Airport not recognizing MacBook

I have an Airport Extreme base station connected to my Windows Vista desktop. They are interacting just fine. But my Mac does not recognize the Base Station (No wireless devices found). The only network I'm able to find is my neighbor's! I've turned both systems off and on, restarted them, but nothing seems to work. I'm getting another Mac from work next week so I'll have two wireless devices that I'm afraid won't be recognized. Ideas?

macnpc6767, Welcome to the discussion area!
Is your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) operating in 802.11n only mode or is operating in an 802.11b/g compatible mode?
Is your PC connecting via 802.11b/g or 802.11n?
Does your Mac have 802.11n capability or only 802.11b/g?
If you are using 802.11b/g, try using a channel between 1 and 11.

  • Apple TV is not recognizing macbook pro

Apple TV is not recognizing macbook pro after it has been authorized and home sharing as been turned on; Airplay is also turned on.  I had a 7 year old macbook from which I transferred data successfully to the new macbook pro.  The old laptop has been de-authorized and the new laptop has been given a new name.  The apple TV recognizes the new name but continues to say: “unable to connect with new macbook.”

Yes, we've had the airplay turned on so we can mirror the computer on the TV.  Nothing else to it then?  That will work for us.
    Thanks.

Hello I have been having a problem when my imac goes to sleep and I try to connect to web through airport it gives error airport not recognized. If I shut down completly and restart it will connect just fine. Anyone have a fix for this?

Hi, this has worked for a few...
Though all of these steps may or may not be needed, I'm including them all.
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    10.4 instructions...
Is that Interface dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

  • Airport Not Recognized even after hardware test

Out of the blue my airport card is no longer recognized by my computer. I reseated the card with no success. I then took the computer into my local apple store and had them run some tests. I don't remember the name of the software program used but the Apple Genious tested all of my hardware to make sure it was ok. The Airport Card tested fine. So he thought that maybe there was a software problem. I reinstalled OSX and reseated my card again and still no luck. Any thoughts? Lastly, how do I force my computer to relook for new hardware on startup. What keys do you hold down? I would like to see if I can force the computer to look for new hardware after I try reseating one more time?

My powerbook also out of the blue is not recognizing my airport card. I've reseated, repaired permissions, reset PRAM, PMU, tried a brand new airport card, and nothing works. If anyone has a solution I would be insanely grateful.

  • Airport not recognizing network signal

I often go to a friend's house and take my computer with me. recently my computer is not recognizing the network signal from the router. I can connect to to the internet with an ethernet cable, but there is no WiFi signal. The router IS sending WiFi signal but it does not show on Airport at all.
I have tried reseting the router and everything but no luck.
    Any ideas????
    Thank you.

Your problem is common under Snow. I give some solutions that have worked for others below. Consider carefully which you want to try, if any. These solutions worked at the users main locations. If you use them and then have problems at "home," then no joy.
Adding a new location has worked for some.
Go System Preferences > Network > Location.
Edit location (whatever name you want).
Click + and then click done.
    Try your browser.
And, here is another possibility that has worked for others (basically suggested by Carolyn).
Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop.
    Restart.
    Try your browser.
Try something a little different on the above theme.
Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop.
Go System Preferences > Network > Delete all locations, and use Automatic.
    Restart.
    Try your browser.
You may have to reconnect to your wireless network if applicable. And, you may need to go System Preferences > Sharing and re-enter your computer's name. Check what name is given in sharing before following my instructions. If problems develop, then your can move the original folder back where it started—overwriting any folder recreated.
    Work with Keychain
Start Keychain Access. Delete any entries related to wireless networking/connecting to the internet.

  • AirPort not recognizing network

I have a wireless network set up in my house (A PC and Linksys router - WRT54GS. The PC is connected directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. I installed the Linksys router for my Mac) I purchased an Airport card for my G5 and AirPort is installed and recognized by my Mac. My network in the house is up and running. But when using my Network settings to try to connect, I'm unable to--it's simply not picking up the network. In the Internet Connect box I've chosen AirPort, and (because the network does not appear in the drop down menu), chosen "other," typed in the network name, security type, and password. I receive the following notice: "There was an error joing the Airport network." Any thoughts on what to do? (I'm new to wireless networks. Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious.)

Which G5 do you have? The early G5s shipped with an external AirPort antenna which is required.
See "PowerMac G5 wireless problem? Check this..."
The later G5s are not compatible with the AirPort Extreme card and require a special board. See KB 302721, Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) AirPort and Bluetooth options.

  • IMac G3 w/Airport not recognizing my Express Network

    Seeking assistance,
Have a G5 and a G3 accessing the Internet via an Express Base Station. Was working great to this afternoon. After hours of troubleshooting, including 2 hrs on the support line, still no joy. As outlined above, it worked fine for awhile, the G5 has no problem automatically connecting to the network. The G3 though wont even see it. I am running Airport Express 4.2 on both machines with OS 10.4.2 on both as well. Firmware on the Base Station is 6.2.
Is this an AE problem on the Airport Card in the G3. Checked the connection 3 times and it looks fine. Never mind that it was working?
ISP says everything looks fine from their end as well....
    Stumped.....

    Sofia,
I wouldn't take that airport card back just yet. You are definitely not the only one with this problem. I have two iBook G3's that are also doing the same thing, except I am connecting through a netgear router, but this has worked before. Just out of curiosity, when you turn the airport card on sometimes, or when the computer boots up, does the computer seem to lock up, or slow down? If this does happen, if you open a terminal and type "top" it should list the process "SystemUISe" as using almost 100% of the CPU cycles.
I've attempted to kill the process by doing a "sudo kill PID", but that hadn't worked either. I'm at a loss. The airport card, when I do successfully get it turned on (success seems very random), I still am unable to connect, even when I turn off all security settings on my AP.
I know it's not the hardware because I'm also running Gentoo Linux on my iBook and the card works great!
I really wish someone would help us out, we can't be the only people with this problem.

  • Airport-- not recognizing networks

I have a home Wifi network. Recently, Airport is unable to recognize it as a preferred network. Everytime I turn on my PB, a window pops up and says non of my preferred networks are available, but my home network is there. In sys prefs, it's also listed under the preferred network list. I haven't changed anything on my base station. It's a pain having to select my network every time.
    Any advice?

This won't help much, but at least help narrowing on the issue:
-> I've got the same problem on my Tiger PowerBook forever. It's linked to my account as I didn't have this issue with other accounts. I did everything possible fiddling with the Keychain and plists of preferred netowrk ... to no avail.
-> To my pleasure: No issue today with my 3 months old MacBook Pro with Leopard.
    Rgds,
    Thierry

  • Airport not recognized

I just put in an airport card in my clamshell. Computer won't recognize card, it does not come up as a configuration option and says "power off" . Card itself seems fine and works on wife's computer. Wife's card worked fine on my clamshell but no longer. (by the way - took laptop apart to replace hard drive).
    Thanks for all suggestions.

lohidoc, Welcome to the discussion area!
Try resetting the open firmware. The process is:
Start up into Open Firmware by pressing and holding the Command-Option-O-F key combination during startup.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-nvram
    Press Return.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type: reset-all
    Press Return.
If that doesn't cure the problem, either the iBook's motherboard is failing or the card is installed incorrectly.

  • Airport not "recognizing" network - blinking amber light

I just got a new Airport Express. I plugged it in hooked up the ethernet cable to it and all I get is the blinking amber light.
I thought it might need the Cable modem restarted so I did that. Nothing.
I thought it might be an issue with my Vonage adapter. I rebooted that. Nothing.
I bypassed the Vonage completely by directly going from cable modem to Airport Express. Nothing.
I've tried everything but it isn't working.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.33mHz 14.1" 768ram 60gb HD

Any time when you reset you have to do it in a specific order to make it work correctly.
The normal reset sequence is to Pull the power adapter from the ISP's Modem and then your Airport Express or Extreme and shut your computer clear off.and next you wait for everything to reset to default settings. (Normally 5 minutes). After your wait you have to plug in the Modem first, wait until it re acquires the signal and all the lights (normally 3) depending on the modem you have. Next Plug in your express or Extreme and again you have to wait a minute and then you can restart your computer.
Be sure before you start the sequence you have the correct setting in System preferences and Network to Airport. and drag it to the top of the list and it has to be highlighted with the little green dot,and be sure you go up to the icon next to your HELP for signal strength and make sure your Airport is ON.
And last welcome to the discussions
    Cheers Don

  • New Apple TV update & now not recognizing MacBook Air, all devices have home sharing ON.

This is getting ridiculous. I wanted to simply shoot my favorite playlist through to my TV & surround sound when a few friends stopped by. I went to turn it on using my Apple TV and wham, and had to install an update. There went 1/2 hour of waiting. Then finally done, and, nope....**** thing doesn't recognize the macbook air, or my iPhone, or my iPad. ALL have home sharing ON, including Apple TV, all are connected to the netwoork. But nope. I finally gave up after an hour of restarting all & trying to troubleshoot, find help online, but I had to get back to my guests.
These electronics are taking WAAAY too much time to update, diagnose, troubleshoot, ..... we do nothing anymore but sit on the computer.
Anyone have ANY idea how to fix this? Oh, wait, maybe I should kill two hours at a Genius Bar? Yeah, that would have been great: hey, wait a couple of hours everyone while I try to schedule an appt and get to the genisu bar so we can listen to music.

    Did you restart your router.

  • Why isn't my macbook pro 10.6.7 not recognizing my network automatically?

My macbook pro 10.6.7 is not recognizing my home network automatically and instead sings me on to another network when I open my mac. How can I correct this? it wasn't doing this before.
    thank you.

    Matrix
In system prefs you can go to network, you will see airport listed, go to the advanced setting and make sure remember networks you have joined is checked. You can also remove networks you do not want your Mac to join. You can also check to automatically find networks. As well, you can reconfigure your network by choosing the assist me option.

  • IPhone 4S not recognizing my Airport Extreme

My new iPhone 4S is not recognizing my Airport Extreme while my iPad2, Macbook, Mac desktop and Apple TV all are able to see and successfully utilize my network. My iPhone 4s is able to see other networks and successfully connect with them, but just not the network associated with my Airport Extreme.  Can anybody help me fix this problem?

Im having exactly the same problem.
Every laptop in the house and my ipad will conenct to my airport, but my iphone doesnt... in fact my iphone wont conenct even to another router in the house. Outside, on my work network, it works fine.
It displays the phones client number in the airport utility, but no data is transfered nor does it ever connect - just the scrolling circle continuously.
Reset the router, restored my iphone. I've done everything...
Anyone? Its doing my head in.

  • Macbook Leopard Update- Hard drive not recognized?!?!

Question- What do you think caused this problem, and how can I best fix it?
    (See below for information)
Well, I finally decided to update to Leopard. I put the disk in my Macbook, and everything went smoothly as it verified the installation DVD- until the end of the verification, that is. A message screen would pop up telling me the disk was dirty. "Okay," I thought,"No problem." I was a bit puzzled, though, because the installation with the same Family Pack disk went fine on my father's Mac. I cleaned the disk, and tried again. And again. Each time, I was greeted with the same message at the end of the verification. Frustrated, I took the disk and my laptop to Best Buy, hoping someone could help me there. We ran the installation again... to no surprise, the same problem occurs. This time, though, when we quit the installer and try to reboot, after the gray screen with the apple at the beginning, we are greeted with a black screen with one command line. NOT GOOD! We rebooted the computer again, this time starting up with a disk to check the permissions and hard drive. The diagnosis: The permissions on my Mac are screwed up, so it's not recognizing the hard drive. The Best Buy guy claims the permissions have been messed up since I bought the Mac, and everything will be just fine and dandy after I transfer the data to another computer, install the Tiger disk that my Macbook came with, update to Leopard, then transfer the data back to my Mac. I'm taking my Mac to the closest Apple store (about 2 hours away) for advice from the pros on Saturday. Until then, I'm hesitant to even turn the thing on, out of fear it will spontaneously erase the data or something to that extent.
Question: (in case you forgot)What do you think caused this problem, and how can I best fix it?

    Unplugging worked!!!
I have no idea what PRAM is but someone said that unplugging your computer resets it so, I thought I'd give unplugging a shot. So, I shut down my computer and unplugged it. I also unplugged the power on the HD. (because I wasn't sure which one they were talking about.)
Anyway, I went away for about five minutes.
I came back plugged in the HD power first. Then, I plugged in the power cord for the computer and turned it on.
As soon as I logged in I was asked if I wanted to use my external HD for Time Machine backups.
I saw the icon for the HD on the Desktop where is belongs. I can open the drive and access the files with no problem.
Try this if you haven't yet.

  • My new HDD for Macbook pro 13" unibody is not recognized and I am using a new SATA cable

    Hey everyone,
I have a particular problem that I cannot seem to find an answer to.  My new 500gb internal drive for my Macbook Pro 13" unibody is not recognized.  The old HDD broke on me so I bought a new one but my macbook pro would not recognize it.  To troubleshoot that issue I purchased the SATA cable and replaced the old with the new.  The new HDD still will not show up in disk utility.
Please let me know what you think I may have missed or should do.
    Thank you

    jc1388,
Bring it to an Apple store Genius bar (make an appointment, so you don,t have to wait around forever) they will diagnose it for free and tell you your options/pricing. They have more extensive testing tools, maybe your logic board is failing/failed.
    best of luck
