AirPort & Internet Ethernet-cable 'smart' TV

There are similar questions on this topic, but some old and some unclear. So...my question is:
If I plug in my modem into Airport Express, can I plug in Ethernet cable from 'smart TV" and it would work  getting Netflicks, Pandora radio, etc.
(Using the WAN and LAN ports)
I'm considering purchasing the AirPort Express Base Station for this purpose.
Note; My 'smart TV' also has wifi, if that's the only way it will work, but I figure Ethernet cable would be faster and more reliable.  (Right?)
These are the only two things I want to connect: Modem for computer (so I can get wifi) and Internet TV thru Ethernet cable.
My  Internet speed is 50Mbps....so it seems like Airport Express would be all the speed I need. No?

TP-Link....I don't know. But I have learned that Apple products (software and hardware) tend to work well together, better than mixing brands (Although I use non-Apple keyboards...but that's a simple thing.).
Well, it's great this should work out. So I plug the DOCSIS 3.0 modem's Ethernet cable into the WAN port of the Airport Express....then plug in the 'smart' TV's Ethernet cable into the LAN port and it should work (i.e. I can get Netflicks directly to the HD TV).
The Airport Express LAN ports acts as a uh, a 'bridge.'
Whew...it sure takes a lot of thinking to do something you've never done before -- and it's all 'invisible services.'  with technology racing ahead every moment and language and definitions changing from one web site to the next.
IMO.

  • Can't connect to the internet with Airport OR ethernet cable

I know many other people are having problems with airport not being able to connect to the internet. I've never had any problems with my mac before, but 2 days ago, it started to act really funny. When i turned it on, my time and date were changed to Jan. 1, 2000, and I kept on getting notifications about configd and mdnsresponder wanting to connect to the internet. I did a little research and fixed that problem. Then, a few days ago, my internet was dropped from my computer completely, and I've never been able to connect via airport since.
The main problem is that even when I plug the ethernet cable into my mac, I can't connect to the internet either. It worked a few days ago, but now my computer can't even connect. It registers that the cable is in the computer, but thats' about it. The Network Diagnostics assistant tells me to restart themodem, and that hasn't been helping at all. Any helpwould be appreciated.

First Reset your Pram to see if resets you clock (the different Date caused the problems. Plus open System Preferences->Date & Time pane. In there make sure you set the current date/time and se if you can have the Mac automatically update the time from a Time Server.

  • Airport stopped connecting to internet - ethernet cable OK

Last night, my wireless stopped working.  When I looked at the network diagnostics, it had everything fine up to and including the ISP, but then it couldn't find the internet from there.  I rebooted my modem but to no avail.  I then tried just connecting the ethernet cable to my mac and that was fine (once I'd rebooted my modem).  However, I still am having problems with the airport.  I tried a restore to factory settings but I still can't get anything.  Has anyone else had this issue?

I know that you have already tried a number of resets, but I would recommend that you try the following:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Problems with Airport and Ethernet cable

    Hi
I wonder if anyone can help please, i have a really annoying little problem with my Airport Extreme. I use the internet either at my friends through his wireless internet or at an internet cafe via their ethernet cable.
Recently I keep getting an error message up every 20 seconds or so that says 'Could not find a PPPoE server' and i have to click connect in my built in ethernet settings before the cable or even the wireless internet connection works again and this is getting really frustrating. Is there any way to restore my internet connect settings so that using airport and plugging an ethernet cable in will be a bit more straight forward.
Any help that you can give me would be very much appreciated.
    Many Thanks
    Dave

Hello davehtaylor. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Recently I keep getting an error message up every 20 seconds or so that says 'Could not find a PPPoE server' and i have to click connect in my built in ethernet settings before the cable or even the wireless internet connection works again and this is getting really frustrating.
Is it possible that you have PPPoE enabled in either or both your AirPort and Built-in Ethernet settings on your Mac? If so, you should only need to disable them to remove this warning.
o AirPort: System Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort > PPPoE > Connect using PPPoE (disabled)
    o Built-in Ethernet: System Preferences > Network > Show > Built-in Ethernet > PPPoE > Connect using PPPoE (disabled)

  • Airport outgoing ethernet cable

    Hi there,
I'm thinking of buying the AirPort express, but there is one thing I would like to know. Is it possible to plug an ethernet cable in to get the AirPort connected, and then let another ethernet cable go out to still keep my MacBook connected wired?
    Thank you,
    Mike

Yes you can connect your MacBook to the ethernet port.
The Airport Express has two ethernet ports. One is the WAN and connects to the modem. The other is the LAN and cannects to yopur MacBook, or a ethernet hub which could connect multiple MACs and PCs.

  • Time capsule not found by airport but ethernet cable was working

So I turned time machine off some time ago,( got fed up with it constantly saving whilst recording music and slowing down stuff), now although i was happy (ish) as it was before, i can no longer find in preferences a drive to use as backup.
the alert box tells me that airport cannot locate, when i previously, and still do, have ethernet cabling connected .
The time capsule green light shows, but not backing up.
Can i find back up drives without airport utility being used?

Thanks for th response, i have upgraded to lion some time back and as i recall i've had this prob before and had to do a verification of some kind using the clean up disc utility.
    I have already done...
the verification again without success, I did a repair disc permission on the Mac HDD,i did a restart of TC by unplugging and replugging without success.
I use TC for backup only,  using ethernet and my router is wireless.
i'm reluctant to reset although I would if I could be sure.
    What is the 5.6 utility?
My version 11.5.2, should i install the 5.6? if this is indeed an upgrade?
thanks for your time and patients

  • How do you set up streaming music using airport express ethernet cable vice wireless function

I have successfully connected my home stereo system to both my music library and my wife's library and I am using the remote app on an ipad.  It works great.  However, I would like to disable the wireless function of the airport express and use ethernet cable to stream the music.  Can this be done, and if so, how.  I have found the instructions for the old airport admin untility, but the options are not the same using the newer airport utility.

I have the "n" type.  The AX is hard wired to a router that comes off the cable modem.  The iMac is also wired to the router so I believe I have solid ethernet continuity between the iMac and the AS.  I have the AX connected to the stereo now.  The wireless works great, just wanted to see if there was a noticeable difference in sound quality if I run the sound wired vice wirelessly.

  • How can I create my own network in my dorm? (Using Airport Extreme + ethernet cable) (To connect AppleTV and Sonos successfully with no restrictions)

So I recently set up my Apple Airport Extreme Router in my dorm and have a BIG problem. It works and lets me do most things on my own network, but when I try doing things on my external devices connected to the network (Apple TV and Sonos Hi-Fi Sound system) the connection just doesn't go through. I'll give two examples.
After setting up my Sonos system successfully, I was prompted to update the software so I can use options that need internet access such as pandora and soundcloud. It just didn't work at all. It gave me an error that had to do with internet connection. I tried numerous times.
On Apple TV, I used AirPlay on my phone to mirror what I was seeing on my phone and then tried to play youtube, soundcloud, and other music apps and none of them worked.
My guess is that it has something to do with my school's restrictions on streaming or downloading. But none of this stuff is actually restricted so I know it must be due to the transfer of information between my network (which is connected to the school's network I am assuming, since my ethernet port is in my dorm wall)  and my external devices.
Honestly I'll probably get the "Your school has these restrictions answer", but I know there is a way to fix this and I really want the answer!!
    Thanks,
    Andres

You don't need the AirPort Express to do this.
You can set your Mac to share it's wired connection over the wireless port and the iTouch can connect directly to the Mac.
You could also do it with the AirPort Express, but you don't need to - it's overkill for what you've described.

  • Airport express - ethernet cable

Hope you guys may be able to help here. Just moved house and during the build works, we've had 4 cat 5e points done to each room. The basement has an imac with a zepplin in close proximity, both of these have data points within reach. Grd floor living area has my mac book air with a bang & olufsen stereo closeby. What i'm after doing is having the airport express plugged near the B&O, ethernet the airport express to avoid any potential drop off's which our last house suffered, so i'm hopefuly bypassing wifi, and jack pluggin the airport express to the B&O. All worked via wifi before, but will this still work if i use the ethernet only?
I have various steroes around the house and hoping to use the remainder of my airport expreses this way too...unless you guys tell me...Nope, gotta be wifi
Look forward to your comments in due course, kindest regards
    M

Worked an absolote dream, top man for the advice, thank you.
I know it's gonna be different thread, b ut chancing my arm and asking, have an B&W Zeppelin airplay, hard wired it via ethernet, but with the firmware upgrade, always reverts to wifi and during the day, music drops off...any thoughts?
    Thanks again, M

  • Can one Connect a G4 PowerMac directly to Airport using Ethernet cable?

I have a PowerMac G4 as a music machine and want to connect it to my Amplifer. I don't have an Airport card in the G4, but have been given an Airport Express, so was wondering if it is possible to connect using the 10/100 connection from the G4 staright to the Airport Express, and then using the optical connection into my Amp. Has anyone done this before?

The ethernet port on the AX is only active as a LAN connection when the AX is connected wirelessly to another base station using WDS. Unless your AX is connected in such a manner, you are out of lick.

  • Airport Express won't see ethernet cable and internet

I have just connected to new ISP. Airport was working perfectly before. I try to connect new modem to airport with ethernet cable and the Airport utility says nothing is connected to the ethernet WAN port and keeps telling me to plug it in but it is...I have hard reset, and rebooted everything... I am at a loss. Do I need to change IP addresses or DNS server addresses? I connect the ethernet direct to my macbook and the internet works perfectly, but I plug the ethernet into the airport and it doesn't see it. Can someone please help me, the ISP's advice is buy a router from them... but I have used airport for many years on different ISP's and they have worked. Does anyone have a suggestion besides rebooting and the paperclip?

Sorry, I am not familar with this product, but maybe some other users who have used the same product can help.
IF you have not yet performed a full Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express, that might be a good idea, as a Hard Reset will not return the AirPort Express back to factory fresh settings.
    To do this....
Power off the AirPort Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it for an additional 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart
It is unusual for the WAN port to fail, but if you continue to see the message about no connection at the WAN port, that is likely what has happened.
If you have an Apple Store in your area, you might want to take the Express to them to let them have a look.

  • How can I setup without an ethernet cable?

    Hey guys,
I just got my Time Capsule... I have a wireless modem existing for internet - ethernet cable from the wall to the modem.
I'm wondering how I can go about setting up my Time Capsule without an ethernet cable?? I don't have an extra one.  :S
    Any guidance is much appreciated
    Thanks!

Check the setup manual to verify that Apple does not support a "wireless only" type of configuration of the Time Capsule.
You will need to purchase an Ethernet cable to connect the Time Capsule to your wireless router. Connect from a LAN <-> port on the wireless router to  the WAN port on the Time Capsule.
You can use virtually any length cable that you want.

  • How can I use an Airport Express to join my wireless network and provide an internet signal to my Power Mac g5 via an ethernet cable?

I have a power mac g5 that does not have a wireless card, and connects to the internet via ethernet cable.
I want to know how to set up an airport express so that it joins my wireless home network and provides the G5 with an internet signal.
This via an ethernet cable that is plugged  into the airport express and then into the ethernet port on the g5.
Please advise as I have configured the airport express in every way possible, the green light is on and when I plug the ethernet cable into the G5 my network cofigurations shows nothing and says that the ethernet cable is not plugged in (It is).
I get an internet signal if the ethernet cable is plugged directly into my wireless router, so the ethernet port works.
    Please assist. Thanks.

Two requirements that must be met to do what you want.......
    1) An AirPort Express 802.11n must be used. Check the Model No on the label on the side of the Express. It needs to be A1264. Any other model number will not do what you want.
    2) The Express must be configured to "Join a wireless network" and the option to enable Ethernet Clients must be checked.
Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
The box to "Allow Ethernet Clients" must be checked
Please check to verify that your AirPort Express meets both requirements

  • How do I connect my airport Express to the internet connection of my Macbook Pro without an ethernet cable?

I would like to use my Airport Express (802.11n) to provide audio in another room for a pair of powered speakers, however the iTunes remote software for Android requires (for some dumb reason) an internet connection so I can't control iTunes
So my computer is connected to a cabelmodem via ethernet and the Express has established a network connection with the computer
How do i give the Airport internet access without an ethernet cable?

To share your Internet connection from your laptop, select 'Sharing' in 'System Preferences' and enable 'Internet Sharing'.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13855
You will need to set a WEP key. You may need to root the system do some things at the command line. I recommend against that.
Laptops don't work well as routers but it is possible.
Hook up the AirPort express to the laptop using an Ethernet cable and configure with the AirPort utility as if you are setting up a print server or base station. The Android should see the AirPort Express after that.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4587
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2312443
This might work better if you used the AirPort Express as a base station instead of trying to use the laptop as a base station. Then your Android would have Internet access.

  • What is the process for connecting ethernet.  Have ethernet cable connected to stereo received for internet radio and Blue Ray. However Network System Preferences indicates ethernet not connected and has red dot to left.  Note Airport wireless is working.

What is the process for connecting airport extreme ethernet?  I have ethernet cables connected to stereo receiver for internet radio and another to blue ray player.  The system preference network indicates "ethernet not connected" with red dot to left of this message.  The airport wireless works and has green dot to left of it.  The stereo receiver and blue ray player do not respond and give message not connect to internet.  Thank you.  /  cfpirate

It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
    After restarting, it worked.
    Thanks!
