Airport extreme won't connect to the modem

I am having issue with the Airport extreme after update the Airport Utility.
Individually, both Airport extreme and the modem/ router (Belkin)  is working fine.
All my Mac system can detect the Airport extreme, but unable to access internet as not internet connection.
Then I connect via the WIFI modem directly, the internet access is fine.
I have reset both units few times, but no luck, checked the firmware, they are all up-to-date.
It seems the Airport extreme is not communicating with the modem.
Does anyone know how to fix it? Many thanks.

the mac address of the old router is probally linked thru a IP lease to your ISP account. You may need to call your ISP and have them release the lease on your IP address. You old router should be turned off when they do this.

Everytime I try to connect the Modem through the WAN port, the airport utility says there is no internet connection, but when I connect the same ethernet line directly to my macbook it works fine. What's going on and how do I fix it?

Some ISP's won't talk to an Airport extreme unless it's in bridge mode:

  • Airport extreme won't connect to the internet

I have a replaced New Airport Extreme Gen 4 operating on XP PC (which replaced a previous Airport Extreme).  I have configured all settings (so I think) to create a WiFi.  The WiFi is created and detected by the PC and iPad3 and both connect.  I have had no luck getting onto the internet though.  I have a basic ADSL 2+ netgear modem (DM 111 P v2) that connects to the internet fine when the ethernet is directly plug to the PC. I am getting an IP assignment from the network of 0.0.0.1. Which given my limited knowledge is not right.  I have reset both modem and Airport by powering down. Next steps I could possibly try?

How do you have your new 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) connected to the the Dell router? ... by wire or wireless? If by wireless, how do you have the AEBSn configured: extend or join?

  • Airport Extreme-won't connect after the latest Apple software update

My iBook will no longer connect to the wi-fi provider at our marina since the last two security updates to 10.3.
The iBook works just fine with all other wi-fi signals in fact pulls in one that's a half mile away! Yet, it will not connect nor show signal strength with this one wi-fi provider. They haven't changed their signal and it occured immediately after I installed the latest software updates.
When I shut down the computer today, for just a moment, a message flashed "should I grant permission to allow the marina wi-fi to connect". But it was gone before I could "click" on the button. Haven't been able to get that message again. I've tried to re-connect via "Other" and keying in the wi-fi system name and password but no luck.
How can I restore my connection to this wi-fi?
    Thanks,

    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I had this issue last month after upgrading Quicktime and downloading a security upgrade. For some reason (which Apple couldn't derive), the upgrades for their products screwed up my Keychain, and the only way to fix it was to reset my Keychain. Like you, I run 10.3.9, and this happened with two different upgrades on both my iBook and my iMac.
The reset process is as follows:
Go to Keychain Access in Utilities
Access Keychain First Aid (under Window menu)
    Choose “Options”
    Choose "Reset Keychain"
What a pain...I've stopped downloading upgrades from Apple until this gets resolved. Of course, that's not a good "solution" either.

  • Airport Extreme won't connect with my cable modem (Time Warner)

OK, I'm tired of staring at a blinking amber light. I'm reaching out to anyone out there who's had this problem. I've got everything connected right, the software loaded, the connections set on my laptop (Macbok Pro). But still my Airport Extreme won't connect to the Internet. I've tried different cables, rebooting both my modem and my Airport. For the record, I've had a Mac IT guy from my advertising agency come by my house and make sure that everything's installed and hooked up right. But it still keeps saying that my IP address is invalid, even though I can connect (wired) using the modem.
I suspect I'll just have to take it to the Genius Bar or something. But anybody got any ideas? I really want to join the 'n' generation....

Did you power off the cable modem when switching the Ethernet connection from laptop to AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)? This is usually required.

  • My westel modem (that I rent from my phone provider) quit working with the internet.  My airport extreme seems to be working from the dsl (phone) connection through the westel, then through the ethernet cabled to the airport extreme.  Do I need the modem?

My westel modem (that I rent from my phone provider) quit working with the internet.  My airport extreme seems to be working from the dsl (phone) connection through the westel, then through the ethernet cabled to the airport extreme.  Do I need the modem?  Is the ethernet route less efficent that going throught the internet connection?  If I don't need the westel modem; how do I make the dsl conection to the pone port in the wall?  Thanks for help on this!

Ok, so are you saying that your Internet is or isn't working?  Does it work if you plug your computer directly into your computer and bypass the router (make sure you power cycle the modem when you do this)?  If it is working this way, then a new modem isn't going to solve a problem with your Internet not working.  If it is going slow (try running a speedtest) then you need to call your phone company to have them take a look at why your Internet is slow.  If it runs fine this way and then slows back down when you go back through your router there is something else going on.  Try unplugging both the modem and the router, let the modem fully sign back in and connect to the Internet, after it gets signed in, plug your router in, and then after it boots up fully, try running the speedtest again...See if that helps any?  Sometimes it's just an IP conflict that happens when the dynamic IP that is assigned by your Internet Service Provider changes and the change doesn't flow smoothly.

  • Airport Extreme won't connect to network

I just replaced our old Airport Extreme with a new Airport Extreme. Now our Airport Express won't connect with our network. I've got the dreaded blinking yellow light and the Airport Express does not show up as an icon in my Aiport Utilities application. Any ideas? Thanks.

Whenever changing out networking hardware it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of all of your networking gear to make sure that they are communicating properly. Once you re-established a working baseline between the new Extreme and the modem, we can assist you with the Express if you still have issues getting it to connect.

  • Airport extreme n not connecting to the internet but green light is on

Original configuration worked until a few days ago like this... Cable modem (RCA Digital by Comcast Model DHg535-2) ran into airport extreme N... into a D-Link DGS-2208 8 port switch... off to 8 different macs / printers/apple tv's/ and wireless macbook pro. Perfect.
Dilemma now. Cable modem running direct to main IMAC and works fine connecting through DHCP and active ip address. Ethernet shows green light in system preferences and connected. Unhook the line to the Mac and into the airport. Airport lights up green, bars show as connected, my original apple network is showing and connected w green light on airport and in system network preferences. Once this is done i can not access internet pages and they just spin on "loading". Hardline from airport extreme is connected to the IMAC and still no internet. Wireless shows up on macbook but still states "Loading".
Step one - connect to internet through direct line cable model. WORKS
Step two - connect to internet through direct wire through model/airport. No
Step three - connect through wireless - No
Step four - reestablish my switch and get everything back on line - Nope.
    Bunce

The problem may be when you switch what is connected to the modem by just unplugging and replugging devices.
Any time you change network configuration, you should perform a complete power recycle of all of the network equipment to make sure that they are both "recognized" and initialized properly.
    Please try the following:
o Power-down the modem, 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), D-Link switch, & computer(s)/printer(s). Wait at least 10-15 minutes. Order is not critical.
o While the power is off, reconfigure your network to include the AEBSn.
o Power-on the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-on the D-Link switch; wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computers/printers.

  • My airport extreme will not connect to the Internet

My airport extreme will not connect to my toshiba router. I connected it to my office internet this morning but when I hooked it up at home it simply will not connect. I have tried resetting all the settings and have had no luck. It did work once upon a time. I currently have my airport express hooked up so I know there is connectivity.

I could never figure it out after trying everything I could and going to the genius bar I ended up just purchasing another extreme.  The really funny thing is that I can set up a network between the two and it works fine.  I am using it at work now with out any problems so I guess there is really no loss :-?

  • EA6700 won't connect to the modem

    Hi experts!
N00b here! Since last night, I'm having a problem with my router EA6700: It won't connect to the broadband modem. If I plug my modem straight to my laptop, no problem. But, if I plug the modem to the internet port (yellow port), the activity lights go dead and, of course, I don't have internet connection. However, the link light on my router and on my modem is light up.
I've tried to power cycle the modem and then the router, no good. Tried to reset the router settings and configure everything back, the Smart Wi-Fi setup gets stuck when looking for an internet connection. Tried new cables, no good. I downloaded the latest firmware (which I was already running) to overwrite the current firmware and then, reset the router settings, same thing. Tried to change the router IP address, still nothing. I cloned the MAC address from my laptop, just in case my ISP had filtered anything, still nothing.
Any ideas? Has anyone came across with this issue before?
    Thanks
    Ariel
PS: I'm running on DHCP and firmware is Ver.1.1.40 (build 160989)

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Is ISP Modem/Service using Dynamic or Static WAN IP addressing?
What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAT6 is recommended.
Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask.

For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.
If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm and http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.

  • I changed cable providers and now my Airport Express won't connect to the Internet.  How do I fix this?

I changed to Time Warner cable.  Upon doing so, my Airport Express lost its connection to the Internet.  When I run the Airport Utility, I am stuck at the first step, which says the AE doesn't have any DNS server addresses.  What are they and how do I find out what they should be?  And if I supply them, will that fix the problem?

Have you performed a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express?
If not, the Express is still remembering the settings that you programmed into it when you configured it to work with your old modem.
The Express is "looking" for your old modem, but it does not "see" 'it because it is no longer there...so it can't connect to the Internet.
If you have not already tried the Factory Default Reset and you need more info about this, post back for more details.

  • Airport Extreme saying no connection to the internet - cable modem still showing all is good. Airport Extreme light is still green.

I am having an issue where my airport extreme is saying there is no connection to the internet but still shows a green light and the status lights on the cable modem are all good. This is affecting both wired and wireless connection.
Today I had an issue where my iMac (wired) and other wireless devices could not connect to the internet but my work PC (windows 7 and also wired) was connected fine...in fact I was on a VOIP call at the time and had no issues. The only way I have of resolving this issue is to power cycle the airport by unpluging it.
Also, during this time I am unable to access the airport base station through via the airport utilities on my iMac, iPhone, or iPad.

I had the same experience yesterday when my airport extreme is green, cable modem has no problem and no internet on wired iMac or no WiFi. After talking to the cable company, there is nothing wrong with the cable modem and the line, the problem is in the System Preference>Network>Advance>DNS of the iMac. I don't know why as it seems like someone just turn my entire set up upside down. The only thing that I can relate to is that I was trying to figure out with Back To My Mac feature in iCloud between office and home.
In the Network, my DNS server somehow is 10.0.1.1 which is internal Apple IP. Take that out and you would see the actual DNS Servers from the providers.
Also when I look at the airport extreme through airport utilities, in Network setting the Router mode is Off (bridge mode). Once change this and everything is good to go.

  • My modem works just fine, but my airport extreme refuses to connect to the internet.  I even reset it more than once, changed the DNS servers and still nothing.  Help

Ok so recently we were having problems with our phone.  We had to disconnect our modem in order to fix the phone lines and when that happened, our airpot extreme disconnected itself from the internet.  No matter what I did i could not get it to connect back.  I would power down the modem, I would reset the AE and nothing would happen.
I tried changing the DNS server and nothing happened.  I always get the same messages in the airport utility app: No internet connection and no DNS server
Nothing I seem to do works.  I do know for a fact though, that the problem is not the modem.  I have connected it through ethernet to other devices and the internet has worked just fine.
Please please please if anybody sees this help me out!!

Since you feel good about having internet access up to your Airport, I would suggest as a next step checking your Airport's status light to see if it is giving any clues as to what may be going on. Below is some info on what the light can indicate
AirPort Express Status light sequences and what they indicate.
No light (Off) - AirPort Express is unplugged
Solid green - AirPort Express is on and working properly.
Flashing amber - AirPort Express is not set up or cannot establish a connection to the network or
the Internet. Use AirPort Utility to find out the cause. See “If Your AirPort Express
Status Light Flashes Amber” on page 20.
Solid amber - AirPort Express is starting up.
Flashing amber and green - There may be a problem starting up. AirPort Express will restart

  • Why (out of the blue) airport extreme can't connect to the internet?

Suddenly the airport extreme on my macbook pro (10.6.8) decided to completely stop working. the modem/router work fine as i tested them with another computer and i've brought my macbook to another house and tested it there and the same thing happens.  if i'm hardwired via ethernet cable the internet works like normal. which is what i'm doing now.
the wireless icon on the top of the screen shows full strength and when i click on it it shows my network with a check mark next to it but if i try to open a browser window it won't work. opening network preferences shows that airport is not connected and it does not have an IP address and can't connect to the internet. if i open airport utility (5.6.1) it says "airport utility unable to find any airport wireless devices".
everything was working fine a few days ago.
    what's going on?

The same thing happened to me, and I took it to get looked at and they even replaced my base station, but then it kept disconnecting. I finally  found the answer that solved my problem, but now I can't find the post that solved it to direct you toward. So I'll try to re-create it as best as I can.
Like that user, I have Xfinity. The other user had received this assistance from Comcast tech support (Which is sad that Comcast was more helpful than ... anyone ... but especially Apple), so if it doesn't work they should be able to help fill the gaps. Chances are, you may be better off getting assistance from your ISP than from Apple.
Basically, Comcast switched over to IPv6, and it needs to be accounted for or else the AEBS will drop the signal from the DSL modem.
    1. Open Airport Utility
    2. Click Edit on your AEBS icon.
    3. Click the Internet tab.
    4. Click Internet Options.
    5. Make sure IPv6 Mode is set to "Tunnel."
    6. Click the "Enable IPv6 Connection Sharing" radio button so that it's active.
    7. Save changes, Update the new settings, and let the AEBS restart with the new changes.
I fixed it a couple of days ago, and it's worked perfectly since then.
Here's the post that fixed it. https://discussions.apple.com/message/21916742#21916742
Here's the Comcast information the post refers to. http://www.comcast6.net/index.php/6to4config#faq3
