AirPort Extreme Supports iPad4 and iPad Mini dual WiFi?

Is my understanding correct that the AirPort Extreme fully supports the dual-antenna/dual-band 802.11n capability of the iPad4 andiPad Mini?

Yes it does.

And Apple won't tell you. All they will tell you is what countries are supported for LTE right now. You can express your interest to Apple via their feedback pages, if you wish:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
but you will not receive a reply. It may be waiting on Telcel to approve. They may not feel that their LTE network is robust enough to handle that much load yet. But I'm just guessing. We'll just have to wait and see what develops.

  • Airport express causes iphone and ipad to lose wifi

We have a new (3 months old) Airport Extreme in our house.  It provides internet connectivity for an iMac, macbook pro, iphone 3gs, and ipad 2 (and a pc).  Never had any problems.
Two days ago, I purchased an Airport Express to put downstairs, and wirelessly extend the wifi network.  Setup seemed to go smoothly, and all devices reported a stronger signal downstairs.  However, the iphone and ipad started behaving really strangely after an hour or so.  They kepy saying they couldn't connect to the network, and even when I selected the network, they kepy saying the password was incorrect (even though I typed it in 10 times).  I reset the network settings on the iphone, as well as powered it off and rebooted it to no avail. The only way I have been able to get things working again is to unplug the airport express; restore the airport extreme to its factory settings, and then re-set-up the network on the airport extreme from scratch.
After things were working again, I re-installed the Airport Express and configured it to wirelessly extend the network.  Same thing happened: everything was fine for an hour or so, and then the iphone and ipad lost wifi connectivity and wouldn't re-connect. Only way to fix it was again to unplug the airport express and wipe the airport extreme back to factory settings and rebuild the network from scratch.
Is anyone else having this issue?  I'd really love to use the Airport Express for its advertised functions of extending my wifi network (and streaming itunes on my stereo downstairs)-- but if it garbles or kills the ability for my iphone and ipad to use Wifi, that's unacceptable and it will be going back to the Apple store.
I should mention that as far as I am aware, I have the latest versions of ios running on the iphone and ipad, and the latest firmware updates for the airport extreme and airport express.
Has anyone dealt with this problem?
    Many thanks.

Problem solved, found Ninja10's post and was able to fix this problem. Thanks Ninja10!

  • Airport extreme base station and mac mini

I heard so many good things about the airport base station and decided to replace my lynx router with it , but I have had considerable problems. First, I found the base station only has 2 ports, the assumption is that it will be connected to a pc and all the other computers will be wireless. The mac mini I have came with no wireless device although the g4 I have goes. I asked tec support if I could an airport express card to the mini and supprisingly they didn't recommend it. To get around the problem I purchased the airport express with i tunes, it was my understanding this device allowed you to connect any eihernet device to a wirless airport extreme connection. But , its not working. I seem to have entered the wrong settings into the pc side and the mac mini side appears to be unrecognized by the mac min software or the base station software on the pc. Neither of these products are in expensive and I wonder if I made a major mistake. The Lynx is much easier and I can always go back to that , but I really don't want to. I would appreciate any positive answers to this problem.

The use the assistant to configure (from your existing wireless network) the Airport Express to join and extend your existing wireless network.
This will configure the AX as a WDS node, which enables the ethernet port.

  • New Airport Extreme support usb2 and MF Printer?

    Welcome to the discussions, Mike!
I assume that you have the AirPort Extreme setup as your main wireless router, correct?
If yes, you should first check to make sure that the printer is joining the wireless network and receiving a correct IP address. You will need to locate the MAC address of your printer. It's usually located on a label on the back or bottom of the device. Jot that number down.
    To perform this check:
    Open AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click on "Wireless Clients" near the bottom of the summary page
A list of connected devices with their MAC address (or AirPort ID in the case of Mac products) will be displayed. Do you see the MAC address of your printer listed here?
If not, I'm sure you feel that you have entered the correct configuration settings for your printer, but unfortunately, that's not the case. You'll need to check your printer setup again to enter the correct settings for the printer to join the wireless network. It's almost always a question of finding a compatible wireless security setting in cases like this.
Open AirPort Utility again and click Manual Setup
This time, click on "Wireless Security" to identify the type of security that the AirPort Extreme is using. The printer settings must match up exactly with the AirPort Extreme settings.
    Post back on your findings.

  • Using several Airport Extremes to create and extend corporate + guest wifi

    hello all,
my office has purchased 6 airport extremes for our new office, AirPort Extreme 802.11ac (6th Generation), running version 7.73
the plan was to hard wire one extreme via the wan port and create both a corporate and guest network
then link to the others throughout the office by wirelessly extending to provide complete coverage
after moving around the location of one or two units my coverage is now complete across the office space
    my setup is as follows:
my network is a windows active directory setup where one of my domain controllers is my DHCP server in the range 192.168.x.x
to enable the guest network on my extremes i need to have my first hard wired (wan port) extreme unit configured in DHCP mode
this airport extreme has pulled down an ip address from my windows server in the range 192.168.x.x
the extreme then uses its own dhcp range to provide connectivity to my clients, 172.16.x.x for corporate wifi and 10.0.x.x for guest wifi
    my issue is
the dhcp range that the extreme uses for all my corporate wifi users is 172.16.x.x
i cannot access any servers on my windows network 192.168.x.x by drive maps/hostnames as they are challenged for authentication
I can only access by using ip addresses instead of hostnames
all of my shares and wired users are configured to use hostnames for file shares, printers etc on my servers
the first extreme gets its DNS info from my windows dhcp server correctly but these settings are not passed down to my wifi clients
is there a way to do this ?
I have tried using the 'domain name' field on the extreme dhcp config but this had made no difference
can anyone advise on this ?
do i need to use a different setup, maybe switch to wired config ?
what i'd like to have is the following:
2 wireless networks, one for corporate users and one for guests/visitors
my corporate users to have access to all my corporate servers as their permissions allow using hostnames for access
my guest users to have internet access only
my 6 access points to be connected to each other either wired or wirelessly to provide coverage throughout my office
i was told that the 6 airport extreme's would allow me to do this but now i'm not so sure
any help or suggestions would be gratefully accepted,
    thanks

You are trying to use Apple domestic products in a business setup.. this is not what they were designed for.
Could you use 3 units to cover the offices.. please have a go as this simplifies things tremendously.. just use three units in bridge.. preferably all connected to your ethernet network and so operating as AP only.
If that works then use the other 3 units for your guest network.. these should then be placed on a different vlan via your main managed switch.. so they can get internet but have no connection at all to the office network.. but other ways around it could be found. As you have already discovered a simple double NAT might sufficiently block guest access.

  • Does the Airport Extreme support HP cp1025?  There are two versions of the printer the cp1025 and cp1025nw.  I have the cp1025, and can't set it up. Is there a list of AE/bonjour supported printers?

Does the Airport Extreme support HP cp1025?  There are two versions of the printer the cp1025 and cp1025nw.  I have the cp1025, and can't set it up.
Is there a list of AE/bonjour supported printers?

Bonjour is a transport protocol. It also provides a means of advertising a printer on a network.
Any list that shows printers that support Bonjour is generally an indication that the printer itself supports this protocol, meaning that when it is connected to the network, you can see it in your default Add Printer browser. In the case of the Airport, it also supports the Bonjour protocol and will advertise any printer that is connected to its USB port. The printer itself does not have to support Bonjour. The Airport performs this function. And like many lists, they are not kept up to date because each vendor releases several new models every quarter or half year.
There are definitely printers that don't work when connected to the USB port of the Airport. And this is more that the printer driver does not support this type of connection, mainly due to the port not supporting bidirectional communications which some printer drivers require. The Canon UFR2 and CAPT drivers are a good example of this limitation. But this is only the Mac drivers. The Windows equivalent drivers work fine when the printer is connected to the USB port.
So with you having an issue with the Windows drivers then I don't think it is a case of them not supporting Bonjour but more to do with some other component not functioning when the printer is shared by the Airport. The error message appears to have more to do with local user rights which is probably driver related. I've seen some printers that you cannot use the Windows Add Printer wizard to add them. Instead you have to use the vendors utility because of some proprietary protocol being used. Maybe this is one of those?
Now that you seen how it should work based on when you used the C3188, if you still get that error message at point 6 of adding the C1025 then it would suggest a driver compatibility issue with the Airport - which is not necessarily a Bonjour compatibility issue. So unless there was another model of HP printer driver that you could use to this C1025 and that was also compatible with the USB port of the Airport Extreme, then I would suggest your best action is to replace the printer with a model that does work. Maybe even one that has builtin wireless so you don't have to use the USB port of the Airport.

  • How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n?

I have just purchased the new Airport Extreme (August 2014) because Apple's website states
    Simultaneous dual-band support.
AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. That means it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time. So no matter which band your wireless devices use, they’ll automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest possible performance.
I have number of Macs in my home from a new MacBook Pro with Mavericks to a Macbook Air with Snow Leopard (due to required software) and iPads.
So after setting up the new Extreme my new MacBook only accesses 11n as does my older Macs. I checked by holding down the option key while clicking the WiFi icon at the top of my Mac. Well, not so automatic then as I was expecting 11ac and 3 times faster access (as stated by Apple).
I then looked for some documentation for setting up but cannot find anything.
    Hence my question here.
How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
At present the new Extreme is no better than my previous 2 year old one.
    Thank you.
    Michael

How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
Assuming that it is operating correctly, 802.11ac and 802.11b/g/n are broadcast simultaneously by default.
That is advertising. The real information is usually found in the small and hard to read footnotes:
Based on theoretical peak speeds. Actual speeds will be lower.
AirPort Extreme is based on an IEEE 802.11ac draft specification. Performance based on comparison with Apple’s 802.11n products. Comparison assumes AirPort Extreme network with 802.11ac-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires a Wi‑Fi-enabled device. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
Since the 802.11ac signal is being broadcast only using the 5 GHz band, some users report that they have had better results by using the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band, and then pointing their Mac to that specific signal or network. You may want to try that option.
But first as a test, please locate the MacBook Pro about 10-15 feet or 3-4 meters from the AirPort Extreme with clear line-of-sight between the two devices. Restart both the AirPort Extreme and the Macbook Pro and then check to see if the Mac is connected to an 802.11ac signal.
If not, please power off your other wireless devices...computers, mobile devices, etc. temporarily, and try the same test again.
    Please report on your results.

  • Airport extreme supporting jumbo frames?

    Hello,
I need to debug a problem of web site access when jumbo frames are enabled. Do you know if Airport Extreme support them? I don't know exactly the generation of the base but its serial is C86FW5NJDM72.
    Regards.

The 5th generation AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) keeps the exact same revision of the mainboard (including the same SoC, 128MB of DDR2, 16MB flash, and GigE switch) as the 4th generation. What changed is that Apple designed the board to accommodate a new modular WLAN radio card. Instead of the Marvell 88W8366 WLAN of the 4th generation, the 5th generation 5 now has a dual Broadcom BCM4331-based configuration ... so the improvements would mainly be on the wireless side.

  • I just wanna buy a new iOS device and I'm confused between the iPod touch 5th generation, iPhone 4s 8GB, iPad 4th generation 16GB and iPad mini with the retina display 16GB model. Please help me figure out.

I have an iPhone 4s 16GB Model and I've been using it for about more than an year now. The reason I wanna get a new iOS device is because my 4s has got lots of scratches now and it's ambient light sensor seems not to work properly. Apparently, another reason is that the iLife and iWork suit are not free for me as my device is older and new devices get those softwares for free.
I thought to go with a new iPhone 4s again but the problem is that new 4s come with only 8GB of storage and they don't support AirDrop. So next, I thought to go with an iPod touch 5th gen because of its jaw-dropping design, bigger screen, more storage and AirDrop support. Because iPod touch is phone-less iPhone and they come at affordable price, I can also buy any cheap cell phone like moto e to replace my current iPhone 4S.
Another options that I thought a little bit on, is iPad 4th Gen and iPad mini with Retina display 16GB.
Now, should I just stick with my current 16GB iPhone 4s, or get a new one.
Or should I buy an iPod touch 5th gen and moto e (since iPod can't make phone calls)
Or should I go with one of the two iPad models that I aforementioned.
    Awaiting your valuable suggestions.
    Thank you!

Yes.....IF.....you use a powered USB hub.
I have had 3 printers connected at the same time in the past and assume that more would work as long you have a powered hub to support the number of ports that you need.
