Airport in Hotels-Redeux

Appologies but I was not able to find answers to my issue which is- I plugged in my airport, have green light, but I am not brought to the hotel's log in page. I am told it is looking for PPPOE and network connection cannot be established.
I am connected by ethernet right now. Also, when I am connected by ethernet, I think I had to set up another location as Automatic wouldn't work. Anything I can do to get rid of all these extra locations and just use automatic?
Thanks

I think I'm having a similar issue. I'm in a hotel and when I plug the ethernet cable into my MacBook it works fine when I log into the hotel network. If I take that same cable and plug it into the Airport Express I get the green light, network preferences say I have an IP but I can't get anywhere on the network. I think the hotel network is trying to get me to login again but it hangs before I can get to any login page.
Any ideas?

  • TS1398 My iPod connects with Wi-Fi at home but is no longer connecting with airport or hotel routers. This model is no longer supported by Apple. Is there any way I can boost its ability to pick up Wi-Fi in public places?

My iPod Touch connects with Wi-Fi at home but is no longer connecting with Wi-Fi at airports or hotels. Is there anything I can do?

First what you want to do is connect to your wireless connection .
Click On Settings>WiFi>Turn WiFi ON. Make sure you are connecting to YOUR wireless connection , check what is the name of your ssid(wireless name) on your router.
Before you connect to your wireless connection check if your connection is secured or not. To do that follow, the steps above once you found your wireless.
If there is a LOCK image that means your connection is secured, from this point you want to get that WEP or WAP key from your wireless router.
Connecting to your wireless network with Ipod Touch
If asked for password enter your WEP or WAP key and click on Join button, wait few moments and then see if you are connected. Test with your safari browser.
    Can't connect to wireless network?
    Few things you can check:
Did you get an IP address from your wireless router?
Unplug the power from your router shut down your ipod touch. Plug back in your router first, then wait for 1 minute and then turn on your Ipod Touch.
with the router been in a cafe airport etc you need to ask them to reset there router
You are not getting an IP at all?
Are you sure you are connected to your wireless router?
Does your router have MAC address filtering On?
Did you enter correct Password (WEP-WAP key)?
    Few more things to check...
    Does your homepage work?
    Did you try yahoo.com google.com ebay.com etc?
How about your YouTube do you get any videos?

  • Mail won't send from airports or hotels

My Mail always works perfectly at home, but when I travel I can't send emails from hotels or airports, most of the time, although I can always receive email. I don't understand it. Can anyone help?

    Michael,
It is OK to report the name of the SMTP, but minus your username -- is it smtp.mac.com? If so, I think your problems will be solved by changing the Port number to 587, at least at most venues. Some may accept it on 25, as your ISP does, but often 587 will be required. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302030
In your case, the reference to ISP, would actually be the provider of internet services at these other venues. It is likely that Port 587 will also work at home. One of the advantages of a .mac account, is the Authenticated SMTP for sending in other venues, but still subject to any blocking of Port 25 that some providers at the hotels, etc, might be doing.
    Keep me posted.

  • Using an AX in my hotel room.....

The hotel I am staying in offers ethernet access. I was trying to get my AX to give me wireless access but I ran into some problems:
Full reset of the AX first
    Plug Ethernet in AX
    Ran Airport utility
    Create new wireless network>name>wep password
    Configure IPv4=Using DHCP
    Ethernet WAN port=Automatic
    Connection sharing=Share public address
    NAT nothing is enable
Apply then green light, open safari and flashing amber?????
Quit safari and green light again...
Don't know anything about networking and I was wondering if someone could help me figure this one out?
    Thanks
    F

I've used an airport in hotels before. Make sure you sign in on the hotel website page. Your internet won't work until you agree to the terms, etc. I have had problems that I just couldn't figure out and the next day they worked.
One time I called the hotel and they connected me to tech support. Then the guy called me back and they charged me for the phone call. I asked for my money back on the hotel bill.
    Good luck.

  • Can I still buy a Ipad2 in the apple store or only online

Within 3 weeks I'm leaving for a holiday to the USA and want to buy there a Ipad2.
Can I still buy one in the Apple Stores or do I need to order a Ipad2 online and then pick it up in the store near where I stay?
Because if You look online at the store they still selling/can order the Ipad2.

    Hi,
It sounds as if you'll be on a great trip! The west coast is beautiful!
First, to answer your important question, I called the Apple store in Seattle. The woman said, "Of course you can use a credit card from the Netherlands (and I'm pretty sure from any country) in any Apple store."
And you do not need a US address. That's only for buying and/or repairing via US mail. Because of each country's sanctions, Apple cannot ship internationally. That's why for on-line buys, you must use a US credit card and prove it's going to a US address.
Also, before traveling, you might look into your credit card company's policy on exchange rate. For example, if you buy an ipad on a given day at a given rate, your credit card might not charge you the rate at which you bought it. They might charge you the rate that it is on the day you are billed (billing date - that once a month date.) You might want to read up on it if you're not aware and get correct info directly from your card company. Or check out new ones, if necessary. I'm sure you know the euro to US dollar rate is in your favor. But be careful where you exchange money - no airports or hotels.
And it seems as if you've settled on an ipad 2 16 gb, your original plan. Great. When you said different sizes did you mean different space like 32 gb and 64 gb? If so, it's great that you'll have a choice.
The woman I spoke with said there was only one Apple store in Seattle and it is not in the center of the city (it's near the Univ. of Washington,)  but you'll have a car, though, so it shouldn't be a problem. She did suggest, though that you might want to wait until you get to Portland because the tax in Seattle WA is 9.5% but there is no sales tax in Portland OR. That means with tax, in Seattle you'll pay $436.91 but in Portland you'll pay only $399.00 and save $37.91. That might or might not matter to you.
This is a little off topic, but if you are into photography and are using a camera (actually also any smart phone though you'll never get the quality a point and shoot or a dslr will give you) then you might want to consider buying a camera connection kit at the Apple store for $29.00. Whatever you take pictures with you can then put on your ipad. You'll see them better and can email them home/facebook if you like. If you do that, please read up before you go on how the camera connection kit works, and how you have to name pictures to go onto the ipad camera roll, etc. As a matter of fact, if you're near an Apple store at home, you might want to go in and ask for help. Of course, in Seattle, they can help you set up your ipad and explain anything you need to know.
Great that you have your Apple ID. You'll also need your password...
Have a wonderful trip! The scenery is beautiful and you're traveling to some beautiful and fun places. It sounds as if you are well traveled internationally and know much of the info I added, but just in case...
If you have any questions about Apple in the US, you can let me know and I'll be happy to speak directly with an Apple store rep in Seattle and then get back to you.
    Hope this helps.

  • Wifi options - is there much difference?

I currently have a "g" wireless setup in my home, perhaps someday I'll get the "n" version. I'm trying to configure a T400 and there are four options that allow for "g" and "n" data rates:
    ThinkPad WiFi (BGN)
Intel WiFi Link 5100 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology
Intel WiFi Link 5300 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology
Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5350 (AGN) with My WiFi Technology
Is there any special reason why the Intel WiFi Link versions will give me anything special with my plain-jane wireless router or the ones I'm likely to encounter at airports or hotels?
Also, if I want to play with NetStumbler or similar software, is one wifi option better than the others?
    Thanks!

While I am not sure what the ThinkPad WiFi is (maybe an Atheros based chipset?), the three different Intels offered are actually different despite the similar names.
The 5100 uses a two antenna design and can offered up to a 300mbps raw bandwidth.
The 5300, on the other hand, uses three antenna, and thus can offer up to a 450mbps raw bandwidth.
The last one is simply the addition of WiMAX onto the card.
If you are simply looking for a card that connects well with your router and/airports/wireless APs, then I recommend that you get the Intel WiFi Link 5300 - in my experience, it has very good range and can detect wireless networks fairly well at weak signals. (Most airports / access points only use Wireless B/G)
I wouldn't expect anything "special" with the card when used with your router though, since the card will just default back to 802.11g mode. You might get better range when using this card, however...
Lastly, NetStumbler does not work when you are running Windows Vista Intel drivers - not sure about other chipsets, but if you are running Vista with Intel cards install - NetStumbler won't play very well with it... While you can try running XP drivers under Vista - things tend to crash if you try that.
As for "similar software", it depends on what you are trying to run...
I hope I answered some of your questions.

  • Networking Question

I have a T400 with Vista Business that has a couple of networking issues.
First, I have a lot of trouble of dropping connections using wireless, probably related to other threads here about the Intel 5300 AGN adaptor. This does not happen when wired.
More annoying is a problem I have when either wired or wireless where "Network discovery and file sharing" is always turned off, every time I want to access the network. I turn it on and then "make this network a private network" and I can see other devices on the network, HOWEVER they still can't discover my T400. I have several other "Vista" PC's running on the network without this issue.
I realize this might be more of a Vista issue than a T400 hardware issue, but thought I would throw it out here since the wireless dropouts do appear to be hardware or T400 driver related and I suppose the network discovery issue might be related too, I just don't know.

You need to change the power saving settings in the properties of your WLAN card, not to save power, and also disallow windows from turning the card off in order to save power.
There is a setting in Access Connections which can influence file
and printer sharing. If you look at the profile's further settings,
there is an entry for network security, file and printer sharing needs
    to be activated.
I think this is a great feature of AC as it
will override the windows settings, you can choose to allow or block in
each profile; e.g. allowed at home, but blocked at the Airport or Hotel.
    Hope this helps

  • Traveling-do I need a dial up?

We have a network at home that allows me to access the internet. I am traveling to a location without wireless access/network and would like to be able to access the internet and check email (I use entourage). Forgive the silly question but do I need to set up a dial up account? If so- how do I do this? Are there ways to get a temporary dial up account? Thanks.
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Depends where you are travelling to. I suppose you have built in airport in your ibook. I have travelled through a lot of countries and used the net via that means, lots of airports/cafes/hotels have open networks set up for this purpose. So if you just need it for mails etc, just pop into a cafe for a coffee and a surf. Hope that helps...

  • WIreless solution with WDS/Active Directory/mutiple ssid

I'm in a project where the mail goal is to implement a wireless solution for our company.
I will try to explain our dimention.
We want two kinds of wireless solutions based on the same AP, secure and unsecure.
The unsecure is a "guest" net for Internet-access. We want a solution where the users have to contact our reseption to be given a username/password to access this network (same kind you find in airports, some hotels and so on). It has to be able to give a permanent access, access by the hour/day. Username/password can be random, but don't have to be.
The secure is a "work" net for our company computer services. We want the wireless network to be encrypted (a good standard) and the computer itself has to have some kind of certificate. We also want the user to authenticate itself using Microsoft Active Directory.
These two wireless networks should have their own SSID with different security levels. Both of them should support WDS.
Can somebody give me some information on which equipment we need, what kind of server services needes and so on.
The solution has to be robust, but of course the cost aspect is hanging over us as a ghost... ;-)
    Regards
    Eirik

Guest solution and secured wireless solution is very much possible with Cisco Unified wireless solution. The document available at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a008070ba8f.shtml explains how to setup guest and internal WLAN in a network. This should help.

  • Networking Help....

Usually I try and research to figure stuff out, but after months of combing the internet, I have decided that I am beyond my scope of understanding and need the guidance of you fantastic people.  So if I am asking something that has already been asked I apologize.  Here's the rub.
I am a pilot, so I travel over half the month.  Here is what I have at home:
    ATV
    Time Capsule
    Seagate 4TB external drive
    Mac Mini
Cable Modern going to aforementioned TC
Mini PC (Stick that plugs into TV or media streaming with some sort of Android software...maybe Jellybean)
Traveling with me or the wife:
    (2) iPhones
    iPad 2
    Macbook Pro 13" Retina (2012)
Here is what I would like to be able to do:
    Plug hard drive into TC
Access Hard drive from Mini PC (JellyBean) for owned movie streaming (not illegal downloads--I recently converted my entire DVD library to digital)
Be able to access hard drive from the road
Be able to access Aperture library from road to be able to edit pictures both on road and in house and have one common place for them (thinking the hard drive attached to the TC)
Here are the problems I have already run into:
While traveling, a lot of airport and hotel WIFI have different settings, so over the last month, with my harddrive setup on the TC, I got multiple errors while trying to connect (I think it was the internet at the hotel).
I have looked up port mapping, etc., but am not sure the exact way I need to set everything up. I am pretty good with a computer, networking is just not my strong suit so looking for advice on what I should do, or rather what the best way to have my network setup would be.
    Thanks in advance!

We need a bit more info..
What method are you using to remote access the TC?
I presume you are using BTMM and iCloud?? You will need to confirm that.
And you are using the MBP for access in remote locations??
Neither the ipad or iphone can do remote access to a TC by BTMM method so if you use one of those you need to tell us which one.
The movie library is not iTunes?? Since you are using the Android device not your ATV??
I would suggest since you are not actually using apple architecture for one of the key things you are doing.. the TC is the wrong product for it.
Buy a WD MyCloud. It is a very cheap end NAS but is designed specifically for remote access. Not over fast but it will have DLNA media extensions and probably a media server. But it is far easier to use remote access via https or some other method.. Apple greatly restrict remote access to the TC. That is why you have issues at hotels and airports.
As far as Aperture is concerned that is rather more complex. Apple says specifically the iphoto/aperture library should NOT be network hosted.
    See
    iphoto network no no.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
It's recommended that you store your iPhoto library on a locally mounted hard drive. Storing your iPhoto library on a network share can lead to poor performance, data corruption, or data loss.
Remote access makes that even worse.. whatever applies to iphoto also applies to Aperture. And remote access is many times worse.. this is about LAN access which is much more reliable than WAN access.
I honestly don't know how to get around this.. I am not sure if the sharing method will work over WAN..
The correct method to share photos in a network is using home share.
    Understanding Home Sharing
This applies not to itunes only but also to iphoto/aperture.
iPhoto '11: Share your photos among computers on a network
Aperture: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
It basically means you should not mount a library anywhere but on a local computer.. however if that library is then shared to the network.. you should be able to copy the photo to a local library .. manipulate it and send it back.. but I am not sure. Sometimes working on raw original files is much better and much safer.. since these can be simply used direct from a NAS.
Finally .. I would seriously consider replacing the TC as the main router with a vpn router. Remote access by vpn is more reliable, and allows you to work as if you are a member of the local network.. it is secure for using in public terminals and hotels.
If you are serious about it.. then even buying a static public IP so you are not bound to using a dynamic DNS service would also be well and truly worthwhile. Any ISP giving you a dynamic IP is doing so to prevent remote access.. using any of the tricks around it.. in the end.. is just doing it the wrong way. It might work for a while but every now and then you will hit trouble. VPN have been well worked out and that might mean getting a business level account from your ISP. If you are serious. You can buy a VPN based router fairly cheaply now.. but these are also more business level so have higher quality and more robust / stable operation.

  • Switch to Mac - What to buy

    Hello,
i reacently discovered my love for Mac.
I got at the end of last year an iMac from my employer to work with.
Processor 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 GB Memory and runs on OS X 10.5.8
Now it happens more often that I have to go to clients and they want me to be able to work also on airports and hotel room :P
But I have to less experiance with hardeware to pick the right Laptop.
I have to run the following programs
    * Apple OS
    * Creative suite 4 (main use)
    * Mac Barcode Label
    * Wacom Tablet driver
    * Virus scaner (mcafee)
    * VMWare Fusion
    * Windows xp
    * Office
    * SAP Database Client
    * VLP Remote connection ( guess its spelled like that. Its the thingy
i can log in onto our own network)
    * Virus scanner (mcafee)
Can someone advice me on the right laptop configuration?
    Thanks in advanced!

Depending upon your budget, either a MacBook or MacBook Pro will work fine. I would suggest a minimum of 4 gigs of RAM though.

What are your connection/proxy settings in Firefox? If you choose "Use system proxy settings" then Firefox should use IE's settings. Or if you choose "No proxy" then Firefox should default to your wi-fi connection.
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced > Network > "Settings" button
Can you think of any add-on changes you might have made since the T-Mobile days? A standard diagnostic to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings) is to try Firefox's Safe Mode.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [[Backing up your information]]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, restart Firefox in Firefox's Safe Mode ([[Safe Mode]]) using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode."
If you can load sites normally, this points to one of your extensions or custom settings as the problem.

  • IE11 - Captive Portal Pages Not Working

Recently, I have had several complaints from Windows 7 users that are trying to connect to hotspots at the airports and hotels and they are getting page cannot be displayed error in IE11. They are actually getting two, one is the standard error check connections and whatnot and the other says Turn on TLS1.0, TLS1.1 and TLS1.2 in the Advanced settings and try connecting to https://www.google.com again.I checked the settings and all TLS versions. I do have a GPO that is disabling SSL 3.0 and in the Advanced settings menu, it displays "Some settings are managed by your system administrator." The word settings is a link and when I click it, the captive portal page actually loads and allows me to accept the terms and conditions and access the internet.Anyone else see this?

I have had my TP since July and have connected to the internet via wifi at airports, hotels, coffee shops ect. You should not be waiting for HP to fix the OS. You need to decide if the problem is you or your TP. If it is your TP then get it fixed.

  • MacBook Pro very slow and junk mail after using wifi in Italy

After using different wifis in airports and hotels in Italy I am getting lots of junk mail in my inbox.  Also my internet is extremely slow.  I got a new router hoping that was the problem, and ATT checked our line to see if that was the problem.  I 'm afraid I picked up some sort of virus.  Is there an easy solution?

Hello, I'm busy with a complex 'Numbers' file containing a lot of sheets & tables with many routines formulas. So basically the major differences between tables are minor changes in the formulas (*'table 1':: M2* becomes *'table 1" :: M3*, etc). My q
