway.  It is an Arris TG852G DOC 3.0 model with a built in WiFi router.
After connecting it and activating it through Comcast, I reset, then reconnected my airport extreme MD0331LL/A Model No. A1408 to the new Arris
modem, I am getting blinking amber lights on the base station.  I have internet connectivity, but I am still getting an amber light.  My wireless devices (ipad and iphones) all see the old network name and id and seem to work just fine.
When I scanned for my airport base station in my airport utility (version 5.6.1)  to try to resolve the error message I get
a message stating that the Airport Utility is not detecting any airport devices.
I cannot reset the default settings as these buttons do not work within the Airport Utility.
I suspect interference between the built in router in the Arris and I understand I need to operate it in bridge mode.  Can you please help me fix this.
The COMCAST people are extremely unhelpful, and stated that this is not their problem but a problem with my router
as they have provifded me  internet connectivity through the modem and the issue is my problem.

Try connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if AirPort Utility can detect the AirPort Extreme that way.
If yes, click on the AirPort Extreme and then click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)
A window will open to explain why the amber light is blinking
If the message indicates that you need to configure the AirPort in Bridge Mode......
Click the Internet icon at the top of the window
Click the Internet Connection tab just below
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save the new setting and restart the AirPort Extreme
You can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you were using to configure the AirPort Extreme now
It would be a good idea to power off both the Arris gateway and the AirPort Extreme now
    Wait a minute
Start the Arris first, and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    You should be all set

  • Airport not "recognizing" network - blinking amber light

I just got a new Airport Express. I plugged it in hooked up the ethernet cable to it and all I get is the blinking amber light.
I thought it might need the Cable modem restarted so I did that. Nothing.
I thought it might be an issue with my Vonage adapter. I rebooted that. Nothing.
I bypassed the Vonage completely by directly going from cable modem to Airport Express. Nothing.
I've tried everything but it isn't working.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.33mHz 14.1" 768ram 60gb HD

Any time when you reset you have to do it in a specific order to make it work correctly.
The normal reset sequence is to Pull the power adapter from the ISP's Modem and then your Airport Express or Extreme and shut your computer clear off.and next you wait for everything to reset to default settings. (Normally 5 minutes). After your wait you have to plug in the Modem first, wait until it re acquires the signal and all the lights (normally 3) depending on the modem you have. Next Plug in your express or Extreme and again you have to wait a minute and then you can restart your computer.
Be sure before you start the sequence you have the correct setting in System preferences and Network to Airport. and drag it to the top of the list and it has to be highlighted with the little green dot,and be sure you go up to the icon next to your HELP for signal strength and make sure your Airport is ON.
And last welcome to the discussions
    Cheers Don

trying to resolve a blinking amber light on my Time Capsule. The problem is i don't see the airport utilities under Apps/Utilities to try and reset..any ideas?

AirPort Utility should be here:  Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
If it is not there, you can download it from here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport
Temporarily, connect an Etherent cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the back of the Time Capsule
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line) and a window will open to explain why the Time Capsule is complaining along with suggested actions to remedy the issue

  • Airport extreme continuously blinks orange, it is an older model not used for some time. airport utility can see it but just reports an unexpected error message.

My airport extreme continuously blinks orange. I have tried unplugging and starting again also pressing the reset button to no avail. It shows as connected to the internet but when selected in airport utility I just receive the message "unexpected error occurred try again" and I can't get past this point. any ideas?

Do a factory reset .. nothing will be deleted from your backups and you will be able to get access to them again.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
