Airport Network Suddenly Not Appearing

I have 3 Macs and the airport network has suddenly stopped appearing for the eMac. I've turned airport on and off and I've restarted.
My radio strenght is showing grayed out. It is not a distance issue either because nothing has moved and the eMac worked fine the day before yesterday. The other Macs in the house are fine and can see my network.
Any suggestions anyone can offer would be most appreciated.

Hal,
There have been a number of reports about OS X 10.4.x and Airport connections being lost and/or difficult to reestablish after waking from system sleep, often fixable by turning Airport off and then back on via the menubar icon, but I don't recall any noting loss of connection during normal use. A few possibilities come to mind as starting points for further investigation. What is the WiFi signal strength at the eMac when it does establish a connection? Are there any devices like microwave ovens or 2.4GHz cordless phones located near the eMac? What is the DHCP lease time? When all computers are online, what IP numbers as assigned by the Belkin router do they show?

  • Why does my Airport network suddenly not allow my iPhone to join?

Hello all.   Earlier this year I replaced our home network, which was two older Airport Expresses in a WDS with a new Airport Extreme plus an Airport Express to extend the network.   Everything throughout the house worked great.  Then a couple of weeks ago things got a bit screwy.  I won't bore you with all the details, and can't remember them anyway, but the short version is:
-computers upstairs connect unreliably.  Both airports are downstairs.  Upstairs computers have been fine in the past though.
-my iphone can't connect via wifi at all anymore.  Either the password is not accepted or I get a 'unable to connect to the network' message.  This with the phone in the same room as the Extreme base station.
-as far as I can tell, nothing in the house or our equipment had changed when the trouble started.  We did add two new-ish iMacs to the home network, both took over the roles, accounts, etc of other machines via Migration Asst, after the problem surfaced.  The machine downstairs is fine, the one upstairs connects to the network intermittently.    The problem upstairs is odd, the signal appears to be very strong, but password is rejected sometimes.
-the computers downstairs close to the Express were affected at first, but restarting the Express fixed that part of the problem.  I have also restarted the Extreme, which seems to have made no difference.
I'll be grateful for any suggestions.  Thanks!

You might want to delete the current wireless connection on the iPhone and then set it up again.
    On the iPhone.....
    Settings > WiFi
Click the small arrow at the right of your wireless network name to display more info
    Click "Forget this Network"
Power off the iPhone, then restart it
Setup the connection again to see if that helps

  • My Time Capsule's 5GHz network does not appear as a network any longer. Airport utility is 5.5.3 and iMAC is 10.7.1 The TC appears to be configured correctly in the utility screen.

My Time Capsule's, only the 5GHz network, does not appear as a network any longer. Airport utility is 5.5.3 and iMAC is 10.7.1 The TC appears to be configured correctly in the utility screen. This began sometime after upgrade to 10.7.1 however this does not explain why either of my iPAD's does not see the 5GHz network.

Wish some Apple folks would chime in...
Apple is not here. Even if they might rarely monitor these boards, they will not respond. We're all users, just like you.
Suggest that you open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
    Click the Wireless Options button
Check one more time to see if you still have the 5 GHz Name option enabled. If not, enter a check mark and click Update to save the new settings.
If 5 GHz is enabled, temporarily disable the setting and Update. Then go back in and enable the setting again.
If you still cannot "see" the network from any device, about all that you can do at this point is reset the Time Capsule back to factory defaults and try the configuration again to see if it will "take". Lion is causing some strange issues, and this may be another.
If this is not successful, then it's time to contact Apple support or arrange a visit to an Apple store to let them take a look

  • Ort Express- my network suddenly not showing up. System preferences, advanced/network shows network. Opened Airport Utility options grayed out except configure other but no luck. No set up assistant option to reenter.  Not sure where to go from here?.

    Airport Express.
My network suddenly not showing up.  Openend system preferences/Network & my network is there. When I open Airport Utility, most option are grayed out except "configure other" with no change.  Utility does not provide option for setup assistant where I could just start over.  So no wifi without network set up and can't use ethernet/router to troubleshoot.  I am stuck any assistance helpful.

So I went back to the PC after my original post, and somehow I was able to connect to the AirPort wireless network in the Windows Wireless Network List. Once I did this, it showed up in the AirPort Utility, and I was able to access the internet. I have no idea what fixed the problem, but maybe it was simply a matter of waiting a few minutes before connecting to the network?

  • Airport Express suddenly not extending

    First, some technical info.
I am using a late model Airport Extreme with an early model Airport Express to extend my network. All has been working fine until recently. The Airport Express blinks amber and the utility says the connection is good but that the Base Station was unable to extend the network. I have not many any changes to either my Airport Extreme or the Airport Express. Have unplugged the Express and plugged it back in, but get the same result. What would cause it to suddenly drop off the network? Thoughts?

    AMAZING!
Setup: AirPort Express extends Time Capsule both on 7.6.4
Symptom:  Suddenly AirPort Express blinks and AirPort Utility says AirPort Express seems to have problem extending the network
Solution:  Google "airport express not extending" and click link to "Airport Express suddenly not extending"
    Problem solved in seconds!
PS:  I wasted 5 minutes earlier when I pressed the reset button in my AirPort Express hardware and had to reconnect it to my internet connection as the extending network although the setup was very intuitively easy ( a very intelligent setup sequence all figured out by Apple ) ... then I read this !

Its a serious problem and many people are facing the same issue on both locked and factory unlocked phones.
I wonder when Apple will address to this issue. After all it is losing all its reputation!
See this thread, many users are encountering the same issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3425746?start=75&tstart=0
I believe its a software issue and could be solved asap Apple fixes it!

  • TS1398 Forget this network does not appear. It only allows me to join a network.

The forget this network does not appear... Only gives me option to join network.  I need to forget network. I hit the i button and it doesn't appear.

Odd...the only other thing I can suggest is to reboot the Wi-Fi network at work (if you can) and try again.
EDIT: Do you use something called Quickconnect client to setup a wireless connection? If so, this may help:
    (via Google)
To remove the wireless profile from an iOS device:
Go to Settings > General > Profiles
Select the profile you wish to remove (eduroam or UI-Wireless-Setup, for example)
    Select Remove
If asked, enter your device’s security PIN number
Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

  • Airport Connection- Network does not appear in list

I've searched through the topics and haven't seen anything exactly like my issue, but some close.
I've been ignoring this mainly due to not having the time to research, but have spent all day today to no avail.
I have a D-Link DI-514 router, my iMac is connected by ethernet, my Macbook via airport, both without issue.
My iMac however will not connect via Airport, the airport is on, but the network does not show up, in-fact no network does. However my Macbook sees 6 networks (neighbors) including mine.
The router is within a few feet of the iMac, I have moved it to various locations, still no network. I have duplicated all system preferences from the Macbook to the iMac, including Network, Sharing and Security settings.
I have booted into safe mode and back, still no network.
I began to think there must be a problem with the airport card, or an interference problem, so I booted into XP and successfully connected to my network with an "Excellent" signal, so the card works and there is no interference.
I downloaded iStumbler, on both the imac and macbook, istumbler sees no networks on the iMac, the Macbook sees 6, including mine, which it sees at 72% with 8% noise.
I've done this with both an Open Network and a WEP encrypted.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks
    Porl

The latest update fixed this for me!
    Cheers!

  • Airport extreme does not appear in airport utility and will not reset

    Hi,
Here's the problem: My base station wasn't letting me reconfigure its settings via ethernet or airport. I unplugged all cables and performed a hard reset. Now, it will not appear in airport utility either on ethernet or wireless, and it will not revert to the factory 'Apple Network #######' broadcast. It is still showing the name of the previous network in my computer's airport settings. Also, running iStumbler, it too does not see a new network.
Question: Is it fried? If not, what should I do?
    Thanks.

I'm may be having the same problem:
Airport Utility doesn't find the base station, despite being connected with ethernet and even now while I'm actually connected to the internet through it via Airport. In my first experience, I reset the base station, and then it did show up, though, as you said, not reset to factory defaults. On another occasion, it wasn't showing up again, but did the next morning when I sat down. Weird. This is on an Alum. PB 15" running Tiger (10.4.11). I also just got an Oct 08 MBPro with 10.5.5 and it's copy of Airport Utility is finding the base station right now while this machine is not. Is this some kind of bug? Both copies of Airport Utility are 5.3.2 (532.8)

  • Airport express does not appear in Airport Utility

    Hello,
I am having problems connecting my Airport Express to my network.
My configuration is all Apple. I am attempting to set up Airtunes. I have an Airport Extreme (software version 5.7) plus Airport Express. The Airport Extreme is hardwired to my Power Mac G5 (10.5.6) via ethernet. Wireless security is WEP 128 bit.
The Airport Express appears to establish a connection with no problems. The indicator light on the Express goes through normal start up and then a steady solid green.
Airport Utility shows the Airport Extreme but the Airport Express is not listed.
Any suggestions on how to make the connection are appreciated!
    Thank you!

When having difficulties accessing the AirPort thru the AirPort Utility, try the following, in order checking accessibility with the AirPort Utility after each step:
o Check the local connection. If you are trying to access the AirPort wirelessly, make sure that you are connected to its wireless network before running the AirPort Utility to administer it. If you are still unable to access it with the utility, temporarily connect your computer directly using an Ethernet cable to one of the base station's LAN ports.
o Power cycle the base station. Remove the power adapter's plug from the power outlet, and then, wait 15 seconds before plugging it back in.
o Perform a "factory default" (AirPort Express) or "hard" (AirPort Extreme / Time Capsule) reset.

  • Option to create a new airport network is not available.

My family has 4 new Intel core 2 duo imacs running OS X 10.4.8. Mine is connected via ethernet to a router, which is connected to the dsl modem. My system also acts as the airport connection for the three other systems which share my internet connection via the buitin airport wireless.
I want to create a new, more secure airport computer to computer network using high encryption, but the option to create a new network is not available. It's not in the airport menu from the title bar, it's not in network preferences, it's not in Internet Connect. I created a new location and it did not allow me to create a new airport network.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, depends a bit where you set it up, but I'd look in Internet Connect First, if you can't find it there then launch the Keychain Access app in Utilities.
Mounting a Network Share at startup is simple as pie...
Once it's mounted on the Desktop, open System Prefs>Accounts, click on the Login Items... drag the Network Share there!
Or, Sharepoints Automounter does it easily also...
    http://www.hornware.com/sharepointsautomounter/
But the solution I prefer is to just drag the Icon to the right side of the Dock between Applications and Trash, or a folder full of Shares, for a Popup Menu!

  • Website suddenly not appearing correctly in Firefox under Windows 7

I've had a website running for a couple of years now with no problems, but one of my clients sent me an email saying it's not appearing correctly on her system, Windows 7 runnning Firefox v. 15. I am on a MAC and have looked at the site on 4 different browsers and it looks fine, I also installed Firefox (v. 16) on a PC running Windows 7 and it looks fine there. Near as I recall I haven't made any changes to the site's structure, so I'm stumped. The website is http://www.horizonwings.org. Can anyone help? I've attached a couple of screen captures showing what she sees. Thank you.

I see the same problem as your client in Firefox 16 on Windows 7. To fix the problem, add clear: left to the style for leftColMain
    #leftColMain {
        clear: left;     float: left;
        padding: 30px 0 0;
        position: relative;
        width: 210px;

  • My airport network will not connect to to the internet via my modem. My host computer is a hp running windows xp. I have had great connection for 3 years. Then suddenly can not connect. Please can you assist

My airport will not connect to the internet via my modem. Worked for 3 years. Suddenly stopped. Main host computer is hp running windows xp.
When trying to connect windows states connection was cancelled. I have had hp checked by compputer repair and still have same problem?

The router is much, much newer than the computer, perhaps some characteristic of the WiFi network as it's currently setup is preventing the computer from connecting.
Try to go back to the basics: set your WiFi network to "b" mode only (i.e., turn off "g") and termporarily remove the password from it. See if the computer will at least establish a connection at that point. Then start turning on one thing at a time ("g" mode, then security, etc).
Not sure what format your WEP key is, but if it's not 10 characters (the minimum for the standard, which constitutes a 64-bit key), you can try making it that long. If it's 13 or 26 characters, it might be a higher encryption than the computer can support.
If all else fails, you could try looking on ebay/craigslist for a copy of Tiger to install on the iMac, which would have software support for more WiFi encryption schemes. Also, it would provide software support for USB WiFi adapters that would also be able to connect to more modern networks.

  • AirPort utility suddenly not connecting to network properly

It's really frustrating, because I've tried a number of things and I still can't get it to work. Basically, I had wireless internet connection working just fine, the router (Linksys, if it matters) just a few rooms down like it always is. I left my MacBook Pro on for a while and when I checked back on it a few hours later, the internet was no longer available.
Every other computer in my house is connected to the network fine, so I know it's not the router or my internet connection. Every time I select my network using the AirPort utility drop-down menu at the top right of my screen, it prompts for my network key, but every time I click on connect it just says "connection failed", and when I open up the actual Utility it just prompts me to rescan a bunch of times, stating that no apple devices were found.
It doesn't make any sense to me, expecially sionce I've had absolutely no problems for the almost two years I've owned my MBP. I've tried restarting my computer and my router but to no avail. It just suddenly stopped working last night and I'd really like to get it working again, any help I can get here would be deeply appreciated!

That has happened to me before. I think there is an airport utility that has been released recently, install that and see if it works.
Airport is weird. Try to connect your laptop and hardwire it to the router. Shutdown your MBP, turn on, and see if you get a signal.
Uninstall airport and re-install and see if you can aquire a signal. If not, there is a possibility that something with your router failed.

  • Airport icon does not appear

The "About this Mac" dialogue in my Mac Pro shows I have Airport Utility 5.5.3. BUT, I go to System Preferences - Network to select "Show Airport Status In Menu Bar" and there is no Airport icon. I click the + to add it and it does not show up as a selection. All I get is Firewire, Ethernet 1 and 2 and Bluetooth.
My Airport Extreme DOES show up in the Airport Utility box when I click on Airport Utility but I can not set it up as a wireless connection. I have the Extreme hard-wired to the Mac Pro. I also have a Mac Mini and I had no problem installing that computer as a wireless connection.
The problem appears to be that the Airport Utility for some reason, is not showing up under System Preferences - Network. Instead, it is being used as an Ethernet connection.
When I bought the Extreme, I asked Apple for help. They refused to give me any help with the Mac Pro because it is "out of warranty" even though I think this is NOT a Mac Pro issues per se but it is an issue with the Airport Extreme that IS under warranty. I will not pay for support because I do not at all believe that a company should charge to support their products. Charging for support is just wrong.
    Any help would be great.

Make sure that the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to work correctly with the AirPort Extreme. Unless you purchased a drive that was specifically formatted for Macs, the drive is likely pre-formatted for use with PCs.
Use Disk Utility in your Utilities folder under Applications to format the drive if needed.
Often, it helps to use a powered USB hub with a drive...even if the drive has its own power supply....since the USB port on the Extreme is borderline as far as its power capabilities.
