Airport Network not reconnecting automatically at computer start

Hi everybody,
Just purchased a new Airport Express because the old one was failing often.
At each start of the computer, I find a window : "None of your preferred network is available " with the list of all WiFi networks in the neighborhood.
Mine is listed as well, so I have to select it and click " JOIN" .
The previous Airport Express was not doing this. Did I miss a setting ?
Thank you in advance
Alain

Please try the following:
1. Delete Preferred Network(s)
o System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
o Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
2. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
o Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
o Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
o Restart, or log out then back in.
3. Add Preferred Network(s)
o System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
o Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
o Restart or log out then back in.

  • Airport network not joining automatically

After changing out a modem and reconfiguring the airport extreme, all computers in the house (including iPhones and and a windows computer automatically connect to my home network, EXCEPT my G5, which says none of my preferred networks is available; asks me to join a network, shows the home network, and connects once I select the network (it's the only one showing). This never happened this way before, and all the settings indicate it should join automatically. Any help out there?

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, after following the instructions, the same phenomenon occurred. At start up (or recovery from sleep), a dialogue box appears that says "None of your preferred networks are available. Select the network you want to join and enter a password if required" My preferred network is shown, and I select it and the password is populated automatically, and when I hit enter, I am joined to the network, but it will not join without this procedure each time. As I said, all other computers join automatically, and, oddly enough, this G5 also joined automatically yesterday after installing the new modem and reconfiguring Airport. Today, however, I have to log in each and every time. Anything else I can try? All "remember this network" boxes are checked.

  • I installed a new wifi router and airport will not connect automatically to it. It sees the network but will not connect unless I tell it to.

I installed a new wifi router and airport will not connect automatically to it. It sees the network but will not connect unless I tell it to. I can't find anywhere in the utility or network preferences that will allow me to choose this router as the default. How do I fix this? BTW I'm using Lion.

Are there any previous networks that you have used that have the same password as Molly?  YES
Using System Preferences > Network > AirPort Advanced again, you need to remove any listings of previous networks that used the same password as Molly. Click the name of the network and click the - (minus) button at the bottom of the list of connections.
Also delete any other networks (except Molly at the top of the list) that might have used the same name...Molly in the past.
Delete any other networks that you no longer need so that your Mac will search for networks more quickly
    Click OK, then click Apply
Open KeyChain Access and look for a listing of any old networks that you no longer need. Click to highlight the name of the network, then click the Delete Key on your computer.
Then look for any old networks that might have used the name Molly in the past and do the same for them.
Then look for any old networks that might have used the same password as the password for your "new" Molly network and delete them in the same way
Click the KeyChain Access menu just next to the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the computer screen
and then click KeyChain First Aid
Enter the main administrator password for the Mac you are using and highlight the Repair button. Then click Start. You will see a message that repairs have been completed
    Quit Keychain Access
Power down the entire network...all devices...order is not important
Power up the modem first, then your main router, the other devices one at a time
Log on to Molly and see if the Mac remembers it after a few tries. If not, I'm afraid that you will need to change the name of the wireless network and password on your router due to corruption issues on the Mac. You have done everything possible without re-installing the complete operating system.

My phone connects intermittantly and quite often cannot find the network. Also does not reconnect automatically? Most of the time says unable to join network? My laptop and ipad seem fine? Very annoying Please help!

All the information you need is right here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html
Notice there is no mention of WiMax.
It doesn't really matter anyway as Sprint is rolling their WiMax network down for use by MVNOs. Actual Sprint customers will not have access to WiMax at all. It was a failed experiment.

  • OSX 10.9.1 macbook pro 13 retina - wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse

    Hello,
My config is OSX 10.9.1 new macbook pro 13 retina (2014).
The wifi does not reconnect automatically when waking up from sleep mode since I have a Bluetooth apple magicmouse.
It was not the case before I bought the BT mouse.
Is this problem between Wifi and bluetooth coming from the OS?
Is there a fix already available or scheduled?
    Thanks

    Hello alexandrefromfrance
Check the Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly section for steps on what to do when your MacBook Pro does not connect after waking from sleep. I have also quoted the section on troubleshooting the issue as well.
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet
After waking from sleep or starting up, your computer may not show that it is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
After start or wake, your computer may indicate that it is connected to a network, but does not connect to the Internet.
    Solution
Use these steps if your computer does not automatically connect to your desired Wi-Fi network.
Check your TCP/IP settings in the Network pane of the System Preferences. Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button
Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
Choose Network from the View menu.
Select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced button in the lower-left hand corner of the screen.
Click the TCP/IP tab from the top of the screen.
Click the "Renew DHCP lease" button.
Select the Wi-Fi tab and view your Preferred Networks list.
Select each network and click the minus sign to remove those networks from your Preferred Networks list.
Click OK and close the Network preferences.
Remove your stored network passwords using the Keychain Access Utility.
Open Keychain Access from /Applications/Utilities. Your window will look like this:
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the login keychain: Select the "login" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".
Remove your AirPort network passwords from the System keychain: Select the "System" keychain from the Keychain sidebar. Click the "Kind" column to order the list of keychain items by their type. Remove all entries of the kind: "AirPort network password".

Note: The above steps will remove your Wi-Fi network passwords. If you do not know them, or if your network does not use passwords to restrict access, you should contact your network administrator.
    Restart your computer.
Join your Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter your password for your network again if it requires one.

  • Bluetooth mouse does not reconnect automatically

Here's the problem I have: I pair a Logitech bluetooth mouse to my MacBook Air (original version). It works fine. If I turn off the mouse and turn it back on, it reconnects fine. If I sleep the MacBook Air and wake it up, it reconnects file. Everything is fine, that is, until I reboot the MacBook Air.
After a reboot, now the mouse will not reconnect automatically. In order to get it to connect, I have to go to the bluetooth assistant and choose the mouse and tell it to reconnect (or sometimes I have to repair it again if that doesn't work.) And this behavior will repeat - every time the mouse is turned off or the MacBook Air sleeps and wakes up, I have to go through this manual reconnection to get the mouse to work again - it is a major pain, especially since the mouse will go into sleep mode on its own to conserve battery power if it sits ilde for a while, and once that happens, then I have to go an reconnect manually again.
The only way to get it working again is to delete all bluetooth preferences, reboot, and then add the mouse back and pair it again. Everything will once again work properly until the next reboot, when it will be messed up again.
I have three different bluetooth mice - two Logitech (they sent me a replacement, thinking the mouse was defective because of this problem) and one Targus - I've tried using each one (separately), and they all exhibit this problem, so it's not the mouse.
I'm running 10.5.5 and do have the bluetooth firmware update installed for the MacBook Air.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there a way to fix it permanently that lasts across reboots? Is it a hardware issue with the MacBook Air?
    Thanks,
    -Mike

Hi Gang, I am having a similar issue.
I only have one Apple Bluetooth mouse paired with my MacBook. On the other 4 iMac machines in the office, we don't seem to have this pairing problem.
However, when I leave the office, close up my laptop and return the following day, I have to go into Sys. Prefs. to "refind" my bluetooth mouse. Humbug. Why doesn't the OS recognize this mouse automatically? Can anyone from Apple kindly assist? Support Board Guru?
    Thanks,

  • TM AIRPORT NETWORK NOT 'SEEING' WINDOWS7 COMPUTER IN SHARED IN FINDER?

I have a TM Airport network with an iMac and MacBook Air all working fine. Would like to have Windows7 computer show in SHARED section of Finder. Windows computer is able to use WiFi Airport connection to get online. But does not showing as SHARED.
What WINDOWS and MAC settings are needed to see Windows computer in SHARED?
    Thanks

First, can other Windows PCs access the share that you created on this PC? ... or is it just your Mac that cannot?
If it's just the Mac, then please try adding the Windows's Workgroup name that you are using in the Mac's System Preferences > Network > WINS tab. Be sure to enter it exactly as it is defined for the PCs. For example, if the Workgroup name is: WORKGROUP, enter it that way on the Mac.
The NetBIOS Name field should already be pre-populated with your Mac's Computer Name.
The WINS Servers field would only be required if you are running a WINS server.

  • Airport Extreme not reconnecting to the Internet

    Hello,
    I have a problem with my brand-new Airport Extreme 802.11n Base-Station.
In my network there are 3 Windows-PC's with a wired connection, 1 MacBook Pro with 802.11n (also brand-new), 3 Windows-Laptops with 802.11g, an AppleTV with 802.11n (again, brand-new) and last but not least my iPhone 3G.
I set up the Airport Extreme basestation to connect to the Internet via my DSL-modem with PPPoE (the modem is a 25mbit-modem from Devolo and works flawlessly).
This works fine at first and all devices can access the Internet, the HDD connected to the basestation and so on... I was a happy user.
My Provider requires me to reconnect to the internet at least once every 24 hours.
Now when the connection reaches its 24 hour limit, it is disconnected by the provider.
This worked fine with my previous basestation, every morning at 3am it reconnected for 5 seconds and I had no problems.
But my Airport Extreme wont re-establish the connection automatically.
It doesnt reconnect right after the connection is cancelled and it doesnt reconnect when a computer wants to access the internet.
The only way to reconnect to the internet is via the Airport Utility and clicking on the "update"-button to cause a reboot of the basestation.
After it has rebooted the connection will work for 24 hours and then the basestation needs another reboot.
How can I get my basestation to reconnect to the internet without rebooting it every time.
I would prefer a reconnect right after the connection is dropped but I'd settle with an automatic reconnect once a device requests a connection.
However, since most users are not very experienced, all of this would need to be automatic once i set it all up.
Thanks for your help in advance...
    Jochen

I have asked my ISP but they said it was an unknown issue to them and that they are not responsible if my things dont work the way I want them to...
And they are absolutely right in saying its my device that acts strange since the previous router (with integrated modem) didnt have this issue.
I will try to use QuickKey and contact the Apple-Support directly.
A friend of mine works in an Apple-Store and will need to look at this later, but he is on holidays...

  • Help - Airport network not working - confused!!

Hello, I wonder if anyone out there can help. I have got a problem with my airport network that doesn't make any sense and I havent seen another post with the same problems.
I have an imac G5 with 10.3.9. I have a wireless network set up, with an airport wireless card and two ax boxes (the second was bought later to boost the signal when we moved the Mac to another room). Initially it set up fine and worked for about 8-9 months. Then I noticed the second ax started behaving strangely. It would occasionally turn from 'green' to flashing amber for no reason - often after it had been on for a while. Turning it off and on did not change anything. Usually though it would work again the next day after being off all night. This continued to happen randomly until a couple of months later it switched to flashing amber continually.
I thought it had 'lost' the network so I tried using the airport set up assistant to reconnect it. However the set up assistant does not recognise ax number 2 any more, so I am not able to reconnect it. At the moment I am running off a faint signal from ax number 1.
I also tried setting up a completely new network from scratch. Again the new network is fine from the base ax bx but ax number 2 is still not recognised by my mac.
I also have a wireless printer connected to the network which does not work any more. This is where things became more confusing. The printer needs a boost signal to operate so when my booster ax went wrong the printer would not work. So I moved the printer and mac nearer ax number 1 to ensure it would pick up the network. However it still didn't work. So I attempted to set up the printer as wireless again, thinking it had become 'disconnected' somehow. However during installation you have to select the network to connect to. The computer would not pick up the apple network at all from ax number 1, yet it easily recognises our neighbours network from the flat above us. Strangely when I tried turning on the faulty ax box, the printer set up program picked up the faulty ax and not the original ax. But obviously I can't use the printer from the faulty ax box because it doesnt connect to the rest of the network.
So now I am confused. I am not sure what has gone wrong and what I need to replace. Originally I thought it was the second ax box that had gone wrong. But as the printer software can identify the second ax box I am not sure that this is the problem. Could there be something wrong with the airport card? I have checked that the card is properly connected and there is nothing visibly wrong there.
If anyone can help - please reply as I am going crazy here with things not working and don't know what to do next.
    Thanks, Wrenster

    Hello Wrenster,
I understand why you are confused, I was too while reading your post. However I have the solution for you. I believe you are a victim of environmental interference. Someone in your neighborhood just moved in with a another network, someone had a baby and is using a baby monitor, or maybe a local ham radio operator just got his license. Who knows!
This is what you need to do. Get all the devices in the same room and preform a hard restart on each one them per http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044. Remember to preform a hard restart! After performing a hard restart on all three devices check the wireless networks available. You should have 3 ( one main and 2 airport expresses) ( or two depending on how many airports you own, I am not sure from your post). If you don't have the correct amount you may a bum base station and it may need to be replaced. But if you have the correct number of wireless networks ( Apple network XXXXXXX), use the airport admin utility ( inside of the utility folder ) to locate the main base station and configure it.
You will know when you are on the configuration page when you can read Name, Contact and Location.
First change the name to the location of the main base station, ie; it is the den so name should read DEN. leave the contact and location alone. On the bottom half of the page is where you create your network, so under network name change it to your desired network name ie; when others come over to my house I have them select COWSWEAT from the network list.
Second click on the change wireless security and set the security to WEP 128 BIT and make your password. Once you have configured a successful password be sure to click on the lock on the main configuration page ( the one with password under it) to get the HEX password for your PC friends.
Third ( we are almost done ) Select the WDS tab at the top and enable this base station as a main station. Select allow other wireless client on this base station as well. Now on that empty list box below click the plus sign to the right to add other base stations to this WDS network. From here you should be able to select the other 2 base station that we have not configure yet ( but preformed a hard restart on). After you have added them ( be sure the check box for auto configure is selected) they should read in the list that was empty on the WDS page.
Now update this should start the update process and may take 5-10 mins, it should provide a summery pop-up when with each station is done.
( Also you may get a message that there is update for the base station, please preform the updates for the selected base stations)
Now when it is completed check to see how many networks you have available ( it should only be one ). Select the network and confirm that all of your base stations appear under the select a base station in Airport admin utility, then move them back to their homes around the house. Giving them 45 secs to restart they should turn green if not , they could out of range of each other or the environmental interference could be affecting them. So you my need to rearrange them until they all green.
    Good Luck,
    Cowsweat

  • Connect USB drive automatically at computer starts

    Hi Apple fans
I recently upgraded my home network with a 1TB 2.5' external hard drive plugged into my Airport Extreme, which we use at home to store files and more importantly as Time Machine HD for backup.
the trick is when a computer starts (both a iMac G5 and a Macbook are on the network), I need to manually connect to the hard drive for the OS to mount/recognize it and Time Machine to be able to run backups.
Is there a command or even a script which will execute this automatically so when one computer starts the HD on the Airport USB mount automatically in Finder? thanks for any suggestions

    Hi Jolly Giant
Ever since the Airport Extreme 802.11n exists i used wireless HD storage, and lately used it as Time Machine backup. Never had (fingers crossed) any issues, the Airport Setup is quite handy to setup access and password for USB connected HD on the AP Extreme.

  • New iMac wifi slow on Airport network, not on Fastweb

I just replaced our old iMac (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.33 GHz, Airport Extreme Card 802.11 a/b/g/n - OS 10.6.8) a new refurbished iMac 27-inch (late 2012) (OS 10.8.4).  The new computer works great, except with wifi - it is painfully slow on our Airport network, even though the old iMac still runs perfectly fast on that network.
We have two wifi networks in our house (in Rome, Italy).  Our internet comes in through the Italian company Fastweb, and its wireless router limits us to only 3 devices.  Both computers have fast internet connectivity when we hook up one (or both) to our Fastweb network (802.11g).  But that's not a good long-term solution because we need our main computer to talk wirelessly with other devices (like our printer and speakers running off an Airport Express booster).
So for the last three years we have also had an Airport base station (802.11n) based off the Fastweb network. We use the Airport network to connect most of our devices (including iMac, MacBooks, printer, iPads, iPhones, and two Airport Extremes -- one for speakers in the next room, and another to boost the signal throughout the house).  For some reason, the new iMac is painfully slow when it connects to our Airport network -- it can take 2 minutes to load a web page on the Airport network, which takes 2 seconds to load on the Fastweb network.  I would've thought that the problem lay with our Airport network, except that it's still plenty fast with our other computers.  The only problem seems to be the new iMac talking to the Airport network.
Could the problem lie with the Airport Extreme card in the new iMac?  It is a refurbished machine, not new.  Should I just be taking the machine into the nearest Apple Store?  We did buy AppleCare . . . .
Thanks very much for any ideas!

  • Airport does not reconnect after standby...

Is anyone having issues w/ wireless not reconnecting after standby? In order to resolve the problem, I have to turn airport off then back on. Most of the time I can get back on using on/off method, but seldomly I have to reboot. This is my config:
SSID is not broadcasted, using capital letters and numbers for SSID Name.
WPA TKIP set for router encryption. WPA Personal selected on Airport.
I don't seem to have this problem on my Macbook running Leopard, so I'm pretty sure it's hardware/driver related to my Macbook Pro. I have to keep tabs on this, but I almost think this problem does not appear when a network SSID is broadcasted and/or unecrypted. It could be my imagination but not sure.
Any ideas or same issues out there?

I always have the same problem; I assume it has something to do with the fact that I regularly switch my cable modem to "standby" when done surfing the internet. Seemingly Airport loses the signal (or whatever) because the modem isn't feeding a signal being in standby mode? When I turn the modem back on, I have to turn Airport back on as well. So far, I've just felt it to be a small inconvenience.

  • Why does connection not reconnect automatically after reboot?

When I had the security set to WPA, the Mac would reconnect automatically when booting. But when using WEP, which I have to with my son's Nintendo DS, I have to go to the Airport menu to choose the network after I boot. In the Network System Preferences, I tried choosing 'Automatic' or 'Preferred networks' but no difference. Any other settings I should check?

  • M177fw: when turn again, why does it not reconnect automatically to the WiFi?

Have connected the printer to my WiFi with passphrase and all, no problem. But when I switch off the printer, and later turn it on again, all WiFi settings seem lost. I need to re-select my WiFi network and re-enter the Passphrase. Where is the setting where the printer reconnects automatically?

Well I for one leave things on as electronic devices are like light bulbs.  The blow out when you power them on and off all the time.  Never had a light bulb go out when left powered on.  The energy savings are insignificant, but you can try this.  Reset the printer back to Factory Defaults and configure it gain and now power off and try.  If no joy, set your router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, never 'auto and try again.
