Airport Not Seeing Any Networks

*After waking the PowerBook from overnight Sleep mode this morning, my Airport isn't working. No reception of mine or any other WiFi networks in my building (there are typically 4 or 5 of my neighbors' wireless networks displayed when I check using Internet Connection). After numerous re-starts, forced re-starts, re-boots and Disk Utility passes, nothing. I re-set my Airport Express, nothing. I re-seated my internal Airport card and checked the antenna connector, still nothing. Do Airport cards eventually just quit working? Anyone here have any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Jd*

*Back from the Apple Store and a meeting with a very competent genius. The card works and I was able to access the Internet there. Returned home and I was very optimistic and ready to get back to normal. I restarted the computer and had the same problem, not seeing ANY WiFi networks, including my Airport Express or any of my neighbors' networks. I took the computer to another building in my complex and was able to join onto one of the WiFi networks there, so that tells me that there may be outside influences at work here. I have just re-installed OSX to make a clean start to see if that would make a difference, again nothing. My next move is to check with one of my neighbors to see if they are having the same problem. Otherwise, it's very strange and I'm stumped. I'm open to any other ideas and suggestions, if anyone here has any. Thanks, JD*

  • Airport not detecting any Networks

I was working fine yesterday with my macbook late 2008 aluminum unibody. Then I left the laptop for a while to have some lunch. When I went back to my mac it hanged so I forced quit some applications then did a hard shutdown. After which my Airport cannot find any network. I did a hardware test... all is okay (does this also test the airport card?). I also tried to manually input the SSID and the WEP Password (13 Characters) where I get an error of Connection timed out.
    Can anybody help me?

    Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities
Once in Disk Utilities select your drive in the left window. Then from the right window select First Aid (First Aid will be selected by default).
    Verify Disk:
In the "First Aid" window towards the bottom, select Verify Disk. If "Verify" comes back reporting errors, then post back here as we will have to give you further instructions on booting from your install disk.
Also at the bottom note the S.M.A.R.T status, it should read "Verified"
    Repair Permissions:
In the "First Aid" window towards the bottom select "Repair Disk Permissions"

  • Airport can not see any network

    Hi.
I am struggling with airport on my macbook. There are many wifi newtorks around me, my iphone can see them all, but all of the sudden, for the second day my macbook cant see any of them. I already tried everything, however nothing works any ideas?

    Hi,
try to repair your mac os x. Put in the mac os x dvd, and hold down the "c" key before you start your macbook.
Utilities > Disk Utility. Repair Volume and after that repair permissions.

  • IPad 2 not seeing any networks

    Hi,
My iPad 2 recently stopped seeing any available networks.  At the time it happened, I was running iOS 7.  When I try to look for available networks, none come up.  When I search for my network by name, I get a message saying it could not find it.  I have two MacBook Airs, two iPhones, and an iPad mini that are all seeing my network (and a few of my neighbors' as well) and having no issues connecting.
My first step to try and fix this was to reset the network settings.  No dice.  Then I tried updating to iOS 8.1.1.  No dice again.  I've also backed up and reset the iPad to factory settings.  Still nothing.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?  I'm worried it is a hardware issue and my WiFi might be fried.
    Thanks for any insight.

    Try the following:
    1. Turn router off for 30 seconds and on again
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    3. Reset iPad; hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo

  • XP not seeing any network cards

I have XP running through Bootcamp but am not able to see a network card. I do not seem to be able to find any drivers to use. Any suggestions?

    Stefan,
thanks for your response......... not looking for excuses but.... I am new to this 'Mac World' and I did not think for one minute that the OSX DVD would have anything to do with MS Windows once it was up and running!!!!!!
Unfortunately I'm away from my Leopard disk until tuesday but it sounds like my problem will be solved.....
    Thanks very much,

  • G5 imac not seeing any networks

    Hi -
I just installed an Airport Extreme card in my 20" 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 and it's not seeing anything. Not my home Airport Express network and none of the other networks that abound on my block.
The computer itself recognizes the card, it just has nothing to do at this point.
Searching on old posts here, people have mentioned a Power G5 problem, but the info is kind of old and so far I haven't gotten the scoop yet on what might be wrong.

...Thinking that the antenna is not properly installed. Will try again...

Settings>WiFi>Other. Enter your network name and password.
Have you tried .... Settings>WiFi>Tap your network name>Tap the blue arrow on the right>Forget this network. Restart your iPad then go back to the WiFi settings and try again?

  • Airport Extreme card does not see any networks...help!

I have a home network that is working fine - 2 linksys routers with WDS set up... it all works great - an Ibook g4 running 10.3 and has an Airport Extreme card connects flawlessly everyday. As does an old G4 powerbook with an old airport card.
however, I have this dual g4 with 10.4.3 running, and a recently-installed airport extreme card.
When I turn airport "on" it never sees our network. And it doesn't see my neighbors' networks, either, which are also always visible.
I can, howevr, connect via ethernet to the router that is somewhat nearby. that networking is fine...I can get on wired, but not wirelessly.
I've installed the 2005-1 update, and have run Software Update as well to see if there are any other patches/updates necesary. so as far as I can tell, I am up to date.
    system profiler says:
    Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 404.2 (3.90.34.0.p16)
Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available
and in the extensions section for the airport, it says:
    Version: 4.0.4
    Last Modified: 11/20/05 9:55 AM
Get Info String: 4.0.4, Copyright © 2002 - 2005 Apple Computer, Inc., All Rights Reserved
    Location: /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAirPort2.kext

    Load Address: 0x39738000
    Valid: Yes
    Authentic: Yes
    Dependencies: Satisfied
    Integrity: Correct
I am at a loss. Is there anything else I can do before writing off the card as a bad card - or perhaps the logic board is faulty?
I hope there is a simple solution to this. I appreciate your expert help.

Go back and recheck the Airport Extreme card installation. Make sure you plugged the connector for the internal Airport antenna into its socket on the Airport Extreme card itself - and make sure the plug is fully seated into its socket (none of the metal sleave should be showing).

  • AirPort Not Seeing Networks

The writing's on the wall but I'll put up a post as one last ditch effort.
I took in a PowerBook 15" 1.5 GHz. First thing I did was do an Archive and Install of OS X 10.4. With the first boot the AirPort wasn't seeing nearby networks. I then exhausted all available Software Updates and repaired permissions.
It still wouldn't see nearby networks.
System Profiler sees the card. I can turn it off and on as much as I like.
System Preferences/Network lets me rearrange the order to place it at the top of the list. It won't let me delete the interface unless I rename it, add a new interface called AirPort, then delete the original.
I then tried reseating the card and antenna.
Next, I tried booting an OS X 10.5 install disk and tried to join the nearby networks that way. Still no success.
Next, I tried to swap the card with another from a known working unit. Still no success.
Along the way, I also tried reapplying the 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC, even though it was part of the first round of updates that came through on Software Update.
Any thoughts other than the probability that the motherboard is malfunctioning?

  • IBook G4 Airport Extreme does not see any SSID

    Hi,
My iBook 1,2 Ghz has been working great for several years now.
I am working with Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) for quite some time
and it never let me down. I connect to the internet using an Airport Express
    connected to a speedtouch router.
The Airport Express Card in my iBook always found 6 or 7 SSID's of other
Wireless Networks in my neighbourhood and it used to login automatically on
my Airport Express wireless wetwork station.
Last week it suddenly stopped working correctly.
After starting OS X on my laptop the little Airport icon in the upper bar faded out grey.
When I click it it says it can't find any networks.
I checked all my settings, downgraded my Airport Extensions
and even installed a spare (refurbished) Airport Extreme Card.
Even with another Airport Extreme Card it does not see any wireless networks.
My other macs, a unibody MacBook Pro and white MacBook work fine with the Airport Express.
What could be wrong? Am I overlooking something here? Can somebody help me out?
How can i get my Airport Express/iBook G4 connected to my wireless network again?

    Hi Elko,
    Thanks for the reply.
I re-installed the original Airport Extreme card into the slot again.
But now i pushed it harder than the first time. (just like you said)
I noticed the second click, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
Both Airport Cards (the original and the new) were installed correctly.
I also checked the antenna connection but that is seated o.k. too.
After re-installing the card, i booted into Mac OS X Tiger and checked the ASP.
It says a Airport Extreme Card is installed with firmware version 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p.18)
and the langauge version is international/worldwide. So far, so good.
Nevertheless the airport card does still not find any wireless networks or SSID's after
scanning multiple times. (Location on automatic)
I am planning an upgrade to Leopard today. Maybe that's gonna help, since there were some Airport Extreme updates in Leopard. If that's not the solution, I will stay with your other suggestion and buy me a nice USB dongle.
Do you have any idea what type of dongles work best with Leopard? I have seen some different models, but a lot of dongles require third-party software to make it work and are not automatically recognized by OS X.

  • Airport does not recognize any networks, no signal whatsoever, SOMEONE HELP

Hello, I use an iBook at the office, i have been using it for several months here and at home, worked fine until yesterday, logged on in the morning everything was working fine, until airport had no signal, it did not recognize any networks, at first i thought it was a problem here at the office, all the other computers are working.
I tried it at home and it doesn´t recognize anything at all.
The network status says that airport is turned on but it is not connected to any network.
It`s clearly a problem with my computer, not the network, can anyone help?
    Regards
    Rodrigo

Rod1, Welcome to the discussion area!
Verify that the antenna wire is still properly connected to the AirPort card. It may have come loose.
If you have an iBook G4 you can use the photos in KB 108039, Properly attaching the antenna on an AirPort Extreme Card to verify that the antenna wire is still properly connected to the AirPort Extreme card.

If no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem with the wireless card or with something else.

  • Satelite A30 does not see any other network devices in WLan

I recently bought a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, i've installed it and managed to get it to recognise my broadband but it does not see any other network devices. I was not supplied with any drivers or software to operate the card (I bought it from a proper dealer). Can you recommend downloads that would run this card?
    I have a Satelite A30 laptop 1gb ram 60GB HDD.
Also large files sometimes stop transfering (hangs)when using my USB connection. The usb controller is using microsoft driver 5.1.2600.0 dated 1 june 2002.
    Is this a driver problem?

    Hi
If the WLan card is properly installed so you have only not configured you settings.
I dont know which devices in the broadband you mean but usually if you want to communicate or transfer files between notebooks through the WLan so all computers must be in the same domain or workgroup.
I cannot give you a proper answer but only a suggestion. I have red that sometimes a lower power could be responsible for such issue. Try to disable the option Power safe in the USB root hub properties in the device manager.

  • Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Plz advise.

Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.

If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.
    Post back on your results.

  • Wirelss drops out - can no longer see any networks

Hi all, I have searched for other threads with similar problems but I could not find one exactly like mine.
Recently I have had problems where I have been surfing on firefox, and then all of a sudden it has automatically switched to "Work Offline". I then check my airport status and it is not connected to my network. When I turn airport off, and then on again, it then cannot see any network at all. I have to restart my computer.
    Any ideas?

You might try resetting your connection settings using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.
