Airport Extreme won't let devices...iPhone, iPod, Nook and Kindle connect to home network anymore. Why?

Everything was working great until last week. Not sure what happened. My TV went blank, DVR shut off and iMac and Macbook Pro lost internet. I was able to finally get my computer and laptop to work, not so lucky with my other devices. Our family has iPhones, a Droid, iPods, Nook and most recently a Kindle Fire. None of which will now connect into my home network.iPhone connects to work network just fine. Just keep getting the little wheel with no luck at home.
I've reset my Airport Extreme back to factory settings....no luck. Reset my iPhone back to factory settings.....no luck. Looks like it keeps getting stuck and tripped up, but I can't figure out why.
I was told to change the band from N to G, but I'm not sure that's the best option from what I've been reading. Plus I can't even find where I could change it!
Looking for guidance on what to check for and what I should have selected in my network preferences and Airport Utility for optimal use.
My modem is connected to my Airport which is hardwired to my computer via ethernet.
Running myself in circles, help!? Thanks!

Factory reset the Extreme (so we don't second guess later), and re-set up the extreme using iOS5 on your iPhone.

My brand new out the box airport extreme won't let anything connect to it.

My brand new out the box 5th gen (2013) airport extreme won't let anything connect to it. I've tried several setups from sratch by the book. multiple resets and restores still nothing. It just keeps telling mt that the password is in correct even though it is 100% right.
My curren set up is as follows. Phone Line -> ADSL2+ router -> Airport extreme. There is also an old airport express running of the router, this was done because the airport extremem was failing to work.
Trying to connect:
2x iPhone 4s
2x macbook air
2x Mac Pro.

You will want the Extreme to be in bridge mode if it is currently disabled. (see image below)
This will allow the ADSL2+ router to perform two important functions for your entire network: 1) Provide both the DHCP & NAT services, and 2) Provide PPPoE support to allow access to your ADSL ISPs network.
If the Extreme is left in its default state, a router, it will conflict with the first item and you will have want is known as a "double NAT" condition. Something you will want to avoid.

Airport Extreme won't let me log in or reset password

So about 3 months ago I bought a new Aiport Extreme base station. I came home and tried to set it up (btw, I'm a very experienced Apple user and fairly savvy in computing and networking) but every time I fired up the Airport Utility and tried to set up the base station I'd get to the point where I put a password in and it would take it. The base station would restart and from that point forward I wouldn't be able to enter a password to connect to the network. Every time I entered the password (which I had just set up, btw) it would reject it.
I tried this for a couple hours and finally gave up and have now been out of town for several months. Flash forward to today, same issue. So I tried connecting to the base station from my iPhone and downloading the new firmware to see if that would help. I was able to connect, download the firmware update and then it wouldn't let me do anything further. I tried logging in again from my computer and same exact result, it won't accept the password that i have set up in the base station. I have now factory reset this unit about 10 times and still no luck. Help!

Open System Preferences > Users & Groups
Click on your new user
Click Reset Password... Type New Password
Try to login to your new user
To access your network MacServer you would need to enter the appropriate server login details.

How to set up 6th Generation AirPort Extreme to cable modem as a wireless router and then connect my 3rd Generation Time Capsule to AirPort Extreme as a wireless extender?

What is the best way to set up my 6th Generation AirPort Extreme (A1521) to my cable modem as a wireless router and then connect my 3rd Generation Time Capsule (A1355) to my AirPort Extreme as a wireless extender? I live in a small 1 story house and I currently have the Airport Extreme connected to my cable modem in the living room and the Time Capsule plugged into the wall in my bedroom. I am able to wirelessly connect to the internet using the AirPort Extreme as my router and I can also do wireless back ups to my Time Capsule. My problem is that my connection seems to be really slow! My 1TB Time Capsule back up is only half way complete and it has been 3 days! My computer has been backing up all day and night for almost 72 hours and its still not even 75% complete. I have backed up to this Time Capsule in the past and it never took this long. I am thinking that when I set up my AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule using AirPort Utility I must have set it up incorrectly or something.
How do I set up my Airport Extreme and Time Capsule for the fastest possible internet speed and back up speed?

AirPort Utility 5.6 works with AirPort Extreme 802.11g base stations.
It works with N version airports.
It will also show details of the AC model but cannot be used for the setup.. mostly.
I purposely got the new 6th Gen Airport Extreme so my internet connection would be a lot faster!
Your network will be much faster when you have AC client directly connected to the AE. Older client will go no faster.. but what is worse.. extend wireless is mixing new and old wireless standards.. guess what one wins.. OLD.. So when you extend wireless.. you have no improvement whatsoever. This whole post is about extending wireless.. so you cannot extend to older equipment and do any better.. maybe slightly better signal although from your comments that isn't happening either.
I would rather not have to use an ethernet at all with the TC and I don't know EOP adapters are!
If you do not use ethernet then you are going to be forced to accept slow speed.

So what your saying is for the fastest internet speed and back up speed possible I should keep my Airport Extreme plugged into my Modem and keep my TC set up as a wireless extender? Then when I want to do back ups I should plug an ethernet cable from my TC to my MacBook Pro?
To spell this out.
A wireless link to an extended device will go very slowly.. if it is not direct.
So lets say you have a laptop sitting in the lounge.. Your connection goes.. Laptop- - - - - AE- - - - -TC.
That means two wireless links.. wireless has this nasty half duplex and single channel nature.. it can send or receive (Tx or Rx) but not at the same time.
Ethernet by contrast does both at once. It is full duplex.
Wireless can talk to one client at a time.. so if there are multiple items using wireless lets say 4 devices.. then your computer gets a 25% time slice. Since wireless cannot handle multiple simultaneous connections.
Ethernet by contrast can connect multiple computers to multiple destinations at the same time.. all transmitting and receiving at full speed.
When you put all this together.. there are a couple of rules for fast connection.
1. Use ethernet at all times. Where you cannot use ethernet use anything but wireless.. eg EOP (homeplug) at least to try and get rid of wireless.
2. Where you must use wireless use it sparingly and make sure it is never more than one hop.. ie never have an extend wireless (repeater is more usual term). Repeater will cause instant slowdown of 50% and maybe up to 75% just because it is so inefficient.
3. Fastest wireless is 5ghz but it has very short range.. you need to be up close and personal to get it working.
Apple routers however unless you do manual setup I suggest are set to connect to best signal strength not best speed. It will therefore use 2.4ghz at 25% less speed than 5ghz because it is 1db better signal.. this madness means you need to setup manually for the best setup.

IPod touches don't connect to home network

For some time, the two iPod touches in our household have had trouble connecting to our home network. There have been no problems with other networks. We have a cable modem connected to a Time Capsule, which creates the network, with no extenders or bridges. Our other Macs, two Macbooks and an iMac, have no problem whatsoever connecting. The iPod touches have performed variably getting connected, sometimes appearing to be connected, but slow, sometimes "Unable to join the network". The problem improved for a while, after trying all of the things suggested in the support documents and communities, and resetting the Time Capsule, recreating the network with a new name and password.
In the last few days the iPod Touches have completely stopped connecting to the network again. Even the name of the network only shows up sporadically to attempt entering the password. There is no connection with or without the WPA2 Personal security on. One thing that might be related is that when I look at System Profiler>Network>Airport there are sometimes two networks listed with my network's name, one under "Current Network" and one under "Other Local Wireless Networks". Interestingly, they are on different channels. The Current network is on "149,1" and the other is on "3". Occasionally I can see neighbors' networks, with much worse signal/noise ratios as one would suspect, so I'm not too suspicious of interference from that source although the channels are always single digit ones there. My understanding from my reading in the support documents is that the iPods connect only at 2.4GHz, which would be the single digit channels. I did try changing the channel width to 20MHz instead of 40MHz once, and that didn't seem to make a difference, so I changed it back. I decided it was time to take the Time Capsule and one of the iPods to the local Mac Store, for repair of the Time Capsule. Everything worked fine! I came back home and rechecked the home for all the things in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365 and once again found none.
The Mac technician's suggeston was to try specifying the channel, as opposed to letting the Time Capsule automatically choose the "best" one. It worked! (I chose channel 8, since I had not seen it used by my networks or neighbors' when I looked in System Profiler.)
Just adding this post in case it helps someone else.

Iphone 4s wifi suddenly stopped connecting to home network

My iphone 4s suddenly stopped connecting to my home wifi 2 weeks ago, now it won't even bring it up on the list of available networks. I have tried resetting network settings, have tried manually connecting but it says "unable to locate network". Why would this all of a sudden start doing this when I have had this phone for over a year. My husbands iphone 4 has no problems whatsoever and connects to our home network just fine so I know it is not the router. This is so frustrating

I'm currently suffering from this problem as well. If you or your husband can get your iPhone open, there may be a screw in the upper antenna area of the iPhone that is loose (this screw grounds the antenna to the chip/mainboard).

It's pointed out in the image above. Many have tightened the screw and said their Wi-Fi optimally again. Having a phone for a year does mean a lot of wear-and-tear: dropping, vibration, heat, all accumulate so that the delicate components inside get knocked around and, in this case, loose. Try this method! (If you can, of course.)

AirPort Extreme won't let me reset my password.

When I try to reset my password, I get the following message: "Advertising a service globally using Bonjour requires a global hostname." To my knowledge, I'm not even using Bonjour for anything.

I have exactly the same problem on a Mac, myiphone and my iPad. Also two accounts neither of the verified passords were accepted and neither of the two new resets worked. Also got "conatct customer care"...totally useless and gets you into a nonseseical loop of crazy questions...I just want to SPEAK to someone at SKPYE for help. Now 6 days!
Any advice please?

Airport extreme working on some devices but not others

All of a sudden airport extreme has stopped working on some of our devices. within our family we have an old macbook pro running tiger, a 2nd gen macbook air running snow leopord, a black macbook running lion, a mac mini running lion, two iphone 4s and an iphone 3g. the wireless only works on the two computers running lion. nobody has changed any of the settings on the airport extreme. it is running the latest version and has been working fine up until a couple of days ago. i have reset the modem and router several times each but nothing has helped. when we try to connect the iphones to the wireless they say unable to join network and the computers running snow leopord or older say there was a problem connecting to the network or something similar to that. any help would be appreciated!

I know that you have reset both the modem and AirPort already, but I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
(OPTIONAL, but recommended) While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

I'm having a bit of trouble confirming that the ZyXEL is a combination modem & wireless-N router. If it is, then you really won't get any advantages of using the 802.11g AirPort.
If the range of your ZyXEL is limited, you may find that doing either or both of the following will help: 1) Move the ZyXEL so that it is higher vs. lower in the room, that is away from any closed areas or placed in a metal cabinet, and 2) Changing radio channels. The latter is especially important in you live in an area where there are a number of competing Wi-Fi.
A good utility to find out, is iStumbler. You would use this to find these other Wi-Fi and find which have the strongest signal value. Those that do, you would also want to note which channel they are operating on, and then, change yours to one that is at least 3-5 channels away. So, for example, if you find strong ones on channels 1 & 6, change yours to 11.

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

The 1G iPod can only go as high as 3.1.3. The 1G does not have an internal speaker or volume buttons on the upper left edge.

To get that much storage, you need to look to professional online services. Pro-level hosting accounts may offer you that much (well, many will offer as much storage as you are prepared to pay for), or Amazon professional cloud services. You could also store the files on a home machine and pay for a professional hosting service so you could stream them over your own account (assuming your ISP connection and agreement allows for the bandwidth used). You would still need to deal with the issue of finding an app for the iPad that supported avi streaming.
