Airport not connecting computer to internet

my airport express was connecting my computer to the internet fine 2 hours ago, but suddenly, it stopped. i tried connecting my computer directly to the modem, and i am able to connect to the internet, so i'm figuring something is odd w/ the airport (the power light for the airport goes on when you plug it into the wall, so it's not that it completely died). any suggestions?

There are several possibilities:
(1) the "it was a glitch" category. Perhaps your ISP dropped their connection, and it started up again just before you plugged your Mac directly into the modem. Perhaps your ISP reset your connection (yes, they do that sometimes). Perhaps some heavy radio interference started up (a portable phone, microwave oven, neighboring wireless network,...) which knocked off your wireless connection.
(2) a true hardware failure of the Airport Express, or the wireless interface on your Mac.
Connect up your Airport Express again - and confirm it shows a solid green status light (may take a minute). Then see if your Mac "sees" its wireless network. If it does, then try to connect and see what happens. Let us know how this all turns out.

  • Airport not connecting to the internet

Hi guys, i am having trouble with my wireless internet connection. I have been using the same router for over a year and all has been fine. The router itself seems to be ok and the airport is picking up a full signal, however i cannot connect to the internet. I have found that my IP address is different to that of the router (two numbers shorter and one different). Could this be the source of the problem and if so, how would i go about sorting it?
Any input would be greatly appreciated........ thanks.

    grrrrr...
I am having the same problem... At first light was green, great wifi connection but unable to connect to the internet. I've played so much with it, changing DNS, pulling back to previous FW and now just a blinking amber light.
My comcast connection works fine if I manually connect the Ethernet to my laptop. But my macpro is up stairs with a wifi connection!
I thought maybe it was the installation of Parallels, but i've upgraded to tge new version and still the same problem?
Even though I set the connection to DHCP the IP address seems to stay the same 169.254.255.1? Is that right? I did renew but no change.

  • Airport not connecting computer to speakers

a few days ago, i had troubles connecting my computer to my airport express, but after unplugging it for a while and plugging it back in, it began working again.
but, since then, whenever i try and play music through iTunes/airport express (through my stereo amplifier), all that comes out of the speakers is a low hum. any advice?

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference that has been introduced recently in the immediate area that is preventing you from getting a good clean signal.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like MacStumbler or iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference, and then, try to either eliminate or significantly reduce them where possible.

  • My macbook 13 pro is not connecting to the internet even though the airport says it's connected. Can someone help me?

My macbook 13 pro is not connecting to the internet even though the airport says it's connected. Can someone help me? My iphone and other macbook connect and work no problem. What steps can I take?

    Ok....
Now go to your router's settings.  Not sure who makes your router...
Look at wireless part of it and see how many computers are actually hooked up to it.
Delete your computer from it (in your router).
    Restart your router.
After your router has restarted, try to connect to it with your MB and see if you can browse the net.

My laptop compaq presario will not connect to the Internet anymore after buying airport extreme. Why? It detects the network, accepts my password, but will not connect to Internet. I tried to repair connection, tried to reboot modem several times, I even updated my computer. Nothing. All it says is that it does not detect modem. Why?

Welcome to the support community group.
First, are you sure that your AirPort Extreme has been configured correctly and is properly connected to your modem?
Begin by telling us how you have things connected and if the Airport Extreme is replacing a previously owned router or is this an entirely new installation?
First be sure that your modem is working and properly connects you to the internet using an ethernet cable directly connected to your laptop.  Once you're sure that's working, reset the AirPort to factory defaults by disconnecting it from power and pressing and holding in the small reset button on the back  for 15 - 20 seconds while you reconnect it to power.  Then turn everything off for 5 minutes. Connect the Airport to your modem with and ethernet cable to the Airport WAN port on the back (check the user guide to make sure you connect the cable to the correct port) then connect a second ethernet cable between the laptop and one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme.
Then power up the modem first, wait 5 minutes and then power up the Airport, wait 5 minutes and finally power up your laptop.
Then run the airport configuration utility from your laptop.  Since you're not using an Apple computer, be sure that all of your firewall, and virus blocking and checking software is disabled before you run the airport configuration utility.  Once you run the utility, it should detect your AirPort and allow you to use the configuration wizard to set things up.
Check back if you're still having problems.

  • My airport is not connecting to the internet. I have a cable modem. and i'm on the internet now connected directly to the modem. what can i do?

my airport is not connecting to the internet. I have a cable modem. and i'm on the internet now connected directly to the modem. what can i do?

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Airport express second generation do not connect to the internet

Airport express second generation do not connect to the internet. I changed my location and the problem happened . Earlier it was running smoothly. I am not finding the cause of the problem. I switched on and off several times but the problem persists. Please help me.

Are you asking the make/model of the computer or the AX base station?
Neither, I was interested in the make/model of the cable modem.
Our ethernet connection was fried in an electrical storm so we had to go wireless.
Electrical storms are never a good thing when it comes to electronics. What was/is your current network configuration? Is it something like the following?
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > AX > (wireless) > wireless devices
Is there another router, other than the AX, in the configuration? ... or an Ethernet switch? I'm just trying to understand your network to best advise you on how to configure the AX.

  • I want to load Firefox on my computer at home, which is not connected to the internet. I want to download Firefox to my flashdrive and then add it to my computer at home. When I try to download Firefox, it won't let me change the path of where it download

I want to download Firefox on a flashdrive so I can then download it to my home computer which is not connected to the internet. When I download Firefox, it won't let me change the path and so tries to download on a public computer, which isn't allowed. The reason I want it on my home computer is because I'm creating web pages and I want to view my html pages using a variety of browsers, including Firefox.

From another computer, go to http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/, click "Free download" button, click "Save File" button, select your flash drive in "Save as" window. "Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe" file will be saved in your flash drive.
You just need to insert it in your new computer and double-click on "Firefox Setup 3.6.13.exe" from Windows Explorer and follow instructions.

  • My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet".How can I change ip address?

My ipad recognizes my home network but will not connect to the internet. When I click on AirPort/preferences at the top of the imac screen it says..."AirPort has a self-assigned ip address and may not connect to the internet". If this is the root of the problem, how can I change ip address?
Ipad will connect no problem to other networks.

First thing you need I think is to get your iMac connected to the Internet.
Shut down your iMac and you iPad. Then power off your router. Wait 30 seconds and power up the router.
After the router indicates that it is connected to the Internet then start up your iMac and see if it connects. If the iMac connects to the Internet then your iPad should too.
If this power up sequence doesn't work you'll have to dig into the router setup to make sure it is working properly.

  • When I try to access the itunes store I get an error message that my computer is not connected to the internet, even though it is. How do I fix this? Thanks.

For some reason when I open iTunes, and try to access the itunes store, help, my account, or anything else I get a message saying that I'm not connected to the internet, even when I know that I am. What's wrong?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • I receive a not connected to the internet message several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via cable modem.. When I input my password to enter network preferences, the connection re-establishes.

I receive a "not connected to the internet message" several times daily on my iMac connected via airport to a time capsule which accesses the internet via a cable modem. Software/firmware is up to date on the iMac (OSX 10.6.8)  and Tme Capsule(7.5.2). Browser is Safari 5.1.
When I input my password at the prompt to enter network preferences, all the lights go green (ie... ethernet, ISP etc.) and the connection re-establishes immediately and states "the connection appears to be working normally".
It more of a nuisance than anything and seems to have started ocurring over the past couple of months. I also have a windows XP box also connected to the same cable modem that I never have internet connectivity issues with. I've verified all the physical aspects of the connections and can't see any evidence of any actual drops in the modem logs. I suspect it is just an intermittent communication loss between the Imac and the Time Capsule, but I am not very familiar with Mac equipment yet.
Just wondering if anyone has experienced a similar problem and what you did (if anything) to resolve it?
    Thanks.

The AirPort Express will connect to your existing wireless network if the network is using WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal wireless security settings.
So, it can join the network as a client and then provide an Ethernet signal to your Time Capsule.
Be sure to configure the Time Capsule to operate in Bridge Mode so that it will be operating on the same network.

  • My IPad2 will not connect to the internet, "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding."  My AirPort utility shows that I am connected.  What could be the problem?

My iPad2 will not connect to the internet, "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding".  I've run the AirPort utility and it shows that I'm connected to my Wi-Fi.  The connection works with both my iMac and iPhone.  I'm concerned that the problem is with hardware rather than software.

    Try the following:
    1. Turn router off for 30 seconds and on again
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    3. Reset iPad; hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo

  • "You are not connected to the internet"  with a green light on Airport

Using airport extreme with my MacBook, The airport shows a steady green light, but I cannot connect to the internet and my Safari shows "You are not connected to the internet".
I tried getting a direct connection, but didn't work, I will be taking my MacBook to have it checked tomorrow.
I called my ISP, thought had to do with my DSL modem, but it works fine with a direct connection to the PC.
I have my network checked with a check mark beside it.
    Any help?

For future references, I have come to solve my own problem and I'm now on line.
After I reset my DSL modem, I went into my System Preferences, Network, then Sharing.
Clicked on Internet tab, and chose " Share your connection using Airport".
In my Airport Options, I checked the inputs to make sure the settings match.
And viola, I'm online and 2 floors away from my Airport Extreme.
Hope this comes in handy for future users.
I'm still going to get my Ethernet card checked tomorrow.
