Airport on computer does not see any wifi networks

Airport worked fine until recently and worked fine when I installed new OS a while back. I can see no wifi networks including my Airport Express. My other Mini sees it and others as well as my MacBook so it seems to be an issue with that computer.
Sometimes I can log into my network by choosing Join Other Network but sometimes it doesn't work like now. Earlier today I logged in in this method and then it dropped out and I haven't been able to connect again. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Yes, I had thought of that too. Just wanted to avoid buying another card without being sure of the problem.
I've now tried setting up two routers to the 5GHz band, and sure enough, they both work and their wifis are picked by the macmini. All the other wifi networks I see around my house seem to be 54g.
So it seems that only the b/g part of the macmini's wifi card is broken, while the n part is working properly. Do you know if this is possible or if there is a configuration in the macmini that is forcing it to only use the 802.11N?
Thanks for your help anyway!

  • Satelite A30 does not see any other network devices in WLan

I recently bought a Toshiba Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card, i've installed it and managed to get it to recognise my broadband but it does not see any other network devices. I was not supplied with any drivers or software to operate the card (I bought it from a proper dealer). Can you recommend downloads that would run this card?
    I have a Satelite A30 laptop 1gb ram 60GB HDD.
Also large files sometimes stop transfering (hangs)when using my USB connection. The usb controller is using microsoft driver 5.1.2600.0 dated 1 june 2002.
    Is this a driver problem?

    Hi
If the WLan card is properly installed so you have only not configured you settings.
I dont know which devices in the broadband you mean but usually if you want to communicate or transfer files between notebooks through the WLan so all computers must be in the same domain or workgroup.
I cannot give you a proper answer but only a suggestion. I have red that sometimes a lower power could be responsible for such issue. Try to disable the option Power safe in the USB root hub properties in the device manager.

  • IMAC can not see any wifi networks at all?

IMAC can not find any wifi network at all. A few days ago the Imac suddenly had no wifi and on turning the WIFI on and off it became apparent that when it scans for wifi it can see no wifi networks at all. I have several other computers and they all see the wifi networks fine. I assume it is a hardware issue but the hardware test I preformed comes up with no errors. Anyone got any ideas?

  • New computer does not see others on network

I have a home office network with 3 computers on a WRT110.  One laptop is connected wirelessly.  When installing a new laptop (which will replace one w/ a bad video) it connects immediately (when using hard wire connection) thru the router to the internet but does not see the other computers nor do they see it.  I don't see any option to make a connection disk in the WRT110 manual or software.

Make sure File and Printer Sharing is Enabled...Also make sure both the computer's are in the same workgroup...
The default workgroup name in Windows Vista has been changed to WORKGROUP. In WindowsXP, the default workgroup name is MSHOME...
Also go into the computer software firewall on each computer, and set it to "trust" the other computers on your network.
If your firewall or PC security program keeps a list of trusted applications (also known as a "trusted zone"), then make sure that your router is in the trusted zone on your firewall...

  • Airport Extreme card does not see any networks...help!

I have a home network that is working fine - 2 linksys routers with WDS set up... it all works great - an Ibook g4 running 10.3 and has an Airport Extreme card connects flawlessly everyday. As does an old G4 powerbook with an old airport card.
however, I have this dual g4 with 10.4.3 running, and a recently-installed airport extreme card.
When I turn airport "on" it never sees our network. And it doesn't see my neighbors' networks, either, which are also always visible.
I can, howevr, connect via ethernet to the router that is somewhat nearby. that networking is fine...I can get on wired, but not wirelessly.
I've installed the 2005-1 update, and have run Software Update as well to see if there are any other patches/updates necesary. so as far as I can tell, I am up to date.
    system profiler says:
    Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: 404.2 (3.90.34.0.p16)
Current Wireless Network: wireless network not available
and in the extensions section for the airport, it says:
    Version: 4.0.4
    Last Modified: 11/20/05 9:55 AM
Get Info String: 4.0.4, Copyright © 2002 - 2005 Apple Computer, Inc., All Rights Reserved

    Load Address: 0x39738000
    Valid: Yes
    Authentic: Yes
    Dependencies: Satisfied
    Integrity: Correct
I am at a loss. Is there anything else I can do before writing off the card as a bad card - or perhaps the logic board is faulty?
I hope there is a simple solution to this. I appreciate your expert help.

Go back and recheck the Airport Extreme card installation. Make sure you plugged the connector for the internal Airport antenna into its socket on the Airport Extreme card itself - and make sure the plug is fully seated into its socket (none of the metal sleave should be showing).

  • I want to use my original iphone as an ipod touch but it does not see any wifi

For a long time, my iphone would see my home network intermittently, but it would always drop the signal. I have been searching the web to try to find a way to resolve this issue. Recently the wifi connectivity seems to have gone completely out.
I just want to allow my kids to use it as an ipod touch.

I actually performed a complete restore on the phone, but it did not work.  I then took the phone in to the Apple genius bar, and they diagnosed it to have damaged wifi hardware. Thank you all for your suggestions.

  • TimeCapsule/Airport:One computer does not see the other

I recently moved to a Time Machine for my networking and backing up needs. All seems well... But I can not figure out what needs to be done to fix this situation: Both laptops are on the same network; Laptop B can see Laptop A in the finder. But I cannot see Laptop B from Laptop A! (And I no longer see the "network" icon in the "Devices" portion of the finder, bt maybe that's a Version thing.)
I'm on the latest version of OSX, 10.5.5. I have previously had everything networked on an Airport Express (and before that, on a dome airport).
    Any hints? Clues or solutions?
    THANK YOU!
    Kath

Ok, since both Macs are using the TC for wireless network connectivity they should both be getting an IP address in the range of 10.0.1.x. Are they? I assume, from your description, that they are so let's double check their configurations to make sure they are sharing.
Please check out the following Apple article to make sure you have both Macs set up properly: Mac OS X: About File Sharing

  • My Iphone 4 (ios 7) does not register any wifi network

ive tried everything all my other devices connect to the home wifi fine so why wont it???

    The freezer really works people!!
My 4S couldnt detect any networks today.
With little time i found the freezer idea on the forums, i thought it was BS to be honest.
But i tried the whole airplane mode and network reset and nothing worked so i tried  the freezer.
Ziploc bag and left it in the freezer for 30 mins with 20% battery life. When I pulled it out it was dead so hooked it up to the charger, waited for the chagre and no success on the wifi. So yah i thought BS.
So then I followed all the other apple care steps such as backing up the phone, erasing the phone. But even when the phone was erased it couldnt detect any networks. So i restored the phone from itunes and still no wifi.
Then I read a key note on the forums about the freezing.
They said turn the wifi off and cool for 10-15 mins
So iphone being charged now after the back up and restore i tried the freezer again.
15 mins in ziploc bag with wifi off and full battery and behold!
    I finally detected networks again!!
    Good Luck!

  • My iphone 4s does not show any wifi networks

I have tried many suggested solutions(below) and nothing is working. Any other suggestions please?
    - restart phone
    - restart router then phone
    - reset network settings
    - reset all settings
    - enable mac filter on router and adding the MAC address of the phone
    - Airplane mode on / off
    - changed channels on the router

if other devices can connect to the routers.  but not your phone.  i would take it to the apple store to have them trouble shoot the wireless in the phone.  if you reset everything and still can't get a connection then its the phone thats the issue.  just as a test.  have you restored phone back to factory ?  of course backing it up first ?  if not i would try that.  go to settings on phone.  general.  reset to factory after doing a backup.  then try after that.  but don't restore your files yet.  test before you add your restore.

  • IBook G4 Airport Extreme does not see any SSID

    Hi,
My iBook 1,2 Ghz has been working great for several years now.
I am working with Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) for quite some time
and it never let me down. I connect to the internet using an Airport Express
    connected to a speedtouch router.
The Airport Express Card in my iBook always found 6 or 7 SSID's of other
Wireless Networks in my neighbourhood and it used to login automatically on
my Airport Express wireless wetwork station.
Last week it suddenly stopped working correctly.
After starting OS X on my laptop the little Airport icon in the upper bar faded out grey.
When I click it it says it can't find any networks.
I checked all my settings, downgraded my Airport Extensions
and even installed a spare (refurbished) Airport Extreme Card.
Even with another Airport Extreme Card it does not see any wireless networks.
My other macs, a unibody MacBook Pro and white MacBook work fine with the Airport Express.
What could be wrong? Am I overlooking something here? Can somebody help me out?
How can i get my Airport Express/iBook G4 connected to my wireless network again?

    Hi Elko,
    Thanks for the reply.
I re-installed the original Airport Extreme card into the slot again.
But now i pushed it harder than the first time. (just like you said)
I noticed the second click, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
Both Airport Cards (the original and the new) were installed correctly.
I also checked the antenna connection but that is seated o.k. too.
After re-installing the card, i booted into Mac OS X Tiger and checked the ASP.
It says a Airport Extreme Card is installed with firmware version 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p.18)
and the langauge version is international/worldwide. So far, so good.
Nevertheless the airport card does still not find any wireless networks or SSID's after
scanning multiple times. (Location on automatic)
I am planning an upgrade to Leopard today. Maybe that's gonna help, since there were some Airport Extreme updates in Leopard. If that's not the solution, I will stay with your other suggestion and buy me a nice USB dongle.
Do you have any idea what type of dongles work best with Leopard? I have seen some different models, but a lot of dongles require third-party software to make it work and are not automatically recognized by OS X.

  • My computer does not see my printer

Hi: I am having a problem with my HP Photosmart 4500 printer. My computer does not see it. I have a USB connected to it, have uninstalled and installed the software two time, dowloaded the latest update and nothing. Add to that, I can not connect it by WIFI. WIFI on the printer is on but again, it's no where on any of the screens. The only variable I can think of that has changed has been the router I got recently from AT&T. Everything else works with the WIFI but no computer. I'm running 10.7.5. I have read the install instructions and nothing seems to be working. The one thing I do get from the HP install disc is a message reading the printer isn't recognized but there are no updates in support. OK, what am I missing here?

Try these steps to uninstall the current software using the HP scrubber and then reinstall using the current HP driver available through Apple.
To do so, perform the following steps:
    1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ and then click on “HP Uninstaller”
    2. Next click “Continue”
    3. Highlight the device on the left pane.
    4. Press and hold control+alt+command on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on “Uninstall”.
    5. After you do this, you will see a pop up that asks you if you want to uninstall all HP software. Please note, that in doing this, it will remove any other HP printers that you also have installed.
    6. Click “continue” and wait for the program to finish.
    7. After it completes, reboot your computer.
Once the computer is back on, do the following steps:
WARNING: This is will delete all of your printers.
    1. Go into “System Preferences” and then select either  “Print & Scan” or "Print & Fax".
    2. Right click (or control + click) on the rectangle listing your printers and then select “Reset Printing System”.
After you have reset the printing system, let's make sure you have the most recent HP driver package installed.
You can do this two ways. First,  check for any available HP Update's by clicking the Apple icon and then Software Update. If there are any updates available, they should show up here. However, if the printer is connected by USB, it will not show any available updates. The other option is downloading the drivers from Apple's website.
You can download it here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL907/en_US/HPPrinterDrivers2.14.dmg
Once you have downloaded the driver package and completed the installation, you will want to plug your printer back in (if you were using a USB connection).  After the printer is plugged back in, go into your print settings under System Preferences > Print & Scan. To add the printer, click the plus sign. You should see your printer listed here. If not, click "Add Printer or Scanner." Click the name of your printer and then click "Use:” box.  Make sure that says the name of your printer and not AirPrint. If you are using the printer wirelessly, make sure that the printer "Kind:" is set to Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction. Click "Add" down in the bottom right hand corner.
This will add your printer back using the most recent HP print driver available through Apple. Let me know if this helps resolve your issue or not. If it doesn't, let me know I will see what else I can do.
    Best of luck,
    Kyle

    1. Because it is either the same IP as the new one or hidden by being plugged in as a second router.
To access it, isolate one computer from the existing network and plug it directly by ethernet to a lan port of the TC. Use the erase function in the TC to remove all the content of the hard disk.
Then go to the internet tab, connection sharing and select off bridged. You can then reconnect the TC to the network.. and the computer as well. The TC will act as bridged device.. getting IP from the main router and should then appear correctly in Airport utility.
    2. I covered in 1. But you just go in airport utility manual setup. disk, and you will see the erase function. You can also set it to bridge and leave the erase until you put it back in the network.. but be careful you erase the right one.
    3. You can use the old TC via wired or wireless.. although I would always stick to wired connection if possible. Speed on wireless is 10x worse than wired.
Also note the reliability goes down dramatically after 2 years.. a series 1 3 years old or more is ebay fodder unless you want to repair it. Do not trust vital data to it.. when it dies you will have issues recovering it.
    4. Yes, all apple routers will function as wireless extenders. when you do that the ethernet ports turn off so it becomes a purely wireless device.. strange apple decision on what you want to use your TC for.
