AirPort hardware no longer being recognized! Help!

I know this is something I should just take in to the Genius Bar, but I figured I would see if I can get any answers here first.
I use a PowerBook G4 running 10.4.8 (yes, I need to upgrade) and my laptop came with an AirPort card installed. I have had no problems up until recently with the use of my AirPort. What is happening is that my laptop has stopped recognizing the card completey. This is NOT a connection issue, this is directly related to the fact that the laptop "thinks" there is no card when, in fact, there is. I have not had any work done on it so there is no way it could have been removed. The only answer I can come up with is that it took a light fall and it may have knocked the card out of place (if that's possible) or somehow damaged it so that it no longer works.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening and if so, is there a way to fix it?
Thankfully I also have ethernet and it is still fully operational, so I know it is in no way related to the laptop's ability to connect.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe you need to upgrade to 10.4.10
after all it is a free Update.
I think that will fix your issue.

  • Airport express no longer being recognized

I previously had my home network set up and working with no problems.
I have an airport base station and I have an airport express that I use to print wirelessly.
After one of the recent updates, my airport express was no longer recognized by the airport utility but if I do an airport scan, an apple network with a random name was showing up.
I tried to update the settings on that network to extend my existing network that is working fine in order to be able to print.
Now the apple network that was showing up in an airport scan isn't even showing up anymore and I can't seem to figure out what to do next.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem.
After OS Update 10.5.5, my Airport Express has been failing every other day. It usually takes me 5 or 6 tries to get it running again, but at that point I get really frustrated.
Reset (via little tiny button on bottom, hold until orange light flashes fast), then unplug the Airport. Unplug the modem - wait a few seconds - plug in the Airport, THEN the modem.
Of course then you have to go to Airport Utility and search for the Airport. Sometimes it never finds it and I cannot understand why. When it does find it, it will be labeled APPLE XXXXX <-- random numbers.. Then set up your wireless network.
I hope Apple fixes this little disconnecting bug, it's really frustrating.

my ipod touch 2g is no longer being recognized by itunes why and what can i do i have reset it and everything

If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Okay everyone I was able to resolve the issue with my scanner.
After posting here I recalled how my wireless mouse was acting up and the step I took to resolve that issue, so after uninstalling the hp software I went to the Library/Preference folder and removed all the hp scanjet plist and all the other related scanjet files.
I emptied the trash can and restarted my computer and then reinstalled the updated driver and "walaa" I was once again able to create magic.

  • My Lacie Hard Drive is no longer being recognized by my MacBook, please help.

    Hi all,
I have a Lacie external hard drive (LaCie Rugged XL eSATA 3Gb/s | USB 2.0) that I have been using on my MacBook (timemachine) (late 2008, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with OS X 10.9.1). One day it stopped being recognized, not showing up on the desk top, the disk utility program, etc.
I Googled many articles, blogs and support communities but have yet to find any solution. I also went to the Lacie support site and followed the trouble shooting instructions - changed my power source, usb cable, and tried the drive out on 3 different computers. The results: The drive works fine on the other computers (OS X and Windows) using the same power and usb cords. So Lacie recommened I contact Apple but my MacBook is not under warranty so I have decided to try my luck with the Apple Support Community. If any one has had this problem or knows the solution, please let me know. I would like to continue to use my MacBook with this Lacie hard drive.
    Thanks

    Hi Dibenkorn,
Yes, both USB ports are not recognizing this lacie external hard drive. I also tried the SMC reset but that did not change anything. I have another external hard drive (smaller one) and it works on this computer fine and like I said before the Lacie works fine on my other (older) MacBook. I just can not figure out what went wrong or what happened...

  • Imac G5 airport hardware no longer recognized

I have a 1st gen. imac G5. I've had it hard-connected to a network via ethernet. Before I moved, however, I used a wireless network. Lately, the computer fails to recognize that it even has wireless networking hardware. According to apple's website, I can change the airport card in this model, however after opening it up, it looked nothing like the illustrated instructions. There was no indication of airport hardware that I could fix/replace myself. Also, My computer has been have frequent "kernel panic" gray-screen-of-death issues at startup. I read briefly that this can have something to do with faulty wireless network software / hardware. Question: are these issues related? How can I fix my wireless problem? Thanks.

Are you sure you had the correct manual for your model computer?

  • DVD not longer being recognized on iMac with Lion

Looking for help / ideas.  I don't do this often, but placed a DVD in mac to watch a movie and it's not being recognized.

Is it doing the same thing with all discs or just the one disc? If it is just the one disc then your drive is fine and it's more likely the disc at fault, but if it's happening with several discs it points to the drive itself.
You could try running a cleaning disc through it and see if that helps.

  • Headset No Longer Being Recognized

    Hi,
I am currently using the Nokia X3 mobile phone with the nokia headphones that came with it. Everything was working fine this morning until this afternoon i plugged my headphones in again and they are not being recognized as being inside the phone meaning that any music or radio i play is played out loud through the speaker.
I have tried using different headphones and they seem to be working fine and i have also tried the nokia headset i use for my phone in my computer and the headset also seems to be working fine in the computer.
I was wondering if someone could please tell me how to solve this problem?
any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

I have the same problem, I ordered a new set of WH 05 headphones and they work fine.
It's not the first Nokia I've had this problem with, I believe its to do with the remote(end call/skip) function being damaged when the headphones are used on a non-Nokia device.
I think the moral of the story is don't use Nokia remote headphones on anything non-Nokia...

  • IPod classic no longer being recognized by iTunes

iPod classic version 2.0.4 is not showing up in my iTunes anymore. I can see it listed in my device manager under Other Devices as iPod with a yellow exclamation point, although I've followed the instructions in this article iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows and I get an error stating "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The system cannot find the file specified."
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes already. I also have an iTouch 5th gen which is being recognized fine, the same iPod classic is being recognized on my laptop fine but my pc is what has all my music is.

I am having the exact same problem.  My ipod has been stuck in disk mode for over two hours and now itunes is frozen.

  • IPad 1st gen no longer being recognized by iTunes on my mac, neither being charged, help please i need to sync it

My iPad is being used by a younger sibling, who usually plugs in and out the charger, the iPad is chargable, but it wont connect to my mac, not charge either.

I'm thinking the cable has been damaged. Get a new one. They're not expensive. Many stores, like WalMart, have them.
Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Ethernet to USB adaptor no longer being recognized by my mbp

I have an older macbook pro, which is running mac os x 10.5.8. The ethernet port is broken so I have been using a mac Ethernet to USB cable because there is no wifi at my college. I got the cable to work for a while, then I unplugged it and my computer no longer recognizes it. When I used to unplug it and plug it in I would get a message by the airport symbol that said something along the lines of ( new network usb-ethernet availible, which then would allow me to go into network preferences and give me the option to connect to the usb ethernet).  Now when I go to setting with the usb ethernet device plugged in I no longer get the option to use usb-ethernet adaptor, and cannot connect to the internet.
Both the cable and port have been tested and they both work. I also havn't installled any new software recently so I have no idea what I have done wrong.
    Thanks for your help

  • Time Capsule no longer being recognized

    Hi guys,
I currently connect to the internet via a USB dongle. I bought a time capsule with the intention of just using it for storage purposes for the time being (and eventually also as a router once I arrange to have a proper broadband connection installed).
When I originally installed the time capsule, it was recognized by my iMac with seemingly no issues. At the same time, I was using an airport express with airtunes, which I also had no problems with. Even though I don't have an internet connection that could be used with the apple wifi gear, I was able to set up a basic wifi network using the iMac which seemed to work without any problems.
Now, however, my mac won't pick up either the time capsule or airport. I'm running airport utility and it comes back with zero results. Both the time capsule and airport flash amber lights. I'm wondering if I've made some change to my wifi network settings in leopard that is causing the problem? The issue seemed to manifest itself around the same time I downloaded the latest version of Airport Utility...
Out of interest, my powerbook won't pick up either of the wifi devices either. I don't have much experience with networking on macs, and I suspect if I had a 'real' internet connection running into the time capsule this probably wouldn't be an issue, but would like to get this sorted in the interim is possible. I've tried reseting both the time capsule and the airport express, and also playing about with the network control panel, all with no success. I'm a bit lost where to go from here. Any advice gratefully received!

Try cycling Airport on your Mac.
    *Cycle Airport Preferences*
    Open Network Preferences.
Click “Turn Airport Off”, wait 10 seconds.
Now click “Turn Airport On”. Close Prefs.
Does it now show up in Airport Utilities?.
If not go to the “File” menu and select “Rescan”.
    Does it appears now?.
If not, unplug the TC, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
Does the TC show up now in Airport Utility?
Let us know if this resolves your issue.
    Cheers

  • Re: Keyboard no longer being recognized in game apps!

This one is quite a baffling.  I finally upgraded from an iMac PPC G5 Light Sensor system running 10.5.9 to the new iMac Intel 3.1 GHz quad core i5 running 10.7.2 with 16 GB of RAM.  Great system, loving the 27" monitor but I did invest some extra cash in a 2 GB video card to make game play that much better.  That said, when I first got the system fully operational I tried playing The Force Unleashed using the wireless keyboard and track pad, it was a tricky set up but everything worked perfectly.
A couple days later I came back to play the game and surprise the keyboard was no longer recognized except when I use "command Q" to quit the game, weird.  I open a couple of other games and the same story though I am unable to quit out of those games, that was annoying.  I tried deleting all the bluetooth devices and re-adding them, no dice.  I tried using a usb keyboard, also no affect.  I went out and bought an xBox USB game controller and loaded the software to use it. The controller is seen and I was able to configure the xBox controller in the finder but once again it doesn't work in the game and The Force Unleashed even has an option for it.
I have gone over the system prefs panes for both the keyboard and the track pad, resetting them to factory defaults but still the same story.  This is baffling because the keybaord and track pad worked great for a few days and now I can't seem to get any interface device to work with the games I own.  I am now guessing it's one of two things, first when the bluetooth interface data was imported from my PPC iMac it got corrputed and is causing these problems.  I say this because the keyboard that came with the new system failed to work even after I delete the older bluetooth keyboard profile and recreated a new profile for the new keyboard (the newer keyboard magically started working after many hours of attempting to re-associating it with the new iMac).  Second, there could be some odd instability with Lion's interface drivers or the interface driver architecture as I have been a Mac engineer for many years and have never seen anything quite as baffling as this problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!  In the meantime I am building an external tech drive with plans to boot from it and run DiskWarrior 4.4 against the new system in the hope of repairing an corrupted files that might be causing this issue.  Cheers!

Vaio wouldn't know Mac file system from a hole in the wall unless it has Mediafour's Macdrive software.
It isn't so much updating 10.3, it is more updating your Disk Warrior to match your operating system. What version of Disk Warrior do you have?
P.S. note this is the 10.4 forums for Tiger. 10.3 is Panther. Future questions regarding 10.3 should be directed to the 10.3 and earlier forums. Though I'm happy to continue to try to solve your problem here.
