Airport - How Do I Start Installation From Scratch?

Here's the deal: After the most recent firmware update to airport extreme, it is totally hosed. I reset the airport but it isn't "broadcasting" so my computer doesn't see it even though it's only 2 feet away. Nothing works. If I reset the airport, go through the multitude of configuration menus, and finally get the airport to broadcast (indicator on top information bar full and in bold), after clicking on the update button after reconfiguring, the airport stops broadcasting and the process fails. So, I want to wipe the whole configuration out like I never installed it before - both on the computer and in the airport - and start all over again to hopefully get it working. Honestly, these firmware updates are not very intuitive and I'm to the point that if I ever get this thing working, I'm never going to update it ever again! Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply, Smokerz. If I understand your post, I should disconnect the Airport from the Ethernet, plug the Ethernet directly into the laptop and re-configure my network for the Airport? It's funny because I did that this morning before I read your post and I then couldn't access the Internet while being plugged directly into my DSL box. I had to reconfigure my network settings first. With network settings properly applied, should I be able to access the Internet either way - through the Airport or through a direct Ethernet connection to the laptop - or is it a one or the other scenario?
Thanks,
Karl

• HT204053 How do I delete my existing iCloud account (on ALL my apple devices), and start over from scratch??

How do I delete my existing iCloud account (across ALL my apple devices), and start over from scratch??
(cant seem to get calendars to ever sync right, on my devices, and across to my wifes'....so want to start with a "clean installation")

Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account (this disconnects the device from icloud but doesn't delete any data on icloud or on other devices).
If you then want to sign back in using a different ID, do so on the same screen.
I also strongly suggest that you and your wife use different icloud accounts, otherwise all your devices will have the same data on them, same emails, reminders, etc. Most likely not what you want.

• How can I delete all of my calendars and start over from scratch?

I am sure this is an easy question because it seems that others before me have probably been in this situation. I wish to delete my calendars (and todo lists, etc) in iCal. In essence I want to start over from scratch as if I had not yet used iCal.
Do you have any advice on how I can go about doing so?
Thanks!
Rod

Rod,
Select the calendar(s) you want to delete in the Calendars list on the left side of the iCal window. Then hit the delete key or select Delete from the Edit menu.

Could somebody tell me how I can start rmiregistry from the Eclipse IDE which is running j2se 5.0 ?
Also if I try starting from the command prompt I get

You need a plugin to start/stop your rmi registry. Search for plugins in google.
You need to set the classpath for starting the rmi registry from console.

• Updating to FF 4 yesterday completely wiped out my entire browsing history -- and started again from scratch as of yesterday. This is an extremely alarming, disappointing, upsetting discovery!!! Is there any way to restore / recover what was lost?

I went to "History" & found EVERYTHING wiped out & started again from scratch after d/loading new FF version. Most people are rabid about CLEARING History, but I use mine extensively. Finding it gone was not welcome. Any way to fix / recover this?

I had this problem but when downgrading from FF4 to FF3.6. I was able to recover everything, so maybe the solution is the same.
[[Profiles|Find your profile folder...]]
Close FF
If there is a file called places.sqlite.corrupt:
Rename places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old
Rename places.sqlite.corrupt to places.sqlite
Restart FF
And if there isn't well...sorry =/. You might want to save these files elsewhere too just in case before renaming them so they can be replaced.

• A way of wiping the iPod on my iPhone so I can start again from scratch?

I would like to take advantage of this free time over Easter to spring clean my iPod library on my iPhone - completely clear it out and start again from scratch. Is there any way I can just clear it all off without labouring through hours of control-clicking?

If the music was transferred via the iTunes sync process, deselect Sync Music under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply. The same under the Podcasts, Movies, and TV Shows tabs.
If you are manually managing music and videos, try deselecting manually manage music and videos under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences followed by selecting Apply.

You might have better luck using a clone.

• IDisk has started syncing from scratch?

As part of my back up strategy, I have also recently put a copy of all my photos onto iDisk.
This is approx 7000 files at 8GB and took the best part of a week to sync so that it was replicated on 'the cloud' at which point I then felt safe.
However, yesterday, my iDisk icon (the pink cloud disk icon) did not appear and instead a 'sparse image disk' icon appeared instead, and I got an error message about not being able to sync.
Today, I went into idisk preference, to find that iDisk Sync had turned to 'Off'
I turned it on and soon enough the iDisk icon came back. But...
The iDisk has started syncing from scratch. Ie trying to do the full 7000 files that will take a week!!?
Please help. Are my files still there? Why is trying to sync all these files again if so ? Am I somehow pointing to the wrong iDisk?
Many thanks in advance.

I also just noticed there is another disk mounted on my desktop with the same name as my iDisk but with the generic icon (ie the same as if you instert a memory stick)
This seems to have the files on it, but is this on my computer or in the cloud?
I'm losing confidence in the reliability of files stored in the cloud as part of a backup.

• How is I/O assistant installed correctly with a Labview 7.1 installation from scratch?

I had Labview 6.0 installed. I bought the upgrade to 7.1. From running into some problems NI tech support recommended removing 6.0 and installing 7.1 from scratch which I did and now all but one thing is ok. When I initialize the instrument I/O assistant I get a message stating that the assistant is not installed correctly and should be installed prior to 7.0. Then it says to reinstall the assistant from the device drivers cd which I have done as well as from the installation cd. I am still getting the error when starting the assistant. Anybody have any clues???

There is a bug in the Instrument I/O Assistant installer that is on the LabVIEW 7.1 Driver CD, where the I/O Assistant installer will not update the LabVIEW 7.1 support files necessary for it to work with LabVIEW 7.1.
Normally, if you installed the I/O Assistant off of the Driver CD first, and then LabVIEW 7.1, you could re-install the I/O Assistant off of the Driver CD to get your 7.1 support.
Because of the installer bug, you need to uninstall the I/O Assistant, and then install it again. You can uninstall the I/O Assistant by running the Driver CD and deselecting the option from the tree, or by going to add remove programs and removing it from there.
Sorry for the inconvenience. If you still have problems getting it to work, let me know and
I should be able to help you out. This bug is fixed in more recent editions of the NI Device Driver CD.

• How to keep the installer from installing iTunes in Program Files?

I am running Windows 7 64-bit. Because the folder "Program Files" is a protected folder in Windows I want to install iTunes under a folder "C:\Apple\iTunes". If I download iTunes and manually install it I can tell it to put it there and it installs there fine. If it tries to install iTunes under "C:\Program Files" all sort of problems are created. Sometimes ownership of the folder is lost and that is a real pain to fix so I can delete the program. Once after I created this folder and install iTunes under C:\Apple I received notice that the installer had an update to iTunes. I told it to install it and it replaced the one in the C:\Apple folder like it was supposed to. Since that one time, months ago, every time the installer goes to install an update it wants to put it in C:\Program Files and the installation fails. Sometimes I can actually delete the folder that it has created sometimes the ownership is messed up and I have to start up in Safe Mode to delete it. (A real pain.)
So can I prevent the installer from putting the updates in the C:\Program Files folder and if so how? It finds the old version, under C:\Apple, but won't put the new installation there, so it fails every single time.
Any ideas?

If you go to the standard download page it will detect the architecture of your PC and offer the correct installer. Up to iTunes 12.0 the "64 bit" versions of iTunes were actually 32-bit applications with a 64-bit installer - so will install in C:\Program Files (x86). As of iTunes 12.1 it is a "true" 64-bit application so installs in C:\Program Files.
You can avoid using the Apple Software Update by:
in iTunes, unchecking the Check for new software updates automatically box in Edit > Preferences > Advanced
in Apple Software Update, select the "Never" radio button in Edit > Preferences > Schedule
If you want to keep these active so that you're notified when there is a new version of iTunes available, just click Quit when the Updater opens and then install manually. There's no accessible option in the Updater to alter the target folder for automated installations. There's probably something in the Windows Registry that relates to this, but I'd be wary of changing this without substantial testing - there could be interaction/conflict with Windows settings regarding the correct location of 32- and 64-bit applications.

• How do you start up from an external hard drive

I read the one post about this but i was un clear. Im trying to find out how to do this for my friend with a G3 that is no longer working. They have an external hard drive that is firewire and the newest version of tiger. So if someone could give me a step by step guide how to install tiger on the external hard drive and then run it that way, that would be great. Thanks to anyone who answers and helps.

I was fooling around with my iBook and an external harddrive where I used CarbonCloner to clone my system. When that was done I found this link:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75459
Here it says I should:
Press Option-Command-Shift-Delete during startup
Bypass primary startup volume and seek a different startup volume (such as a CD or external disk)
I tried this and my iBook started up from my external harddrive....I think.....i actually couldn't tell the difference by looking at the desktop, everything seemed exactly the same, I guess because I booted from a cloned system....but when I used the keyboard sequence above, I noticed my external harddrive spinning and thought it was doing the work to start up my computer.
I don't think starting your computer using Target disc mode is right for you....
