Airport no longer connects

Airport on my PowerBook doesn't connect. It was previously connecting to my Belkin Pre-N which quit again, and is again on it's way back to Belkin for repair. In the mean time, I've been connecting it to my iMac's airport through a shared connection, which no longer works now either. The PowerBook doesn't even recognize (see) my iMac's shared connection. It does see another wireless router that's within range and has a good signal strength, but it still wont connect to the internet.
I've had another post on here about why my powerbook can't connect through Apple Mail or iChat but will connect to the internet on Safari. Now, it wont connect to anything.

I'm confused. Wasn't the belkin the access point for your
airport/wifi/802.11/whatever network? When the belkin went
to the shop, did you set up the iMac as an access point and
connect it to your ISP? Or did you hook up the iMac to the DSL/
cable modem and then connect the powerbook with an
ethernet cable?

Yeah, I remember thinking that your powerbook was probably
still using the airport interface instead of the ethernet. You
were probably piggybacking on someone else's signal without
knowing it. Their server settings would have allowed you to
surf the web, but blocked smtp or chat services.
Before coming up with a solution we need to understand your
problem exactly. Fill us in on how things got set up after removing
the belkin.

  • Airport no longer connects on startup

It used to be that when I started up my computer I had it set to automatically connect to a specific network. In my Network settings that network is correctly entered into the proper field. Now it no longer connects automatically and I have to either retype it and click the "Apply Now" button or type it into the Internet Connect application and have it connect to the network from there.
I sure miss this feature! Does anyone know what the problem is here?
    Griff

OK, but as I pointed out, I already have the Network that I wish to connect to automatically typed in where it is supposed to be. And this has worked fine up until recently. Now to connect to the network, I have to go into: System Preferences > Network > Show > Airport where I empty the name of the Network and click on Apply Now. Then I retype the network name and click on Apply Now again and it will connect as it should have automatically after I logged into my computer.
Or, I can do the same thing in the Internet Connect application by selecting "Other" and typing in the name of the network and clicking 'OK.'
However, I have just discovered that I can accomplish the same thing by turning Airport off, then turning it back on. When I do this, Airport connects to my designated Network.
But the question remains, why does it fail to connect automatically when I startup my computer, and then log into my account?

  • AirPort no longer connects to internet but local networking is fine.

I have an Airport Extreme router version 7.6.3. Recently the router has been dropping connections with my cable modem.  I have had to reboot the modem and the router to reconnect.  It is no longer connecting to the internet at all.  All of my wireless devices can find the Airport and connect to my local WiFi network but no internet access.  I tried connecting my macbook directly to the cable modem via ethernet cable and had some of the fastest internet connections in recent memory.  How do I make the router work?

    mopar408 wrote:
I did.  They very politely told me - after checking the connection for 15 mintues with me online - that it appeared to be a router issue from thier perspective.  I was wondering if there is some way to test the routers basic functions, etc.
If you haven't already done so, install 5.6 utility on your Mac..
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.
Roll the firmware version back to 7.6.1 or earlier if it will work.. the latest firmware is not the greatest by a long shot.
Then using 5.6 utility you can access the advanced logs on the Extreme.. you cannot do that with v6 utility.
    It should show disconnections happening.
You can also access the WAN ethernet settings and set the Airport to 100mbit full duplex.. this seems to have helped people lately.
Of course nothing like this exists in v6 utility.. being a toy utility.

  • Airport no longer connects to known network, but connects to others?

I have been successfully connecting to my school wireless network for several days, as well as my home, and other random coffee nets. I tried to connect a few days ago and it beachballs, and then aborts. My question is, is there a way to reset the internal airport settings? I've tried a PRAM reset, I've tried power management, is there any other tips? The airport seems to connect perfectly fine to other networks, and I've seen other students connect perfectly fine. Any tips? THANKS

    anyone???

  • Airport no longer connects to OPEN wireless networks

Lots of people seem to think that their airport keeps dropping the connection to OPEN wireless networks because of the 2008-001 airport update. That is probably only true for a Macbook 2,1 (aka Macbook Core 2 Duo).
I had the issue on my Macbook 1,1 (aka Macbook Core Duo). I wiped the system clean. Re-installed OS-X. Applied all updates BUT:
    1. Airport 2008-001
    2. Security update 2008-002
I also downgraded the Airport firmware to 2007-004 (aka version 1.1.9.3).
Technically speaking this should have resolved the issue but it didn't.
Why do I believe it should have resolved the issue? Because the same approach worked on the Macbook 2,1 and they both have the exact same Airport card.
Now I have no idea how to get it fixed - I think I have tried every possible way. There doesn't seem to be any way to contact Apple coz I don't have a support contract.
But hey, do I need a contract? Apple broke this for me ... they should fix this. I am about to post this as a tech article on engadget and other places because there are SO many people suffering from poor testing on Apple's behalf.
    Apple, please respond.
    Thanks.

Visited the "genius" bar this afternoon - what a trip!! The guy said this is a Verizon issue, period. I was like you must be kidding, there are SO many people out there who got affected and not everyone uses verizon ... he actually got pretty mad and said you should be using mac hardware (router) and secure network. I even told him my second Macbook is working fine on the same Verizon network. This is their new location in the Northern VA area at Fair Oaks Mall.
I would call that guy anything but a genius, what a waste of time. This was my first and last trip to a "genius" bar.
If anyone comes across any new ideas, please share.
    Thanks.

  • TV no longer connects to wireless internet after installation of Airport Time Capsule

TV no longer connects to wireless Wi-Fi internet after installation of AirPort Time Capsule.

I am having a similar problem with a new TIme Capsule. The wifi on the Time Capsule was working fine for months with all devices, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iMac Air, Mac mini, and vizio smart TVs.  After a recent software update the Time capsule wifi no longer connects to the smart tvs or the iPhones. It still connects to the mac mini, iPad and iMac Air. I do NOT think the software update timing was just coincidental. But I have not found any information or other users confirming a similar problem on the Apple support site.

  • Can no longer connect to Airport Express with upgrade to iTunes 10.1

Since I upgraded to iTunes 10.1 I can no longer connect to my Airport Express (unknown error-15000). Another computer on my betwork running an older version of iTunes still works on the Airport Express.
Any ideas? I have tried to uninstall and reinstall airport express with no success.

Rather than disabling the firewall, try making sure you've got exceptions in it for BonJour. Although the following document is about a different error message, the instructions in there are worth trying. (At step 7, make sure there's an exception for BonJour as well.)

  • Airport extreme. XP outlook can no longer connect

Since October My wife and I can no longer connect to our office servers using outlook on PC's via Airport extreme wireless. Both our g5 and g4 have no problems.
The PC's indicate excellent signal and status says "connected "thru our VPN connections to the office.
Both PC's suddenly stopped working this connection thru outlook and the internet.
I noticed many discussion people are in the same boat.
    What happened?
Seems odd this is not getting much remedy information.
    Sounds widespread.
Are there truly any technical resolutions?
I suspect something in the latest XP updates, CAT login patches etc.
My IT office guy is an amazing craftsman and he could care less about a Mac router.
They ("Windows" OS people) are so sure of themselves...little hope they might suspect there own equipment.

    Two things to try:
...Ensure the appropriate NLTM authentication is enabled? Probably NLTMv1.
Server Admin -> Open Directory -> Settings -> Policies -> Authentication
...Ensure that the Microsoft Windows XP clients have a compatible authentication requirement?
This security settings authentication downgrade is set via an msc widget on the higher-budget Microsoft Windows XP variants, or directly via the LMCompatibilityLevel registry knob available within all Windows variants.
With the upper-budget Windows versions, you can run the secpol.msc tool, navigate to Local Policies - Security Options, then to Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level, then (if the box is set this way) switch from "Send NTLMv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
On all Windows XP versions including the lower-budget versions, you can use regedit to switch the HKEYLOCALMACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Control\Lsa registry key value LmCompatibilityLevel to 1

  • I set up Airport Express as Client, I can no longer connect to my wlan

I set up Airport Express in Client mode so that I could use Airtunes. My Router/modem is a netgear one and I use WPA.
I can no longer connect to my wireless network from my ibook.
If I plug in the ethernet to the router I can. I can also then see from the router that Airport express has connected itself to the router.
So what do I have to do to be able to reconnect to myibook to the WLAN?

Double-check these settings on your iBook:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
    - Verify that an AirPort option exists. If it does not, click "New" to create one. - Verify that AirPort is "On" (checked)
    - Verify that AirPort is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
Systems Preferences > Network > Show > AirPort
    AirPort tab
    - By default, join: Automatic
    TCP/IP tab
    - Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    - Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Proxies tab
    - Configure Proxies: Manually
    - Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    - Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
    - Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
    - Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)

  • Why can't I no longer connect to the Internet via my AirPort Extreme Base?

I suddenly can no longer connect to the Internet through my AirPort Extreme. Everything was fine until this morning. My Base Station is connected to a DSL modem and then my computer connects to the Internet wirelessly through the Base Station. The center light is on in the Base Station. The left light flickers telling me there is wireless activity. I can still access my printer through the Base Station. But the right light is no longer flickering. I have rebooted everything several times. Does anyone have insight into this problem. This is the second time this has happened. For over a month I could not access the Internet through the Base Station, and then suddenly and arbitrarily it started working again. This morning it just stopped again.

I've had the same problem - mine started after I upgraded to 10.4.8 on my MacBook a week or so ago.
I can see other networks around my home and when I travel, but can only connect via ethernet cable (and my ISP is comcast - I thought the upgrade was supposed to help make connecting with comcast better).
My G3 has no problem connecting, so I don't think it's exactly a problem with my modem, or base station, or even comcast. I think it has something to do with my base station and upgrading to 10.4.8. Btw, dropping back to 10.4.6 hasn't helped.

  • IMac will no longer connect to my Airport wireless network

I set up a wireless network at home using Airport Express some time ago, but as of yesterday my iMac will no longer connect to it. The name of the wireless network still appears in the list of visible networks but when I try to connect it just times out. The iMac is only about 12 feet away from the Airport Express access point, and both my MBP and my iPhone are both able to connect as normal without a problem, but the iMac will no longer connect. I have made no changes at all to the network, or the iMac - it just no longer connects. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Jason.

If everything else is connecting with no issues, I would go into the wifi setting on the iPad and redo the info there, user, password and anything else related to your wifi at your house.
It is possible whatever he reset may have reset something to default setting which will not allow it to connect. If you need too then verify the wifi setting by comparing it with another device setting that works on your home network.
    Good luck

  • I recently installed the 5.5.3 AirPort Utility update and my airport will no longer connect to the internet.

I recently updated my macbook's AirPort Utility to 5.5.3 and it will no longer connect to wireless networks.  First let me explain everything I have done already, I have reset my router, and tried on other's (my friends and my schools) networks.  I have been able to succesfully connect to my friends wireless (router is made by netgear), but when i try to connect to my network (WRT54G linksys router) and my schools network (im unaware what they use for routers) I am unable to connect, and my AirPort will proceed either state it does not have an IP address and will assign itself one and will not connect to the internet.  It will connect to the network with an IP, but will be unable to connect to the internet with the browser claiming DNS lookup failure.
yes, I have deleted and changed my location,
           deleted the selected service.
           tried resetting my router
           cleared my PRAM / NVRAM
installed the newest firmware onto my WRT54G
           Renewed my DHCP lease
made sure my Configure IPv4 is using DHCP
and theres a few more but i'm forgetting them.
Any suggestions on why the 5.5.3 update might of screwed up my airport?

  • After updating Time Capsule to 7.7.2, Airport Expresses can no longer connect

After I update the Time Capsule firmware to 7.7.2, my three Airport Expresses can no longer connect to the Time Capsule (their orange lights blink and they appear inaccessible in the Airport Utility). When I downgrade, they are able to connect fine.
They are connecting to the Time Capsule over my 5GhZ wireless network.

  • After setting up my brand new Airport Express 802.11n and accidentally using it to connect my iMac to the network...my iMac no longer connects through Ethernet?  Any ideas...I have tried everything without success!!

I have been using Apple technology for about 10 years starting with 1st generation iPods and our house now includes a 5 year old iMac, all versions of iPods and touches, Apple TVs (both generations) and most recently an iPad 2.  I have always told family and friends that Apple technology just works.  Unfortunately that stopped today.  I bought a new Airport Express 802.11n to use for AirTunes around my new pool.  I set it up from my iMac and accidentally used it to connect my iMac to the network for a short time.  Now I can no longer connect the iMac to the network using a hard wired Ethernet cable.  I have tried resetting everything possible, from hubs to routers to the Mac itself and it just will not connect to the network through Ethernet any longer.  I am now a very frustrated Apple user especially when the support site says I can't use the fast path support because my product was manufactured 5 years ago...I just bought it at BestBuy yesterday.  All other computers and itechnology in the house are connecting via wifi and Ethernet without any issue except from my new iMac boat anchor.  Anybody who can help me???  Thanks

John, thanks for the email so quickly.
I too hope I haven't tried "everything" either but I am reasonably technical.  I had done what you suggested to do before but I did both again.
Ethernet is yellow in the left side bar.  In the right pane it's status says Connected but then below it says "Ethernet has a self-assigned IP address and will not be able to connect to the Internet."
I have tried the assist me menu and Network Status has Ethernet Green, Network settings Yellow, ISP Green, and Internet and Server Red and Failed for both.  I have turned things off and on, checked cables, deleted all locations and tried restting them up but to no avail.  I even disconnected everything and connected the mac directly into the cable modem itself and the thing still will not connect.
    Thoughts???
