Airport itunes

I received my airport express I have wireless internet upstairs.. stereo downstairs that my airport is hooked to via rca jack. I can either surf the net or play my stereo but not both at the same time. Did I do something wrong or is this the way it is?

Thanks for the quick Reply.
I only have one Airport express configured at home. It's a 802.11 first generation , so I doubt it's a 802.11n model probably b/g.
I think I set it up to "Join" the wireless network ( not sure how I configured it )
The issue is : once in a while, the Airport express ( as externel speakers) doesn't appear in the Itune airplay dropdown menu ( on the lower right of the Itune window)
It's as if Itunes can't find it.
It appears again, once I restart my router.

  • Airport/iTunes problems

I can't get my Macbook Pro (OS 10.5.6) to work with iTunes diffusion of music through wireless Airport Express. I have been using my Powerbook (10.4.x) for 3 years this way and it is still working fine! Both computers have version 8.0.2 of iTunes installed.
    I think I tried EVERIYTHING:
    - turning on/off interferences limitation
    - changing radio mode to 802.11b only or 802.11b/g compatible or 802.11g only
    - turning automatic channel off and trying EVERY channels one by one
The problem is always the same. The music plays for a couple of seconds, then it stops.
Is there anyone who experienced the same thing? Is there a solution?

i have had the same thing happen, it still does occasionally. Music will start to play then it will stop after a short time. Are you using time capsule? I am using TC with an airport express to strengthen the network to a downstairs area. Seems like i have less issues with this when i have my macbook upstairs and closer to both airport express and TC. I reset the airport express, repaired permissions and seems to be ok most of the time. Just a thought that i have noticed that when my macbook is backing up via time capsule the network speed is very slow and often safari wont load web pages until the backup is finished. Might be the same with the music dropping out, ie. when the mac starts to backup the network speed drops and your music will stop streaming?

  • Airport/iTunes loud static burst

I have an airport express set up to play iTunes. Occasionally when switching tracks I get a really powerful static noise burst, it's deafening. Imagine you have a receiver, you switch to a station with nothing but static, mute the channel, turn the volume all the way up, then suddenly unmute it. Thats what it sounds like. It's happened maybe thrice in the past 3 months. I'd like to fix this because I'm worried this burst is loud enough to damage the speaker. Any suggestions or solutions would be appreciated. my setup itunes>optical>DAC>power amp.

Does the noise burst still occur if you substitute a pair of stereo headphones into the audio port of the AirPort Express? If so, then the issue may be one of three things: 1) Audio source, 2) The power source the Express is connected to, or 3) The Express itself.
If it doesn't then the issue may be: 1) The digital optical audio cable between the Express and the DAC, 2) The DAC itself, 3) The analog audio cable between the DAC and the power amp, or 4) The power amp itself.
One known issue with the Express is that it doesn't have a local clock circuit. As such, when the incoming data is interrupted, as it is when you change songs in iTunes, there is no longer a digital output to feed the DAC, which loses lock as a result. Some external DACs are more sensitive to this than others.

  • Connectivity - airport/Itunes

My itunes connectivity (to to airport express and to my stereo) worked flawlessly when i had the base station set up as a separate network. The down side was I couldn't be online at the same time. Now that I figured out how to set up under the same network -- allowing for itunes through the stereo and internet access -- the connectivity with the stereo has been spotty. It's frustrating to have the music cut out. So, why did it work well when set up as own network but spotty now?

oops. this isn't airport for windows.
i'm going to repost under the correct heading.
    sorry.

  • Time Capsule, Airport, iTunes, ethernet

    Hi
This is probably a bit of a long shot.
I purchased Time Capsule (big mistake), havent yet managed a wireless back up.
would it be possible to connect my iMac to Time Capsule by ethernet? thought this may help the back up situation.
I tried it, but cannot get access to my Airport System, and all speakers disappear from iTunes.
    any ideas?
    Thanks

Just had a thought try out - plug in everything the way you wanted it before and couldn't connect through itunes (plug in the ethernet into your imac). On the imac go to system preferences and then network. On the left of the pop up menu there should be choices like built-in ethernet, bluetooth, airport, etc. Below that menu there is a +, -, and then a symbol (don't know the name). You want to click on that symbol and it will bring down a menu. Select set service order. I'm not sure if it matters which order exactly, but you want to move the airport above the ethernet. You want to make sure you can still connect to the Time Capsule after this change.

  • Mavericks, WiFi, Airport, iTunes

Since I have noticed outages under Snow Leopard, WiFi, Airport Express using iTunes for years and years. I always thought this is a hardware only problem. Not at all as I have noticed. Under Mavericks I haven't noticed this phenomena using iTunes and my "old dropped technology" Airport Express.
So, now we have achieved a state in terms of software and hardware where everything seems to work fine.
However, what Apple is now doing with their new Airport utility. I am no longer able to edit the configuration of my Airport Express device.
This is just as nonsense as "Berliner Beamten Politik".

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • AirPort, iTunes and Leopard

Ok, I have some issues with my new iMac with leopard.
    1. I had gotten quite used to using my home stereo and the apple remote to play music while using 10.4... It seems with Leopard I'm unable to change the setting of 'Computer Speakers' or my AirPort home speakers while using the remote, as you can in iTunes. This is very frustrating, as the remote and home audio was one of my favorite features.
    2. My minimized iTunes window seems goofy. Sometimes it works, but mostly it doesn't. I'm unable to pause or play music using the mouse, I have to either use the keyboard, or open the iTunes window completely. And sometimes when I open it from minimized, the window is stuck to my mouse and goes all over the place.
Thanks if anyone could help me out!

  • Regular loss of successful Airport iTunes set up - ? AE glich only

Hope I'm not duplicating. I have followed many of the strands regarding this.
I have one PC and a Brother printer networked onto a Belkin ModemRouter via ethernet, I have then successfully joined a laptop wirelessly to this with WAP-PSK security. I want AE simply for iTunes, to stream wirelessly to a Yamaha amp via a Belkin optical cable.
After all the same set up distress suffered by others I finally got there and the outcome was superb.
However I am plagued with the AE 'dropping off the network' if I restart PC's or ModemRouter and often spontaneously. It can remain green or go to flashing orange, but cannot be found with Airport Admin etc.
Invariably unplugging the AE and plugging back in cures it in 5 mins with AE visible and speakers accessible, but this misses the point.
I have tried all the previous advice:-
Installed AE setup,AE for windows and ModemRouter updates
Removing Win control over wireless networks
Trials with all firewalls disabled,ZA disabled and AE added to Trusted zone of Zone Alarm
Checked all security settings for compliance
    Tried different channels
Have also tried manually assigning IP addresses (had prior trouble with IP's duplicating) and MAC addressing each item
    Turned internet off
All this to no avail and very tempted to just go for ethernet. Finally I have gone to factory resets on the router and the AE and gone back to auto DHCP. The reconfiguration lasted ony one evening. Both PC's have lost contact and typing in the IP address of the AE manually produces error 6753 from Airport Admin. I cannot find this.
Surely if all the above has failed and a simple AE unplug/replug to power works it is an AE internal glich cured by restart?
Acer Aspire 1700   Windows XP   Belkin Modem Router

The AirPort Express will "join" virtually any wireless network if it is provided with 3 correct settings:
    1) The name of the wireless network being joined....I assume that you already know this
    2) The password of the wireless network being joined....I assume that you already know this
    3) The exact type of security settings of the wireless network being joined.....this is where users have difficulty with the AirPort Express setup....because they either use the default settings on the Express (which may likely not match the settings on your wireless network), or they guess at the wireless security setting (which do not match the security settings on the wireless network).
So, the main question here is.....do you know exactly what type of wireless security that your network is using? The Express must be provided with those exact settings in order to join the network correctly.
You will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express and then start over with the configuration again.
Power off the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for another 9-10 seconds while you simultaneoulsy plug the power back in to the Express
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light

  • Loss in communication with Airport and iTUNES stopping!

I have had a problem with iTUNES and my Airport Express since I first got them and it has been getting worst. There are two different, but perhaps related symptoms. The first is that everything is working fine and then the song stops playing. Sometimes only for a few seconds or sometimes indefinitely. The second problem is iTUNES can't connect with the Airport or losses the connection. This is especially confusing because the Airport is located only 4 feet away form the computer in a cabinet with my amplifier and home stereo.
My remedies vary form simply restarting iTUNES, running One Button Checkup on Norton Systemworks, rebooting Windows and/or turning power of at Airport.
iTUNES version 6.0.4.2, is running on an HP Pavilion ze5375, pentium 4 @ 2.4ghz with Windows XP Home edition. Airport Utility is version 4.2 and is connected by cable to a Sony stereo amplifier.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    hiya!
hmmmmm. is the Airport connection dropping at the same time as you get the songs stop playing on the PC?
if so, perhaps let's try attacking that issue first.
have you worked through the possibilities from this document?

  • ITunes does not see airport express speakers but airfoil does

    iTunes 6.0.2 and AE 6.3
iTunes does not see the AE speakers but Airfoil does.
Have restarted AE to no avail.

Having a similar problem. iTunes 6.0.2 "sees" the Airport Express but cannot select the speakers associated with the Airport. iTunes 6.0.1 works on a Mac Mini with the same Express. Tried to re-load the system from the CDs but iTunes 6.0.2 still on

  • AirTunes / Airport Express / Windows XP not working together

Here's the issue. I have two PCs available to me; a laptop from work that is tightly locked down by our paranoid IT dept, and a family desktop that has the iTunes library within it. I purchased airport express so that I could stream to my stereo. The laptop does not have iTunes on it, the IT dept having cunningly deployed some way of blocking its install. They did not, however, block airport utility.
Both computers connect happily over wireless to Verizon FiOs and on into the wider world.
    1) The laptop's airport utility will happily locate and allow configuration of the express unit.
    2) The desktop unit, however, does not find the airport express at all finding no apple wireless devices. However, knowing from the laptop (and from direct to the fios router's network map utility) I can tell airport utility to "configure other" supplying the express' IP address and p/w. Then it finds it and can configure away until I hit the update button. It then can find it no longer until I configure other again.
The point is, iTunes / air Tunes, hosted on the same desktop, displays, I suspect, similar behavior. It never finds the "speakers".
I have tried switching off Norton's firewall altogether, the windows firewall altogether, going w/o any WEP or WPA without luck. Also, I have tried configuring the unit as first as a "joining an existing wireless network", and, second, as it own new wireless network again without avail.
I have spent 4 hrs with Apple support and we thought we had it licked; the speakers appeared briefly after switching to a "bridge" connection share mode. The speakers duly showed up. Letting the gentleman go off the phone in triumph, I stupidly neglected to test the connection from iTunes through to the amp and ran into the error code 15000. Trying some of the ideas in these and other forums to beat that then led me back to square one, never seeing the much anticipated speakers again.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thanks much!

I detected a problem with Airport+iTunes in Vista and some XP machines.
I have 3 machines: Lenovo 3000 N200 Vista, Compaq nx9010 XP and Asus EEE Top XP.
On the Compaq, APutil and iTunes perform flawlessly 100% of the time. However, on the Lenovo and the Asus, ApUtil doesn´t detect my 2 Airport Express, and iTunes will drop the connection after 30-60 minutes. Then I have to restart iTunes in order that it "sees" my Airports again.
At first, I thought it was a problem with Vista. Later, as it happened on my Asus XP, I thought it was a hardware/driver compatibility problem. Then I decided to make some experiments.......
I found that at startup, 2 processes are activated: iTuneshelper and APAgent.
I cancelled both of them. Voila ! Suddenly APUtil detects my Airports, and no more dropped connections in iTunes !!!!!
Now, it remains still unanswered to me: Why did the problem not happen on my Compaq ???

  • Please Help - ITunes with Airpot don't work

I have just installed Apple Airport in my wireless network in order to use my Hi-Fi equipment and use remote speakers.
I checked (make a PING) and the airport responses ok.
The problem I have is that, even I ticked properties in Itunest (mandatory to recognize Airport), ITunes didn't recognize airport express. Aparently a box at the botton of the screen must be appear ... but nothing happened.

    hi Horacio!
in the best of all possible worlds, someone with some experience with Airport would be trying to answer your question ... but until one of those people comes along i'll try making some more suggestions:
I suspect that the problm is in ITune because the Itune help says that when you have remote speakers and AIrpot a kind of menue must be appear at the botton of Itune screen.
okay ... this KB doc looks like it might be relevant:

  • AirPort HDD very slow

    Hi
I was wondering if you guys could help me out with the Apple AirPort Extreme wireless router/networked HDD. I am connected to the AirPort via gigabit ethernet and I get VERY slow write speeds.
For example, I tried moving about 20gigs worth of videos and music to the disk from my PC. I was getting about 10-12 MB/sec speeds. Now, I am sending these files off an old HDD ( an 80gb Samsung from 2003) but even then 10-12MB/sec total sounds pretty crappy. As a test I at the same time moved another file from a similar (2004 era 80gb) hdd and got about 3 MB/sec speeds from it. I also moved another file from a 2007 Western Digital hdd at that got 1 MB/sec speeds!
The exact speed varies, but no matter which HDD(s) I use, I cant get higher than 12MB/sec speeds!
I was running no resource intensive programs in the background and I'm using 1gb certified Ethernet cables.
I'm using Vista SP1. Is there anything that you guys could suggest for me to do? Is there a way I could check if I am successfully running 1gb Ethernet and not, say, 100mb Ethernet?
I have defragged all my HDDs except for the AirPort, which I am having trouble getting to do so. I noticed its formatted in FAT32, not NTFS. However, there was no 'format' option when I right clicked on it. Could FAT32 be a reason?
Also, I have noticed iTunes runs much slower on it than an internal drive. While itunes itself is installed on a Intel X-25 SSD, I have some music on both internal and the external drives. When the music is internal, I am able to rapidly change songs and go through menus. However, with the AirPort, itunes slowly chucks a long with pauses when I try to do something too quickly.
I have noticed that sometimes I hear an audible 'click' sound from the HDD. My guess is that that is the sound of it turning on. Is it possible to configure it to just be spinning the HDD 24/7?
    Thanks for your help.

Well, for starters the USB port on the newest AirPort Extreme (it is USB 2.0....not 3.0) runs at about half the speed that a USB 2.0 runs on a computer. That is because there is not enough processing power in the AirPort Extreme to handle full USB 2.0 speeds.
Things have always been like this since USB was added to the AirPort. Apple knows all about this.
You would think that with a new cutting edge product like 802.11ac, that Apple would have least updated the port to USB 3.0.....even if it had to run half normal speed.....but that is not the case.
Let Apple know. But, I wouldn't hold my breath about getting things up to speed.
To be fair, you might be using wireless to connect your computer to the AirPort and the wireless connection may be limiting your connection speed as well.

  • Yosemite no longer plays music across Airport

Since the upgrade to Yosemite, Airport+iTunes no longer delevers music reliably to a remote Airport Express.
The music flow works reasonably well when it works, but then it terminates, and most often stays unconnected until I
deselect the Airport Express unit in iTunes, and reselect it. Only then will the music flow resume.
The average duration of the music flow is around 3 minutes, which makes iTunes completely useless.
Is there a fix for this, other than moving on to a more reliable platform?
It should be noted, that the Airport network as such has not changed at all, the only real change is the OS upgrade.

    Yosemite has pathetic networking.
You need to do a lot more for Yosemite to work.. If you upgrade installed.. I would have to say there might be no fix. Especially if this is over wireless.
    Otherwise try the normal stuff.
    Yosemite.. script the mount
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6747833
That was a post from Tesserax I saw.. nothing works for everyone.. because Apple have made it buggy as anything.. I doubt we have got to the bottom bug layer.
Where you see TC (time capsule) substitute AE in your mind. Ignore the disk info.. as I use the same set of options for everyone.
A factory reset of the TC is the start.. it is required so you can find it again.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
    Setup the TC again.
ie Start from a factory reset. No files are lost on the hard disk doing this.
Then redo the setup from the computer with Yosemite.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg TCgen5 and TCwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use TC24ghz and TC5ghz with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense. But this can be tried in the second round.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the TC always takes the same IP address.. you will need to do this on the main router using dhcp reservation.. or a bit more complex setup using static IP in the TC. But this is important.. having IP drift all over the place when Yosemite cannot remember its own name for 5 min after a reboot makes for poor networking. If the TC is main router it will not be an issue.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. but this change will mess up your TM backup.. so be prepared to do a new full backup. Sorry.. keep this one for second round if you want to avoid a new backup.
    5. Mount the TC disk in the computer manually.
In Finder, Go, Connect to server from the top menu,
Type in SMB://192.168.0.254 (or whatever the TC ip is which you have now made static. As a router by default it is 10.0.1.1 and I encourage people to stick with that unless you know what you are doing).
You can use name.. SMB://TCgen5.local where you replace TCgen5 with your TC name.. local is the default domain of the TC and doesn't change.
However names are not so easy as IP address.. nor as reliable. At least not in Yosemite they aren't. The domain can also be an issue if you are not plugged or wireless directly to the TC.
    6. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
There is a lot more jiggery pokery you can try but the above is a good start.. if you find it still unreliable.. don't be surprised.
You might need to do some more work on the laptop itself. eg Reset the PRAM.. has helped some people. Clean install of the OS is also helpful if you upgrade installed.
