Airport password created in login and system keychain both..

Hey,
I've been having a few vexing problems with my new MacBook 2.16 running 10.4.6 that I was hoping that I might get solved on here. I've been unable to get my machine to use the airport password in the system.keychain. If it's not in the login.keychain, it doesn't work. I've tried deleting and re-creating the keychain using systemkeychain -vfCt and it still doesn't work. Anybody have any ideas? I'm downloading the Combo 10.4.6 updater to see if that corrects the problem. I've already tried to repair permissions.
If I elect to save the password to an airport network, it is saved in both the login and system keychain and I'm not sure if this is the correct behavior.

I've applied the 10.4.6 Combo updater, no affect upon the problems that I've been having with airport. It just won't seem to use a password stored in the system.keychain for some reason.

  • Multiple "login" and "System" keychains

    My menu bar lock icon shows two entries for keychain "login". There are also 2 entries for "login" in Keychain access. This is also true for my "System" keychain. They can be both locked, both unlocked or one of each. If I delete the extra one, they both get deleted. There are still two "login" keychains in the list, but the lock icon is gone and an empty square is shown instead (for both of them). There is only one login.keychain in my ~/Library/Keychains and only one System.keychain in /Library/Keychains. This all applies to my Power Book. On my iMAC, keychain access shows 2 "System" keychains but only one "login". What are these extra keychains and how do I get rid of them. It's not really a problem (everything works like I think it's supposed to), it's more of a nuisance and a puzzle that I really want to solve.

  • Airport Utility and System Keychain Problem

    I'm having a strange issue when trying to access Airport Utility on our imac. When I click on manual update I get a popup box asking for the administrator user name and pass word because Mac OS X wants to use System keychain. When I type those in the boxes and click allow an error message appears saying I typed an invalid password. I've rebooted, I booted up in Safe Mode which asks you for a password before it logs in - no problems there. I didn't try to access AU from there, not sure if that's possible. I've even gone to account settings and changed the password which requires you to enter the current password, that worked. I used the new password with that warning from Airport Utility but got the same error. I went back and changed the password back to the original and tried again, same error.
    I don't normally access AU on that computer, I use my laptop and there are no problems there, so I don't know if this is a problem that just cropped up under SL or not. So far that's the only instance of this popping up with that issue. I don't believe I've ever seen it say it needed to access the System keychain before. Another oddity to this is I can open up Keychain Access and click on unlock the System keychain which then asks you for an administrator password, I enter it and it unlocks with no issue. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Sometimes the Keychain just gets a bit "wonky." The simplest resolve, in most cases, is to delete all entries with the Kind of "AirPort base station password" and "AirPort network password" in the Keychain using the Keychain Access utility.

  • Creating a login and password in the forms

    I have been trying to create a username and password to access the database that I have created using Form Builder. This is the code that I have created....the syntax is correct but its not performing the task i.e direct the user to a different form
    DECLARE
    LOGINNAME VARCHAR2(20);
    PASWORD VARCHAR2(20);
    BEGIN
    IF LOGINNAME = 'CSR' AND PASWORD = 'CURRIE'
    THEN
    CALL_FORM ('C:\ClothingCloseout\Menu.fmx');
    ELSIF
    LOGINNAME = 'MGMT' AND PASWORD = 'SANDRA'
    THEN
    CALL_FORM ('C:\ClothingCloseout\Menu.fmx');
    END IF;
    END;
    I also tried using the same login and password through which I get connected to teh database but that does not work either....Thanks for the help!!!

    Hi Ashley,
    The compilation is successful because there are no syntax errors. When the code is executed depends on where you have put this code (On-Logon trigger, etc).
    In this situation, it looks like the 'code' has not been executed YET because the event has not been triggered OR it has successfully gone through ie - the IF test for loginname and pasword was not satisfied. Therefore, the call_form was never performed. (Your code does not prompt the user to input 'Loginname' and 'Pasword'). In this case, loginname and pasword are NULLs.

  • SRM 7.0 - Hide 'Create Memory Snapshot' and 'System Info' buttons in SC

    Dear forum gurus,
    I have a requirement to hide these 2 fields which appear in the shopping cart wizard in SRM 7.0.
    The configuration to hide fields only handles header and item fields, and this is a screen field. Presumably this would involve a change to the web dynpro application, and is something which cannot be done via configuration?
    Can anyone confirm how this can be done and provide steps?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    The buttons are not displayed if you use standard role.
    If you use custom role, please check this note. You should remove the authorization object.

  • System keychain password not recognised

    I am trying to view some wireless network passwords via Keychain Access. I can access and view my user Keychain but when trying to view items listed under the System Keychain I am asked for a password, which when entered comes up an invalid. I can lock and unlock the System Keychain, but this password does not work when trying to unlock items within it.
    I am the only user on my computer and I have only one password...the one I use for my user account (which has admin status).
    I did have a problem a few months ago when I had to recreate my user account. I created another admin level user using a new name and then physically transfered all of the folders from the old user across to the new user. I then changed all of the access priveleges for the stuff I transfered. I can't understand how this could be effecting the current problem because both the old and new user accounts shared the same password.
    Having upgraded my computers over the years I have had to migrate a number of times, however, I have always used the same password.
    Why should the System Keychain have a different password to the admin level user on a computer with one user?
    Any thoughts.
    Kind regards

    Sorry you have not gotten a response for this problem. I found your post when searching for an answer to my problem, which turns out to be (it would appear) the same one you're experiencing.
    Password works great for my login, "invalid" for my "system" keychain. I can unlock my "system," but it will not let me use the same password to view the network password that is stored in "system."
    Keychain First Aid reports no problems.
    I'd love to delete the whole mess- a previous problem has resulted in me having two "system" and two "login" keychains- I spent hours on the phone with AppleCare several years ago trying to clear that up, but I have too many passwords stored in here to delete them all.
    I have the same number of items in both "system" keychains, and the same number in both "login" keychains. When I delete an item form one "login," both report having one less item. When I drag an item from another keychain to the "login" at the top of the list, it is the other one that is highlighted and accepts the item, but both then show the increased number of items.
    I don't know if this is related to the problem, or if it is just another complication to it, or if it has absolutely nothing to do with it.
    Hopefully someone has an answer that will make both Mr Badger and me happy.
    Thanks. Joel.

  • System Keychain Password

    After some security issues I wanted to do some deleting/updating of passwords.
    My System Keychain holds passwords for my wireless networks, however , the password I enter after the prompt is not recognised.
    I did a Keychain firstaid and all is well?
    Any suggestions?

    You can't unlock the system.keychain - the password is known only to the system. If you need to remove items from it, open Terminal and type:
    sudo systemkeychain -vfcC
    This will create a new, blank system keychain.
    The options are documented here:
    http://darwinsource.opendarwin.org/Current/security_systemkeychain-11/src/system keychain.cpp
    Once you have recreated the keychain, you can test if it unlocks properly with:
    systemkeychain -vt
    The options used above are:
    -v = verbose
    -f = force
    -c = create if needed
    -C = setup system
    -t = test unlock

  • Sync system and icloud keychains

    Hi,
    I had to reset the network settings on my iPhone 5 and then I noticed it had deleted all my wifi passwords from iCloud Keychain.
    Accessing the Keychain app on my Mac, I can see that all the passwords are still in my "system keychain", however, I cannot copy them to the "iCloud keychain".
    Is there any way to copy or sync the "Airport network passwords" from the system keychain into the iCloud keychain?
    Thanks

    Didn't it keep syncing with both iTunes and iCloud even after installing iTunes 11? (PC or Mac?)
    Ever since iCloud came out in 2011 I've had a configuration where I sync some calendars with iCloud and one with Outlook via iTunes. Until today I didn't even realize they had removed the option from iTunes after 10.7 because I think it kept working even after the upgrade. (I guess the new UI wouldn't let me select that option, but since I already had it configured, I think it kept working that way.)
    However, today I cycled my iCloud calendars off and then back on again to solve a different problem and then I was unable to turn on syncing with Outlook again. I stumbled across this article and it all came together: "iTunes 10.7 or earlier will allow you to enable iTunes sync for Calendars even if you are already using iCloud Calendar on your computer."
    Since I think it was working even under iTunes 11, I'm considering restoring from a backup from a couple of days ago to see if that will restore the configuration I had. But you're making me wonder if that will work.

  • Change Change System Keychain Password

    I can unlock the system keychain but when I choose "Change Password for Keychain "System"..." it tells me "Sorry, you entered an invalid password"
    Why?

    You probably didn't create a password for your System keychain!!!
    Take a look at this: http://developer.apple.com/DOCUMENTATION/DARWIN/Reference/ManPages/man8/systemke ychain.8.html
    According to Apple, the System keychain normally doesn't have a known password and passwords to items in the System keychain are only unlockable by the system! It is possible to force creation of a new System keychain via the Terminal, and specify a password of your choice, but I'm not sure you really want/need to do that. If you think an item on the System keychain may have an old or unneeded password, you're always able to delete the item from the keychain. If it needs to be there, it'll get added again in the normal course of things...
    To repeat: Not being able to manually view the passwords stored on the System keychain is normal, expected behaviour.

  • System Keychain Vulnerability

    I have my login keychain secured by a separate password. However, the System Keychain contains the password to my network and time capsule and is not secured by a separate password. I only need to open Keychain Access, unlock the System Keychain, and enter my login password and I have access to the items.
    I thought the idea behind the System Keychain was to store passwords needed for the system independent of the user and that these passwords would be secured by a system password known only to the OS. The fact that I can use my login password to access these keychain items makes the second password for my login keychain irrelevant for my network and time capsule.
    Am I missing something..?

    Someone takes my Mac and is able to guess or otherwise break my login password. I am still protected for my login keychain by a second, stronger password.
    As I said before, even if your login keychain uses exactly the same password as your login password, resetting the login password will not help an attacker break into that keychain. The attacker would have to guess your login password to get access to that keychain. Of course, if you've chosen such a poor password that someone could guess it, you can hardly call that a system vulnerability!
    however, being mac-savvy, the thief opens keychain access and selects my *System* keychain and unlocks it. It asks for a password and the thief enters my login password.
    Again, this relies on the thief knowing your login password. However, I'm not sure what the effects of resetting the login password would be on the System keychain. I would think that the same thing would apply and you'd lose access to those passwords. But since this keychain has a different purpose than the others, maybe not. The only way to know for sure would be to test it.
    the System Keychain only contains passwords which are needed across all users, but these include the network and time capsule passwords which are pretty critical...
    That's assuming that resetting the password gives access, which may not be the case. Even if that is the case, those passwords are not really critical... choose a unique password for these things that you don't use for anything else. Your scenario of having someone steal your laptop yet stay on-site and mess with your Time Capsule is a bit silly. The thief already has your machine, so there's nothing on the Time Capsule that they won't already have.

  • Need help to create a login for maintenance of a single database in a multiple databases, single instance environment

    Hi,
    We are in the process of consolidating several databases on a single instance of SQL Server 2012.
    Databases are developed by outside vendors; they have to be able to install and support their databases but they shouldn't be able to do any thing with the other databases.
    When I tried to migrate the first database, the vendor told me that on the former server he used the sa account in some batch.
    On a previous thread
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/dc1f802f-d8de-4e2b-87e5-ccb289593fb7/security-for-multiple-applications-on-a-single-sql-server-2012-instance?forum=sqlsecurity
    it was suggested to me that I create a login for each vendor and that this login should map a user in their respective databases.
    To test, I simulated the process in a test database:
    1 - I create the login and I scripted the command:
    USE [master]
    GO
    /* For security reasons the login is created disabled and with a random password. */
    /****** Object:  Login [M02_Test]    Script Date: 2014-12-02 16:23:58 ******/
    CREATE LOGIN [M02_Test] WITH PASSWORD=N'ÈS^y¡¶=Å€"+y¤j|úªhÖféÎЕœEu
    c', DEFAULT_DATABASE=[M02], DEFAULT_LANGUAGE=[us_english], CHECK_EXPIRATION=OFF, CHECK_POLICY=OFF
    GO
    ALTER LOGIN [M02_Test] DISABLE
    GO
    2 - I create the user and scripted it
    USE [M02]
    GO
    /****** Object:  User [M02_Test]    Script Date: 2014-12-02 16:29:41 ******/
    CREATE USER [M02_Test] FOR LOGIN [M02_Test] WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA=[dbo]
    GO
    Questions:
    What should we do with te scrambled password: is it saved as it was entered and should it be kept somewhere in a safe place?
    Would that do the job for the vendor who used sa before?
    Thanks for your advice

    I'm not sure why you would save the script. Why not create the login, in one way or another give the vendor the password. Keep the login disabled until needed.
    I don't recall exactly what we said last time, but it occurs to me that the application setup things on server level. Jobs is the prime thing that comes to mind, but there could be other things.
    Now, here is an important observation. As long as the vendor's application was alone on the server, that was OK, and it was OK to give the vendor sysadmin rights. In this situation this is less OK, and as we said, you should only give the vendor db_owner
    in the database.
    But the vendor will need to tell you what they do on server-level. They should know this - unless they sell their app as a "alone-on-a-server application". (And there are indeed such applications out there, even from Microsoft.) But there is a
    risk that they will bill you extra if you make their installation more difficult.
    Maybe you will have to give some vendors sysadmin for the installation, but in such case, you should ask them why they need it. If they don't, give them db_owner, and they will have to find out their hard way. (And you don't pay them for learning
    their own application.)

  • Shared logins and performance

    I am upgrading MS Access applications to SQL Server 2012 back ends. We're currently approaching SS access with a single login shared by multiple users, but less than 24, for the same application. I'm having trouble finding documentation regarding
    what performance effects (if any) we will have from SQL Server using this single ID approach. Does anyone have some information regarding this?

    Hi SteveChicago,
    Based on my understanding, you want to know if it can cause a performance issue when sharing a single login with multiple users.
    As Sean mentioned, share a single login with multiple users could cause a security issue rather than a performance issue.
    A login is a security principal, or an entity that can be authenticated by a secure system. Users need a login to connect to SQL Server. As a security principal, permissions can be granted to logins. The scope of a login is the whole Database Engine. So
    I recommend you to create different logins for multiple users, and grant them property permission to access different database. To make sure every has his own login with different permission, it’s better for us to manage databases. About how to create a login
    and map the login to a database user, please refer to this article:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337562.aspx.
