Airport in Bridge mode "not a supported format." Are you F'n kidding me?

Forgive me if I'm freakin' a bit but I am at my wits end with Apple. Here's the breakdown.
Fiber DSL into a standard wired 4 port D-Link router. Router is connected to HP 24 port switch because the D-Link does not have enough ports for my house. Switch feeds cat5 to all rooms in the house. Airport Extreme (newest version) is in living room and set to Bridge mode. I use it to connect multiple items in my entertainment area and wireless access for the Macbooks and iPhones.
Up to a few weeks ago I was connecting my iMac via wireless but got sick of the connection dropping (pings would be unresponsive for minutes on end). I ended up moving my desk and plugging into a cat5 port on the wall. Well guess what... it's still dropping. OK, I removed everything from the network and started adding things one at a time over the past few days. Everything was running better than ever until I plugged the Airport back into the network. Mind you, I'm not running my iMac into the Airport, it is simply on the same network.
After shaking my head for a while I called Apple. Well I just got off the phone w/ Tier 3 tech support for the Airport Extremes. I tell them that I have no idea why, but I'm only dropping connections when the Airport is on the network and I'm just curious if there is something in the settings that I'm missing. This is where it gets good... The brilliant Tier 3 "Technician" tells me that I am running an unsupported configuration because the Airport is running in bridge mode and it's attached to a wired router across the house. He says that if the D-Link router was also wireless he could help me. I asked what the difference was if it was wired or wireless but all he could say was he couldn't help me because it was a unsupported configuration.
So - I'm ready to send all my CrApple gear to some poor kids on the other side of the world. Anyone have any ideas here?

I'm reading the original post with the understanding that the AirPort Extreme is connected by ethernet to the network and the replies indicate that as well.
Are you saying that if the Extreme is in bridge mode connected by ethernet that the ports are not active?
Not at all. What I was trying to say was that the connection from the Extreme to the internet must go through the WAN port, not a LAN port. In a large network, this can happen unintentionally. For instance, suppose a client has Internet sharing enabled and is connected wirelessly to the Extreme and by Ethernet to another router. Then the internet connection from the other router would be shared with the entire subnet, including the Extreme through its LAN port. This could cause problems with the network.
However, with the network setup Jerastan describes, this does not seem to be the cause.

  • Airport in bridge mode not working in Windows7

    Hi everyone,
Last night as I was browsing the web on my iPad the internet stopped working...I am using an Airport Express router plugged directly into the wall socket of my apartment which was configured by the ISP.
I have been using this config for the past 7 months with no issues but last night it just stopped working and the yellow indicator started flashing.
I went into Airport utility and it tells me the Double NAT problem has been found (maybe the ISP changed something?)...and they suggest to change the Airport configuration to Bridge Mode ... said and done...now the Internet works fine under OSX and on my iPad but it does not work anymore in Windows 7.
Some of my family uses Windows 7 for some very specific apps and now it's just dead, internet does not work anymore.
Also, in OSX / iOS I didn't make any changes, I just changed the Airport configuration to Bridge mode and it worked right off the bat.
Has anybody else confronted such problems before ? If so, what would be the best way to fix this ?
    Thanks!

" I tried trunk port also but it got disabled"   <----- if your L2 config is not correct, nothing will work.
What is the setup on the switch ? Trunk or access vlan ?
What is the status of the interface ? up ? down ?
Do you see something in your arp table ?
    Gilles.

  • Port forwarding for Mac that shares internet to Airport in bridge mode?

I use Air Video server, which allows me to stream movies from my Mac to my iPhone or iPad. It sits on port 45631 and that's closed.
I recently moved from NYC to CO, and because of my cable modem not being compatible with my older Airport router, I must use my Mac Pro to forward my Internet service from one Ethernet port to another - so that my older Airport Extreme can then broadcast wirelessly.
Since I use the AirPort in bridge mode, and the Mac is forwarding the connection - how do I forward the port so Air Video can send through to the internet?
thanks for ANY help, I'm a bit lost here

  • Adding 3 Airport Extremes to Linksys WGT4400N in Bridge Mode  Not working

I have a network that starts in a homerun closet and is expanded across 5 acres to differnet locations via CAT5e.
Homerun Closet has Linksys WGT4400N with Cat5e running to three different locations on property. The cables are within length limitations.
1st Airport Extreme N Running in Bridge Mode Connected and Working in Main House
2nd Airport Extreme N Running in Bridge Mode Connected and Working in Guest House
3rd Airport Extreme Replaced with new one Connected and Not Working in Office. This Airport Extreme N is configured just like the others but it cannot see the network. Cables Verified with Testers and Mac Pro at office location, works when ethernet cable is directly connected to system.
Not sure what is going on. IS there s limit to the number of Airport Extreme N's used as bridges?
I have 2 of ther working and the last is not. First Airport Extreme N for office was bad replaced.
    Thank You

The Netgear wireless server has control over what what devices are allowed to connect.
Unless you tell the Netgear what devices you want to allow to connect, it will allow any wireless device to connect as long as it knows the wireless network password.
IF.... .you were using two AirPort Extremes, and not a Netgear, the two Extremes would communicate to each other....so you would only have to enter Timed Access settings on one router and other AirPort would automatically pick those settings up.
But, even this was not the case until the last year or so when Apple updated firmware.  A few years ago, you might have had 2 Apple AirPort Extremes on the network, but you still had to manually set up Timed Access on both devices separately.
Bottom line, you need to setup the equivalent of Timed Access on the Netgear router.

  • Bridge mode not supported for lap1261N

    Hello,
I have a WLC2504 and 2 LAP1261N (converted from autonomous to lightweight) with release 7.0.116.0 and I want to create a point-to-point mesh link between the 2 APs. When trying to change the APs mode from local to bridge I receive the message "This AP does not support bridge mode" even if the release notes say that mesh is supported on AP1261N. I tried to change the mode from gui and also from CLI. Any suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Paolo

in aIOS you can tell it to bridge on the 2.4GHz Radio, it's not ideal but it can be done.
    for WLC based:
The Cisco 1130 and 1240 ( all indoor AP ) are equipped with the following two simultaneously operating radios:
•2.4-GHz radio used for client access
•5-GHz radio used for data backhaul
The 5-GHz radio supports the 5.15 GHz, 5.25 GHz, 5.47, and 5.8 GHz bands.

  • [SOLVED]VirtualBox Bridged mode not working

For some reason I am unable to start a virtual machine in host-only or bridged mode.  I can do NAT mode but that doesn't really suit what I want to do very well.  Here is the message I get when trying bridged mode.
Failed to start the virtual machine Windows XP.
Failed to open/create the internal network 'HostInterfaceNetworking-wlan0' (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
One of the kernel modules was not successfully loaded. Make sure that no kernel modules from an older verison of VirtualBox exist. Then try to recompile and reload the kernel modules by executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' as root
    (VERR_SUPDRV_COMPONENT_NOT_FOUND).
I can't run /etc/init.d/vboxdrv because it doesn't exist.  I installed Vbox via Pacman and I'm embarassed to admit I don't really know where it is.  I just launch it by right clicking on my desktop (using fluxbox).
Any ideas on where to go next?

    Thanks a bunch...
    sudo modprobe vboxnetflt
    did it.

  • Airport Express Bridge Mode Cutting Out?

I recently wasn't able to bring internet to my bedroom, so I bought an Airport Express.  I didn't want to have to buy a modem, so I threw it in another room where I could get internet with my Airport Extreme.  Then, I put bridge mode on my Express so that it would spread the signal.  When I plugged it in, I got internet in my room at the normal speeds I get (I have very slow internet normally, about 300 kb/s.  I thought, great.  Then, about half an hour later, my speeds dropped out to about 50 kb/s.  I'm using a MacBook Air 2010, and it happens on all the other computers in my house.  It's really weird.  If it's any help, I'm on AT&T U-Verse (ick).

I bought an Airport Express and plugged it in just to the power, no ethernet, and set it up to join a network
The "join" setting on the Express will not provide more wireless coverage.
Check the setting on the Express again using AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just under the row of icons
The setting for Wireless Mode needs to be "Extend a wireless network".
"Join a wireless network" will not do what you want.

Hoping that someone will be able to help me. I have a one year old son who is now getting his hands into everything so a few weeks ago I decided to look at my options for networking my home iMac and External HD's.
I am currently running a SKY (Netgear router) into an Airport Extreme set up in Bridge mode. I have turned off the SSID of the SKY Router and everything connects to the Airport. On the AIrport I have a USB hub attached which then has three external HDs attached to it. I know this is a lot, but I have not had any issues at all with data transfer with this set up.
The issues I am having is that on average, once or twice a day the iMac will drop connection to the Airport. There is no patern to this as the iMac will drop connection while I have been working on the machine and also at times when it has been woken from sleep mode. There is then no physical way to restore the connection unless I restart the iMac. Even turning on/off airport does not fix the issue. If I try this, the iMac then seems to not be able to find any wirless networks, even those that are in the area of my home.
I have turn off the the airport and ran the iMac simply connecting to the SKY router and have experienced zero problems, the issue only happens when I introduce the Airport Extreme.
Does anyone know what might be causing the problem? I really need to try to get this to work so that I can eliminate the need to have the external hard drives attached physically to the iMac. In my home the router/Airport and drives are safely out of the way in a child proof area. I fear that if I have to introduce them back to being physically connected to the iMac they will no longer be safe from small hands!!!
    Many thanks for any advice.

Unfortunately, you did not not include information about the operating system that you will use to configure the AirPort Extreme, so we would need that you be able to provide you with the correct steps to set up the AirPort Extreme.
Bridge Mode would be the correct setting for the AirPort Extreme, but you will not have to worry about this if you use the setup "wizard" in AirPort Utility on your Mac or an iPhone / iPad since the wizard will automatically provide the correct settings for the AirPort Extreme.
I'm not clear though on whether you want the AirPort Extreme to provide another separate wireless network or extend the existing Arris network. If you plan to locate the AirPort Extreme a room or two away from the Arris, then it might make sense to extend the Arris network, so you will have one "big" network that provides greater range.
Whether or not the Arris will have NAT issues, we cannot say. This will be one of those times where you will not know whether something will work correctly until you try.
If you are not in a rush to get the AirPort Extreme configured, temporarily power off the Extreme and get things working with the Arris modem/router and your Xbox.

  • Does putting the airport in bridge mode effect the security of the internal private network

If I put my Airport Extreme in bridge mode for running Echolink, will it effect the security of my internal private network?

    Not at all.

  • ACE 4710 in bridge mode not working

I am trying to configure ACE 4710 bridge mode and I am stuck up in physical interface configuration. I have configured gig1/2 of ACE as trunk port and on layer 2 switch I have assigned that interface (gig1/2) to VLAN 11. I tried trunk port also but it got disabled due to BPDU error.
I am not able to ping servers as well as gateway. Below are the topology and context configuration:

" I tried trunk port also but it got disabled"   <----- if your L2 config is not correct, nothing will work.
What is the setup on the switch ? Trunk or access vlan ?
What is the status of the interface ? up ? down ?
Do you see something in your arp table ?
    Gilles.

  • ACE MODULE IN BRIDGE MODE NOT LOADBALANCING

    Hi,
I setup an ace module in bridge mode as follows:
    mfsc(vla80) > (vla80)outside fwsm, fwsm inside(vla40) > (vla40)ace-clientside, aceserverside(vla41)
and the servers have the fwsm svi(vla40) as their gateway. But, the ace is not loadbalancing.
The config script is attached. Is their anything I am missing?
    Attach

Check my troubleshooting guide on this forum.
There are few things to do to narrow down the issue.
    Gilles.

  • Cannot Sync movies, not a supported format.

I am having trouble syncing movies to my ipod nano, it's the 5thgen one, and i have synced both purchased movies and ripped copies of my Simpson dvds onto this ipod before. In addition, all the new movies that i was just getting ready to add are in mp4 ipod compliant format and have successfully been synced to both my ipod touch and my ipod phone. what am i doing wrong?

The requisite programming / coding to assure PDFMaker can function with the MS Office applications is non-trivial.
Only MS Word has the "full boat". Historically it was MS that asked Adobe to come up with what is now called "PDFMaker".
Specifically the request was for MS Word. An overwhelming number of MS clients (enterprise in particular) wanted an easier way to create not only PDF but better, interactive PDF.
The "success" was announced in a major MS hosted "conclave" back in the day.
(a good history research project for those who are skeptical)
Some "outlying" MS applications have never been PDFMaker friendly. MS Publisher and MS Access are two of the more notables.
As Adobe provides a page layout program of its own (InDesign - and, yes Publisher too is a "page layout" application) I've always found it odd that Adobe's Acrobat team expended resources on MS Publisher.
I've had MS Publisher with every version of Office I've had. While I do not use it "professionally" (FrameMaker please) I use it enough to know it does not support PDFMaker functionality very well.
As PDF is an ISO Standard and Microsoft (as well as Adobe) are active participants on the U.S. Committee for PDF-Reference (ISO 32000) the question is better posed to Microsoft's MS Publisher management.
The questions you need to ask of the MS Publisher development team are:
"Why are you not providing acceptable support for output of well-formed, ISO 32000 compliant PDF (which by the way would include PDF/UA-1 compliance ablity)?
The MS Word team is doing it.
Adobe's InDesign team is doing it.
So, what is the problem with the MS Publisher team?
In short the issue rests with the business decisions made by the MS Publisher team's management.
Again, PDF is an ISO STANDARD not something held captive by Adobe.
    Be well...
