Airport Extreme to https websites

Via wifi, have no problem accessing the normal http websites and access is blocked to https websites. However no access problem to https websites using an ethernet cable. Looks like a problem with my Airport Extreme security setting. Thanks for your help. jim

Welcome to the discussions forum jim.
Why do you believe the the problem you're describing is related to your wireless security settings?
You're not really using Internet Explorer, are you? Use Safari or Firefox. I do not recommend Explorer, not for Macs, not for PCs, not ever.
I would also recommend using OpenDNS.

  • Can Airport Extreme log all websites?

I am a parent looking to monitor Internet usage for my family.  Ideally I would like the ability to log all URL's visited through the router and track problem sites to a specific device, date, and time.  I've read that some routers allow for this.  I've poked around a bit on my AE router, and although I see some logging functions, I'm not seeing a clear way to enable this sort of functionality.  Is this possible with Airport Extreme?  If yes, how?  If no, can anyone suggest a solution?  [Note, I'm not asking for parenting advice here, as some feel the need to offer this when such questions are posed.  Just looking for an answer to the technical question posed here.]  Thanks for any assistance.

The AirPort Extreme will not do what you want.
You might want to take a look at something like OpenDNS. The link is below:

If your kids have an iPhone or iPad, you can setup Parental Controls on each individual device using a passcode that only you will know.

  • Airport extreme base station with Hp 3210 all in one printer

Just bought and hooked up the above. Using with iBook G4. Still dealing with dial-up unfortunately, but got online just fine. When I tried to print on the above, it immediately dialed up when I hit "print". ?? What's going on?

I have a pretty old HP all-in-one (G55) printer/scanner/copier device. Plugging it into my AEBS seems to not let me print to it. I have the most recent driver from HP.
Do you think it's my setup, or is the AEBS somehow not compatible with the older HP devices?
No the problem is with the HP driver.
    Try using the HPIJS drivers.
For those with the older base station.
    Use the process outlined here:

Also, is it possible to fax, scan, etc through an all-in-one device plugged into an AEBS?
No, not via the USB port.
Can I scan using my all-in-one when it is connected to the USB port of an Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base Station?

  • New Airport Extreme (vs Dec 06 model - 54 Mbps)

Bought an Airport Extreme (54 Mbps) two months ago and only last week the new model (which is supposedly faster) has been released.
Yet apart from appearance, I can't see what the real difference is.
Q: is it worth returning the old Airport for the newer model? I only intend to run Apple TV and my laptop through the Airport.

  • Install of airport extreme card...

I have tried to install an airport extreme card in my iMac G4, but my computer will not power up with the card installed? But it starts up fine without the card in place. Is it the card or computer? The airport extreme card I have has the atenna connection to the side (not in the middle) on the end of the card.

    Hey Michele,
The airport extreme card I have has the atenna connection to the side (not in the middle) on the end of the card.
Well that sounds like an Airport Extreme Card:

  • Does iMac G5 (2005) support Airport Extreme?

I have an iMac G5 1.8GHz purchased on March 2, 2005. When I go to the Apple Store page for the Airport Extreme Card (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=C16 8B68E&fnode=home/shopmac/mac_accessories/airportwireless&nplm=M8881LL/A) it says:
"This AirPort Extreme Card is not compatible with the Mac Pro or the Power Mac G5 Dual and Power Mac G5 Quad computers introduced in October 2005."
Since my computer is a model prior to this, I'm wondering whether it is compatible with the Extreme card or not. How do I find out whether I can install an Airport Extreme Card in this model?
And second question, if I can't use an Airport Extreme Card, where can I find an old regular Airport Card that Apple no longer makes/sells?
    Thanks.

No worries. Your iMac G5 is compatible with the AirPort Extreme card.

  • AirPort Extreme/HP C4108 printer not connecting

My Extreme is working fine for internet connectivity, but when trying to print, during the time when a connection is attempting to be established, it always ends in "Print Job Stopped." I've gone back into the AirPort Utility and MAC printer utilities to verify that the HP C4100 series printer is listed. I've also unplugged and plugged back in the USB cable on the back of the printer and on the Base Station. Lastly, I've turned off and back on the printer. Nothing is working to solve the problem. Any solution forthcoming? One will be much appreciated.
    Thank you,

Need help to troubleshoot inability to print using a direct USB connection to a HP PSC750 printer. The PSC750 driver does not appear in the setup dialog. • Airport Extreme Card work fine on new Mac Pro (Early 2008)?

I was looking at this Airport Extreme Card ( http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=MTg 5Njg&fnode=home/shopmac/macaccessories/networking&nplm=M8881LL/A ). Is it simple enough to install? And does it work? I'm not a complete noob, and I have built my own PC before, but I'm wondering if there were any quirks when installing this since I'm fairly new with Mac Hardware.

You do not need to have the Extreme base station. It is possible to set up the Express to "share" the routers internet capabilities and provide it through the ethernet port thus to your computer.
You do however need to setup the Airport express to match some setting at the original base station(router). Unless your IT savvy, this could prove to be a hard task for the everyday user.
If your trying to sustain high transfer rates... wired is always the solution. I personally used a 100ft Cat-6 cable, wired up through my large apartment ceiling to give "connected" benefits to various electronics at the other end. And the cable costs less than 99 dollars
Your other option is to get what is called an extender.http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=23680 17&Sku=N100-2096&SRCCODE=GOOGLEBASE&CMP=OTC-GOOGLEBASE
This one here works on the G network, and is even a netgear product. This also costing less than the Express.
    Hope this helps

  • Cannot open/rename/use files on remote drive via Airport Extreme

Bit of a weird one this.
I've not used my remote drive - connected to the Airport Extreme base station - for some time. I often connect the drive directly to the Mac by USB just because it's quicker, then reconnect to the base station afterwards.
Today I tried and while it seemed to copy files OK from my desktop on to the remote drive, the files on the remote drive were missing the correct icons, would not open and I could not rename them or copy them back, e.g.:
    http://img.skitch.com/20091102-85c7x26ta9kr831ndjqrfhb2y3.gif
I looked at the drive info and it was showing 'No Access'. Tried changing that to Read/Write but it reset every time:
    http://img.skitch.com/20091102-gekciqehai1mf5eu3h779b44iw.gif
I also checked the disk settings in Airport utility, and it's set to secure with Airport Extreme Password:
    http://img.skitch.com/20091102-8djy7ehej684u2eg7sk1b7871n.gif
Can anyone tell me what permissions (presuming this is what it is) I need to change where, or what else I have to do to solve this. Without harming the existing data, of course!
    Thanks

You should set a password on the drive and not the device. Example: your AirPort Device Password will allow anyone that has the AirPort Utility to have access to your Device. There is an option, on the AirPort device, once you click on the hard drive, where you can set a password on the drive. That way you don't give out your administrative password of your device.
Device does not mean Hard Drive, it is your AirPort Device.

  • Airport Extreme will not auto connect after poewr out with USB Hub!

    Hi all,
I have just purchased the Airport Extreme and have it connected to my ADSL router. All works fine but if the airport looses power (as the household power went off momentarily today) then once it powers back up it will not connect to the internet unless I unplug the USB hub connected to it first.
    Anyone with similar experiences?

    No
Your issue may have something to do with your ADSL router and/or ISP carrier when you have power interruption.
I would contact Apple to take advantage of your free 90 days of tech support by phone since your product is "new." Let them tell you what the problem is.

  • AirPort Extreme failure to connect to certain websites

My AirPort Extreme suddenly failed to connect to certain websites that operate correctly.  The Safari returned the error "Bad Server Request", i.e., www.utteraccess.com.  Originally, I believe the website may be down for maintenance but tried several times with no avail.  I tried it with my mobile phone and connect successfully.  Then I tried to unplug the internet incoming cable to my iMac directly.  It works like a charm.  Thus confirm the problem lies on my AirPort Extreme.  In the past it was working correctly to access this website.  It seems the problem happened after the OS updated to OS X 10.10.2 and iTunes to 12.1.  Any advice to diagnose the AirPort Extreme?  Thanks!

Ok.. that is getting us somewhere.
The issue with fibre can be rather strange.. it has to do with technical issues between the supplied IP address the subnet of the entry and the gateway.. if the gateway is outside of the subnet of public IP it can fail to work. This is because the subnet mask is set too small a range.
Another way of saying the same thing is that the AE is not flexible enough to handle what is really incorrect setup on the part of the ISP.. but terribly common, such that most router manufacturers just work around it by using a more flexible route table.. it is fixable in most routers where the route table is accessible.. of course apple does nothing of the sort.. In fact apple routers are really pretty restrictive and unless you have cable modem I don't like your chances of it working.
I want you to test a few things.
Pick one of the sites that fails.. and open a terminal in the Mac.
Run the command traceroute to the website and give me the output. eg
It will fail although sometimes it can actually reach the site just not connect to http.
    traceroute www.google.com

Now do the same thing again with the connection bypassing the apple router..
So I can see where the routing is falling.
If you are having DNS problems.. very likely in Yosemite.. try using the IP address instead of the name.
