Airport Extreme software

Is the software cd which comes with the Airport Extreme card necessary for its installation/functioning? My cd broke in the process of moving, and so I've not yet installed the card. Is the software available on the Apple website, or is it somehow possible to get another cd?

There is an Airport program on the CD, an Airport Setup Assistant program, an Airport Administration Program, as well as a useful Airport "tutorial" PDF file on the CD. Yes, I think you'll need them!
You can check if they are available for downloading by going to the Download link at the top of this page and looking for an Airport link or else use the search engine.

  • Problems After Updating Airport Extreme Software & Firmware

Lost wireless connection to my printer while attempting printing from either desktop or laptop & when I tried to re-establish/update the wireless settings, I received message that new versions of software & firmware were available for my Airport Extreme. After I downloaded & installed both of these, I could no longer connect at all to the Airport Extreme. When I used the Airport Assistant to try to solve problems, it said airport was out of range. Also only got flashing amber light on Airport Extreme no matter how many times I tried to reset it and DSL modem (went through complete re-connect/re-install of both Airport Extreme and DSL modem hardware). I switched to an extra Airport Express I have and now everything is backing working again. Any known problems with either the latest Airport Extreme software (Airport Utility 5.3.2) or firmware (version 7.3.2 I think)?

Firstly, on the Mac you use to configure the AEB, Repair Permissions - /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app. Start Disk Utility, select your HD and click on Repair Permissions. When finished, quit Disk Utility and then restart your computer.
I see you are using 10.4.11, so the steps in Part B may be a little different (this is for 10.5.x).
Use this procedure to setup your network again:
    A. Setup the 'Main' Base Station
    1. Do a factory reset of your AEB (main), then turnoff the DSL Modem and the AEB (main) - leave off for at least 5 minutes to allow servers to reset.
    2. Check that ethernet cables are connected properly:
    - DSL Modem > AEB (main) WAN port;
    - AEB (main) ethernet port > Mac computer running OS X 10.5.x.
    3. Power-on DSL Modem and wait for it to initialise.
    4. Power-on the AEB (main) and start your Mac computer.
    5. Open AirPort Utility and select the AEB (main) in the LH pane. Click 'Continue' and give the AEB (main) a name and an admin password (twice). Click 'Continue'.
    6. Select 'I don't have a wireless network and I want to create one', click Continue.
    7. Give your network a name, select WPA/WPA2 Personal and insert the wireless network password (twice) - use 13 alpha/numeric characters for password. Tick 'Remember this password in my keychain'. Click 'Continue'.
    8. Select 'I connect to the Internet with a DSL or cable modem using DHCP'. Click 'Continue'.
    9. Click 'Update' and wait for the AEB (main) to restart.
    10. Disconnect the ethernet cable between your Mac and the AEB (main).
    B. Setup Client computer
    1. Open System Preferences/Network/AirPort.
    2. Against 'Network Name:' select your network (the name you gave it at A7).
    3. Click 'Advanced' and select TCP/IP. Against 'Configure IPv4:' select 'Using DHCP', then click 'OK'.
    4. Click 'Apply' and exit System Preferences.

  • Airport extreme software will not install on vista, how can i still configure the router?

airport extreme software will not install on vista, how can i still configure the router?  Trying to help someone with vista get an airpot extreme configured.  10.0.1.1 does not work, the software will not install correctly on their vista machine.  How can I get into the base tation and lock it down?

Hi - Vista can be tricky - I need more info to see if I can be of some help - first, is the Vista machine a desktop or a laptop and is it fully up to date with Windows Update (sp2 or higher)? - next, are you trying to install Airport Utility version 5.5.3 which is the correct one for Vista? - and finally, what do you mean "it will not install" - what kind of error messages or evidence are you getting?

  • Safely uninstall Airport Extreme software in order to do a reinstall ?

I've messed up my encryption so although I have connection between my iMac and my Airport Extreme, I cannot connect with the Internet via my cable modem. I've tried various approaches, but I think I could solve it by uninstalling the Airport Extreme software and reinstalling it again-- does this seem feasible? If so, do I simply drag the icons out of Utilities and dump them in Trash?

The state of your wireless encryption is unrelated to the problem of the AEBS(n) being unable to communicate with your cable modem. No need to try to uninstall anything; besides, all you can easily uninstall is the Airport Utility by dragging it to the trash.
Use Airport Utility to check that you have properly configured the AEBS(n) Internet connection. For a cable modem, this is usually like this:
    Connect using: Ethernet
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
Connection sharing: Share a public IP address
What do you see on this panel for your Internet IP Address?
If the settings are OK, then power off both the AEBS and your cable modem for perhaps 10 minutes, then power up the cable modem, finally the AEBS

  • I need help putting Airport Extreme software on my Mac

I have an Airport Extreme, with software loaded on a PC.  What do I need to down load to get Airport Extreme software on my new Mac.  The software (on a  disk) that came with the Airport Extreme will not work with Lion.  I have to believe that this question has been asked before.  If so, please point me in the right direction.  Thanks for any help.  bhjohnston (Easey, SC) 11DEC2011

You likely already have the AirPort Utility application on your new Mac.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
AirPort Utillity 5.5.3 is the current version
If for some reason, you do not have it, you can download it from here:

  • Old Airport Extreme software.

    Hi All,
I have an old Airport Extreme Base Station which is not compatible with the currect AEBS software so I am looking for software that will support this AEBS.   Anyone any ideas where I can obtain this.   It is not available on any of the Apple web sites.
    Many thanks
    Roger

I have an old Airport Extreme Base Station
If by "old", you mean that you have a "round" or dome" shaped AirPort Extreme.....the most recent version of firmware that will work with this product was made available 8+ years ago.
There have been no updates offered for the older AirPort Extreme model since 2006.
That version of firmware.....which you may already have installed on the AirPort.....is version 5.7.
AirPort Extreme Firmware Update 5.7 for Mac OS X - Support - Apple
which is not compatible with the currect AEBS software so I am looking for software that will support this AEBS.
Apple dropped support for the older AirPorts when they introduced the version 6 of AirPort Utility in the Lion operating system a few years ago.
If you have a Mac running Leopard (10.5.x), Snow Leopard (10.6.x), or a PC, you can use AirPort Utility on one of those products to administer the older AirPort Extreme that you have.

  • Cannot install Airport Extreme software on my HD

I bought an Airport Extreme unit from someone who had it for quite some time but never used it--opened the software and tried to install on my iMac G5 HD.
It will go no further than the destination volume--when I tried to install I got this message:
You cannot install Airport on this volume.
This update requires Mac OS X v10.1 before this software can be installed..
So I tried installing all the listed updates and still no luck. Any suggestions?
How am I supposed to go backwards to install old software versions just to update to current status?
I would greatly appreciate the help!.....

    Duane..
Gosh, that is good news! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question and help me..I DO appreciate it!

  • Download Airport Extreme Software for Windows?

I am trying to find the windows software that comes on the CD for an Airport Extreme. (Attempting to help my Mom get her existing Airport Extreme w/ USB drive hooked up to her new windows laptop - the 802.11 connection is fine)
Where the bloody **** is this software!? I've wasted hours on this support site looking for the basic install software. I've found the 5 year old airport admin software and lots of firmware updates. But I just want whatever comes on the CD so my mom will get the system tray icon that allows her to map the USB drive from the airport (the ability to manage the airport wouldn't hurt either).
If you know where it is, please post a link. If apple only releases it on CD (which would be ridiculous) please put up a page that says so on your support site.

Hello treyguinn. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!

  • My Airport extreme software will not load on my Macbook hardisk

When I try instaling the Airport Utiliy software I get an error msg that says...the vesrion of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported.  Not sure what to do.

The current version of AirPort Utility will run on Macs that are using the Leopard, Snow Leopard, or Lion operating systems.
If you are still running on Tiger 10.4.11....as your post indicates.....you could try to download and install an earlier version of AirPort Utility. No guarantees, but worth a try.

  • How can I download airport extreme software on new windows 8 computer?

How can I download airport express software on new Win8 computer?  keep getting error message saying that I need Win7 or newer.

AirPort Express needs AirPort Utility 5.6.1 for Windows.

If that won't run on Windows 8, then you best call Apple Support.....or borrow an iPhone or iPad for a few minutes to set up the Express.

  • AirPort Extreme Software Update

I updated my AirPort to the latest software today. After restarting my computer the connection worked fine. However, when I tried to change channels (manually or by clicking continue) I get an error message. The message says "An error occurred while reading the configuration, ensure the device is plugged in and your computer is within range and try again."
I rebooted several times but cannot get to the point to change channels. Any ideas?

Go to the Apple menu and select Software Update. That will properly find all the possible updates.

  • Is there anywhere to download original Airport Extreme software?

I need to download both Windows and Mac versions of the software that was on the (since lost) original CD-ROM that accompanied my Airport Express.
I have perused this forum, but haven't seen a definitive answer yet - and I can't seem to find anything on Apple.com downloads for AE except for updates (requiring the original software be installed).
The has nothing to do with the "n" enabler .. just simply need to reinstall this software to use an AE that I had misplaced for about 1.5 years.
    Thanks!

Although it says it is an update I'm pretty sure it will install what you need without being there before. It may require you have an Airport card installed.

  • Software for mighty mouse, airport extreme won't load?

My old mouse won't work with mini. Mighty Mouse and Airport Extreme Software won't load (Macintosh HD 74.4 GB, 64.06 GB Free).
Mighty mouse is connected, but wont let me do what I need.
I want to use mini to surf net, manage ipod, email. I was assured at Apple store that I was buying a more powerful competer than my needs.
How do I get this thing to work properly?
    TX

When did you buy your Mini ? Has it got Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) on it ? Most of the Mighty Mouse's functions will only work under Tiger ...
What do you mean by "Mighty Mouse and Airport Extreme Software won't load" ? Your post is very unclear and we need more information in order to help you. Does it give an error message ?
You might try to open Disk Utility (located under Applications > Utilities) and repair your hard drive's permissions (simply highlight Macintosh HD, and then click on "Repair Disk Permissions"), and then try to install the software.
I don't think you need to install anything to use AirPort Extreme, the software is preloaded, but since not all Minis come with AirPort as standard, the "backup" disk comes separately from the main Install Disc. Or is it software for the AirPort Extreme Base Station ?
Another question : is it your first experience with OS X / the Mac platform ?

  • How to Install Airport Extreme Utility Software on MacBook Air

Here's my dilemma: I have an iMac G5 which I use with Remote Disk to install software on my MacBook Air. But when I try to use my new Airport Extreme install disk, I get an error telling me the software cannot be installed over a network. If I try copying the package, I just get an alias (and the original can't be found: voodoo!).
How do I get the Airport Extreme software on my MacBook Air???? Why is there no download link provided?
    Any help gratefully received.

    Here's one:

That version (5.4.2) won't work with the very latest AirPort Extreme or Time Capsule units, which need version 5.5.
