Airport no longer sees any networks

PowerBook G4
OS X 10.4.11
This is my music jukebox, and it's been working great until connectivity to wireless networks disappeared.
There are dozens of wireless networks here, yet the "bars" are grayed out, unable to see any networks at all. Other laptops see mine and the others fine.
Is there a way to reinstall just the network software? My installer seems to want to reinstall 10.4 completely at which time I'd have to upgrade to 10.4.11 again, etc. Used to be that one could repair/install selected components.

Well, I took the Airport card out, disconnected the antenna, reattached and reseated the card...still no good.
Then I remembered having an old Lucent WaveLan Silver card. Downloaded the driver from http://www.ioxperts.com/products/80211b_X.html. This worked.
Also, here they suggest you can rip the antenna off a Lucent card and replace the Airport card with it: http://www.schwie.com/brad/?p=15. I think I'll leave it like this until I get a new MacBook and our current MacBook becomes the jukebox server.
Thanks for all your help! This process at least got it running again. I appreciate it.

  • My old PowerPC G4 no longer sees any wireless networks

My old PowerPC G4 no longer sees any wireless networks. The PowerPC and my new iMac was powered off for a week. When I powered them on, the iMac found the usual wireless networks that are seen around here but the PowerPC did not see ANY! Even though they sit next to each other!! The G4 worked fine before and was connected to the internet.
The G4 has an AirPort card in it and IS enabled. Is the problem with the card (how do I verify?) or did something get turned off on the re-boot?
BTW the AirPort card does shows up in the system info and has firmware version 9.52 but states that "wireless network not available" under the Current Wireless Network.
    How do I fix this?
    Please Help!

As this is an old G4, I presume you have a PCI network card.
I had a similar problem on my son's old G4. After a lot of messing around thinking it was a software problem, I discovered that the antenna was damaged and did not make a good connection to the card. I could get it to work intermittently by pushing it on. The solution was to buy a new card.
So try manipulating the antenna connection at the back of your mac to see if you can get a signal.

Looks like you have relocked a hacked phone when you updated.  The only way to fix it would be if you could figure out the original carrier and see if they would unlock it.

  • Airport Utility no longer sees any of my four base stations... help?

    Hi all,
I have four base stations, one extreme and three expresses. They have been working perfectly.
I needed to reset (to default) one of the Express stations. Upon restarting the EXP, it appeared as expected in Airport Utility with default base station info. I configured the EXP to extend an existing wireless network, then the base station had to restart to accept the settings.
The base station restarted and came up with a green light, but now Airport Utility cannot find any of the base stations. I have rescanned 20 times, quit and restarted Airport Utility, rebooted the computer, and still I come up with no base stations listed in AU.
The interesting thing is that all four base stations are working perfectly (green lights) and I am connected to the internet wirelessly.
Any thoughts as to how I can get Airport Utility to do its job?
(And Yes, I rebooted all of the stations)
    Thanks in advance.
    Matt

Maybe it's just Bonjour has stopped working.
Try connecting with the default IP address <10.0.1.1> from Menu > File > Configure Other ...
Note: Change <10.0.1.1> to what ever your default DHCP address is.

  • Wirelss drops out - can no longer see any networks

Hi all, I have searched for other threads with similar problems but I could not find one exactly like mine.
Recently I have had problems where I have been surfing on firefox, and then all of a sudden it has automatically switched to "Work Offline". I then check my airport status and it is not connected to my network. When I turn airport off, and then on again, it then cannot see any network at all. I have to restart my computer.
    Any ideas?

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • IMac no longer detecting any networks...

    Hi again all...
My 24 inch white iMac recently went in for repair after having graphics issues (no other issue ever, everything perfect). It came back, switched it on, runs fast again and has no graphics issues.
However, Airport now does not seem to be detecting ANY network at all. Normally it would pick up my home network (router in the next room), as well as 1-2 other networks which are likely from other houses nearby. This has always been the same for the life of the computer. My MacBook has absolutely no issues detecting my home network as well as other networks, as per usual.
I have tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, removing and re-adding Airport, running Network Diagnostics, etc but it just cannot find anything at all. I even tried messing with my router a bit by changing the security a few times, the MacBook detected it fine again, but nothing on the iMac. Same thing after trying another router too. Also, the Airport card seems to be detected fine in System Profiler.
I cannot seem to figure out what's causing this and how to resolve it. Please can anyone advise me on what else I could try and what the problem could be?
Thanks, hope you guys can help!

    HI,
    Try changing the Airport Channel.
    Open AirPort Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select the device you’re setting up on the left and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.
If that doesn't help, go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart the iMac.
If nothing above has helped, try the Airport Troubleshooting Guide here.

  • Mac Mini Airport Extreme - Cannot Detect Any Networks

    Hello,
Last week my Mac Mini (Power PC)'s hard disk crashed. So I did a DIY replacement. I managed to re-install all the software, and installed all the latest updates.
However, for some reason, the Airport Extreme is not detecting any wireless network after the re-install.
My own wireless network router is a third-party, which has been working well for the last 2 years. My Window PC and laptop still connects to it fine.
I can see the Airport icon but it doesn't how any detected networks (and there are quite a few in my neighbourhood). I did Apple Hardware Test and it shows the Airport card to be working ok.
    Any help would be wonderful!

Mac Mini G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Sorry for the cross-post. I posted wrongly in Airport Express previously.

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I saw the thread before I posted and I'm hoping this will be solved soon.
The main thing that worries me is that in my case, the Mac Mini is not even seeing any networks - zero in an apartment block where there is at least 5 network on the air at any time

  • Airport does not recognize any networks, no signal whatsoever, SOMEONE HELP

Hello, I use an iBook at the office, i have been using it for several months here and at home, worked fine until yesterday, logged on in the morning everything was working fine, until airport had no signal, it did not recognize any networks, at first i thought it was a problem here at the office, all the other computers are working.
I tried it at home and it doesn´t recognize anything at all.
The network status says that airport is turned on but it is not connected to any network.
It`s clearly a problem with my computer, not the network, can anyone help?
    Regards
    Rodrigo

Rod1, Welcome to the discussion area!
Verify that the antenna wire is still properly connected to the AirPort card. It may have come loose.
If you have an iBook G4 you can use the photos in KB 108039, Properly attaching the antenna on an AirPort Extreme Card to verify that the antenna wire is still properly connected to the AirPort Extreme card.

  • IPod no longer sees  ANY wireless networks

Last week I noticed that my Touch would regularly lose its connection to the internet (the little wireless indicator would disappear and the only way to get it back on was to go into Settings > Wi-Fi Networks > "Choose a Network"). Then it started getting worse. I would follow the above process but would see NO networks. I would turn the Wi-Fi slider off, then on, and usually on the first or second try it would display networks. Somewhere in this process the iPod quit asking me if I wanted to join availabe networks in the app (the little pop-up of availabe networks quit appearing). Friday night a friend called to ask me for a phone number and I ran Safari, got online via the above, lengthy process and little did I know, but that'd be the last time my iPod would go online.
Saturday morning I woke up to check my email via iPod and it said no networks available. Normally in my apartment I can see 3, one of which is mine. I manually entered my SSID and was informed that iPod was unable to connect. Then I walked over and rebooted the router, still no luck.
The following also had no results:
    1. I "Reset network settings."
    2. I "Reset All Settings."
    3. Restore from backup via iTunes.
    4. Turning off "Fetch New Data"
The following allowed me to see my home network exactly one time (but still didn't let me connect.)
    1. Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings
    2. Restore from back-up
    3. Settings > Wi-fi
My network SSID appeared exactly one time, though neither of the neighbors wireless did. I clicked on the name, and got "unable to join..." at which point the SSID disappeared from the list. (which now only says, "Other..." and refuses to join my network when I enter the SSID and the iPod is SITTING ON THE ROUTER!")
I'm now at work and the WPA network at work also doesn't show up. Normally from my desk I can see 3 networks.
At home, I've got (at this point) an unencrypted, SSID-broadcast, non-MAC filtering network that works for 5 other machines in the house. According to apple my Serial Number is not worthy of free technical support so I'm appealing to the masses here with some hope that this is a simple procedure that I'm missing. If this is really a hardware failure of the iPod at 11 months there's some serious quality control issues!

I've got this exact same issue which just started for me last night (running 2.0.1 software). I was unable to pick up my own home network or my neighbours which always shows up in my list. I reset the iPod touch but to no avail. I then did a factory restore on it today but that didn't fix the issue. I phoned Apple Support and within 5 minutes he was filling out a despatch note and arranging for a courier to come and pick it up within 3 working days for repair. Luckily I'm just within the 1 year warranty as I've had the iPod touch for 11 months. Hoping it can be fixed quickly.

  • C7280 Printer no longer sees my network

I was printing just fine from my C7280 printer this morning - but as of this afternoon the printer no longer see's my router.  When I go to Network and do the Wireless Setup Wizard it will see routers in neighboring apartments, and even my iPhone, but doesn't see my main router that it's always been connected to.  I've rebooted the printer, re-started the router, upgraded the firmware in the router, made sure I was running the latest HP drivers on my laptop, and I even plugged on through USB and the printer worked fine.  I also reset the printer by holding down the #3, then #6, and finally #9 as I started it up.  In every case - the printer still can't see my router.  Any thoughts?
The router is an Airport Extreme running the latest firmware.  All of my other devices still see the router just fine.
Also - I printed a network report from the printer.  It states the Radio On - Passed, Radio Working - Passed, Network Name (SSID) Found - Fail.
    Thanks,
    Don

OK, on the front of the printer, in the Network menu, Restore Network Defaults.  Try again.
If that does not work, make sure that your Airport is:
    1. Broadcasting its SSID.
    2. Set to use WPA encryption.
    3. Have 802.11g mode enabled (along with others is fine).
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • IPod Touch no longer sees home network

My iPod Touch has been successfully connecting to our home network for years and suddenly no longer even sees it. It can see other networks (neighbors, home office, etc.) but not our home network. Our MacBook Pro still connects just fine to the network, retrieves mail, surfs, downloads, etc., suggesting something is amiss with the Touch.
I've upgraded to Lion as of yesterday, and upgraded to iOS 4.2.1 for the Touch. I was hopping THAT would solve the problem, but nothing. Still no success connecting with the Touch and the MacBook Pro still connects perfectly.
Oh, I've also RESET the iPod Touch Network settings.
Any suggestions for other things to try? Again, NO changes have been made to network hardware, only to software. What do I need to tinker with or adjust on the Touch?

luvlabs elsewhere has answered this same problem with an amazingly simple fix: reboot Time Capsule. That is, unplug it, wait about 15 seconds and plug it back in. It will take 30 seconds or so to get up to speed, discoverable, etc., but then my iPod Touch had NO trouble connecting. I had to type in my password for use of the network, but now it's back to its normal operation. Thank  you luvlabs! [I love labs, too, BTW! Big shout out to Grimmy!]

  • Airport spontaneously stopped seeing any networks

Hey guys, long time listener first time caller.
My macbook is doing the darndest thing. Randomly last night, my mb started disconnecting from my wireless network. I would re-enter the information, hit connect and it would connect for about 1 minute and then lose the connection.
This morning, it's gotten to the point where it won't recognize a single network. The problem is not with my router as it works perfectly on any other computer. I've tried to scan for networks with KisMAC and nothing shows up. I've also tried resetting my airport settings, setting a new location, nothing works.
I'm thinking this might be a problem with the antenna itself but I can't say for sure. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I had a friends MacBook core 2 duo with a ****** up logic card (use for parts only), so what I ended up doing is swapping out the airport cards. Also, the antenna wires go into the hinge that connects your macbook to the screen. The hinge could be pinching the antenna wires; try working your screen back and forth a little bit and see if that maybe loosened something up.
If not, you're going to have to go inside it. ifixit has some great step-by-step guides for getting to nearly any internal component (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Core-Duo-AirPort-Card/287/ 1). Once you get down to the airport card, make sure all the connections are done up properly, and try reseating it. While you're in there, wiggle the antenna cables around a little more just to loosen them up. (Those directions are for the original core duo macbooks, the the "core 2 duo" came out in later 2006 ~September, so you may have that one. There's not much difference, but the airport card is slightly different. It has 3 antenna cables instead of two.)
In the end I'm not sure what actually fixed mine; replacing the airport card or fiddling with the antenna wires, but I'm not about to go taking it apart to find out. (If it ain't broke don't fix it).
    Good luck. God speed.
P.S. You likely don't have any, but it goes without saying that opening up your macbook will void your warranty.

  • While using the computer the wi fi dropped out and it can longer find any networks. I have played around with the air port etc , still have no networks and can't connect to internet. Please help

Hi I am having Wi fi connectivity issues , while using my computer the wi fi dropped out , I can no longer connect and no networks come up. I have tried looking into the air port, trying manually to connect to the desired network with no success , it says the Wi fi is turned on. I am at a loss to why it will no longer connect, please if you have any suggestions,as I tried to ring apple support but my warranty has expired this is my first major issue since I purchased it in 2009.
    Thanks

My 4s i-phone which is 2 years old cannot find any wi-fi networks not even my home network... I had the same problem two months ago but i turned off the i-phone for 8 hours and then it was okay... Now it happened again.... I tried to restart the modem but whilst my laptop is connected regularly, my phone still cannot find any wi-fi networks... I restart the i-phone, i reset it, i chose reset network settings, reset all settings, i turned it off for a whole day in case it was overloaded, i turned on the airplane mode and turned it off again, i put it into the freezer for 10 minutes within a zipped bag but 3 days now and i still cannot be connected to my home wifi... I went to the technician today and he told me that it means that wi-fi is broken and that i need to change it with a charge of 70 euro but i have to give my phone for 10 working days so as to be fixed... I am so frustrated and i don't know if i want to give 70 euro for wifi since i don't know if it would make the same problems again...

  • ITunes 10.2 (34) no longer sees any of my iOS devices

I've seen this problem on the PC iTunes boards, but it's happened to me on my Mac pro. Both my iPhone and my iPd are no longer 'seen' by latest iTunes. iPhoto still launches and works normally. But I can find no reason for the apparent cold shoulder from the new iTunes. I've tried all the basic stuff, restarts ETC. Any ideas?
Just to clarify, when I plug the ipad or iPhone 4 or the iphone 3 in, iTunes does nothing. iPhotos launches like normal, the devices 'beep' when connected. They charge. But iTunes ignores them.

Here's an update for those with a similar issue. I took the advice from another post and downloaded the iTunes DMG file. Installed it, more or less, over the auto-updated version, and it now works.
A little something-something went hooy in the auto update of iTunes I guess.

  • IPod Touch No Longer Sees Home Network - Has Been Fine For The Past Year!

Tried to connect my ipod to the internet this morning and it connected fine, then the signal dropped out and back in again.
It did the hokey cokey for a while before dissconnecting all together, now it wont even see the SSID of my network.
Ive tried reseting the network settings, reseting the ipod, inputting the nework info manualy and deleting recently downloaded apps.
I went through all the info on the apple website and followed the instructions etc.
I havnt changed anything on my router or ipod and all my other devices connect fine (2nd ipod touch, laptop etc).
On a couple of occasions it has seen my network and ive managed to connect only for it to dissapear again seconds later!
Reset my router (Netgear DG834g) and disabled the security, it saw the network so I selected it and the 'tick' came up by its name but the iPod wasnt assigned an IP or DNS etc then it said 'cannot connect to network (network name)'.
Now on a couple of occasions the ipod has lost its mac address and had no wi-fi options what so ever!
    Any help would be appreciated.

Exactly the same issue for me, this is a replacement iPod I got 3 days ago due to a battery issue.. it has been working perfectly since I got the replacement iPod touch, but now, it picks up no networks at all even though there are at least 4 nearby which it used to pickup.. If I take my iPod right next to the router I get a single bar signal but get the "could not connect to the internet" error and the network is disconnected. I am taking my iPod to the nearest Apple store tomorrow. It's an iPod touch 1g 8GB by the way..
EDIT: And I have tried it on 3 different networks, at college and at home and doesn't pick up any of them, so I highly doubt it's a router issue..
