Airport & keychain message

recently, about three days ago, whenever I turn on my computer, a box appears with this message:
An application named airport needs to access your keychain, but there is an existing version. Do you want tot change all your keychain items to allow the new version access to your keychain?
This change is permanent and affects all keychain items in all your keychains.
Don’t’ change Change all
Changed Process: /System/Liobrary/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ai rport
Tool: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Apple80211.framework/Resources/airport
And then every time I pick my airport network, I have to type in the WEP password. Basically I want to know if I should change it and if I do, is it going to screw up my access to wireless...

Launch the System Preferences app, open one of those that I cited, and check what the settings are WRT passwords. E.g., under the Security prefPane are various options for passwords. I can't be any plainer than that and maybe you need to learn how to use the software that ships with your machine—see the links at http://search.info.apple.com/?asq=&as_epq=mac+101&as_oq=&as_eq=&btnG=Search&lr=langen&kword=&type=&Submit=Search.

  • Airport Keychain problems

How do I find the keychain password for the system keychain?
I open keychain access and find the Airport network passwork under the system keychain. When I ask to see the password I cannot - it says my keychain password is incorrect. This is my user pasword and it works for the login keychain.
Why do I want to know? Because the last 2 times I've installed an apple software update, I've been locked out of the Air Express Network. Now there are more updates and I am reluctant to install them since the last times took many many hours of work to recover from, and in neither case do I know why the computer eventually asked if I wanted to fix my keychain.
    G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    *BLESS YOU!*
This explains why it has followed me for multiple system versions, across multiple different computers. I always move System Preferences into Utilities (where it belongs, dammit!). It would have persisted on my "new" system had I rebuilt it.
To be even more precise, the message posted here was right on the money!

Now to amend my bug report to Apple to FIX whatever dependency there is on System Preferences. Who would have thought such a thing would be related?

  • Information stored in "Adobe.APS" in your keychain message

    Hi all,
I've developed an application using Adobe AIR 1.5.3 and am looking into upgrading to AIR 2.0. When I install the AIR 2.0 runtime and try to upgrade an existing AIR 1.5.3 application to a new AIR 2.0 application I get the following message when the application starts:
<AppName> wants to use your confidential information stored in "Adobe.APS" in your keychain.
One of the first things that the application tries to do when it starts is access encrypted local storage (I'm assuming that this is where this message is coming from).
Is there any way to avoid this message when upgrading to AIR 2.0?
    Thanks
    Sean

Thanks for taking the time to look into this Chris,
I've one other issue where a person trying to install the AIR 1.5.3 application I work on is having difficulties during install. Here's what their .airappinstall.log file looks like:
Starting silent app install of file:///C:/Users/Gordon/AppData/Local/Temp/Eye-Fi_Center.air
    UI SWF load is complete
    UI initialized

App installer failed; exit code 7

I tried asking the user to uninstall an older version of Eye-Fi Center via the Control Panel before attempting another reinstall of Eye-Fi Center, but that didn't seem to do any good.
FWIW, this user is running Adobe AIR 2.0.2.12610 and the application in question has been developed to work with AIR 1.5.3. A quick snippet from it's application descriptor file looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/1.5">
    <id>fi.eye.center</id>
    <filename>Eye-Fi Center</filename>
They're seeing a popup at the end of installation which says:
"This installation of this application is damaged. Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance."
I don't mean to hijack this 'Adobe.APS' thread with a separate issue - if you feel that this second issue would be better served in a separate thread, please let me know and I'll repost.
Thanks again for your help - much appreciated.

  • Airport error message when trying to connect to internet

    Hi,
My iBook G3 has been unable to connect to the internet via our newly installed satellite service. When the service was first installed, it connected, but now it doesn't/ My G4 desktop iMac connects fine but not the laptop.
I have gone into the keychain control, deleted the network and then tried to reconnect, to no avail. The computer knows that the network is there, but can't join.
Another related issue: I get into an endless loop when I try to go into Network in System Prefs. The error message says, "Your network settings have been changed by another application." The same message shows up on my iMac desktop computer, too, although I have no trouble getting online with that computer.
Thanks for any help you can give.

This article may help explain the Error -43
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107032
Even though the article is about connecting to an SMB share, most of it can still hold true when connecting via FTP.
If you haven't yet, you may want to try using a 3rd party FTP application, such as CyberDuck http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/14426

  • Airport/Keychain password character limit?

I've posted this in the Airport Extreme Forum, but things look kind of slow over there, and since its rather a simple question that I would think doesn't require expert knowledge of Airport or Keychain, I'm hoping I can get an answer here. I've googled all over the place for this, but have come up empty handed.
Does anyone know what the password character limit is for Airport Extreme (or would it be Keychain imposing the limit?) I'm seeing only 26 characters in Keychain of a longer Airport password I entered. I think the limit is maybe 30, so don't understand why only 26 have shown up. The router itself shows all the characters.
I realize 26 random characters should be more than sufficient, just curious to know what the limit is.

Just discovered that all the characters I had entered were present in Keychain. Only 26 were visible until I hit the right arrow key which then displayed the rest.

I am getting two error messages as I attempt to login on my iMac.  One says I don't have an IP address and another says that another device is using my IP address and won't allow me to login.  Any advice?

Is your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) the only router in your network configuration? That is, is it connected directly (by Ethernet) to an Internet Broadband modem OR to another router upstream of it? Regardless, what it the make & model of the device that it is connected to in order for it to gain Internet access?

  • Odd Keychain Message When I Open Safari

    Hello,
Whenever I open Safari (newest version), I get a message that Safari wants to access the Keychain - Yes or No? I always choose "Yes" to allow it to use the Keychain, but this happens every time and it is getting super irritating.
    Ideas appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    HI,
Sounds like your Keychain preference files are corrupted. Locate this file:
    com.apple.keychainaccess.plist
~/Library/Preferences. Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
Now when you naviagate to a site to save a password... it should require the authorization to Allow or Always Allow...
    If not..
    Quit Safari
Open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities) Find the "Safari AutoFill" item. Delete it.
Relaunch Safari. Next time it asks for authorization, click "Always Allow".

  • Airport error message

    Hi,
My macbook pro was browsing on the internet very slowly for the past few days and now I cannot connect at all.  I've tried going to airport utilities to see if I could fix this but now I get a message that says "Airport has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the internet" How do I fix this?

    hold down the option key
    click library
    open the keychains folder

throw this folder in the trash and reboot.

  • Removed Superdrive - "No Airport Card" message

    Hello,
I have removed the connecting cables to the Superdrive within my 2008, 13" Macbook Aluminum Unibody.  The Superdrive is currently broken & in an attempt to have a quieter machine (it clicks loudly when awakes from sleep mode) I thought I could disable it.
In doing so, I can no longer use WiFi & when clicking on the Network Icon, I receive the message "No Airport card installed".
Is there a way that I can disable the Superdrive, but have full functionality of the computer?
    Thank you.

Please try the following, in order, until the problem is resolved:
Boot into Safe Mode by holding the Shift key on startup. Once the computer has booted up completely in this mode, restart the computer and check to see if the AirPort is available and working properly. If not, go on to the next step ...
Reset SMC by shutting down, disconnecting battery and power cord and holding power button for 5 seconds while they are still disconnected. Let the computer restart, and again check for AirPort functionality. If the issue is still not resolved, go on to the next step ...
Bootup to the install disc by holding the 'C' key while the computer boots (with install disc in the optical drive). Check for the Airport in the menu bar after booted up to the install disc.
If the AirPort is not recognized while booted to the install disc, the Airport Card or logic board will need to be replaced. On the other hand, if it is recognized while booted to the install disc and you can see available networks, you will need to reinstall the operating system.

  • Airport Untility message

I am trying to set-up my time machine and get a message saying "Airport wireless device not found. I am plugged in to the electrical outlet, hard wired into the network, and went through the Network settings looking for an adjustment I might need to make. Can't find one. The Network status says the
Airport is on. It does say that the FireWire is not connected. Does that need to be set? If so, how do I go about doing that. Does anyone have any ideas for how to get my Time Machine set up? I am using a MacBook Pro. it is configured using DHCP. Don't know if this is useful.

    First, a point of clarification:
Time Machine is an application for backing up data.
Time Capsule is the network storage device designed by Apple to be used with Time Machine.
If I'm understanding your post, you're having trouble setting up a Time Capsule--is this right?

  • Every time I log keychain message appears; don't want it

Every time I log in, message appears that several sub-programs want current keychain log-in password...just a complete and absolute pain to deal with this endlessly repeating loop.  Did not have this problem with Mountain Lion...just surfaced with Mavericks.  Can anyone show me how to cancel/shut off/delete this annoyance?  Thanks in advance if you can help.

You can't actually stop them. If they are coming to your iCloud address you could go to the iCloud website, go to the Mail page, click on the cogwheel icon at bottom left, choose 'Rules' and set up a Rule to move all messages from [email protected] to another folder you previously created, or the Trash. If they are coming to a non-Apple address you can do the same thing in the Mail app on your Mac (presumably also on mobile devices though I don't know about that).

  • Losing Airport/ Get message "connection timed out" when try to re-connect

This has happened several times over the past few days. First time, trying to re-connect, it didn't see my network name. Then re-entered name, selected/joined, password shows up, but connection times out. Tonight, it saw my name, password showed up, but wouldn't connect, not matter what, with message "connection timed out."
Both times the only thing that worked was a re-start. Tonight, even after a re-start, got "connection timed out" message at first, but was able to get back on by clicking on the icon. I see the following logs.
Error: airportd MIG failed = -6 ((null)) (port = 26123)
Macintosh-3 Apple80211Agent[91]: Error joining .......: Connection timeout (-6 timeout connecting)
    Macintosh-3 airportd[673]: Error: Apple80211Associate() failed -6
Until this happens, the connection is solid, usually with 54 mbs. I've googled around for these logs, but haven't seen anything conclusive. Any ideas? Thanks.

Don't mean to add to the possible confusion here, but most newer routers (Apple included) allow their users to "hide" their network, so it's also very possible and likely in an apartment situation that you can pick up interference from a network that you or Air Radar cannot "see".
So, trying to find the "right" channel becomes a bit more of guessing game.
Understand that you need "g" for your devices. For the future though, you might watch the Air Radar screen for channels in the 36-48 and 149-161 range to see how much less activity is going on there.
