Airport Extreme won't connect with my cable modem (Time Warner)

OK, I'm tired of staring at a blinking amber light. I'm reaching out to anyone out there who's had this problem. I've got everything connected right, the software loaded, the connections set on my laptop (Macbok Pro). But still my Airport Extreme won't connect to the Internet. I've tried different cables, rebooting both my modem and my Airport. For the record, I've had a Mac IT guy from my advertising agency come by my house and make sure that everything's installed and hooked up right. But it still keeps saying that my IP address is invalid, even though I can connect (wired) using the modem.
I suspect I'll just have to take it to the Genius Bar or something. But anybody got any ideas? I really want to join the 'n' generation....

Did you power off the cable modem when switching the Ethernet connection from laptop to AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)? This is usually required.

  • Airport extreme won't work with Optimum cable

Bresnan Cable just switched to Optimum.  My internet no longer works using Airport Extreme.  Cable is working as is wireless.  Optimum support says it has something to do with external versus internal IP addresses and weather my Airport Extreme was configured as a switch or router?

I have a toshiba laptop and it works prefectly with a conceptronic usb card. But you must set up the Base Station only with the default options. I mean that you can not hide the SSID, or make an access control with Airport Extreme. You only set up the default options and it works perfectly. When I try to place an access control or hide the network then it doesn´t work and wait an ip as you say in your post.
If you want to connect from Windows to the Base Station you need to close your firewall and no other cable into the Airport Extreme, only the cable that you are connecting to access the Base Station. And it will work.

  • HT1218 first generation airport extreme won't connect with my iPad2

I have an 'old skool' airport extreme and I can't get it to connect to my ipad2.  I get the following message: "The airprort extreme named 'Apple Network ____'cannot be set up by this software. Go to apple.com/support/airport". Any ideas on what I need to do??? My computer recognizes the AirPort Extreme as well as my 1st generation iPad... Any help would be appreciated:)

  • Airport Extreme won't connect to network

I just replaced our old Airport Extreme with a new Airport Extreme. Now our Airport Express won't connect with our network. I've got the dreaded blinking yellow light and the Airport Express does not show up as an icon in my Aiport Utilities application. Any ideas? Thanks.

Whenever changing out networking hardware it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of all of your networking gear to make sure that they are communicating properly. Once you re-established a working baseline between the new Extreme and the modem, we can assist you with the Express if you still have issues getting it to connect.

my airport extreme only will connect with computer or ipad not both

We need just a bit more information, please before we can begin to accurately troubleshoot this issue.
    1) What is the make and model number of your modem?
    2) What operating system are you using on the MacBook Pro at this time. Your tagline indicates that you are using OS X (10.4.8), but this is about 6-7 years out of date.
If you are no sure which operating system your Mac is using......click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac. Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • Airport Extreme intermittently loses connection with Internet?

I have an Airport Extreme connected to a router that is connected to our cable modem. Internet connection is fine, but the Airport Extreme will intermittently lose connection with the Internet and shows a solid amber light. Turning the Airport Extreme off and then on again will resolve the issue, however, this happens about once per week (at different days/times) and would like to ensure a consistent connection even when I'm not at home. (We are thinking of installing a lighting control system that depends upon a consistent wireless connection to work properly, even when we aren't home to restart the Airport Extreme). Please advise on what the trouble might be and how we can get a permanent resolution to the issue.

Is your Extreme an 802.11g (domed-shape) or 802.11n (squarish) model? Do you have the Extreme connected to the other router by Ethernet? Finally, is the Extreme configured as a bridge, i.e., Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)?

  • Make AirPort Extreme share internet connection with Time Capsule

    Hello,
This is the situation: in one room there's an old Mac, the modem which delivers the internet and the AirPort Extreme which is connected to the modem.
In another room there's the Mac Pro, the Time Capsule which is connected to the Mac Pro with an ethernet cable and to a printer via USB.
I want the AirPort Extreme to wirelessly share it's internet connection with the Time Capsule so that the Time Capsule can share the printer with all three Macs (old Mac, Mac Pro and Macbook Pro), the Mac Pro can use the Time Capsule for Time Machine functionality and maybe the Macbook Pro too.
And just using the Time Capsule for internet.
    How can I do this?
At the moment the AirPort Extreme is disconnected and the Time Capsule is used instead, but this way I can't share the printer...
    Thanks!

Is that AirPort Extreme "flat" or dome-shaped?  If it's flat (802.11n-capable), you should be able to configure the "main" router to "Allow this network to be extended" and the other to "Join a wireless network".  If the Extreme is dome-shaped, then you need a more-complicated "WDS" arrangement.  In either case it shouldn't matter much which router plays which role.
I'm not sure what you mean by "And just using the Time Capsule for internet."

Is the printer connected to the USB port of the Time Capsule?  Can you see the printer in the "Printer" panel of AirPort Utility?  What happens when you try to use it from one of the Macs?

  • Windows XP (SP3) laptop - sees Airport Extreme, won't connect

I am using an older (2003) Toshiba Satellite laptop that is running Windows XP with Service Pack 3. I had been using a Linksys G router and adapter for years with no problem, but we recently upgraded to a Time Capsule for Wireless-N. We're using WPA/WPA2 Personal security. My wife's Macbook Pro connects with no problems at all.
The laptop will connect when the network is unsecured, but it won't connect with WPA security. I see the network under the "Choose a wireless network" choice, I can double-click it, I enter the password, and it then thinks for about a minute. After that, it just stops with no message at all, and I'm still not connected. I updated the drivers to no avail, and the card (Linksys WPC54G) specs say it supports WPA. Any idea what the problem might be?
    Thanks!

Hello ChrisLS. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Check out the following iFelix article to see if it will help: Problems connecting an XP PC to an Airport Base Station. Although it is written for connecting to an AirPort Base Station, it will apply equally as well for the Time Capsule.

  • Airport extreme won't connect to the modem

I am having issue with the Airport extreme after update the Airport Utility.
Individually, both Airport extreme and the modem/ router (Belkin)  is working fine.
All my Mac system can detect the Airport extreme, but unable to access internet as not internet connection.
Then I connect via the WIFI modem directly, the internet access is fine.
I have reset both units few times, but no luck, checked the firmware, they are all up-to-date.
It seems the Airport extreme is not communicating with the modem.
Does anyone know how to fix it? Many thanks.

the mac address of the old router is probally linked thru a IP lease to your ISP account. You may need to call your ISP and have them release the lease on your IP address. You old router should be turned off when they do this.

  • Canon MP500 connected to AirPort Extreme won't communicate with my desktop

My Canon Pixma MP500 (which we really like) is connected to my new AirPort Extreme Base station via the USB port. My PC is attached via network cable to the base station. I have a MacBook. When printing to my printer from my PC, the printer doesn't communicate back to the PC that it is printing. Plus, I have lost the ability to determine the ink levels. I'm sure all of this is tied to bidirectional communication between the printer and the computer. Both of my computers (desktop PC and MacBook) print to the printer with no problem, but I have lost the other features. I can't scan on my printer now with the MP Navigator software. For example, when I print from the pc, there is an error message that the printer is not available, even though it prints ok.
Is there any way to leave the connection the way it is and to modify the AirPort Utility software to allow the bidirectional communication with the printer? Any other advice? I bought the AirPort Extreme base station to have printing from my MacBook, now I think I have mis-spent the money.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
interestingly enough I have the very same problem with a Canon MP830. My Windows PC and MacBook Pro running XP as well will happily print but there is no feedback.
But I also had this problem with different non-Apple access points with integrated print server. So this seems not to be a special Airport Extreme problem.
Canon support told me to buy a Silex print server.
    Hope someone can resolve this.
    Regards,
    Wolfgang

  • Airport extreme won't connect via Ethernet to BT homeHub v2.0

    Hi
here's what I want to do:
    1. Homehub is connected to the phoneline and will provide a b/g network for my iphone/xbox/laptop1
    2. I want to connect my airport extreme to this (from what I can tell this must be done through an ethernet cable) so that I can have a separate N network which only 1 laptop will connect to.
So the problem I have is that no matter what options I select in the airport extreme when it's connected via ethernet it tells me that nothing is connected to the Ethernet WAN port. I've tried two different cables different ports on the back of the hub etc. nothing works. Every time I search google or forums for an answer people just write "connected it via ethernet and it works great" but there's no guide to what settings to use that I can see.
Can someone please help me with some sort of noob guide to get this setup how I've stated?
    Many thanks in advance

    Hey Bob
thanks fro the quick response. I have actually tried exactly that but it still flashes orange at me I'm suspicious that the AE may have a fault because during the setup (i can't remember the exact steps) but I got the AE updated and it complained that it could read from the AE (error code was 10057). Googling this does thow up a couple of solutions which I haven't tried.
    so my steps should be:
    Factory Reset the AE
    setup as join existing network
join via ethernet to create a 2nd network
connect up the cable to the WAN port and the Lan of the Hub
    change to bridge mode.
One thing I did notice (which may or may not be related) is the subnet mask on the AE says 255.255.0.0 when I set it up like this. However when I make it just join the network without trying to create a new one (which works) it sets it to 255.255.255.0 . the IP address also begins 192.168.1.* whereas in the other setup mode it is something different. Does that matter at all?
    Thanks
    Alan

  • Airport Extreme won't work with windows computer?

I can't get airport extreme to work with my other computer which is a windows machine. The windows machine can't find the network address. • Has anyone had issues with the airport extreme 802.11 connecting with a linksys SPA941 phone?

Got the new AirPort Extreme.  Trying to connect my Linksys SPA941 phone to it.  Mute button flashes so call receiver cannot hear me.  Tested wires..All good. Changed modem..All good.  Had same issue with Linksys router EA4500 i just traded in.  Hoped to fix the issue with Airport.  Same issue is occuring.

One more thing.  I was using the Linksys WRT54G2 router before.  Did not have any issues.  It was going bad on me.

  • Airport Extreme won't connect

We have had our airport extreme connected to the internet for a year but recently it will no longer send out a signal with out modem. The modem has been checked by several techs who say it's in working order, and will allow internet when plugged directly into the computer. The airport as well has been tested and will work when connected to a different modem. How do I get this thing to start working again with the modem? It sends out a signal that all three of our apple computers pick up but when they open safari it say under network diagnostics that the airport, airport settings, network settings, and ISP are all working but only the internet and the server fail. What should I do? any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

Have you recently updated your base station to the v5.7 firmware ?
I think i have the same problem like you...!
