Airport Network Doesnt Connect to the internet!

Hi,
I recently had a long powercut in my area and when the power finally came back on my netgear router would no longer connect to the internet and not even push out a signal (the ethernet cable still feeds internet when plugged directly into the macbook however). I figured the powercut damaged the router and replaced it with the new Apple Base Station Extreme as I already had an Express extending my network via another ethernet cable upstairs which worked fine.
The problem is still there with the new router. I have set the new network up in Airport Utilitly and the Extreme and Express dont always work. More often than any other issue is the the Internet is flicks from green to orange. The internet ethernet cable I plug into the Extreme clearly feeds internet but as soon as I plug it into the base station I get nothing (im assuming there may have been nothing wrong with my netgear router now and a problem with my connection).
I have reset the Extreme and Express many times and it works for a while (sometimes), but then I try to connect my ipad/iphone or smart TV to the network and it drops out. All products are apple apart from the TV. So frustrating as I never had these problems before this particular powercut!
Here are some screen shots of my network:
1) This is with the internet plugged directly into the macbook
2) This is with the ethernet cable (which feeds the internet) plugged into the Extreme (and etherent cable from extreme into mac book otherwise you sometimes can see the base stations). With this picture I couldnt access internet or base stations settings.
Sometimes however the system does work and then suddenly drops out. I have checked my DSL modem/router which feed the internet and there are no problems with it. It doesnt seem consistant at all. How can it suddenly work then drop out? This happens as soon as I connect another device like my ipad as well, then I have to reboot all over. I cant imagine that every device in my house are broken! My network has gone to pot!
Sending this with the ethernet plugged into my mac book direct haha!
Would be most grateful if anyone can help!

I have an Airport Extreme which I'm using for a wireless network. (The wireless router is connected to a DSL modem.) Can I also plug in my iMac to one of the free ethernet ports on the Airport Extreme to connect to the Internet that way? Thank you.

    Yes, you can.

  • My airport is not connecting to the internet. I have a cable modem. and i'm on the internet now connected directly to the modem. what can i do?

my airport is not connecting to the internet. I have a cable modem. and i'm on the internet now connected directly to the modem. what can i do?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • I need help getting my Airport Extreme to connect to the internet

    Hello everyone,
I need some help setting up my AirPort Extreme. I'm trying to reestablish the express after a couple years of not using it. When I've set it up in the past, I've always had a hard time, and by accident it seems, I click something or turn something on and off, and I get it to work.
I have  a 802.11g second generation airport extreme. I'm able to connect to my network and I can move files back and forth from the laptop to the desktop, and vise versa.
I have a MacPro 2007, ethernet cable connected to my Linksys router, with two internal hard drives. One has OSX 10.5.8, AirPort Utility 5.6.1, and everything is up to date. The other has OSX 10.6.8, AirPort Utility 5.6.1. I also have a MacBookPro 2011, It came with Snow Leopard installed and I upgraded  it to OSX 10.7.4. I installed AirPort Utility 5.6.1.
All three systems can see and connect to my network, but will not connect to the internet.  The extreme's IP starts with 169.254.xxx.xxx, and there's an exclamation point on the wi-fi icon.
The set up I have now is a Westell DSL modem from Verizon. I have the ethernet cable from the DSL modem connected to the WAN port of the express and the other cable going from the ethernet port from the extreme to the ethernet port of my Linksys router 4 port switch, model #BEFSR41 V.3. I have reversed the connection to and from the extreme with the same result.
This is what I've done so far with no luck:
    • Unplugged the DSL modem, Linksys router, and the extreme for about twenty minutes.
    • Updated the Linksys firmware.
    • I have reset the extreme from the back and thru the AirPort Utility many, many times.
    • I've done a hard reset. I don't know if it worked. After the extreme powered back up, my network's name and settings were still the same. On a positive note, I'm now able to get on the web when I set the connection sharing to "Distribute a range of IP addresses" using the ethernet on my desktop. Before, I was only able to do so when the connection sharing in AirPort Utility  was set to "Off (Bridge Mode)".
    Any other Ideas?
As always, your help is always appreciated,
    Rick

    Hi Tesserax,
Thanks for getting back to me.
Sorry about the confusion. My goal is to get online wirelessly with my MacBook Pro and be able to use the ethernet connection for my MacPro.
My DSL modem is a Westell WireSpeed model A90-210015-04, the Linksys router, and the AirPort Extreme.

  • Using Apple TV on a network not connect to the internet.

I am trying to use my apple tv on a network that isn't connected to the internet.  It dones't seem to want to allow me to stream my content because iTunes wants to authorize.  Is there a way around this?  If not is there a way to connect an Airport router to a wifi hotspot from Verizon? Thanks for you time.

Sorry i have no idea if you can connect an AirPort to a Verizon hotspot, but I can confirm you need an internet connection for authorisation.

  • Airport Extreme is connecting to the internet, but still flashes orange.

I've set up an Airport Extreme and it is connecting to the internet, however its light still flashes orange on the unit and in Airport Utility ver. 6.2 and it has a red circle with a "1" in it similar to the alert notification on an iPhone for messages and email. What does this mean? As I said, I can connect devices to it and connect to the internet, so it seems to be functioninbg fine. So why isn't the status light green?

If the problem does not resolve itself by powering down your network equipment, a complete reset of all your equipment is justified. Power down the modem and "hard reset" the Extreme, followed by reconfiguring it using AirPort Utility.
Power down your modem whenever you change what is physically connected to it. Make it a habit.
    BensonFam wrote:
Originally it had the "double nat" issue but when I went to bridge mode my whole set-up failed.
That should probably be resolved as well. More information is required regarding this failure.
Sometimes, an attempt to reconfigure a minor setting will result in what appears to be a total meltdown followed by extreme user frustration. In that event, starting over with a "hard reset" and subsequent reconfiguration is generally the best way to proceed.

  • My airport extreme cannot connect to the internet because it says it has no DNS servers. How can I fix this?

I just moved and am setting up a new apartment. Verizon put in internet service yesterday. I got a network going on my airport extreme but it could not connect to the internet because it says it has no DNS servers. help! What do I do now?

Ensure that the ethernet is connected to the WAN port (with the dotted circle).
You may have to reset and reconfigure your Airport Extreme.

  • Airport won't connect to the internet anymore after unusual reset

About a month ago, I was using my Mac normally.
Then one time when I had it on, it just resetted by itself. I don't know how. I don't know why, but it resetted. It turned off by itsel. Anyway. I turned it back on, and then I found out I could no longer get Airport to connect to the internet.
I then got a message that said "Your internal clock has reset, this may cause some programs to behave eratically".
Ever since I haven't been able to connect to the internet, but I have reset all of my clocks back to normal.
Sometimes 3 Bars from my internet connection show up when I start up the Mac but then my internet says connection error.
Afterwards, the three bars go away and my Airport says "!" .... and it picks up no internet connection even when my routers are on. I'm using another computer at the moment and it can connect to the internet successfully.
So I believe it is a problem with Airport.
What should I do to get my internet connected again, even though it already works? My Mac works fine otherwise !

I have a similar problem. I am using a Level One Home Plug (PLI-2030) bridge to connect to the network. Connecting directly to the computer works fine, but the computer will not connect to the internet through the wireless network. The wireless connection to the Airport Express base station is working fine. I have pingged the gateway and the connection is OK. The settings are as per those supplied, but the "Network Settings" on Network Diagonistics fails. Any Ideas?

  • Airport won't connect to the Internet

I am having problems with using my wireless connection and I believe it is because I have inadvertently changed a setting or two. When I try and use my wireless connection Safari says "Server not found". When I go into System Preferences > Network there is a yellow light next to Airport and it says "Airport is connected to the network BTVOYAGER2110-FD. Airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet." Does anyone have any idea what I have done or how I can fix this?
    Thanks.

  • Airport Extreme wont connect to the internet

I recently had to shut down my AE Base station. When I went to reconnect, I was no longer connected to the internet. I have tried everything I can think of from shutting the whole thing down, to full factory reset, but for some reason it will not work. I can see and connect to the airport itself, the Cable internet works (I am connected by the ethernet cable to write this), but I cannot connect through the AE. Also, I can connect to the airport through the Airport Utility, but the Airport Setup Assistant tells me I do not have the correct hardware installed??? Can anyone give me some steps to follow that might help me to work through the problem?
I have a cable modem connected to Virgin Media (which is definitely working)
The Cable modem is connected via cable to the WAN port as it has always been.
nothing else is connected to the set up, although before reset I also had an Airport express connected as a slave, elsewhere in the house. I have tried to use this directly instead of the Airport Extreme but with no luck.....
    Finally, I have no firewalls
    Many thanks for any help

    Welcome to the discussions!
If you haven't already done so, try a full modem reset as follows:
Push the reset button on the modem and then power the modem down
Pull the battery from the modem if it is easily accessible
Power down the rest of your network....all devices
    Wait 30 minutes
Make sure that the modem is connected to the WAN (circle of dots) port on the AirPort Extreme
Power up the modem first and let it run 4-5 minutes by itself
Then power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Power up each of your other devices one at a time, waiting a few minutes before you start the next device.
    Please post on your results.

  • Trying to get Airport Express to connect to the internet in a school intranet

I can get my new Airport Express to create a new network in my wife's classroom, but the school has an intranet that controls the internet access, so the Airport can't get on the internet.  What do I need to ask the school IT administrators for in the way of IP addresses, etc., and where do I include that information in the Airport start-up?

You will have to be careful about asking questions of the IT guys since most schools prohibit the use of wireless routers on their networks. A more sophisticated network can be configured to automatically detect the presence of a router and simply not allow it to connect.
We need to understand how the school's network works.
When your wife connects her computer to the school network using an Ethernet cable, what procedure does she follow to first log on to the school's network?
Is it the same as most hotels where once you have established an Ethernet connection between the computer and network, you open your Internet browser and a log in page will automatically appear. There you must typically enter a user name and/or password.
If yes, the AirPort Express can likely be configured to work. Post back with your findings and we will continue.

  • AirPort Express losing connection to the internet when part of WDS

    Hi,
I have an AirPort Extreme Baste Station (802.11n) and an AirPort Express Base Station. I have set the Express to extend the wireless signal via WDS. However, after a while the internet connection seems to drop. My computer still tells me I have full signal, and AirPort utility reports no problems, but there just isn't a connection to the internet! If I turn off the Express and then turn off AirPort on my computer, and turn it back on again, I can access the weak Extreme signal.
This is very frustrating. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to what the problem could be?
    Thanks very much.

I had been experiencing the same problem -- Airport Express extending an Aiport Extreme N base station via WDS constantly dropping the connection, but still showing solid green on the LED. I'm also using the WPA/WPA2 Personal encryption scheme over the whole network, and don't want to use no encryption at all or use WEP (which is pretty much the same as no encryption at all).
Anyway, I seem to have found a solution that works on my system at least. After I made the change outlined below, my connection has been up and running for 5 days now after losing the connection about once every 3 hours or so before that:
    1. Open the Aiport Utility, click on the AEXN base station, and click Manual Setup.
    2. Click the Advanced icon in the toolbar.
    3. Click the IPv6 tab.
    4. From the IPv6 drop-down menu, select Link-local only.
    5. Click Update.
The AEXN base station will restart with the new settings. You may also have to unplug the Airport Express WDS remote, and plug it back in after the AEXN base station has restarted.
You also might want to change the radio channel on both the base station and the Airport Express to use channel 11.

  • My airport will not connect to the Internet

I am trying to set up my airport express. I have set the Internet connection to Ethernet to reflect my satellite modem and dhcp. The airport express connects to devices in my home but not to the modem. I have tried to adjust the settings but it refuses to connect to the Internet. I have no idea what to do and there doesn't appear to be anyone who can help. I have two apple mobile devices and a desktop and laptop computer running windows seven.

Sorry, I found the error, FIXED

  • Can't get airport extreme to connect to the internet?

My sister in law just purchased an airport extreme for her windows pc and when we connect the ethernet from the modem to the airport, the amber light flashes, indicating that it has no connection to the internet. We have rebooted both the airport and the modem, what do we do now?

Download the setup manual for your AEB here:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#airport
    Follow the setup instructions.
Flashing light could also mean that a firmware upgrade is available for your AEB.
