Airport Extreme USB Printing NOT working

I got an HP Photosmart 8450 connected thru USB to an Airport Extreme, version 7.3.2. On the other side, an iMAC. I can see the printer thru the airport utility, but just can't print. Printing thru airport USB port has always been a nightmare to me. When I connect the printer directly to the iMAC USB port it works just fine, but then I can't share with the rest of the computers at home..
Any good hints from anyone?

G'Day, had the same problem wit hmy HP PSC2410. Go to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1253 and follow trouble shooting list. I had to do all of them before i could print wirelessly but it worked. Hope this helps.
It took me 10 days of frustration, and i was ready to throw the Airport, the imac, and the pc out the window, but one of the people from this discussion site posted this to me and it worked.
Let me know how you get on.
Cheers
Dewy

  • Airport extreme usb printer does not show on macbook

I have been trying to set-up a printer on a Airport Extreme through the USB cable.  However, the printer does not show under "Printers and Scanners" and the help on-line has not helped at all.

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the  AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

  • Internet connection via Airport Extreme/router thats not working, why?

I have been having problems with the internet connection via Airport Extreme which I find it a bit unusual and its still driving me nuts! This is what happened:
I have lost my internet connection last Sunday evening upon my return from a weekend away from home. The last time I have used the internet connection on my macbook was the previous Friday morning. Prior to the apparent disconnection on Sunday, I have always used my internet connection wirelessly through Airport Extreme (that is connected via ethernet cable to the NETGEAR DG834v2 ADSL modem which had worked beautifully until the problem arose on my return). This wireless internet connection allowed me to surf the internet anywhere in my home.
However, upon the successful re-connection to the internet via the modem router, I have discovered several new problems. I have tried to set up the internet connection wirelessly again but instead the following happened:
    1. Router (Netgear) drops ADSL connection and cannot reconnect when connected to airport via Ethernet. (which is the case when using airport wireless).
    2. Router connects to ADSL fine when computer is connected to it via Ethernet. (However, router disconnects when magsafe power adapter is taken out for some inexplicable reason!)
    3. Router connects to ADSL fine when nothing is connected to the router (ie. No Ethernet connections)
    4. Router connects to ADSL fine when connected to airport via Ethernet and computer is connected to airport via Ethernet.
So from the above, I cannot connect to the internet properly whether wirelessly or not so I suspect it could be faulty router or could it be airport extreme? I have asked my ISP for an explanation and all they have said is that it cannot be the mis-configuration but could be to do with the power adaptors or the way plugs are set up and suggested I take out all the power plugs (and power surge protector) out to switch everything off, the macbook, router, printer and airport extreme. However, when I have re-plugged them all back in, the problems I have described above still persists!
Would appreciate any help if anyone here recognises why this is the case and what seems to be the cause of this. If so, what should I do? Though I have written back to my ISP again yesterday for more help so im waiting to hear from them...
    Thanks

  • Possible Workaround - AirPort Extreme Disk Utility not working in Windows

    1) The only way I have managed to get Windows (in my case Vista) working with AE Disk Utility is to set it up using the "Assist Me" or "Manual Setup" with the Airport Utility with no special settings used to configure it.
    2) Update the Station & let it restart.
    3) On your Windows PC - Simply temporarily DISABLE your firewall until the next step is successfully completed. (I am using Norton 360).
    4) Use the Airport Disk Utility to log on as either a Guest or User. (You should see the drive appear under Windows Explorer & see ALL the files it contains)
    5) Re-enable the Firewall you have.
    6) This works for me everytime & I am able to stay connected to my USB drive for as long as I want or I wish to disconnect it.
    7) Repeat the above everytime you want to re-connect the drive to the Airport Extreme.
I am able to connect successfully using my MAC Mini & my Dell Laptop at the same time without conflict.
I know this is not an elegant solution, but until Apple get sort this out, it is failry easy to try.
I hope it works for you !
    Enjoy :))

Well I fixed this. Get the AirPortBaseStationUpdate2007001.dmg update. I had installed this, but it didn't put in a few items that it should have. Mainly a little application in Core Servies. I used Pacifist to install the Airport Disk Utility again, and then restarted. I no longer got a beep when opening AD Utility, but I had to uncheck "Automatically discover disks" then turn off file sharing on the router, wait for it to restart, then turn file sharing back on, and then open AD Utility after restart and click Auto Discover. It then saw my disks. I also changed the name of the Windows Workgroup, I don't know if that had something to do with it. Good luck!

  • Airport Extreme USB Printer Windows 8

    Hello everyone,
I have an Airport Extreme.  My HP P1006 printer is plugged directly into the Airport Extreme.  My desktop PC running Windows 8 is also plugged into the Airport Extreme via ethernet cable.  When I try to print to the HP P1006 it does not work.  I have tried installing Bonjour Printer support to no avail, it usually crashes.  I have a Macbook Pro and a Dell laptop running Windows 7 that both print remotely over the Wifi network.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks for your time.
    Neel

You need to keep working on installing bonjour as the print services are not going to work easily without it.
Have a go loading it in safe mode.. I am not sure.. but it is always worth trying.
Is the win8 computer setup for windows home group? That might cause issues. You might need to stop the home group, get the bonjour services installed and then try again with it. With or without homegroup working.
Network printer via the Extreme could be offered direct to the network. I am just not sure how to access it without bonjour.

  • Apple airport express wireless printing not working on Windows

I have installed the Airport Utility v 5.5.3 and Bonjour Printer Wizard on my Windows XP (SP3) machine. I have successfully set up the router, but am unable to print wirelessly. In the utility, I see my printer and have selected the checkbox Share printers over WAN. I have the driver printers installed on a Windows laptop, but am unsuccessful printing from the laptop.
I read somewhere that I need to set the Internet > Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode). I did that and then got the following error and then can't connect to the internet via the router at all:
An error occurred while trying to access the Apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again. Error -6753.
I have tried setting up Bridge Mode several times and ensured my virus protection and firewall were disabled, but always the same results, so I reset my router and am back to using the Internet > Connection Sharing option of Share a public IP address.
The whole reason I bought this router is because it is supposed to be easy for wireless printing, but this has been far from easy to set up. So frustrating. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your quick response. Yes, I have Bonjour Print Services installed. I thought I had to select Share printers over WAN for some reason. Just now I deselected this setting, updated the utility and wireless printing still does not work .

  • Airport Extreme/Time Capsule not working after downloading 7.6

Downloaded airport 7.6 last night and now time capsule/airport extreme doesn't work.  I can't even reset the tc to factory default settings.  Not sure what to do now.

Hi, today I got the same problem after 7.6 update for my Time Capsule. I tried to downgrade to 7.5.2, but afterwards the problem was not solved. Then I tried to set fixed channnels - and it works! For 2.4 Ghz I used channel 12 and for 5Ghz channel 48. Beforehand I used "automatic" for both. Hope it works for you too. I don't know, how Apple's test team spend the whole day ;-)

  • HT3546 Does the Airport Extreme Base Station not work with the OS X Lion?

Ever since updated to OSX Lion can't get our airport station to work.  Is it too old and won't work with this upgrade so do we need a newer airport?

Suggest that you download and install AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion which should work with your older AirPort Extreme.
You can keep both AirPort Utility 6.1 and 5.6 on your Mac and use the one that you want or need at the time.

  • AEBS Airport Extreme USB Printer Problem

AEBS recognizes my Canon MX700 on the Printer page, but it shows two lines, one labeled "Canon MX700 series", and the other "Canon MX700 series FAX". The name field for the first label is blank and can't be updated (any entry made here is gone after updating AEBS). The name field for the for the FAX label can be changed and gets updated. From the Print & Fax System Preference panel of my computer, the FAX name entry appears and can be "added," but printing to it does not work (error 311). My MX700 firmware and driver (new CUPS) are up to date, as are specs on my AEBS. Does anyone know what I should do? Thanks!

Hmm... helpful answer, maybe, Duane. I wonder about the two labels though. If it doesn't support the FAX side, then why is it showing a 2nd label for it? Just curious...

  • Airport Extreme and Express not working well together

I recently got a new Airport Extreme, but still want to use my Airport Express'es to play music throughout my house via airtunes. The problem is that it seems that I can't see the Express anymore - they aren't showing up in the airport utility at all. (Using the recent updated Version 5.1 (510.18)). Anyone with any ideas?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Had the same issue. The AirPort Express is still looking for the old base station and it's network. (I'm assuming that you upgraded from an old base station). The way I remedied the situation was to do a hard rest on the AirPort Express and run the setup assistant included in the new AirPort software. When I just tries the setup assistant without resetting the AP Express I got nowhere.
    give it a try.

  • Shared USB Printing not working

I have a HP Laser Jet 1012 attached to my G4 tower via USB. It is described as "Laser Jet 1012 USB" in the add printer dialog box. I can print using the G4 tower with no problem.
When I try to add this printer using my G4 Power book via shared USB printing or just USB it is described as "Laser Jet Bonjour printer". When I try to print I get a "forbidden message" in the Print Status dialog box and of course no printing results.
I have reinstalled the original and the latest printer drivers numerous times.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
    Bill T.

Yes shared printing is enabled on the G4 Tower.

  • Airport base station usb printer not working

I have a hp 5150 printer that is connected to an Airport base station. I have been using this connection for over a year without a problem. I used the printer this morning from my laptop after changing an ink cartridge. Everything seemed to be working fine. Printed some maps from the internet.
When I got home from work I tried to print some more maps and directions and I just get the red exclamation mark on the printer icon and a message that asks about the print que. The job gets stopped. I don't get it. How can it work fine in the morning and then just stop working. No one has access to change anything except me and I wasn't home. The printer will not print from my Imac or powerbook. I have deleted the job. Restarted the Imac. Checked the usb connection on both the Airport Base Station and the printer.

  • AirTunes and USB printer not working?

    Hi there-
This is probably (and hopefully) a simple problem to fix and I'm just being an idiot. Recently I moved and got myself an Airport Express to replace the Linksys that my old roommate took with her. It's been great, I got my network set up, I actually have a password now, everything. When I got it about a month and a half ago, I didn't have a printer or a way to plug my speaker to the Express, so I didn't bother with it.
Now I have both, but when I plug the printer or the speaker into the Express neither work. iTunes recognizes my base station, but no sound comes out of the speaker, and Word knows that the printer is there but when I print I get an error message saying it's not connected. I'm not exactly sure what to do. Poking through troubleshooting or Help doesn't work, so I'm hoping that I can get an answer here.
    Thanks!

Hello Abby Waysdorf. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Let's double-check your AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) settings ...
Either connect to the AX's wireless network, or temporarily, connect directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, using the AirPort Utility (in Manual Setup), check the following settings:
    AirPort - Base Station
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Base Station Password: <enter the desired base station administrator password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the base station administrator password>
o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (optional)
o Allow configuration over Ethernet WAN port: checked
AirPort - Base Station - Base Station Options
    o Contact: (optional)
    o Location: (optional)
o Status Light: Always On (Default)
    AirPort - Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
o Network Name: <enter name or leave default>
    o Radio Mode: 802.11b/g compatible
    o Channel: Automatic
    o Wireless Security: None
AirPort - Wireless - Wireless Options
    o Multicast Rate: 2 Mbps
    o Transmit Power: 100%
o Create a closed network: unchecked
    o Use interference robustness: unchecked
    AirPort - Access Control
o MAC Address Access Control: Not Enabled
    Internet - Internet Connection
    o Connect Using: Ethernet
    o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    o DNS Server(s): (optional)
    o Domain Name: (optional)
    o DHCP Client ID: (optional)
o Ethernet WAN Port: Automatic (Default)
o Connection Sharing: Share a public IP address
    Internet - DHCP
    o DHCP Range: 10.0.1.x
    o DHCP Beginning Address: 10.0.1.2
    o DHCP Ending Address: 10.0.1.200
    o DHCP Lease: 4 hours
    o DHCP Message: (optional)
    o LDAP Server: (optional)
    Internet - NAT
    o Enable default at: unchecked
o Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol: checked
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o Enable AirTunes over Ethernet (optional)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)
Once you verified that you can get Internet access for all of your computers, you should secure your wireless network. To do so, I suggest that you make these changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
    o Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
o Wireless Password: <enter your desired wireless network security password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter the wireless password>
o Click on "Update" to save the settings to the AX.

  • Airport Extreme and Express not working with Leopard

Both Exreme and Express appeared on Disk Utilty as "green" and worked with Tiger, after I installed new OS Leopard neither appears and cannot connect wirelessly.
    What's up? TOM

Although the Upgrade path is touted as the "simplest" if may be the most troublesome if your Mac had a lot of third-party applications running on it prior to upgrading. Unfortunately, it's too early to offer much advise on what may have gone wrong with your AirPort connectivity. My guess, at this time, is that you may have some corrupted AirPort configuration files in your System folder.
Do you, by chance, have a clone backup of your previous disk? If so, it might be worth the trouble to return your Mac to its previous configuration, and then, try upgrading using the "Archive and Install" method. This will ensure a "clean" copy of Leopard, and just transition your user settings as appropriate. You may also want to post in the new Leopard Discussions area as well.

  • I am not able to print to my usb airport extreme attached printer from my windows aptop or window desktop

I am not able to print to my usb airport extreme attached printer from my windows aptop or window desktop

Your post did not really provide any details on what you have done in the way of troubleshooting or printer software that you have installed, so we don't have much to go on here.
For starters though, you will not be able to print unless you have installed Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2 on the PC(s) and run the program.
So, if you have not done this, that would be a good first step.
