Airport not selecting network automaticly

Hello all,
I wonder if any of you guys can tell me why my imac wont hock-up with my airport express automaticly.
this is a new thing, it used to connect to it no problem, but i think since one of the last updates, i have had to manually connect it to my home network.
i have tried to make sure the settings are correct and all that, but

If the issue pops up again you might also look at this;

  • Strange case of airport not detecting network

The airport menu often fails to show networks that are definitely being detected by the airport card - they show up strong and clear with stumblers - but I can't join the network either with the menu or the join network dialog. This can happen on networks that are very close to the computer - like three feet away - so not a signal strength issue. I often have to wait minutes for the machine to finally "see" my own airport. Curiously, it happens on three different networks, so I don't think it is just a problem with my own airport. Two networks are apple airports, the other a Linksys. I tried removing one of them from preferred network list, but that did not help.
Anyone any suggestions for resolving such a weird problem?

  • Networked computer will not join network automatically after restart/sleep

    Situation:
I've got two computers - PowerBook 17" 1,25 GHz, iMac 2,16 GHz 24", both running OS X 10.4.8. They are networked via AirPort Express, firmware v. 6.3, in a WPA protected network. The AirPort distributes ADSL 4 Mbps connection.
Computers are set as DHCP with manual address (to keep stable LAN address)
The problem: While the PowerBook always joins the network after restart/sleep automatically, iMac in such a situation never goes online - the airport status in menu bar is on, the network is checked, but it cannot connect or be reached.
I always have to manually turn airport of from menu bar, then turn it on, then wait about 20 seconds and then manually choose name of my network.
After this procedure iMac is finally online.
    Settings of the AirPort are:
    AirPort tab
    Wireless Security: WPA2 personal
    Channel: Automatic
    Mode: 802/11 g/b
    Internet tab
    Connecting using: Ethernet
    Configure: Using DHCP
    WAN ethernet port: Automatic
    Network tab
Distribute IP address unchecked (no difference when checked - tested)
Any idea how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks a bunch, Duane!
You pointed me to the exact answer.
iMac joins the network automatically now, although I had to change original automatic login of an admin user to manual login page, because after automatic login as one of three users, an error message "Network error" appeared quicker than the actual joining the network, that came a few seconds later.
After manual logging (it probably needed a little more time) it's OK.
Thanks again and greeting from Czech Republic!

  • Airport creates a network automatically on startup

    Hello everyone!
I've created a network before on my Mac and shared the internet connection with it. Now, even though I close the network, it keeps coming back automatically after rebooting and returning from sleep mode. That's not something I'd like happening.
Anyone got any idea how to disable this automatic network creation? The operating system is Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Airport version is AirPort Extreme  (0x14E4, 0x88).
Thanks in advance for possible answers!

Turning Internet sharing off seems to prevent the network creation at least when returning from sleep mode.
The first ever Internet sharing network I created on this Mac had no password. It is that network which keeps coming back even if I have turned Airport off.
For example if I create a new network with a password and share the Internet connection with it, then go to sleep mode and return from it, the old passwordless network is back in action. Makes no sense.

  • Airport not recognizing network signal

I often go to a friend's house and take my computer with me. recently my computer is not recognizing the network signal from the router. I can connect to to the internet with an ethernet cable, but there is no WiFi signal. The router IS sending WiFi signal but it does not show on Airport at all.
I have tried reseting the router and everything but no luck.
    Any ideas????
    Thank you.

Your problem is common under Snow. I give some solutions that have worked for others below. Consider carefully which you want to try, if any. These solutions worked at the users main locations. If you use them and then have problems at "home," then no joy.
Adding a new location has worked for some.
Go System Preferences > Network > Location.
Edit location (whatever name you want).
Click + and then click done.
    Try your browser.
And, here is another possibility that has worked for others (basically suggested by Carolyn).
Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop.
    Restart.
    Try your browser.
Try something a little different on the above theme.
Go Finder > Your HD > Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration.
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to your Desktop.
Go System Preferences > Network > Delete all locations, and use Automatic.
    Restart.
    Try your browser.
You may have to reconnect to your wireless network if applicable. And, you may need to go System Preferences > Sharing and re-enter your computer's name. Check what name is given in sharing before following my instructions. If problems develop, then your can move the original folder back where it started—overwriting any folder recreated.
    Work with Keychain
Start Keychain Access. Delete any entries related to wireless networking/connecting to the internet.

  • AirPort Not Seeing Networks

The writing's on the wall but I'll put up a post as one last ditch effort.
I took in a PowerBook 15" 1.5 GHz. First thing I did was do an Archive and Install of OS X 10.4. With the first boot the AirPort wasn't seeing nearby networks. I then exhausted all available Software Updates and repaired permissions.
It still wouldn't see nearby networks.
System Profiler sees the card. I can turn it off and on as much as I like.
System Preferences/Network lets me rearrange the order to place it at the top of the list. It won't let me delete the interface unless I rename it, add a new interface called AirPort, then delete the original.
I then tried reseating the card and antenna.
Next, I tried booting an OS X 10.5 install disk and tried to join the nearby networks that way. Still no success.
Next, I tried to swap the card with another from a known working unit. Still no success.
Along the way, I also tried reapplying the 10.4.11 Combo Updater for PPC, even though it was part of the first round of updates that came through on Software Update.
Any thoughts other than the probability that the motherboard is malfunctioning?

*Back from the Apple Store and a meeting with a very competent genius. The card works and I was able to access the Internet there. Returned home and I was very optimistic and ready to get back to normal. I restarted the computer and had the same problem, not seeing ANY WiFi networks, including my Airport Express or any of my neighbors' networks. I took the computer to another building in my complex and was able to join onto one of the WiFi networks there, so that tells me that there may be outside influences at work here. I have just re-installed OSX to make a clean start to see if that would make a difference, again nothing. My next move is to check with one of my neighbors to see if they are having the same problem. Otherwise, it's very strange and I'm stumped. I'm open to any other ideas and suggestions, if anyone here has any. Thanks, JD*

  • Airport-- not recognizing networks

I have a home Wifi network. Recently, Airport is unable to recognize it as a preferred network. Everytime I turn on my PB, a window pops up and says non of my preferred networks are available, but my home network is there. In sys prefs, it's also listed under the preferred network list. I haven't changed anything on my base station. It's a pain having to select my network every time.
    Any advice?

This won't help much, but at least help narrowing on the issue:
-> I've got the same problem on my Tiger PowerBook forever. It's linked to my account as I didn't have this issue with other accounts. I did everything possible fiddling with the Keychain and plists of preferred netowrk ... to no avail.
-> To my pleasure: No issue today with my 3 months old MacBook Pro with Leopard.

  • AirPort not recognizing network

I have a wireless network set up in my house (A PC and Linksys router - WRT54GS. The PC is connected directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. I installed the Linksys router for my Mac) I purchased an Airport card for my G5 and AirPort is installed and recognized by my Mac. My network in the house is up and running. But when using my Network settings to try to connect, I'm unable to--it's simply not picking up the network. In the Internet Connect box I've chosen AirPort, and (because the network does not appear in the drop down menu), chosen "other," typed in the network name, security type, and password. I receive the following notice: "There was an error joing the Airport network." Any thoughts on what to do? (I'm new to wireless networks. Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious.)

Which G5 do you have? The early G5s shipped with an external AirPort antenna which is required.
See "PowerMac G5 wireless problem? Check this..."
The later G5s are not compatible with the AirPort Extreme card and require a special board. See KB 302721, Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) AirPort and Bluetooth options.

  • Airport not detecting networks

I am trying to find my LAN with my MacPro but it is not able to find them. I was online last night using Aiport (at a slow speed, but still using it).
Right now I am using a PC Laptop that is finding and connecting to any WLAN available.
I have tried to shutdown, restart, turn off airport but nothing remedys the problem.
    What can I do?

    Hi,
I had the same problem with my old Airport base station (graphite model). Very hard to connect to it, after turning my MacBook on or after waking up from sleep mode.
All problems disappeared when I started using an Airport Express access point and unplug the old (apparently the fact that it was in range still caused problems).
I take it the more recent wifi cards such as the one in the MacBook's don't handle the quite old Airport too well.
    Cheers,
    Bas.

  • Airport not "recognizing" network - blinking amber light

I just got a new Airport Express. I plugged it in hooked up the ethernet cable to it and all I get is the blinking amber light.
I thought it might need the Cable modem restarted so I did that. Nothing.
I thought it might be an issue with my Vonage adapter. I rebooted that. Nothing.
I bypassed the Vonage completely by directly going from cable modem to Airport Express. Nothing.
I've tried everything but it isn't working.
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.33mHz 14.1" 768ram 60gb HD

Any time when you reset you have to do it in a specific order to make it work correctly.
The normal reset sequence is to Pull the power adapter from the ISP's Modem and then your Airport Express or Extreme and shut your computer clear off.and next you wait for everything to reset to default settings. (Normally 5 minutes). After your wait you have to plug in the Modem first, wait until it re acquires the signal and all the lights (normally 3) depending on the modem you have. Next Plug in your express or Extreme and again you have to wait a minute and then you can restart your computer.
Be sure before you start the sequence you have the correct setting in System preferences and Network to Airport. and drag it to the top of the list and it has to be highlighted with the little green dot,and be sure you go up to the icon next to your HELP for signal strength and make sure your Airport is ON.
And last welcome to the discussions
    Cheers Don

  • Superseding Application Installed when NOT deployed and NOT set to Automatically Upgrade

    SCCM 2012 SP1
I have an application of Adobe Reader X which is deployed as "available" to the "All Workstations" collection.  (It is also installed as part of our OSD task sequence for all workstations, if that matters.)
Some months ago I packaged Adobe Reader XI and did NOT set it to supersede Adobe Reader X.  It was deployed as available to a small user collection.
Flash forward to yesterday.  I wanted Reader XI to be available to all IS staff, but not to automatically install for any of them or to automatically replace existing Reader X installs for anyone.   I went into my existing Adobe Reader XI application
and set it to supersede the Adobe Reader X deployment type.  I then deployed Adobe Reader XI as "Available" to my "IS Staff" user collection and did NOT select the "Automatically upgrade any superseded versions of this application."
Overnight, all existing installs of Adobe Reader X were replaced by Adobe Reader XI on all workstations that were powered on during the maintenance window.  I was understandably surprised and double-checked my deployment settings.  It *is* deployed
as "available" to all IS staff and to the pre-existing user collection.  and verified that I do not have Adobe Reader XI deployed to ANY other collections other than the original small user collection and now to my IS Staff collection, both
    as "Available".
I checked APPINTENTEVAL.log on some of the affected workstations and noted that once I had created the supersedence relationship, all workstations that I've checked started logging as "Applicability = Applicable" and as soon as the maintenance window
    started, they installed.
I'm very confused.  I've used Application Supersedence many times, and it has never applied to a collection to which the superseding application was not deployed.  Can anyone suggest a mechanism I might have missed that made this app evaluate as
applicable on every workstation that had Reader X deployed to it?  I'm confident that it should have have.

Is Reader XI used in a (OSD) task sequence?

  • Since update, Airport Express not selectable...anyone else?

I can't check the box in the "Multiple Speakers" window. I went into Preferences and ensured that the "Look for other speakers" box was checked, and it is. What the hay? Ticks me off, that thing cost me a bundle new, and now I can't use it, why?

Ah. Odd that this is already in the Help menu....they knew it was going to happen, so they already had it in the Help menu?? Hmmm... Anyway, I hope this helps someone like me.
iTunes 7 for Mac: AirTunes won't connect to remote speakers
    Symptom
When using iTunes 7.0 for Mac, some users may not be able to connect to remote speakers using an Airport Express base station. In this case, the remote speakers would be visible in iTunes 7.0, but iTunes would timeout while trying to connect and the speaker menu would return to Computer.
    Products affected
    iTunes 7.0 for Mac
    Airport Express base station
    Solution
To resolve this issue, IPv6 needs to be enabled for the network interface you are using to connect to the Airport Express base station. Follow the steps below to enable IPv6:
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Network.
From the Show pop-up menu, choose the network interface used to connect to the Airport Express Base Station (typically the network interface used is Airport).
    Select the TCP/IP tab.
    Click the Configure IPv6 button.
From the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu, choose Automatically.
Click Ok and then click Apply Now.
Reconnect to remote speakers in iTunes 7.

  • Airport Express, hidden network, no automatic connection

    Howdy,
I now have received my 24" for 3 hours
    Happy camper here
I have one issue which I can't figure out.
Its about connecting automatically to my Wifi Network.
I have two wifi networks, one Airport Express and one 'other brand'.
Both with hidden SSID and WPA paswords.
Now when I connect manually to these networks, all goes OK.
Then I have created a profile under system preferences /network:
    Under the Airport tab:
    By default, join: 'Preferred Networks'
After which I have added the two networks with network name and password.
    under network ports tab:
I have switched of ethernet and moved airport all the way up.
    What I can't figure out:
When I re-boot, it does not automatically connect to any of these networks. I have to do it manually always.
I have tried using the set-up assitant, but it gives me a bad-password error (while I am 200% sure its correct) probably cause I can not select the authentication method.
    Any ideas ?
    B

I gave up and haven't bothered.
MAC addressing and Password should be enough.

  • Airport doesn´t connect automatically to Network with Zyxel

I am the proud owner of a new iMac Intel core duo 2,83Ghz since last wendsday. When I start the computer, Airport doesn´t connect automatically to my Home Network!! I checked all the settings - even them on the Router - severell times!! I use a Zyxell P-335WT Router. Fact is that allready had a Intel core duo based iMac. The automatically connection worked without any problem!!
Yesterday i phoned 1,5 hours with apple support - they couldn´t find the problem.
Has anybody an idea?? Last option is to put a new firmware on the router, and make new settings.

Same thing here. I have a belkin f5d7230 router. Wirelessly, my pc connects and stays connected, my old G4 with a reaktek wireless card connects and stays connected, and my new macbook pro connects and stays connected.
On my new iMac (purchased 3 weeks ago) airport extreme connects at start up and stays connected until the computer goes in a low power state or the screen saver goes on. then the connection drops. I have to click the little wireless "fan" graphic in the bar and select my network to connect again. This is CLEARLY an issue with this computer PERIOD. Apple needs to fix it one way or another preferably with a firmware update or something... I'm not interested in dragging this down to the apple store to have it sit there for a week.

  • Why isn't my macbook pro 10.6.7 not recognizing my network automatically?

My macbook pro 10.6.7 is not recognizing my home network automatically and instead sings me on to another network when I open my mac. How can I correct this? it wasn't doing this before.
    thank you.

    Matrix
In system prefs you can go to network, you will see airport listed, go to the advanced setting and make sure remember networks you have joined is checked. You can also remove networks you do not want your Mac to join. You can also check to automatically find networks. As well, you can reconfigure your network by choosing the assist me option.
