I have an airport extreme and express, if I use the extreme as a base station connected to my old router can I use the express to extend the signal while also creating a new network that only I can use? Essentially having two wifi connection off the same network? If so how do I set this up?

Extending using a wireless connection always results in a performance compromise.
If the Express is going to extend using a wireless connection, then the Express will need to be located about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where you need more wireless coverage. The more that you have line-of-sight between the Extreme and Express, the better the network will operate.
Remember......the Express can only "extend" the quality and signal speed that it receives, so it needs to be located where it can get a very good signal from the Extreme. Although Apple cleverly uses the term "extend", a more accurate term for the Express would be "repeater".
If the Express will extend by connecting to the Extreme using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection......highly recommended for best performance.....then the Express can be located exactly where you need more wireless coverage. There is no signal loss at all through the Ethernet cable, so the Express gets a full speed signal no matter where it might be located.
Post back to let us know which way to you want to go.

  • Help, I cannot connect to the internet via airport with either my Imac or I-Pad.  Connecting via ethernet works okay for Imac.  I can connect wirelesssly with my windows laptop.  I have reset my router, created a new network. It was all okay on Monday

Normally I have my IMac, I-Pad and Windows Laptop all working on my home network via wi-fi. This week I find that I cannot access the inetrnet on my IMac or I-pad via wi-fi but I can connect to the internet via wi-fi with my windows based laptop.
The airport diagnostics (reds/yellows) indcate that I am connected
I can access the internet if I plug my IMac into the router via an ethernet cable
I have restarted the IMac and the I-Pad, rebooted the router and created a new network.  None of these changes has made a difference.  Does anyone have any ideas please?

  • I have gifted an airport extreme to a neighbor and I assumed she would be able to connect and "create a new network" with a new password on her iPhone. That didn't happen. It keeps asking for my password. What next? Thanks!

Have them perform a complete power recycle of their networking hardware. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details. Also, make sure that they perform a "factory default" reset on the AirPort (as described in the tip) to be sure to return the AirPort back to its "out-of-th-box" configuration.

  • Can't create a new network

    Hi,
I installed my airport express software and configured my system to connect via airport to my DSL internet service using DHCP. I'm now connected to the internet wirelessly, but the airport setup assistant won't allow me to create a new network so that I can print wirelessly. It tells me that there's an error with my airport extreme card and that I need to make sure it's installed correctly. What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    Stew

Do you have another wireless base station? If so, simply configure the AirPort Express (AX) following the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • BUG: Access Connect Abort, when I create a new network profile.

    Where can I report bugs?
My system is windows xp sp2 on X60.
I have been using AC-4.42(Access Connection) for a long time. And before,  there is no problem when I added new network profile into it.
But yesterday, I wanted to add a new profile into it. I opened the "create profile" window and input the name of the new profile (I have two network adapters, wired and wireless. So by default, the both are selected. And I left the default selection unchanged.), then "Next". The 2nd window is about wireless config, I configured everything, then go on "Next", at this moment, an error occured and AC aborted with four error windows. The titles of those windows are "ACMainGUI.exe error" and "ACMainGUIWnd: ACMainGUI.exe".
Then I did it again, I opened the "create profile" window, and this time, in this (1st) window, I changed the selection of network adapter, besides inputing the name of the new profile. I only selected the wired adapter, and then "Next". Sadly, this time the 2nd(next) window did not appear(pop up) at all. Instead, those four error windows poped up one by one.  AC aborted again.
I repeated the above operations many times, and everytime, AC aborted.
So I went to the online "support and download" to look for some updates about AC. And I found AC-4.52 with luck. After downloading and installing, unfortunately the problem still exists. AC-4.52 still aborts when I create a new network profile.
So now, what to do. I have no ways. I am expecting the developers could note this problem and fix it and give me a newer update as soon as possible.
    Sigh...

I have exactly the same issue. Next to the actions mentioned by ixbm I have also fully uninstalled and reinstalled the AC-4.52, but this didn't help.
Any idea on how to solve, installing older version?
    regards,
    Bart

  • Time Capsule - Create a new network or join existing?

    Hello Folks,
So I got my new 2TB Time Capsule and I was reading through the discussion forum on how to set thip up.
I already have wifi in my home and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to connect the TC to the existing wifi network or create a new one?
I have my Wii, a smart TV, a mac, a pc, a printer,  2 iphones and a tablet already using my exisitng wifi connection and it all works very well.
Ideally, I would like TC to use the exisitng wifi, but I did read a few comments that this may not provide the best performance and creating a new network would be a better option.
    Appreciate your feedback.
    Thanks,
    Abzt.

Do not use join wireless network.. that is slow as slow.
Set the TC to bridge mode and plug it into the current router by ethernet.
Then you have a number of choices.. you can turn off wireless..
Or run a separate wireless network but nothing actually connects to it.
Or use roaming.. ie use the exact same name as present wireless.. same security same password.. and the TC can reinforce the existing wireless.. the best way to do this is in an area of the house that has poor wireless but you can run ethernet to it.. if it doesn't exist just use a standard ethernet patch lead 3 or 4M long and connect the TC there.

  • Setting up a time capsule without creating a new network.

I want to set up my time machine but without creating a new network. However, my current network doesn't allow to connect a router to the network. When I connect the energy cable to the time capsule it keeps flashing an amber light. When I open the AirPort is says that it didn't find the base stations of AirPort and will keep searching.

To setup a TC.. without creating a new network.. and current network doesn't allow a router to connect.. sorry you have just created a conundrum.. nobody can give you an answer to that. It is impossible to use the TC in that case. It is 100% only a network drive. You should get an external drive and plug it into the computer.
The only solution is to have two networks.. if the current network cannot be used even with a bridged TC.
As long as you have a Mac with both wireless and ethernet you can do it.
See instructions I have with all the screen shots near the bottom of this thread.

  • Applescript to create a New Network

    Hi all!
I'd like to build an applescript to create a New Network on Mac OS 10.6.
The script should run on a computer without a screen, and I will interact with the Mac through a VNC application on an Ipad, which I already have. So I need to know that every time the IP address of the private network will be the same.
I'm very new to Applescript so i was wondering if you could give me some tip on how to start, I've been trying with no success since yesterday but I know it can't be that difficult!
    thanks!

OK, that helps a little, but not a lot... I'm still not getting it - or maybe you're not...?
Is the machine local to the iPad - i.e. are they on the same LAN?
If the machines are remote then creating a new wireless network isn't going to help since you'd also need to configure your router for port forwarding, etc.
If the machines are on the same LAN, though, the iPad should be able to connect directly - without any internet exposure - so you don't need to create a new network. You should be able to just configure the wireless network with a specific, known IP address and connect to that... unless you don't have a base station...?

  • Currently use Airport Express -1st Generation-to access internet -purchased 2014 Airport Extreme base station -can I import Express back up configuration to keep current settings . Or is it best to do new Airport Extreme as a new Network .

Currently use Airport Express -1st Generation-to access internet -purchased 2014 Airport Extreme base station -can I import Express back up configuration to keep current settings . Or is it best to do new Airport Extreme as a new Network .

Just spoke with Cisco about the router.  They said the router is compatible with the E1500.  They suggested that I contact Apple to see if their default IP address was that same as the router (192.168.1.1).  They told me I would have to change it if that was the case.  How would I do that?

  • Do you have to disable your Wifi on your existing Reuter if using time capsule to Create a new network

Does one need to disable the wifi on ones reuter if using a time capsule to create a new network what happens if you don't and what are the benefits of doing so

No but you may experience a bag of hurt from cross channel interference. You may have to reset the Subset Mask of one of the routers along with separating the broadcast channels.
Further if you then have one device a PC perhaps on one network and your Mac on another you may not be able to share files/ITunes etc.... with any ease.
So switching off the Wifi on the router/modem and hanging an Ethernet cable to the Time Capsule and setting that up as your WiFi router distributing the IP addresses over DHCP really is the least problematical approach.
IF you have cable Internet with a decoder with Ethernet output ditch your old router completely !

  • Do i have to reconnect all of my wireless devices if i creat a new network

Do I have to reconnect all of my wireless devices if I creat a new network with my new Time Capsule?

Not exactly sure what you mean.. if you create a new network using the same SSID and security as the previous network used.. then no wireless devices will need reconnecting.. but if it uses a new ssid..or different security settings.. (SSID is wireless name in apple speak.. ) then all wireless devices will need to be reconnected to work..
Or you might mean that both device are running in parallel.. and that is also fine.. bridge the TC and turn off its wireless. .then all devices that can connect to the TC will be able to..
There are 100 ways to skin the cat.. without knowing what you mean.. I have no way to answer other than the elves.. who always say yes and no.

  • How to add new network adapter to existing hyper-v server

    hello guys
now we have win2k8 r2 with installed hyper-v role.
we had a network adapter with 4 ports and these 4 NICs was installed before adding hyper-v role so we select the these 4 NICs when installing the hyper-v role as usual.
after that, we add other new network adapter with 4 NICs.
the problem that we can't see the new 4 NICs in hyper-v manager to create external connection.
    any suggestions ??

    Hi eng.magdy87,
Please ensure that the new NIC works properly .
I mean that you can try to set IP for that NIC to check if it works .
By the way , I added a new NIC for my hyper-v host (2008R2 ) and I can select it in virtual machine manager .
    Best Regards
