Airport failing to connect to live hub

Hi all, i gather from reading the forum pages that a number of users are having the same problem as me, so at the risk of gettin on a soap box....
While i am browsing on the internet every so often, and without warning the internet connection in airport fails, and the little airport icon in the top menu bar next to the volume shows like there's no signal. My hub is not failing and is all lit up like a christmas tree indicating the wireless is fine. I get a message telling me that i am no longer connected to the internet. The only reason for this seems to be the performance of airport in my macbook pro. I have recently downloaded a few new updates to software, including a supposed fix to the issues with airport intermittently failing. This seems to have only made the situation worse. Previously i was able to re-enable the connection by re-booting the macbook. This is no longer fixing the connection. I know there's no issue with the service provider as i am still able to get online via the firewire route, but this is definitely not the first choice.
Anyone got any suggestions?

  • Airport fails to connect at login (only)

Using a MacBook with OSX 10.5, I am trying to connect to a WPA2 Enterprise network. All of the settings are correct, and the certificate is set on 'always trust'.. but on startup/login, Airport fails to connect (no error message, but IP address is self-assigned). If I turn airport off and back on, it properly connects instantly, with no prompts at all.
Does anyone know a reason why the machine would be unable to automatically connect to the network at login, but able to just fine if I manually turn the airport off and back on?

Hmm.. in retrospect this probably isn't the right sub-forum for this question.. it should maybe go in a sub-forum for OS X 10.5 instead (it's not related to the airport basestation). Please feel free to move this, if so.

  • Airport fails to connect without restarting of router

I changed the wireless security on my router from WEP Open to WEP2 Personal. Now, my macbook can't obtain IP (DHCP) from the router until router is restarted. It happens every time the macbook is closed.
I have several other devices, connecting to the same router, and none of them have any problems to reconnect. This excuses the router from any fault.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello dinoiphone,
    Have you checked compatibility?
    Just an FYI for you.
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.)
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

I have BT Infinity at home with the BT modem connected to the phone line and then to a BThub which delivers the wif signal. I have purchased an airport extreme to improve wi fi strength if how do I connect up to hub it states connect modem to WAN on back of Airport Extreme.
Instructions do not mention connection to BT Hub and the BT modem has only one output which you dicsonnect from Hub and connect to airport extreme leaving. Once you do this Hub has no signal.
    How do I rectify
    Paul

you can also set up the Airport extreme to extend the wireless by hitting the wireless tab in the airport menu then click the drop down menu to select extend
Apple's "extend" function is a proprietary setting that was designed to only work with other Apple routers.
It would be extremely unlikely that this setting would work with a BT product, or any other manufacturer's product for that matter.
But, I haven't tested this with a BT product...and I suppose anything is possible.
Still, I would be extremely surprised if this worked.
The AirPort Extreme might "join" the BT network if you try this......but the AirPort does not provide any additional wireless signal coverage when it "joins" a wireless network. In fact, it really does nothing when it "joins" a network except enable the USB port.

  • ITeleport fails to connect thru new Airport Extreme

I have been trying all Summer to get an iPad I, running iTeleport, to create an external connection, (not wi-fi), to my MacBook Pro through Airport Extreme. I am using a dynamic domain server, (No-IP), and port forwarding in the Airport Extreme. (This is a brand new Airport Extreme.) Wi-fi and un-encrypted external connections work fine.
A non-secure, (un-encrypted) connection works fine but if I encrypt iTeleport, it fails to connect at all.
There was no problem with a prior router but when I replaced it with Airport Extreme it ceased working.
The iTeleport tech support has nothing left to try and Apple tech support cannot discuss it.
Wonder if anybody else has seen similar problem?
I hate to trash the Airport extreme but I am out of ideas.
Thanks for any help -- Jack

  • Can I use Airport Express to connect to a printer, Time Machine Back up drive, second b/u drive, and scanner through a USB hub? if so, how?

I have an Airport Express that connects to my printer. I'd like to add a scanner, and two back up drives (one for use with Time Capsule, another specifically for photographs backed up from Adobe Lightroom.
The printer connects to the Airport Express through a USB hub and is recognized.  I cannot get the scanner nor either of the back up drives to be recognized.  Is there a way to do it or will I need to rely on a USB hub wired to the USB port of the MacBookPro?  If it is possible, can you walk me through the set up for each?
    Thanks,
    Doug Earle

I'd like to add a scanner, and two back up drives (one for use with Time Capsule, another specifically for photographs backed up from Adobe Lightroom.
Unfortunately, the USB port on the AirPort Express will only work with a compatible printer.
It will not work with a scanner, copier, or hard drive.
It should be possible to do what you want by connecting a powered USB hub to your Mac and then connecting the devices to the powered hub.
The setup for the scanner and hard drive would be covered by the manfacturers documentation, so providing specific advice for those types of products would be outside the realm of this support area.
But, if you can provide model numbers, it is always possible that another user who is using those products might see this post.

There are a number of posts related to copying issues between Windows Vista / 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
From the Windows Vista / 7 desktop, click Start
    Search for: security
    Click 'Local Security Policy'
Goto Local Policies > Security Options
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    Click OK
     To disable Windows Search:
Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the AirPort base station and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name. From the AirPort Utility, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab. On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

Have you attempted to reset the SMC? That would be the first step. Hold the left control, option, shift key and the power button for about 5 seconds and release. Then try to reboot. Might as well reset the PRAM as well. Hold command, option, P, R on start up until the machine restarts. If that doesnt' have any affect we'll have to dig deeper into a potential hardware failure.
If this method doesn't work, check the webcam that will tell the problem is on the iSight & WiFi cable. If your webcam is ok, then it'll be the WiFi card problem. Hope it can help ;-)

  • Why does my mac say "failed to connect to the device" when I try to print through airport express?

So a little back ground.  I have a unibody 2 ghz core 2 duo running 10.5.8 and a mac book air running 10.7.5.  I set a airport express and added a new printer to both computers using bonjour.  My mac air has no problem connecting and printing but my unibody does.  The "failed to connect to device" message come up after I open print que for that printer and then utility.  It unibody sees the printer through bonjour and installs the printer but when asked to connect, nothing happens.  can anyone help please?

If you updated from a previous version of OS X to 10.9 and had an older version of driver installed, then you can get this message. Sometimes a quick fix is to reset the printing system. Note that this action will remove all devices from the Printers & Scanners preference pane, but not the supporting drivers, so if you do have other printers or scanners on this Mac you will have to add them again.

airport extreme può essere utilizzata con decoder my sky e lettore WD live hub posti ad un secondo piano per accedere a NAS e on demand?

  • In 10.7 my Airport Disks only connect once...

    Here is my setup:
I have a MBP that used to run 10.6.x. I had an AExtBS and two satellite AExpBSes, one of which was hooked up to a very nice stereo. My iTunes library is very very large - several Ts of lossless audio. That library lives on a drive that is connected to a powered USB hub. There are actually two drives connected to that hub, one of which is my iTunes library and one of which is a backup drive. That hub is connected into the back of my AExtBS.
Under 10.6.x I used to two two things successfully. The first thing I used to do was backup to one of the drives connected via that powered hub to my AExtBS. I understand that this is controversial, and that the official line from Apple is that it's not supported (and then it is, and then it isn't again). But, the on-the-ground reality is that it worked wonderfully for years, and successfully data demonstrated no problems. Since I have upgraded to 10.7.x a couple of weeks ago, I have not tried to backup yet. However, more importantly, is problems with my audio.
Under 10.6.x I used to be able to click on my AExtBS, and after a few seconds the drives would appear. Then I would click on my music drive, and once I saw the confirming arrow, then I could choose the remote iTunes library and play music either through my computer or through one of my satellite AExpBSes. Since I have upgraded to 10.7.x, I am seeing an unusual behaviour. I can follow the same steps I just listed once successfully. But, if I close the computer, or go to another network and return, or anything of that sort, when I return the computer to my network I cannot get the AExtBS to respond as a device with remote drives. If I click on the drive, if attemtps to connect for a looooong time and then eventually refuses the connection. In fact, something unusual must be happening to the AExtBS itself, because I cannot even get the settings to open in either version of the Airport Utility. Restarting (unplugging and plugging back in) the AExtBS doesn't even work. The only way I can get the AExtBS to respond is if I walk down to it and depress the reset button - not for five second, but just for one tap. That does something, and once it goes green again I can get back into it via Airport Utility and I can access my msuci again... until my computer leaves the network or goes to sleep.
This never ever happened under 10.6.x, so my initial thought is that it is an OS issue - something about how the OS is interacting with the AExtBS as a file source is confusing to the router. Any thoughts?

So, I tried resetting the AEBS and that worked for a day. Then it went back to the error. I was booted and I still cannot connect to my Airdisk. Never had this problem in 10.6.x. Any thoughts?
This problem is just for connection to the directory, not for backing up.

  • Airport Express (not n) with ethernet hub and as wireless base

    Will Airport Express do this?
I've got a cable modem. It connects by ethernet to a hub. Airport Express (not n) connects to the hub by ethernet. My laptops (MacBook and HP 69xx WinXP Pro) connect to AX and internet just fine.
In that same hub, I want to connect a D-Link DNS323, which I wish to be made accessible to the wireless network provided by AX. Here's a sort-of diagram:

modem ---> hub <--- Airport Express <--- laptops, AppleTV, etc. by wireless

    D-Link

Can AX (old style, not n version) use its ethernet connector to both communicate with my cable modem and with other wired ethernet devices through my hub?
Thanks for helping. I tried searching for similar posts, but I failed to find an answer.

With only the hub, the NAS, and the express, you can't access both the internet and the NAS wirelessly at the same time. Here's why:
The AirPort Express has only one Ethernet port. That port can either act as a WAN port or a LAN port, but not both at the same time.
You need the Express to be connected to the internet. Unless you have another wireless router (Apple or otherwise), it will have to be connected through its Ethernet port. Therefore, the Ethernet port must act as a WAN port.
The NAS, on the other hand, is part of your network. For it to be connected, the port must act as a LAN port.
This means that the NAS can't be connected to the Express via Ethernet because then the port would need to act both as a LAN port and a WAN port, which it can't do.
This means you'll need an additional wireless router if you want to access both the internet and the NAS at the same time.
If you have another wireless router (it doesn't have to be an AirPort), I can help you configure it to work with your current network so that you can access the NAS.
