AirPort no longer connects to internet but local networking is fine.

I have an Airport Extreme router version 7.6.3. Recently the router has been dropping connections with my cable modem.  I have had to reboot the modem and the router to reconnect.  It is no longer connecting to the internet at all.  All of my wireless devices can find the Airport and connect to my local WiFi network but no internet access.  I tried connecting my macbook directly to the cable modem via ethernet cable and had some of the fastest internet connections in recent memory.  How do I make the router work?

mopar408 wrote:
I did.  They very politely told me - after checking the connection for 15 mintues with me online - that it appeared to be a router issue from thier perspective.  I was wondering if there is some way to test the routers basic functions, etc.
If you haven't already done so, install 5.6 utility on your Mac..
How to load 5.6 into ML.
1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
2. Download and install unpkg.
http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.
Roll the firmware version back to 7.6.1 or earlier if it will work.. the latest firmware is not the greatest by a long shot.
Then using 5.6 utility you can access the advanced logs on the Extreme.. you cannot do that with v6 utility.
It should show disconnections happening.
You can also access the WAN ethernet settings and set the Airport to 100mbit full duplex.. this seems to have helped people lately.
Of course nothing like this exists in v6 utility.. being a toy utility.

  • Airport Express Stopped Connecting to Internet, but Computer Says It Is

    Hi,
I usually can find answers on these forums, through FAQs and troubleshooting, but this one's got me stumped. I've got an Airport Express Base Station. It worked great and then one day - it stopped working. Literally, I was online until about 12:30am, went to bed, and then at 10:00am the next morning all was lost. In the airport status in the menu bar, both my laptop (running 10.4.11) and my husband's (running 10.5.x - not sure which)show the base station is connected and working. In Internet Connect, it says the base station is working. But I cannot connect through Firefox, Safari or iChat. I know its not the cable modem because right now I'm directly connected through the ethernet line (and obviously it works since I'm on this discussion board). I've rebooted, my machine, the Airport Express, the cable modem about 20 times, in all different sequences, with the same results. I tried troubleshooting through Network System Preferences and still, a no-go. The funny thing is, if I plug in the printer and the ethernet line to the Airport Express, I can't connect to the internet but can print just fine. I've also tried to reboot the base station to Factory Settings and it doesn't seem to be doing that (plug it in while putting a paperclip in the reset button). Is it broken? Did it fry inside? Anyone have any suggestions? Help!

Well, to anyone else that may have had this problem, I was able to reset the base station to its factory settings. Turns out I wasn't holding the reset button down long enough (duh). Went through Airport Setup Assistant and everything's working fine now. Phew!

  • Mac Pro will connect to internet but not network with other systems

I have an iMac in my studio reception and a Mac pro and Macbook in my office. All three systems can connect to the internet but the Mac Pro has stopped networking with the iMac. However the iMac can network with the Pro. I have an ethernet cable connection to the Pro (no wi fi card) and I have a wireless router on the iMac which has enabled me to connect the Pro to other systems through wi fi. I also have a PC laptop and the Pro can connect to it via wi fi. Everything was networking properly several weeks ago and as far as I am aware I have not changed any settings. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this annoying little problem.

  • Network Devices not able to connect to the Internet, but local network has no issues.

    Hello All,
I have been having this problem for the past 4 months or so(ever since I got the server).  I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 machine running a DHCP server.  I have 2 network devices installed on it.  One hardwired to the motherboard and one
connected by a PCI-E slot.  I got a second card because I thought something was going on with the primary NIC.  However I have the same issue with the 2nd NIC.  I have remedied the issue by setting the server to restart every 2 days, very inconvenient.
After restart, everything is fine for 2 days.  All drivers are fully up-to-date and Windows is up-to-date as of last months' updates.  I also updated BIOS to the latest version.  Any help will be much appreciated.
I have ruled out hardware issues, and here are my specs:
    Intel Core i7 3rd Gen @3.4GHz
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    Server 2012 R2 Standard 64-Bit
    Intel On-board Gigabit Ethernet
TrendNet Gigabit PCI-E (Realtek Chip embedded, uses Realtek drivers)
    Thanks

    Hi,
Is DHCP the only service that the server is used for?
What are you using for DNS?
When internet connectivity is lost on a client device, what does IPConfig show (a correctly assigned DHCP address or an APIPA address)?
    Is DHCP AD Integrated?
How long is the DHCP lease?

  • Not connecting to Internet - but on Network

Hi, My Macbook can connect to my Network - through an Airport Express which is wired to a cable modem. However when I launch Mail or Firefox I can not connect to the internet? My son's Macbook (using the same Network) connects without a problem and our PC also connects to the Network and Internet.
I used to be able to connect to the Internet through the exact same configeration a few weeks ago!!
    thanks

Good news, Genius Bar is stocked with Geniuses. He created a new network location and bam, I was on the Apple Store's wifi accessing internet. Switching back to automatic location (or any other old one I had made myself long ago) and it dies.
Corruption somewhere. So, try that first:
System Prefs/Network click Location pop up menu, edit location, click the + and make a new one. Now typing from a coffee shop, no issues. Hope it's that easy for others. Now, should I bother to "fix it" or live with the work around? Don't know, archive and install will wipe the OS and I can start over but that hardly seems worth it. Can't see why I can't just live on this location and tweak it as needed. Or keep making new ones.
I did throw away what I thought was the prefs file for this (back on Saturday) but I must have missed the pertinent one.
    Give it a try.
Oh, and BTW, whenever I've had a laptop that need to be shipped in for fixing (Apple stuff of course) I've always had it back in hand fixed in a matter of a few days, like 3!! Apple's service really is amazing, it'd better be, we pay for it!

  • Lion says "can't connect to internet" after sleep; network is fine

So our two-month-old MacBook Pro has developed an unusual tic. Now when we wake it from sleep, it is initially unable to access the internet through browsers or mail -- even though AirPort is connecting to the network and other devices on the network (iPhones and computers) can reach the internet just fine. Running Network Diagnostic says that the internet connection is fine. After several minutes, with no user input, it restores the internet connection. This machine is running OS X 10.7.2.

  • Can no longer connect to internet on my iTouch

I have had my iTouch for just over a year and had no problems connecting to the internet at home and elsewhere. I had to purchase a new router recently and now my Touch no longer connects. It finds the network with no problem but when I enter my password it still says "unable to join the network..." It works everywhere else just fine and my laptop at home connects to my wi-fi with no problem as well. I have tried to input my network under "Other networks" with no success either. My settings and password are the same as before but it still won't connect. Has anyone else had this problem and any ideas on how to fix it? I went to the Apple store and they said they had no idea why it no longer connects. Thanks for any help you can send me.

Are you running WEP encryption? Chances are the new router interprets your password in a form that the touch can't deal with. You can either using the hex code in place of the password you created or reset your encryption to WPA2-psk and create a new 10-12 character password.
If you don't want to change encryption, you can reconfigure your WEP passwords - 5 characters only with 48bit or 13 characters only with 128 bit.

  • My wifi bar isnt showing up at the top and i cant connect to internet but its not my router

my wifi bar isnt showing up at the top and i cant connect to internet but its not my router? HELP HOW DO i get wifi back

I recommend that you start with taking a look at the Apple Support article to help you troubleshoot what the issue may be.
If that still doesn't resolve the issue, we will need to get the AirPort icon back on the OS X menu bar to continue. Please try the following:
System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Show Wi-Fi status in menu bar (checked)

    1. Try reinstall iLIfe 09 from your install disk
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List* there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
*Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.
If that fails, then you're reinstalling the OS.

I still haven't seen a solution to the problem "unable to verify update iOS 7.0.2 failed verification because you are no longer connected to internet"
I did not have my iPhone plugged in to power during download, had plenty of power.
Download burped once and restarted download.
I got to the Verification step and it failed multiple times.
I plugged in power, I turned off iPhone and restarted.
I tried to do the download again and it goes to the Verify step
and get the same error message.
I do not have an Apple PC, but, have a Windows 8 PC.

  • Firefox no longer connects to internet on my mac, and windows machines, after v18. I've tried several solutions from Mozilla support and nothing works. Firefox

Firefox no longer connects to internet on my mac, and windows machines, after v18. I've tried several solutions from Mozilla support and nothing works. Firefox can't even connect to Mozilla for updates. Firefox just sits on the default search page and attempts to connect to websites by typing URLs, or by clicking on the links on the default search page don't work.

    You could try the following:
    * Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version)
    * Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs, then add it back. For detailed instructions, see Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet.

I have Norton Internet Security 2005 and have not had problems except with CDDB with a proxy server.
Assuming you are using the Norton forewall, but something should work with other firewalls.
As suggested, try turning off NIS briefly and see if you can connect then. If you can try the following:
Make sure you have all updates.
Go in to the firewall settings - configure programs.
Delete references to itunes and quicktime. You may find them listed under Apple.
    Restart the computer.
Then go into the firewall and manually configure these programs:
    In Program Files\iTunes - iTunes.exe and iTunesHelper.exe
    In Program Files\Quicktime - QuicktimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe and QTInfo.exe.
In fact for me the automatic configuration worked fine, but doing it manually seems to have worked for some people.
Another thing that can cause connectivity problems, go into Internet Explorer Tools>Internet Options>Connextions>LAN Settings and make sure that "Automatically detect settings" is checked.
