Airport (new applemac pro) connection to router issues?

Hi all
I know this subject as been aired many times, and I have scoured the forums for an answer but there does not seem to be a definitive answer. But here goes with our particular issue. We bought a new 15inch apple mac pro laptop a few days ago. Being PC users this was a big step for us.
Setting it up was not a problem but what is an issue is the so called Airport hardware/software.
I use a Belkin N wirelss modem/router F5D 8633-4 uk. This connects my PC and 2 pc laptops (PC and 1 laptop us ethernet cable, the other uses wireless connection). all works wonderfully well.
Having set up the account in the apple mac pro as instructed, we find that:
*we had to change from PPPoA to PPPoE
*the ethernet connection is fineish
*the wireless connection is not and cannot find our network. It shows it on the list but refuses to ackowledge it, it greys out?
It does for some odd reason connect via PPPoE but shows no network and thus when I check my PC for connected devices the apple mac does not show up. It may be using another network but I have no access to any other than the one we use at home.
I spoke to the people at Belkin who took me through the ethernet connection and helped sort out an issue re outgoing mail (it would receive and not send).  The ethernet connection will now do both. Issue resolved.
However, not so through Airport.
We have tried adding new account, deleting accounts and  even deleted the keychain as is suggested in these forums.
I have spoken to apple helpdesk but to no avail. Might need another go.
Basically all I am after, is that the laptop through Airport connects to the network and recognises it as such.
Any help gratefully recieved.
Keith

I was given this as a solution from another forum, it seems to work:
The only place you need to be making changes is in System Preferences > Network > Airport
However, before you do that, connect the MBP to the Modem/Router with ethernet cable.
Can you access the internet and do everything else that you need to?
Go through the Wireless settings on the router again, and remove any security (purely temporary).
Go back to the Mac and set up the Network > Airport (it may now be called Wireless) for your wireless network.
Once the security has been removed and you have restarted the router, can you connect to the wireless network?
If you can, go back and add security to the wireless network, WPA2 should do, make a note of the password/those numbers, and try again.
The PPPoE thing should only apply to the Modem side of the Modem/Router, to connect the Router to the DSL line and should not apply to anything on the Router side of the device. All your computers and network printers will not be concerned anything to do with PPPoE. The Router side of the device deals only with regular TCP/IP and wireless.
The wireless side of the MBP is not concerned with how the Modem talks to the outside world (ISP). If it did, then you would constantly have to reconfigure your wireless network on the MBP every time you tried to connect to a different wireless network.
Hope it helps.

  • New MacBook Pro 13 i5 Wireless Issues.

I got the new MacBook Pro i5 2.3 the day it came out. So maybe a week and half ago.
I`m having intermittent wireless issues. I have done some testing and even replaced my older AirPort Base Station with the new Dual-Band one, but still seeing a drops from the network. I have a ping going to my router and to the ABSE. I tried changing the channel and using 5GHZ or 2.4GHZ. I also have a AirPort express and seen similar results. I tried reseting the PRAM, repairing permission, I did not reinstall the OS but I dont see how this would help. I think there is a hardware issue with the wireless card/antenna.
I did upgrade RAM and HDD was changed to SSD (intel G2 SSD). There are no other issues, machine is fast, no lock ups. Other devices on the network do not seem to drop any connections (ATV, ATV2, iPhone4, iPad etc..)
The network drop outs are short but are noticeable and if a ping is going I can see the drops

  • Configure New TM on a New Macbook pro with retina display Issue

I have bought a new New Macbook pro with retina display laptop (Lion moutain OS)and a new TM (2TB).
I have an internet router with wireless connect.
I plugged TM to the router with an ethernet cable.
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
then I choose Time capsule from WiFi as shown below:
Then the airport utility (version 6.1) opened and start configuring TM but it gives an expected error when it is starting to join the TM!!!!
I have reset the TM several time but with no hope.
PS: I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6
I am struggling on this issue for weeks and I cannot yous TM on my macbook pro.
    Help please.

Time Capsule .. TC is the hardware box you bought.. Time Machine is the software you use in the Mac computer.. so what you generally refer to as TM is really TC.. !!
I can configure the same TM on a normal laptop with windows 7 installed and Airport utility 5.6
That is great.. you do not need to setup the Time Capsule at all then. It is already setup.. forget using 6.1 utility.. it is useless toy version.
Just use it.. open Time Machine and see if you can connect to the TC drive to do backup.. and to the wireless.
    From your statements..
Connect my TM to my macbook with an ethernet cable.(at this point I still cannot see TM on my Mac)
You are trying to connect with both wireless and ethernet at once.. This can mess things up. choose wireless or ethernet.. not both.
If you keep running into issues.. reset the TC.. I know yet again.
Set it up using SMB names.. for both the TC itself and wireless.
Then lock the wireless channel for 2.4ghz.. use channel 1, 6, or 11 (13 in europe) and see how it goes.

  • New Macbook Pro Connects to Network but not to Internet

I just got a new Macbook pro and I transferred everything from my old macbook pro from a timemachine backup. The internet works fine on my old macbook pro (running 10.5.8) but if I turn on the airport in my new macbook neither machine can connect to the internet. It also makes the internet stop working on my roommates pc. All machines can see the wireless network, just not the internet. Tethering from iPhone works fine.
I've given both macbooks separate ip addresses. Restarted the modem. Run network diagnostics (the server and internet dots are yellow), deleted all other saved networks and restarted, but none of that is working. The new Macbook keeps crashing our internet connection.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

You transferred your network PPC connection to your Intel OS X. Go to the blog How I fixed my dropping wireless Airport connection problem in Snow Leopard and follow there steps in resetting the preferences for the Airport card.
If the non of these steps work, take it to Apple ASAP.

  • Brand New MacBook Pro and Display Adaptor Issue

Hello fellow Mac users, I've been a long-time Mac user and owner.
I just got a new MacBook Pro after using a 2006 model for 2 years and am having a display adapter issue that I need help and advice with:
The new MacBook Pro has the mini DVI display connector, my non-Apple external display is does not support the mini DVI, no problem there, I bought the display adaptor...
Except that it doesn't fit the adaptor that fit the 2006 MacBook Pro.
    Please See Image at Link:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/sdjOcw1jrddqtAfjAU0Trw?feat=directlink
File comment: This is the adaptor that connected my 2006 MacBook Pro to the the display. It changes the connection from the Mac's DVI to fit the VGA connection of my display. There are the four extra pins around the flat pin to the left of the connector.
Somehow the male end of the mini DVI to the full-size DVI adaptor doesn't fit the female end of the full-size DVI to VGA adaptor! Please see the images. It seems a few extra pins prevent the connection!
    Please See Image at Link:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/4bG788QVKGCOIJUkzHcjKg?feat=directlink
Comment: This is where the problems begin. The flat portion lacks the four holes needed for the DVI to VGA adaptor to connect.
Is it possible to just remove the four offending pins in the Full Size DVI to VGA Male End?
Any help or suggestions highly appreciated, because as of now, my brand new MacBook Pro is less useful than the 2006 model, which can connect to my external display.
Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi Rob with a Mac and welcome to the boards.
My suggestion would be that you simply take the adaptor back and get a mini-display port to VGA adaptor instead.
I ran into a similar problem myself recently when I wanted to connect my own MBP13 to an overhead projector. I had assumed that I could use the mini display to DVI adaptor that I use for the DVI capable external monitor with my new MacBook, combined with a DVI to VGA adaptor that I had for my 2007 MBP, connected to a VGA cable to do the job, but this is not possible.
MiniDisplay to VGA adaptors for the newer MBPs are readily available at Apple dealers or through the online store and not too expensive.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Premiere Pro CC & New Mac Pro - Audio Line Out Issue

I'm having a few issues with the audio line out on the new Mac Pro. For some reason, Line Out locks into Premiere Pro. When I switch programs, the audio line out device stays locked to Premiere Pro and the only way to get other programs to be able to output audio when Premiere Pro is not current application, is to go into System Preferences > Sound and click onto an alternative output and then click back onto Line Out.

  • New macbook pro connects to HP psc printer but does not print

    Hi,
I have just got the new macbook pro model A5102 and i have followed the instructions on the HP website to install my HP psc 1317 all- in-one printer. I am using a USB connection, and I have followed the instructions, turning on printer, connecting via usb, checking for software updates. The printer queue is automatically made, and i go to printer and scanners and it is there in the list. I then go to print and nothing appears in the queue. I disconnect the printer and it goes offline so the connection via usb is working, its just not printing. I have also restarted the laptop and I have deleted and re-installed printer several times. I don't know if I am missing something out, so can somebody please help. Ive been to the HP website as I assumed I needed to download a driver but it does not give me the option.
    Thanks,

  • About the new macbook pro connectivity .. help!!

I was wondering about the new macbook pro 13". If i use a mini displayport to hdmi cable, could i use the macbook pro as a display for ps3?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
    sorry, but no.
The MBP has only a Video-Out port, not a Video-In port.

  • Airport Express - MacBook Pro connection dropping

Since I have purchased a MacBook Pro I have problems with the Airport Express connection. Before I had a PowerBook G4 and I did not experienced any problems at all. The connection or signal strength drops within a few seconds from 3 lines to 0 (based on the status bar radar). When I use the OSX application "Internet connection" I see a signal strength in between 0 (no connection) and 5 (bad connection).
I already installed AirPort Express Firmware Update 6.3 for Mac OS X, AirPort Extreme Update 2007-002 and AirPort Extreme Update 2007-003, but i did not make any difference. Also I have changed the channel after downloading the widget Macwireless to see any disturbance channels.
    My problem is described already, but there is no answer, follow the links bellow;

  • AirPort Express doesn't connect to router via WLAN anymore

    Hello
A few days ago I've bought an *AirPort Express (802.11n)*
When I wanted to test it for the first time, I set it up to *connect to an Existing Wireless Network* and it worked, I could for example stream music from iTunes or print something.
The main reason I bought the APExpress was to extend the range of my wireless signal area, and since my router's got WDS ability I set the *AirPort as a part of the WDS Network* and logically I connected it via Ethernet to the router, and again everything worked.
    Now my problem is:
yesterday I wanted to use the APExpress to stream some music to the kitchen,
so I chose the profile in which it was set to connect to an Existing Wireless Network, like I already described above.
But now it doesn't work; the APExpress doesn't connect to the router via WLAN, though there's the green light which's supposed to mean that everything's fine but it doesn't show up in the AirPort Setup Assistant.
As soon as I connect it via Ethernet to router it shows up and you can start streaming music or whatever, but without Ethernet it doesn't connect to the router anymore.
And that's weird, cause for the first time I used the device it worked, but now it doesn't!
Now I would be very thankful if somebody could help me to solve this problem.
    Cheers
    Yasser

I've tried a bunch of 10.1.10.x's and none of them seem to work. The computer that does work has gotten the IP automatically, though.
I've been doing some reading, and it seems as though OS X self-assigns a 169.254.x.x IP address whenever it tries to get an IP from DHCP and fails. Aside from turning off both the router and the modem for about 15 minutes, is there any other way to make the router give me an IP address? And why does one of the computers work? Do you think that if we tried to renew the DHCP lease on that computer, it wouldn't be able to get one?
I'm not sure what the router is set to give out. How would I check that?

  • Wipe new Macbook Pro - Time Machine Backup Issue

    Hi,
I recently purchased a 15" Macbook Pro, i'd previously been using a Mac Pro - through which everything was backed up through Time Machine onto a external HD.
When i started using the Macbook Pro i by-passed the initial Migration request as i had'nt yet got the 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable for my external HD (have one now).
When i tried routing timeline on the MBP to the Time Machine backup on my external HD it ended up creating a separate user account on my MBP. This isn't what i wanted - i thought i could pick up where the Mac Pro left off but have'nt been able to figure out how. It's also slowed the MBP down alot, so i want to wipe it and start afresh - hopefully figuring out the Time Machine issue in the process.
    Thanks,
    brokenboy

    You can by doing this:
Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
When the system restarts you will be in the Setup Assistant from which you can initiate a migration from a Time Machine backup. In this way you will not end up with multiple user accounts.

  • New Macbook Pro 2011 MAJOR battery issues

I just bought a refurbished Macbook Pro, it was built on a couple of months ago so it is pretty much brand new.
    17 inch.
I'm having some battery issues. Yesterday I noticed that my charger (l-shaped) wouldn't light up -
it also wouldn't charge. After some fiddling around the light came on but in my menubar it read - "Not Charging".
Eventually I reset my smc or whatever it's called and now it is charging -
    but now,
    1) it won't charge to 100.
    2) at 97 percent it shows 7 hours 26 minutes left and then BAM!
it goes right down to about 3 and a half hours. And I'm not running anything but the internet.
    What the heck?!?!?!

You said " it is a problem with ALL current macbook pros. I did take it to an Apple store and the "Genius" confirmed this.".
It seems to me that the problem then should have been rectified at the Apple store and yout post is unnecessary.  If the matter has not been resolved I suggest that you go back to the Genius Bar and have them fix it.  No one here can do so.

  • New MacBook Pro has real printing issues.  Is it just me??????

    Hi
I love my MacBook Pro but I am having horrible printing issues.
When I move my MacBook Pro from work to home I have to reboot everytime to make printing work otherwise I get error messages printing from Safari. Microsoft Office docs will print BUT only if I press the print button, if I go via the print menu I cannot press the print button.
This is causing me all sorts of pain.
Printers are an HP PSC2500 at home and an HP PSC2700 at work.
Machine was all 'transferred' from a Powerbook 1.67Ghz that was working perfectly.
Does anyone else have this problem or any idea what the fix could be??????
    Cheers.
    Robin

Try Reset Printing System, a manu choice in the Printer Setup Utility.

  • Macbook Pro connects to campus wifi but suddenly Safari/Mozilla will not load anymore.

I've had my MacBook Pro for a while now, it's still running Leopard, but that hasn't been a problem. I woke up yesterday morning and the Airport says its connected to the campus network, but when I open Safari/Mozilla/Mail, it will not load, and eventually says that the server will not respond.
I have connected to this network for over a year with no changes/problems
it literally happened overnight. I left my computer to sleep like I always do and when I woke it up in the morning, the internet wouldn't load.
internet works when I use an Ethernet cable
my roommate is sitting next to me with her newer macbook pro connected to the same network that is fucntioning just fine. So it's not the network (not that I could do anything to it if it was)
I've restarted, turned off Airport and turned it back on, deleted network preferences, put in the exact same IP address that my roommate has (hers is different from mine, but mine will not connect with the one she is connected to)...
    HELP?

I solved my issue and I believe it was router related. I have a router through Verizon and their Fios service. My router was old so I caled for a replacement. when I received thereplacement I switched it the router to only accept 802.11n and this did the trick. Problem solved, stupid router.
