Airport not accepting users at the same time???

I searched the archives so my apologies if this topic has already been answered. Please help. About a week ago we discontinued dsl and got cable internet. All seemed to be working fine for a few days with the airport extreme and two expresses in the house. (modem supplied by adelphia and plugged into WAN port of extreme). Then we noticed that we lost service every time we went into the vicinity of one of the expresses, and realized that the light was always yellow. We couldn't get it to connect, so we just got rid of it. That's when our problems started.
Now, whenever we do diagnostics (using safari) we can easily connect with one computer by restarting the modem and airport. Problem is then the other computer gets disconnected. We can connect by directly plugging the computer into the ethernet cable from the modem, so we know it's not the cable modem. I don't understand when only one computer can connect at a time using airport, but that seems to be the case right now.
Are there any suggestions to what we might try? Thanks so much!!!

try a complete system reset.
Just a thought, and a little more info.
In Kansas, the land of the 3 suns, we have some
storms that are worth writing home about. I lost an
extreme because of exactly what you explained just
the WAN port everything else was fine.
Fortunatly in my case Applecare took care of it.
Just one final idea. sometimes when doing a complete
system reset it requires you to wait longer than the
5 minutes and if for some reason your not waiting
long enough for your Modem and your Extreme to
acquire the signal it will also cause you problems
with the wireless portion of your Airport Extreme.
First make sure your settings in System Preferences
and Network are set to Airport and it is highlighted
with the green dot and drag it to the top of the
list.
Next sut your computers clear off.
Next make sure you pull the power adapter from the
ISP's Modem and the Airport Extreme and wait 10
minutes this time, now inthis order after your wait.
Plug in the ISP's Modem and wait at least a minute or
until all of your lights are functioning.(Normally 3)
depending on the Modem you have.
After this plug in the power adapter to the Extreme.
NOTE: just sutting them off with the power button
doesn't work you have to pull the power adapter from
the back of both.
Now that you have waited the 2nd time for the Extreme
to acquire the signal you should be good to go.
another NOTE: I have had to repeat this process as
many as 3 time before I have gotten it to work each
time waiting longer in between steps. If this doesn't
do the trick then you might have very well have
cooked something atributed to the power outage caused
by either a Power Surge or Lightning
Ignore the storm and lightning unless it applies.

You know, I really hate being an idiot--but I guess you always learn from your mistakes!!
So, this is what happened--I followed all the directions (or so I thought) for resetting the airport, checking the indicator lights, unplugging for half and hour--all that. EXCEPT, that when I was resetting the airport, the airport was OFF!! The dsl modem which I used to have required you to hit the reset button when it was off--I don't know why. So I naturally assumed that I had to unplug the airport and hold the reset button. But alas, butthead over here needed to reset the airport while it was on. So, that was the solution. You guys are all so helpful and kind to us morons....er, I'm not the only one, right???

    I want to be able to use wireless internet and stream music to my stereo at the same time, but I only have a single internet connection behind my stereo and it's connected to the Pay TV. My options seem to be getting a new line installed behind the stereo so I can insert this into the same Airport Express base station I use for my music, or buying a second Airport Express base station and connecting it to one of the other internet connections in the room, then connecting to both Airport Express base stations at the same time.
    Is this possible? Are there other alternatives?

    Nate, Welcome to the discussion area!
    Once you have a network, you can connect multiple AirPort Express (AX) to that network (wirelessly or via Ethernet). When your computer joins that network it can access all the AX.
    You could take your current internet connection and run it into an inexpensive router with multiple Ethernet ports (not the AX). If this is a wireless router then your AXs could be located elsewhere and connect as wireless clients to that network. Once you computer joined that network it could stream music to the AXs.

    Another user just has a similar issue tonight and I advised him to go to the below Apple support link to see if the password was recognized there, which eventually resolved his username/passowrd issue. Give it a try and see if it works.

    Hi there, i photograph charity functions and do onsite printing, at the moment i use a MBA to preview the photo and then print. What i want to do is use one mac to preview the shot and another to edit and print. Is there a way to do this using Aperture ?

    It is risky to put the Aperture library onto a network volume or to acces it by more than one user at the same time. Aperture is not made for Network access or concurrent access by more than one user. The simplest solution for your problem would be to move your Aperture library to a portable, external disk and plug this drive into the mac you are curently working with.
    The external drive needs to be formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled) and the "Ignore ownership on this volume" needs to be set.
    The procedure is explained here for an iPhoto Library, but it would be exctly the same for an Aperture library: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users

    If you're asking whether more than one user can use the computer at the same time with multiple displays, the answer is no. Other users can log in over a network with Screen Sharing, but each one will need his own computer (not necessarily a Mac.)

    Hello all,
    I recently bought a 2nd generation AirPort Extreeme 802.11n to replace a cheapo wireless router. The main reason I wanted to get the AirPort was so I could attach a USB hard drive which holds iTunes music files Originaly I had a G4 MDD and this was a second internal hard drive. Since my wife and son also share my Mac, we stored the iTunes music folder there, so we could all access the files. That worked fine.
    Then I got a early 2009 iMac and gave my wife the G4. My son also has a G3 iBook, using the wireless internet conection. At first I had the drive in an external case attached via Firewire. Both my iMac and my wife's G4 are attached to the network using ethernet, not wireless. She was able to access the music files so long as my Mac was on, but the connection was flaky.
    So as mentioned, I picked up a used AirPort Extreme from OWC, mainly to attach the hard drive, since it's no longer in my Mac. It took some fiddling, and I was honestly surpsied that the APE was trickier to set up than expected, but now I have the external drive mounting, and we can all access the files from any of the Macs in the house. It works great except for one thing. If I'm logged into my iMac, and then another family member logs in on the same iMac, we don't all have access to the hard drive. It's still mounted, but the you have no permission to view the files on it.
    Then if I remount it, I can access the files, but now the other user can't.
    So in a nutshell, only one user can access the drive at the same time from the iMac, but we can all access it from different Macs.
    Anyone have an idea of why this is happening and how to remidy it?

      Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.

    When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Outlook autocomplete cache stops working for multiple users at the same time

    Ever since we upgraded our Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 we have had problems with the autocomplete cache in Outlook 2010.
    We have 700 users and about once per week I get a call about the autocomplete cache. A few users are on cached mode, but most use online mode. The problem appears on both, but it can usually be corrected by /cleanautocompletecache.
    Granted, the autocomplete cache gets corrupted sometimes, but it seems to happen a lot for us. I have noticed that often more than one user experiences the problem at the same time, and, since the problem starting after upgrading Exchange, I suspect that
    the issue is with Exchange and not Outlook. Yesterday three users complained about the cache at the same time.
    I know how to get a broken cache going again - that is not the issue. The issue is keeping this from happening so often.
    Anyone out there able to help?

    Based on my knowledge , when you tried to send an email to a recipient in the same exchange organisation then the recipient address will be resolved in to legacy dn value and then that email will be delivered to destination mailbox by pointing towards to
    that legacy dn value.
    For the external recipients exchange user the smtp address to get it delivered.
    For your issue :
    Based upon the NDR message , we need to covert those values in to x500 format and add it to respective recipient mailbox as an x500 address.Then These erorrs will happen if the x500 value of the destination recipient is not available on it's maibox
    and that would be the cause of the NDR for most of the times.Some time as you said autocomplete cache would get corrupted on the client end but it is very rare.

    In case if you don't want the users to use the autocomplete cache when composing the new emails :
    In group policy we can use the  office templates to disable the below mentioned option.
    1.use autocomplete to suggest the names ---> this option will comes under the advanced settings on the outlook client.
    In case if you don't want the users to use the autocomplete cache when composing the new emails as well as if you wanted to delete that autocomplete then you need to choose one more option along with the first one.
    1.Empty autocomplete cache.

  • Can a mac mini be set up to run two separate users at the same time?

    I work for a middle school and we need to purchase 20 computers that will just be used to run internet apps. Though we have all Macs, we don't have a big budget and for this one use only, we are condsidering purchasing inexpensive HP all-in-ones for about $450 each. However, I was wondering if a Mac Mini can be first set up with 2 partitions, install the OS on both partitions, then run two different users, with two separate monitors and keyboards, at the same time? This way, instead of purchasing 20 Windows computers, we could purchase 10 Mac Mini's (and displays) and save money, and still be supporting just one OS throughout the campus.

    If you setup a server, as in the Mac OS X Server Installation, pages 23ff show configurations, you can have multiple users, but they must all have computers.  Some installations can be done with dumb terminals but that is not what you seem to want.  Unix machines do have a multiple simultaneous user capability but you still have to have a computer for each user, again, not what you seem to want to do.  Right now there are two other users logged in on my Sun workstation on the desk behind me...they are logged in because I permit them to do so.
    And last night for an experiment I connected my iMac and MBP by ethernet wire, logged in on the iMac, then logged in on the MBP and from there on the iMac...but I set up the network to permit that and then disabled it again.  You can create security holes doing things like this.
    As dwb points out switching from Apple to PC equipment is a false economy that lures in administrators.  In our county school system we had a superintendent who hired a good friend...who had PC-industry ties.  Decided to remove all Apple equipment from the elementary schools and switch to PCs.  It wasn't long before they ended up going on a 4-year cycle of "refreshing" the equipment, i.e., completely replacing all hardware in every school on a four year cycle.  Since my wife was a Media Specialist, aka librarian, and responsible for technology in her school, every four years she had to develop a complete school map of where each teacher wanted the computers in their classrooms, complicated by where the technicians predetermined the locations of the network wire drops, of course.  then teachers get shuffled over the summer and all the plans are for naught.
    Anyway, there really isn't a solution to your problem except to buy a large number of computers and let each student use one and have them networked to a server, print server, printers, etc.  This is not inexpensive and cutting corners will only cause headaches for you.

    I have a Labview software which controls a analyzer via GPIB connector. When user A is using the software, user B has to wait until A is done. But actually, the analyzer is not very busy, when user A is using the software.
    I want user A, B, C and D can use the software at the same time. just like we can open Multiple websites at the same time.
    How can I program the software, so that the software can be open multiple times? Do you have any example?

    Are all the users going to be measuring the exact same thing from the same instrument?
    It would be possible to write a separate instrument server application that would handle all the direct interactions with the instrument. When one of the users needed to access the instrument, they would gain access to it through this server.
    The big, Big, BIG caveat is that each interaction with the instrument would need to be atomic. In other words each access would need to configure the instrument, initiate the reading, report the results, and then reset the instrument back to some known default value.
    As Dennis said, not a trivial process, but probably do-able...

  • Import PST files for multiple users at the same time?

    While importing PST files into archive mailboxes, the Exchange 2010 mailbox server went to 100% CPU and memory usage and I could not stop the imports because the EMS stopped responding.  We had to restart the whole server to get back to normal.
    Not sure if importing PSTs was the cause of it it was a coincidence.  We have done imports the same way before without this issue.
    How many PST imports can be done at the same time and how do we queue up multiple users and have the mailbox imports have unique names for each user?  I noticed they are always called MailboxImport and MailboxImport1 and then it starts over as MailboxImport
    again for additional users. So, if more than one user's PSTs are being imported at the same time, we will have multiple identically named imports running.
    We would like multiple users' PST imports to queue up and start automatically when the previous users' imports complete.

    Please try like this. Rename folder name same as alias.  i.e. \\server\share\<alias>. below are examples.
    "\\server\share\jsmith"
    "\\server\share\tjones"
    "\\server\share\rsmith"
    "\\server\share\bspears"
    "\\server\share\mmouse"
    And run below command to take PST from the corresponding

    If a folder missing with the alias you will see an error similar to this.I think this will work for you. You just keep only the required PST folders to import in the "\\Server\share" folder.

  • Updating single row by multiple users at the same time

    I have been asked to develop an application where a single row from a table will be accessed by multiple users. Even multiple users can try to update the same row at the same time. So, to provide a solution of this problem should it be the best way to lock that particular row when user requesting to update it and after completion of commit the lock will be released. In the same time if some other user request to update the same row then it will be in the wait condition.
    Please provide suggestion that is it the best way to handle the situation or not. If it is then can you also please provide an example (with sample code) of it.

    It depends entirely on how the system was built.
    You could relatively easily build an application that does something like
    - Select a row with as last_updated_date column
    - Update the row specifying the last_updated_date you had selected in your WHERE clause
    - If the update updates 1 row, it was successful, otherwise inform the user that the row was already updated.
    In this case, the second user would get an error indicating that the seat had already been purchased.
    You could also relatively easily do a SELECT FOR UPDATE to prevent users from ever getting an error between the time they select a seat and the time they finish their transaction. Of course, if the user wanders away from the computer, or inadvertently ends up locking dozens of rows, this tends to rather problematic in practice. You may find that when the train pulls out of the station, someone that never ended up buying a ticket has locked a dozen rows so you lost a dozen sales. If you have a call center where operators are reserving seats for people on the phone, you may decide that explicit locking is more appropriate because you're confident that the operators aren't going to leave tickets locked for long periods of time and the cost of having the customer walked through the seat selection process multiple times would be higher than the cost of having rows locked longer than they need to be.

    I have an desktop application and the following are the functionalities of the same.
    1. User inputs the data file with path (log file) to parse the required data.
    2. Once the user enters the path and starts the tool with start button, the tool parse the required data in terms of records and gives the records (creates output file containing all the useful records).
    3. Have popup window to display a group of data.
    4. Have popup to Plot graph. When a button is pressed in main GUI, the popup is opened giving scroll bar menus to choose the data for the graph. User after selecting the data (multiple Y axis) press another button to plot the graph. The input to this popup is the output file generated by this tool.
    5. The main GUI has buttons (play, step forward, step backward, reverse play, pause, stop, 1st record, last record - like tape recorder buttons) to play the records one by one.
    This application is used by many people and since its a desktop application (created in labview 2009), the user every time has to manually install the newer version.
    "So it is required to make the application into web based so that, the user can individually access the tool at the same time (different instances same as desktop app) and run their own data files from their system. The output files to be stored in the respective user's system."
    Can this be done using Web Publishing or Web Services present in LabView?
    I tried using Web Publishing but it gives control to only one user at a time and loading the files from the client path to run the tool is not possible.

    Simple. 
    If all you are worried about are updates, just put the EXE on a shared network drive and have your users launch it from there.

  • Make PDF formular only accessable for one user at the same time?

    I designed a formular which needs to be filled in by different departments of our company. Unfortunatly the DF can be opened by several people at the same time. Is there any way to "lock" the PDF, fot that only one user has access to the formular at the same time, like e.g in MS Word Docs?
    Please help, I coudn´t find a solution myself.

  • I want to run two or more firefox processes under the same user at the same time

    My setup: A laptop running Fedora 20 and Gnome 3. I would really like to have a Firefox window on the laptop screen, and at the same time another one on the VNC client I am running on another computer. Both under the same user account.
    Closing one of the firefox windows is a very poor solution, as I would lose all the tabs I opened, in addition to the hassle.
    Is that possible at all? If yes, how? And if not, can you suggest workarounds?

    You can use the -no-remote command line switch to open another Firefox instance with its own profile and run different Firefox instances simultaneously, but do not use -no-remote to start the default browser with the default profile.
