Airport Extreme timeout on MacBook Pro 15

My Airport Extreme suddenly can't be accessed from my Mac Book Pro 5.1
I use 10.5.7 and have reset factory settings on the Extreme from my Ethernet wired iMac, plus Airport is useable by the other Mac at home via Airport. So the hardware/firmware Airport Extreme presumably is good.
To make it even more strange, the Mac Book Pro Airport function is OK at work where I can still connect! So prima-face all hardware is good.
On startup at home the Macbook Pro says None of my preferred networks are available, but it sees the neighbors network. If I go 'other', it shows my network and the password. Then one of two things happen:
I get timeout, or it 'appears' to log on BUT there is no browsing in Firefox or Safari.
Network status shows Airport with a green light, but Airport Settings as failed.
Done multiple resets, removed Airport Preferences and restarted. All in vain!
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem here. There are several other threads with this problem. For me, it is a range issue - doesn't work in my office, although my iphone and desktop work just fine.

  • Airport extreme compatible with MacBook Pro 15" 2.33 GHz ?

I just purchased a macbook pro and an airport extreme card to go with it. Now when I've researched it a little furhter I'm not sure if the airport extreme card will work with my new laptop. I received the card but am still waiting for the PC to arrive - anyone out there know if they're compatable with each other ? I've just switched from MS to Mac so I'm not all that familar with the hardware or op systems - thanks.

The bad news is that your Mac is NOT compatible with the AirPort Extreme card.
The good news is that your MacBook Pro has wireless ability built-in. MacBook Pro (Late 2006) - Technical Specifications

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n macbook pro

I have just set up time capsule and it works perfectly (painless process setting this up!) One query i have is re: AirPort Extreme 802.11n.
I have a macbook pro 2.16GHz core duo, and according to network utility i have Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g). I have attempted to update this but I get the message that my computer:
Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update.
Can i update or not? I have not restarted my comp since installing time capsule, would that maybe make a difference?

Sorry but "Core Duo" Macs do not have the 802.11n hardware.
Only "Core 2 Duo" Macs have the appropriate hardware.

  • Is it neccessary to buy an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme for my macbook pro to connect WI FI or wireless?

so I have a macbook pro, but i don't know whether i need to buy an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme to connect to WI FI or wireless.   or i only need to modem??
    HELP!!! :'(

Airport Extreme is used by Apple for its wireless routers and the hardware inside your MacBook Pro that is used to connect to a wired or wireless router. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort_Extreme#AirPort_Extreme_Base_Station
While Apple would like you to buy everything from them you can use any brand that will work with Macs. My setup is a Qwest DSL modem connected to a NetGear wireless router. The Airport Extreme card inside my MacBook recognizes them without any problems

  • Airport Extreme and 15" Macbook Pro (2006 - Intel)

I am having an issue with my MacBook Pro staying connected to my Internet. I am using an Airport Extreme and it is running the updated firmware. For some reason its also affecting my iPhone (3G), but not my new iMac. My iMac stays connected while the Internet connection for both the iPhone and MacBook Pro work for a little while and then just stop. If I unplug the airport extreme, they work again but only for a little while. I tried to reset the modem, but that has no effect (and besides the fact that the iMac remains connected to the Internet. Any ideas?

  • AirPort Extreme connects to MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPhone

Using the airport extreme, everything will connect and apps that require Internet connectivity will work, however, email apps on iPhone & MacBooks will not access server. Therefore, we cannot access our email on our phones or MacBooks. Any ideas what is causing this?

Chances are that if you can access all services via the Internet on all of your devices, except mail, then there is a good chance that either your ISP or your email provider is blocking you at their server. I would suggest starting with either of these two and verify that is not the case before any further troubleshooting of your local network.

  • Airport Extreme and early MacBook Pro

In reading the available text about the airport extreme, I see there's an 802.11n upgrade for machines with an Intel Core 2 Duo. My MBP has a Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo. Am I "n" capable?
    Thx.

Sorry, but no the Core Duo version of the MBPs can not be upgraded. If you require "n" capability, you will have to resort to a third-party solution, like the products offered by QuickerTek or Other World Computing (OWC).

  • Airport gets weak on macbook pro

All over the sudden my airport gets weak on macbook pro. Now I have to be very close to router to get steady connection. How to check if my AirPort is still ok and if is not, what should I do to make it better?

I gave up the airport. I have EnGenius installed. Everything works perfect. Internet is faster than ever (with the same router). I am getting more and more disappointed about Mac in general. During the past 4 years I changed battery twice, the power cable once and I cannot use my DVD drive at all for a year already. Now Airport. It never worked well anyway.
External things never get bad, it is always my MacBook Pro I have problems with.
Should I assume that if I had PC I would have more problems to deal with?
Now, I said that. I feel much better. Thanks for listening.

The airport card on my macbook pro is not functioning. In the airport firmware folder it says that it opens with final cut express. Is this the problem and how do i solve it?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".

  • Airport Extreme good for MacBooks, bad for iBooks

I run a school with several Airport Extremes. The MacBooks connect fine to the wireless network, the iBooks are disconnecting all the time.
    The AE log shows:
    Jan 12 09:00:04 Severity:5 Associated with station 00:23:12:7f:17:63
Jan 12 09:00:05 Severity:5 Installed unicast CCMP key for supplicant 00:23:12:7f:17:63
    Jan 12 09:00:48 Severity:5 Disassociated with station 00:23:12:7f:17:63
This happens all the time for all of the (20) iBooks. I just showed 1 example here.
On this particular computer I was setting up management with WorkGroup Manager. After restarting I do not get the list of users, as the iBook tells me that Network Accounts are unavailable. If I log in with a local account and log off I do get the network accounts.
Even if the students log in with a local account they experience difficulties saving to a network share.

Personally, I turned off the AT&T gateway wifi, because it wasn't very stable for me.  I also do a lot of home networking between devices, i.e. iPad to PC, iPhone to PC, (Remote desktop...I'm lazy), laptop.  And stream from my PC to my ATV, wireless printer...etc.  The AT&T gateware is a Wireless G (54 Mbps), at least mine is, and the AE is n (300 Mbps) and Extreme-ly (pun-intended) stable.  I have never had to reboot it to get my wireless working, which was a frequent frustration of my Uverse gateway and other wireless routers.
In short, the main benefit I have found is stability and communcaiton between devices on my internal home network.  Your Intenet connection is based on what you subsribe and pay for with AT&T, which sounds like 3 Mbps and this will not change unless you incraese your Intenet package with Uverse.
I also like the AE for the ability to enable an isolated guest network when I have family over.  There is a free iPhone app that you can download that was created by Apple to configure your AE from your phone.  I use the guest network with a separate password to hand out to guests versus giving them my main wireless SSID and password.  The guest network can also be configured to not allow guests to see or connect to any other devices on your intenrnal network, which is more secure.

But before you rush to change anything there be advised that it's better if you create a new username and transfer your users folder data files across rather than trying to edit the long and short usernames you set up initially.

  • Problems using my older AP Express with my new AP extreme on a macbook pro

Ok. I have set up and have been using for a month or so, an airport extreme with a new macbook pro. Recent happenings in my apartment have allowed me to expand from one room into the entire apartment and while the extreme has more than enough range for me to be online anywhere in the apartment, I would like to be able to use Airtunes by using my AP Express. That said, I can't seem to get it to work. Everytime I plug the AP express in, it rather quickly moves to flashing amber lights.
    I have tried:
Setting them up in the same room and in different rooms.
    Restarting the extreme and express
Airport Utility doesn't seem to recognize the express at all.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Try the following steps:
    1) Perform a factory reset on the AX. Hold the reset while plug the AX into an AC outlet , and hold the reset for 5 sec until the light flash green four times.
    2) Using a Ethernet cable and connect AX to your AEBX's LAN port.
    3) Now starts AP Utility, and follow the instructions below:

  • When turning Airport on it Freezes MacBook Pro

When turning on the Airport, my MacBook Pro freezes. The only way get out of it is to do a force shut down. After rebooting everything works fine, including turning off Airport. How do I correct this?
    Roman

I'd check by manually in the airport utility to make sure my setting are correct. I have two airport extreme N routers with two Express including 24/7 printing , two airtunes and x-box360 working. My network has been solid for two years. Recently we connected that x-box360 and had problems making it work. It works now but I did make mistakes when trouble shooting and noticed that anything I did when using any application that interfaced with those routers was either sputtering or seemed locked up. Once I corrected my network mistake all is back to normal.

  • None of the 3 iphones in the house will connect to my airport extreme, but my macbook and iMac will, no problem.  HELP!

HELP!  I have comcast using a Motorola Surfboard Modem, fairly new, 3 iPhones in the house - 2 4S, 1 4, an iMac, Macbook Pro and Airport Extreme.  The iMac and Macbook pro connects ot internet fine, but none of the iPhones will connect to the internet (though they do connect to the wifi singnal.  I've reset the AE, even to factory default but no luck....

I discovered the solution to the problem, hopefully it helps others with the same issue.Using the airport utility (sorry, i don't recall the procedure verbatim or have access to the utility right now for exact details) find where it lists settings for 2.4ghz and 5ghz, they are probably both set to "Automatic". Change the setting for 2.4ghz from automatic to one of the channel numbers, try a number 1 - 11. Update. You might have to disconnect and connect the wireless device from the network. It worked for me!

  • Airport extreme hates my macbook air

Hi all - Not sure if anybody has seen this but I saw a couple of posts that might be related. I have just set up an airport extreme 802.11n and am having tons of issues with my Macbook Air. I am having two primary problems. 1) If my Macbook Pro is on the network I am completely unable to get wireless access with my Macbook Air. If the Macbook pro is not on the network I can get wireless access just fine. I also have a Dell and an HP printer on the network - neither seems to cause any problems with the macbook air. 2) If my extreme is set to 802.11n only I cannot access the network at all with the Macbook Air - even if there are are no other devices on the network.
I think they might be related but can't figure it out. I have tried updating everything. I have downgraded to 7.3.1 on the extreme. I have made sure that the MB Air and MB Pro have the same settings. Nothing seems to work. I should also say that I have Verizon DSL service, a westell dsl modem and a Dlink router. The extreme is set to bridge only. I really don't want to go back to my old airport base station and really want to benefit from the 802.11n speeds. Anybody have any ideas or thoughts?
    Thanks

I had the same problem with my Airport Express 802.11n. Changing to g-standard made the trick for me. But it still ***** big time not being able to use the n-standard. Apple, fix this! PC-friends make fun of my fancy stuff!
