AirPort graphite setup

Hello,
Please excuse the manner in which I am communicating. However, I am unable to "post" anything as there is no link for me to do so. Therefore, I am forced to jump into this discussion.
I just got off the phone with Apple Technical Support and they were unable to help me with this issue. They suggested that I try posting a question here.
When I purchased my Powerbook G4 in 2001, I purchased an Airport Base Station (which I found out today is "Graphic"). I have never needed to use it until today, which is the first time I've had it out of the box. I currently use OS X (10.3.9) and have tried to use the setup assistant (for Airport Extreme) in my utilities folder. However, whenever I use this assistant, it give me the message "No new AirPort networks were found." Apple Tech Support and I determined that my everything is connected properly and is in range of my computer. They suggested that I unplug both my cable modem (which is by Motorola) and my AirPort and to shut down my computer. After a few minutes, I restarted everything and was faced with the same problem. The rep at Tech Support suggested I try posting because he did not have information for the base station as it was too old.
I also tried using the setup assistant that came with the original software. However, it keeps trying to open up OS 9, which I no longer have on my computer.
Is there any way for me to use this base station?
Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide!

I have also tried using the "AirPort Admin Utility" with the same results.

  • Once airport is setup, does it need to be connected via ethernet all the time?

Once airport is setup, does it need to be connected to the router with an ethernet cable all the time?

AirPort Setup....the configuration utility in Mountain Lion...will look at the connection and configure the Express accordingly.
If you have an Ethernet cable connected during the setup, then you will need to leave the Ethernet cable connected after the setup.
If you want the Express to connect using wireless only....then you must configure it using wireless only.

  • Worse signal with Airport Graphite after Leopard upgrade

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Leopard. Since then, I havent been able to get a full signal with my Airport Graphite. I've read the posts here about Leopard and Airport graphite's inability to be detected by the airport utility program. The same thing has happened to me. I tried resetting my airport base station but even that i couldnt do. Please help

that does make sense, that it could be the old ones.
BUT - people are having tons of wireless problems with NEW airport extremes,
airport express, and other manufacturer's wireless routers, too. There are numerous posts on the forums about all kinds of wireless issues with Leopard.

  • Download Airport Express Setup Software

I no longer have the CD containing the Airport Express setup software. Is there somewhere that I can download the Windows version so that I can get the Airport Express working again?

You can configure your Airport Express using Airport 4.2 for Windows available here:

  • Anyone with a working TC - Airport Express setup out there?

Anyone with a working TC - Airport Express setup (wireless) out there?
My setup is super slow and has dropouts all the time!

I have an AEBS connected to my cable modem, TC connected wirelessly to the network. TC dropps the connection all the time (what a pain!). I also have 2 x 500Gb USB drives connected to the Tc via a USB hub. The interesting thing is if I have mounted both USB drives while the Tc connection is working, I don't los connection to the USBs, just the TC hard drive (TM won't backup because it can't see the TC hard drive). BTW, speed is definitely not an issue and I have "interference robustness" active as I have a cordless 2.4GHz phone.
Still working to troubleshoot and will keep you posted!

  • Can't see Airport Express unit, nor Airport Express Setup in my Network Settings

I can see my Airport Express in the Airport Express Utility App, lights are all green, but I can't see the unit, nor see the Airport Express Setup section inside my Network Settings. This is the case when trying to find the WiFi signal from 3 MacBookPros, as well as my iPad and iPhone (all running latest OS versions). I've been through the screenshots on line about how easy this is supposed to be to set up, but I cannot see the Express units at all. Oh, and I've downloaded the firmware updates and recycled the unit. No change. Bad Unit?

Do you want the Express to create a wireless network?
How did you configure the Express to connect to the Internet, and how are you connecting to the Internet now?
Here are the instructions: http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1613/en_US/airport_express_80211n_2 nd_gen_setup_guide.pdf

  • HT1515 Mavericks does not anymore support former versions of Airport Express Setup tool. Any suggestion ?

Maverick's Airport Express setup tool (>= v6) is no longer supporting old versions of Airport Express device.
I could not notice this limitation before moving to Mavericks, and so far, I have no other alternative than buying a more recent version of Airport Express to be able to reconfigure it to fit in my new home wifi configuration.
Is anyone facing the same issue ?
Such an obsolescence planning is unacceptable from Apple. They shoud solve this mistake through a new release of the Airport Express configuration tool, but at this point I'm not really sure they will do it one day...
Is anyone also frustrated or upset with this ?
    Thanks,
    Philippe.

There are literally hundreds of posts on this topic that offer a number of solutions. You may want to search the Discussions forum to access them ... and yes, there are a number of frustrated users due to this.
Basically you have the following choices:
Use a Mac running an earlier OS X version that supports v5.6 of the AirPort Utility.
Run a virtual machine on your Mac that is running an earlier OS X version.
    Use a Windows-based PC.
Update to a newer base station.
There are also a couple of other solutions / "hacks" that involve Terminal edits or using script files that are not supported by Apple.

  • Airport Express setup not allowing shared net connection when on WDS

    Hi,
I have an Airport Extreme setup as WDS Main and an Airport Express setup as WDS Remote. But Doing this I am unable to receive shared net connection from Extreme to Express using Airport Setup Utility. It will only allow networking and not internet.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

Internet connection sharing must be set up on the main base station in your network, which would be the base station that is connected to your cable or DSL modem.
Internet connection sharing must not be enabled on any of the remote base stations in your WDS. So... what I'm saying is do not touch the configuration of your Airport Express.
Once you have enabled internet connection sharing on the main base station and the main base station has rebooted, then pull power for a moment to the Airport Express to force a reconnection to the base station.
If you still have problems, please describe to us how your network is set up in detail. If you have a typical network with a cable/DSL modem connection to an Airport Extreme base station, and that base station and an Airport Express are configured to form a WDS, you have an extremely basic setup that the Airport Utility should have had no trouble configuring for you. It really shouldn't be difficult!
Addendum - after thinking about your problem a bit more, I thought I should probably ask you to explain in more detail exactly what the symptoms are when you state that "But Doing this I am unable to receive shared net connection from Extreme to Express using Airport Setup Utility. It will only allow networking and not internet." Perhaps I'm not understanding the problem. Are you saying that none of the computers connected to your network are able to access the internet - but everything else on your network works just fine?

  • Airport express setup (invalid IP?)

i have a few questions about my current airport express setup. i recently purchased one for use in my dorm to create a wireless network. the connection i have in my dorm is currently only wired. i installed the software and plugged in my airport express with the ethernet cable connected to the wall jack.
the problem i'm having, after running the setup through the airport utility, is that i do not get a valid ip address from the wall jack to my airport. i've tried multiple remedies and searching online for a solution. so is it even possible to setup a wireless network with my airport this way? if so, what steps should i take to fix this problem? any help is appreciated. thanks.
    calvin

I'm having the exact same issue (I'm getting internet from a DSL router). I've sent my school the Ethernet MAC address and they informed me that it had been registered and I was to reset the Airport. I reset both it and the DSL router and still my Airport will not recognize the IP address of the modem. It still says a 169.etc.. number.
Obviously, this isn't an answer to your post but just wanted to let you know so if you figure out a solution let me know!
    Thanks!

  • Airport Graphite -- strange exceptions

I recently snapped up an Airport Graphite at a yard sale. I got it working with my SBC DSL and my iBook G3, but there are a few things it just won't do.
Most annoying is that I cannot send e-mail messages from webmail. I can read the account, organize and delete messages, and compose messages, but when I click "send," it just hangs there and ultimately times out.
This is true regardless of how strong the wireless signal. Any thoughts?

    David,
To fix this temporarily (ie. until you power off), go to Applications>Utilities>Terminal
When the terminal window comes up, type
    sudo ifconfig en1 mtu 1454
hit enter. it may ask for your password - put that in and hit enter. Type exit, hit enter again and close terminal. You're now good to go. I don't know how to make this permanent so you'll have to do this every time you switch on your Mac. I have asked the question in my own post "Permanent MTU Change in 10.3". Hopefully someone more technical will come along and put us out of our misery!
    Regards,
    Dan

  • Quicksilver ethernet and extreme AirPort graphite

I have have an original airport graphite. I use the graphite airport to run my home network. I have a Dual 800 power pc g4 "quicksilver" desktop with an original airport card, running 10.4.11, a 2 GHZ Intel Core Duo iMac with an AirPort Extreme Airport card, running 10.4.11. A 2.1 GHZ intel Core Duo Mac Book with an AirPort Extreme Airport card running 10.5.7, and a first generation ipod touch running 3.0.I have a DSL modem from Qwest
If I buy an air port extreme can I take out the original airport card from the quicksilver and run an ethernet cable from the airport extreme to the quicksilver and gain some faster performance? My other two macs should function just fine with the a wireless extreme and I in theory get much better range with my ipod touch
will this work? will it be difficult to set up or should it just be prety much plug and play

well since no one saw fit to answer my question the answer is yes! it does work I drove to the local best buy......if you can call local 120 miles, purchased the air port extreme drove home and had everything running in 35 minutes, and the touch hauls ***

  • Airport Graphite and G4 1.0 dual MDD upgrade

I have a G4 1.0 dual MDD on OS 10.4.5 with Airport card and using an original Graphite Base station. All has worked just fine with occaisional reset needed on a SBC DSL Speedstream modem. Will I benefit in download speed in real time to upgrade to a newer Airport Extreme Basestation or is the Airport card B a bottleneck? Could I replace the Airport card with a PCI wireless G access point in the tower and gets things to work faster or is it really a waste of money (both new base station and PCI card) for negible gains? Main concern is OS updates are being packaged with 124 MB files and I just spent over 2 hours completing the downloads and installs for OS 10.4.3 to OS 10.4.5. Will a "new" wireless setup really cut the time down by a factor of 4 or 5? Thanks

The bottleneck is the ISP. Most ISP services have effective download speeds slower than the ABS.

  • The difference between the airport graphite and snow??

I bought an old graphite base station hopeing to use the airport card inside to use in my MDD Mac. The Lucent card functioned perfectly except it has a built-in antenna so you can not the antenna cable in the MDD nor can you fully close the access door.. The antenna is where the receptacle should be. I understand there is a different card in the snow (not extreme) base station. Does any one know whether that card has a built in antenna or a receptacle for an external antenna? I know there are the old style airport cards on eBay foe about $30 but old airport base stations run about $5 at garage sales.

The antenna is built into the case in the Snow model. Click here for more information.
