Airport Network Password Rejected. I need help.

First of all, I lost my connection with my base station, so I reset it, got in with the use of my password (because it asked my password), and then here's the problem. I hope I will explain it the best I can. First, it asked my password, and below that, there's this other option where it also requires a password. I am not sure what was that about, but I certainly mess with it, but, forgive me because I'm not sure, it was an option like for example to leap to other network--or so I think it was. After that, it click update.
Now, after doing that and certainly messing with (I should've known!), my network didnt appear and I couldn't get in. Now, I reset it again, and now my selected network (my own network) appeared, BUT I couldn't get in. It didn't required anypassword because when I try to click it, it only says "ERROR OF JOINING NETWORK"--now that network is my own and I couldn't get in. Somehow I did something to mess with it and somehow blocked me from getting in.
Since then, I did everythng that I know and knowledge to fix it on my own, and it never came back nor was I able to get in to my network.
I suppose I'm not the only who has this problem with Airports. Is there anything you can help me with so I can fix it before I call to Apple? Right now, at this moment, I was able to share with other open-access network to acces the web, so I'm fine for now.
I would appreciate it if you can help me.
THANKS
eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I've got a similar problem -- I did a factory-default reset on my Airport Express and when I try to reconfigure it with the Airport Setup Assistant, I'm prompted for a password. I enter "public" and get an incorrect password warning. I'm sure the unit was reset because I got the five green blinking lights... I successfully reset and reconfigured my Airport Extreme minutes before.

  • AirPort requires Network Password??? help please

hi - i would be really grateful if anyone could help me please.
i have a pc on which i access the internet wirelessly via a Netgear (sky broadband) router.
my young son has been given an ibook (PowerPC G3) Version 10.0.3.
i have purchased an original airport card and installed it under the keypad and in System Prefs > Network > Airport i have selected the Preferred Network (SKY**) but it also requires a Network Password.
I contacted sky and they advised the only password they have is my Network Key (consisting of 8 capital letters) - i have tried this, but it does not work
could anyone please advise me how i can find an AIRPORT NETWORK PASSWORD?
or, alternatively, is there any other way around this problem?
    thanks

If it is WPA, you will need to upgrade your operating system to OS X 10.3 in order to make use of that protocol, as stated in this Apple Knowledge Base article:

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.

One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • My ISP (Comcast) has just made my Airport network non-functioning...help

I just had to reconfigure some network specs to meet the requirements of my ISP (Comcast) and now I can only connect to the internet via direct Ethernet connection to the cable modem. I need help reconfiguring my network preferences to get everything to work correctly wirelessly.
This is my setup: 1 Airport Express, 1 Power Mac G4, 1 Powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.3.9), 1 laser printer
I need to surf the web and check email wirelessly from both computers. I have a laser printer that is directly connected to the Power Mac G4 via Ethernet. It's kind of an old printer (so I don't have the option of a newer interface) but it still works great.
I used to surf just fine and print just fine when I was set up like this:
On the desktop machine, I had the Airport TCP/IP set to configure "Using DHCP". The Built In Ethernet on the desktop was set to configure "Manually". I would enter an IP number that was one higher (than Airport)in the third part of the address, and make sure that AppleTalk was on for the Ethernet. (I had a lot of help from another discussion group a couple of years ago to set that up.)
The laptop just had the Airport TCP/IP set to configure "Using DHCP". There was no Ethernet setup in the port configurations.
    Everything was great.
This morning I wasn't able to connect to the internet or check mail. I contacted my ISP (Comcast). They told me that I had to set up both computers so that the Airport TCP/IP and the Built-in Ethernet would configure "Using DHCP".
So now I can connect to the internet, but only by having a computer directly connected to the cable modem via ethernet.
When I tried to use the Airport, my browsers were not able to load pages. The cursor was just spinning while it was looking for the server. No page fully loaded.
And now I can't print from my desktop to my laser printer.
    Please help.

    Michelle,
OK, so it looks like Comcast has changed something. Maybe the IP addresses of their DNS servers.
When you connect the Mac by Ethernet to the modem (It is a Comcast supplied modem, isn't it ?), open the Network system pref and configure Ethernet. Are there any entries in the DNS Server area ? It's usually two IP addresses.
Now when you connect the AirPort Express to the modem by Ethernet and then run AirPort Admin Utility on the Mac to configure the AE, there should be an entry for the DNS servers, if not, put the two numbers in that appeared on the Mac Network System Pref.
I have heard another rumor, that the Comcast modem has a record of the MAC address of your Mac's Ethernet Card, and will only work with that (until the MAC address is reset). Of course, if you've been working successfully with AE plugged into the Comcast for some time, this is pants. Rumor has it that to reset the Comcast modem, it must be left unplugged for anything from 30 minutes to 12 hours. Or if you have a second Mac, you can test the rumor by plugging that Mac into the modem by Ethernet and seeing if it works for that Mac.

  • VLAN with PAT and 3 networks...I need help with design!

I've been tasked with a major upgrade to my current network and internet access.
    1.     I need to have an internal private network with access to the internet.  This will be for large meetings, and I'll use a private network with 2048 addresses.
    2.     I also will have a small publid network with 8 routable addresses for Firewall, Web Server, PAT (NAT overload) for the above Private network internet access.
    3.     I want to split a class C address into two networks to allow one network (128 addresses) for Guest use that need routable addresses, and a second network (the other 128 addresses) for specific meetings that also need routable addresses.
    I have:
I have been issued a router from my ISP.  They have allocated me one .248 network with 8 addresses (6 usable) and a full class C network.
A Cisco 1841 router with 2 FA ethernet ports.  I would like to use one FA port at the outside (to my ISP router) and the other FA port as my Inside port (to all other networks).  I will do NAT Overload.
    I also have a Layer 3 Catylist 3750 switch.
Do I need to set up VLANs for each Network?
Can I place my network hardware on the 10 network?
Do I need router sub interfaces for my VLANs and can I PAT on a Subinterface?

    Hi Brian
    1. Do I need to set up VLANs for each Network?
Create seperate VLANS for each subnet and do the intervlan routing on 3750
    2. Can I place my network hardware on the 10 network?
    Yes
    3. Do I need router sub interfaces for my VLANs and can I PAT on a Subinterface?
Not required. You can do the intervlan routing on your Layer 3 3750 switch. From 3750 you can point a default-route to the router.
On the router you can perform PAT based on an ACL. Also you need to add Static NAT for your Webserver etc
    Thank you

  • RVS4000 Private networking, setting up VLANs need help!

    Hello,
I live in a two family residential house and we share a common fibre connection to the internet. In the basement we have a modem/router(zyxel) which is in "bridge mode".  Therefore not acting as DHCP.
Behind this zyxel we have a Cisco RVS4000 router. Ports 1 and 2 go to family A, and Ports 3 and 4 go to family B.
Family A and B have separate routers which are both set to "access point mode". Family A has an ASUS RT-N66U router while family B has a dlink DIR-615. The asus has an "access point mode" while the dlink needs to be set up manually to achieve this. The dlink must also have a static IP adress. The asus can receive ip adress.
What I have unsuccessfully tried to achieve and am currently begging for help with is to separate the networks so that both families can access internett, but at the same time it must be impossible to access VLAN1(Family A) from VLAN2(Family B) vice versa. Meaning no communication between the two families through the local network.
I have tried different options but I am not sure how to deal with trunk, tagged, untagged etc. etc. etc. It seems every time I manage to create two different networks there is still accessability/communication between the two VLANs and everytime I manage to give out different IP adresses to different ports i.e. 192.168.10.xx and 192.168.2.xx it is still possible to communicate. What also usually happens is that the internetconnection is severed at the same time.
Could anyone be so kind as to help me out? Since I am quite unseasoned in networking I need a step-by-step guide stating every action I need to take. If possible also with illustrations.
Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hello,
It sounds like you have almost everything set up but the vlan tagging on the ports. You will need to have inter-vlan routing disable which it seems like you have already done (enabling this feature will allow vlans to talk to one another). You may need to take a screen shoot of how everything is set up under L2 switch. Make sure all the ports are set to untagged and set to access port, you will need to put VLAN 1 on ports 1 and 2 and VLAN 2 on ports 3 and 4. As long as all the ports are set to access ports and untagged you should be fine at this point.
If you are still having issues take some screen shoots so we can check and see how it is set up.
Edit: while looking at the admin guide I see they are not called access ports. Guess its been a while since I've checked out a RVS4000.
    Hope that helps!
    Thanks,
    Clayton Sill

The Iphone shows network connectivity (bars on left) but when some one calls me the phone appears to be ringing to them but there is no ring on my side.  If I try to call someone the call just hangs and when I "end call" it goes to the home screen and when i go to the dialpad the old call is still "dialling".  I am not able to use the phone service at all.
The previous time it occured I just reset the Iphone using Itunes and in the process lost all the data but the phone recovered.  can some one help me with this?
By the way this problem occured after i changed the OS to 5.

If you look at wifi settings what IP address has been assigned to the iPad? If it starts with 169 then the iPad never successfully connected to the router. What security setting are you using? Some say WPA2 works best. You can also search the ipad wifi forum for similar problems since this problem comes up at least one a day.

  • Firefox never remembers my login names or passwords. I need help.

It sucks having to type them in every single time when Google Chrome remembers it on my work PC.

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.<br />
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.<br />
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.<br />

  • Need to reset Airport Extreme password, but the instructions provided by Apple and the support community do not match with what I get in my computer.

I have followed the directions given on the Apple support pages and the ones provided in this community, but they do not match with what I get from the Airport Utility. According to the dorections, after starting a soft restart on the Airport Extreme, I should select the network from the menu bar item (which I suppose is the symbol for wi fi). Then it says to open the Airport Utility and select the Airport Base Station, ok up to now. But the instructions say that after selecting the base station to "click Continue". In my Airport Utility, which is the latest version, there is no Contimue. When I select the Base Station I get a bubble with information on the base and an "Edit" button. By clicking on this button, I am able to get a new window with info on the Base, inlcuding password, but I never get the window which says that the device has been reset. I need help, as I have bought a second Apple computer and need the password to set the wifi preferences, and I forgot the password for the Airport Extreme.

You're doing everything right. The problem is that the Apple Knowledge Base article is outdated and the screenshots do not correspond to the new version of AirPort Utility.
If all you need to do is find the password for the Extreme, you can do that by following this procedure. Use the Mac that is already configured to connect to your Extreme's network.
You can retrieve your existing wireless network password from a Mac you normally use on that network. Your wireless network password is stored in your Mac's Keychain.
You must first have an Administrator account on a Mac that you use with that AirPort Base Station, one that is used to connect to your AirPort network.
On that Mac, open the Utilities folder. Find Keychain Access and launch it.
In the search field at the upper right, type Airport. All the Keychain entries for your base station will appear there, as well as other entries.
Look at the column "Kind". The entry you want to select will be labeled "AirPort network password" (not "AirPort base station password" or anything else).
If you are trying to recover the AirPort Base Station password then the entry you want to select will be labeled "AirPort base station password" not "AirPort network password".
Double-click that, and in the window that appears check the box for "Show password".
You will get the following window:
In the Password field type your Mac's Administrator password - the same one you used to log in to that Mac.
Then, click Allow, and your wireless network password will appear in the "Show password" field:
    Make note of it.
Close the window, then quit Keychain Access.

  • System Doesn't Automatically Connect To My Airport Network

My MacBook Pro (10.4.10) no longer automatically connects to my airport network (snow model). Airport Admin Util v. 4.2.3.
My wife's iMac also needs to manually find the network. This wasn't the case until recently.
    Any suggestions?

Do you use AirPort's "Preferred Networks" setting when connecting to the base station?
    If so, try the following:
    1. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    o System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
o In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
o Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    2. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
o Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
o Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
o Restart, or log out then back in.
    3. Add Preferred Network(s)
    o System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
o In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
o Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.

o Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list

o Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
o Restart or log out then back in.
If this doesn't solve the problem, I suggest disabling wireless encryption on the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), and then, reestablish it with a completely new password.
