Airport issues, connecting to the internet, pllleaaasseee.

Okay, I've been at this for days, literally, it's starting to drive me up the wall. I've suddenly lost the ability to load anything internet related. I use Airport to connect to my Linksys router wirelessly, my Airport says I'm connected, but I'm not. Under my Network Diagnostics, my Airport is fine, Airport Settings are fine, Network settings are fine, but my ISP has failed, my Internet has failed and my Server has failed. I got it working again today for about 10 minutes because I tried a new IP adress thing, but it still stopped working. And sometimes my Airport will say "self-assigned IP." If anyone could please assit me, it would be MUCH appreciated .

Please tell me you figured something out...Ive called Apple (They said something about mac book pros not connecting to 2 wire routers) and then ATT said its fine... my m.b.p. has worked fine for 10 months without a problem...im soo bummed! Did you figure out anything?!

Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.

  • Airport not connecting to the internet

Hi guys, i am having trouble with my wireless internet connection. I have been using the same router for over a year and all has been fine. The router itself seems to be ok and the airport is picking up a full signal, however i cannot connect to the internet. I have found that my IP address is different to that of the router (two numbers shorter and one different). Could this be the source of the problem and if so, how would i go about sorting it?
Any input would be greatly appreciated........ thanks.

    grrrrr...
I am having the same problem... At first light was green, great wifi connection but unable to connect to the internet. I've played so much with it, changing DNS, pulling back to previous FW and now just a blinking amber light.
My comcast connection works fine if I manually connect the Ethernet to my laptop. But my macpro is up stairs with a wifi connection!
I thought maybe it was the installation of Parallels, but i've upgraded to tge new version and still the same problem?
Even though I set the connection to DHCP the IP address seems to stay the same 169.254.255.1? Is that right? I did renew but no change.

  • WHy won't my new Airport Extreme connect to the Internet?

I can connect no problem using direct LAN cable, but when I try setting up the AirPort, it doesn't work. Green light is on and everything, just fails to connect to the Internet. Very frustrating. My ethernet uses PPPoE, so I tried setting that up in the AirPort, but it won't work then either......Network Diagnostics keeps getting me to the "Internet failed" stage if I try using DHCP, or only to "Network Settings failed" if I try using PPPoE (even though my direct LAN cable works fine on the same settings! Grrrrrr!) Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi Stress Test:
Thanks very much for the reply. I've actually sorted out the problem since posting - just a few minutes ago. I reset the AirPort and reconfigured everything in manual mode with the ethernet cord from my computer connected to the AirPort. I then disconnected the ethernet cord, rebooted the modem and AirPort, did a bit more troubleshooting and suddenly I was connected to the Internet! Still not sure exactly what I did that fixed the problem, but everything is working ok now.
    Regards,
    John

  • My Airport Express connects to the internet only in bridge Modus - how to define the DHCP settings?

Hello, I am sitting here in the middle of Siberia with my brand new Airport Extreme and it connects to the Internet only if it is in Bridge Modus - unfortunately I have also no idea what IP address range the provide has for me ... back in Europe this would work by itself and I do not have a DNS server, which I assume does not help either - any suggestions?

OK - by now I solved the problem - honestly, I did not solve it myself, it solved itself in a miraculous way ... anyway, here what happened: I searched the web for solutions concerning a potential incompatibility of my airport express and the Motorola SB5101E and found a description ... but, for what ever reasons it did not work. So finally I gave up and:
    1) Disconnected the Airport express from the modem
    2) Connected my Mac Mini to the Airport Express
    3) Set the Airport Express up for WLan using HDCP/NAP (in order to be able to utilize my apple TV for at least this Sunday evening)
    4) Disconnected my Mac Mini from the Airport Express
    5) Connected all my devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac Mini, etc.) to the WLan
    6) Reconnected the Airport Express to the Modem
    7) Now I am using all devices via WLan and it works
So, to me it sesames that there was a conflict between the Mac Mini being the one to configure the Airport Express and trying to get access to the Internet through it via cable at the same time, which might fit to an article about some IP address conflicts and the need to set up a virtual access and so on that I did not fully understand ... Anyway, it worked!

  • Does the imac need airport to connect to the internet??? Or can it just connect via any router?? thanks

  • 2 of 3 computers connected to the airport cannot connect to the internet

I have an airport extreme that is connected to the cable modem, and is set to distribute IP addresses using a single 10.0.1.1 etc.
All three computers, a ppc mac mini, a 12" powerbook, and the intel iMac are connected to the base station, and that is their only connection. the pb and the mini cannot access the internet through the airport, but they are assigned IP addresses, 10.0.1.2 and 10.0.1.3.
the intel mac has more info displayed than the airport, a real IP address, 216.195.... a different subnet, and a router #.
I am afraid to change the settings that I might lose the connection to online support on the intel mac, but am totally confused as to why it would have a different IP address than it is told to have by the aebs. I need to get all these computers online today.
I am also trying to connect a new epson aculaser cx11nf printer through the ethernet port in the aebs, and it is not acknowledging anything in the port. but that's another story, and i'll likely call epson for help later, but just in case someone thinks it's related.
    Thanks in advance.

Mary, Welcome to the discussion area!
From the information your provided, it is clear that your Intel Mac is not connected to your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). It is connected to a neighbor's wireless network.
On the Intel Mac, go to the AirPort menu and select the name of your wireless network. Hopefully you gave the network a unique name.
Ensure that you have the cable modem connected to the AEBS's WAN port.
Power off the cable modem whenever you switch the Ethernet connection. This causes the cable modem to forget the device it was talking to. When the cable modem is turned back on, it will find the new device to talk to.

  • We use an Airport Extreme in my office, which works fine for me. Occasionally we need to have more than one computer running on it, but for some reason it won't connect to the internet. It says we have internet, but won't connect to wifi. What's going on?

I use my computer everyday in our office and have no issue connecting to the internet/wifi, but when my boss comes in and tries to connect it doesn't work. It tells her she has internet, but won't connect to the wifi. We've tried a few different tactics(the basic ones I've seen on here), but nothing seems to be working for us. My computer automatically connects to our wifi.
Just recently the Airport Extreme has started with the blinking amber colored light on the front, which I believe means something is wrong? Can anyone help us figure out what's going on and why we can't get my boss' computer to connect as it should?
    Thank you!

    Here's an update:
Now the light is not blinking. It's a solid, consistant green. I don't know if it helps to narrow it down or anything, but I just figured I'd mention it.

  • Airport Issues, Connects to BS But Not Internet

Hello, I hope someone can help me out here. I have tried several ways to fix this but still haven't had any luck. My issue is my Powerbook is having issues connecting to the internet through the base station. I can connect to other networks in my building and elsewhere with no issues. I get full strength on our connection and can connect to the base station but I cannot connect to the internet though our base station. Our BS firware is 5.7 my comp os is 10.4.7.
The thing that gets me is my roommate can connect fine with his MacBook Pro. I have tried everything from reseting, hard resetting, changed the settings, reset the PMU, etc.
Any help on this issue would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Welcome to Discussions redlight24fps,
I assume you mean BS is referring to Airport Express Base Station? if so you should up date your Airport Express Firmware.

Also make sure you have the latest Airport Software.

  • My airport says I'm connected to my DCHP but when I open safari it says I'm not connected to the internet?  I have a OS X 10.4.11

Network diagnostics was no help.  I went into the network system preferences and it says that airport is connect to the internet via airport

Please try each of the steps that follow, in order, until resolved:
    STEP 1
    Create a New User Account
    System Preferences > Accounts
Click "+" to add a new account
Log off, and then, log back on with the new user account.
Try connecting to a Wi-Fi network with your Mac's AirPort.
    STEP 2
    Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Select AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under Preferred Network, use the minus button to delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
Delete AirPort Keychain Entries (Note: only applies if you connect to AirPort/Time Capsule routers)
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in /Applications/Utilities
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
Restart, or log out then back in.
    Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > Select AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under Preferred Network, click on the plus button to add any preferred network(s).
Restart or log out then back in.
    STEP 3
Disable the Mac OS X Firewall
System Preferences > Security > Firewall
    Click the "Stop" button.
    STEP 4
    Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder and com.apple.networkConfig.plist file to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder & .plist file back to their original location.)

  • Airport won't connect to the internet anymore after unusual reset

About a month ago, I was using my Mac normally.
Then one time when I had it on, it just resetted by itself. I don't know how. I don't know why, but it resetted. It turned off by itsel. Anyway. I turned it back on, and then I found out I could no longer get Airport to connect to the internet.
I then got a message that said "Your internal clock has reset, this may cause some programs to behave eratically".
Ever since I haven't been able to connect to the internet, but I have reset all of my clocks back to normal.
Sometimes 3 Bars from my internet connection show up when I start up the Mac but then my internet says connection error.
Afterwards, the three bars go away and my Airport says "!" .... and it picks up no internet connection even when my routers are on. I'm using another computer at the moment and it can connect to the internet successfully.
So I believe it is a problem with Airport.
What should I do to get my internet connected again, even though it already works? My Mac works fine otherwise !

I have a similar problem. I am using a Level One Home Plug (PLI-2030) bridge to connect to the network. Connecting directly to the computer works fine, but the computer will not connect to the internet through the wireless network. The wireless connection to the Airport Express base station is working fine. I have pingged the gateway and the connection is OK. The settings are as per those supplied, but the "Network Settings" on Network Diagonistics fails. Any Ideas?

  • My Macbook Pro will not connect to the internet or bring up Safari!

For the past couple of weeks my Macbook Pro has been having issues connecting to the internet and when it is connected it won't bring up Safari "You are not connected to the internet"
I use the correct password for my wireless internet and it still won't connect. I deleted the airport in system preferences and then made a new one. It connected for a few minutes but then disconnected and just shows an explanation point over the airport sign at the top of my status bar.
    PLEASE HELP ME.
I run a business and not having access to the internet on my Macbook is very very stressful.
I brought the Macbook into the Apple store but of course it works perfectly when I bring it in there... HELP

I also just realized it's also saying under the Airport status in System Preferences that the "AirPort has the self-assigned IP address ###.###.##.### and will not be able to connect to the internet."

  • Reverts from Wi-Fi to Cellular when connecting to the internet

Hi, Just got the i-phone, and really pleased with it, but I'm having an issue connecting to the internet over wi-fi when I'm in the office (the handset connects to the wireless network at home with no problems). So, I entered the network password, and when I'm at the home screen I can see the icon that says I am connected to the network, but then when I open Safari to try and surf the net I get a little dot or an e in the status bar which suggests I am connecting via cellular.....any suggestions?

If it works at home there is a problem with your office network. Perhaps out-of-date firmware in the router, or possibly your company's wireless network is set to allow connections on from known computers (MAC filtering). I realize you may not have much control over this; ask your IT group.
Launch Settings/WiFi and connect to your office network, then tap the right arrow next to the network name and check the IP address and DNS address. Compare the IP address to the one on your computer; the first 3 triads should be the same. If they are not the wireless router is not assigning an IP address. Also compare the DNS addresses. If they match your computer's try deleting the first one, or replace all of them with a public DNS server such as OpenDNS (208.67.222.222).

  • My PC can connect to the airport extreme but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues, any help.

My PC can connect to the new airport extreme I just purchased but with encryption it cannot connect to the internet my iMac has no issues.  If I open the airport exteme up and provide no security everything is fine which leads me to believe it is something with the encryption between the two devices.  Not sure what step I'm missing here this shouldn't be this difficult.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am asking if the DNS IP addresses, not the IP addresses assigned by the DHCP service, are the same. DNS is like the Internet's version of the Yellow Pages. Your ISP typically will provide them to you or you can elect to use those provided by another source, like OpenDNS.
DNS is the service that translates a website's URL to its actual IP address so that you can access it. I am just trying to rule out that the PC is not configured properly with the correct DNS IP information.
The other thing to check is if the PC is configured to use a Proxy service. By default, it would not be.
Finally, what is the make & model of the PC. More importantly, if the PC is using either a PCI or USB wireless adapter, what is its make & model?
